A peculiar marital dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district recently made headlines after a woman lodged a police complaint against her husband, alleging that his insistence on household chores was costing her Instagram followers.
Nisha, a resident of Pilkhuwa in Hapur, claimed that her husband, Vijendra from Noida, constantly pressured her to focus on domestic work, leaving her with no time to post Reels. The issue escalated when she noticed a drop in her follower count.
“My followers declined as I was kept busy washing utensils and cleaning of the house by my husband. I didn’t get time to make Reels,” Nisha told the police, as quoted by Deccan Herald. She mentioned that she used to post two Instagram Reels daily.
Digital Fame Meets Domestic Duties
According to News18, the couple’s conflict began when Vijendra suggested Nisha reduce her time on social media to prioritize household responsibilities. Nisha briefly complied, but when she lost two followers, she became upset, packed her belongings, and left for her maternal home.
At the Women’s Police Station in Hapur, she filed a formal complaint. In response, Vijendra also approached the police, accusing Nisha of neglecting household chores due to her Instagram obsession.
Counselling Ends the Reel-Life Drama
Aruna Rai, the in-charge of the Women’s Police Station, spent nearly four hours listening to both parties. After a detailed counselling session, the couple agreed to acknowledge their individual faults and committed to maintaining peace in their marriage going forward.
