In a recent crackdown under ‘Operation Lagaam’, Uttarakhand Police stopped a black Scorpio at Chandi Ghat, Haridwar, only to find it riddled with traffic violations. The vehicle, reportedly driven by young students, had black window film, a hooter, and political stickers, including a BJP flag fixed to the bonnet.
In a viral video from the checkpoint, police officers are seen confronting the passengers and questioning them about the car’s ownership and its unauthorised modifications. Despite being asked to step out, the occupants hesitated, prompting further investigation.

One of the boys eventually claimed, “Hum unke ladke hain jinki gaadi hai. Vidhayak uncle hain humare” (I am the son of the car’s owner. My uncle is an MLA), in an apparent attempt to evade action. However, the police officers responded firmly, reminding them that using such political identifiers on private vehicles is against the rules.
Following the incident, officials removed the black film and stickers, seized the car (bearing registration number UP50OD0801), and issued a challan for multiple violations. Police made it clear that no “VIP show-off” would be spared under the ongoing drive.

Launched to counter rising incidents involving vehicles from outside the state, Operation Lagaam aims to strengthen road discipline and ensure public safety. According to reports, over 587 challans were issued within a week of its launch, following widespread public demand for stricter enforcement.
