In a bizarre twist of tech dependence gone wrong, a man from Bihar’s Gopalganj had a narrow escape after blindly following Google Maps directions—while allegedly drunk—during his late-night drive home from a party.

The incident occurred when Adarsh Rai, a resident of Gopalpur, set out from Gorakhpur after attending a party and entered only his village name in the GPS. Unfortunately, the app directed him to a path that led straight onto railway tracks near Domingarh in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow division.

According to TV9, Adarsh was intoxicated and failed to notice that he was driving onto the railway line. His car soon got stuck in the gravel beside the track, and before he could react, a goods train from Sahjanwa began approaching.

Miraculously, the loco pilot spotted the vehicle in time and pulled the emergency brake. The train screeched to a halt just five meters away from the car, averting a potential catastrophe.

Adarsh later told police, “I had attended a party in Gorakhpur and was returning late at night. I only entered my village name in Google Maps, not the full address.”

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) quickly reached the site, removed the vehicle, and cleared the tracks. The train was delayed for nearly 57 minutes, but officials confirmed that no other trains were affected during the disruption.

Upon investigation, the RPF confirmed that Adarsh was heavily drunk. He was immediately arrested, and his car was seized. The railway police are continuing their probe into the incident.
