The fame of Instagram reels in India is on a high, attracting not only the youngsters but also a large number of middle-aged people. Some fans are even going beyond the boundaries just to gain likes and shares.
A recent shocking example is from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, where a woman was seen dancing with a gun on a highway. The video, apparently shot for an Instagram reel, went viral on social media.
The viral video on platform X features the woman wearing a green saree along with a skimpy blouse, performing on a Bhojpuri track. The act was performed on what is presumed to be the Kanpur-Delhi Highway. Perturbed users tagged the police and other authorities, calling for stringent action for exhibiting a weapon so openly.
The lady has been named Shalini, who operates the Instagram account “salinipanday60”. Her account has over 60,000 followers and over 2,550 posts.
After the circulation of the video, the police intervened to deal with the issue. In reply to the tagged post, they asserted, “It is to be informed in the said matter that the said woman is a resident of Kanpur Nagar, who made this video within the Kanpur Nagar district area. In this regard, the Kanpur Nagar Police have been informed.”
Such incidents are not unheard of in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, in 2024, YouTuber Simran Yadav too was in the news after a video surfaced where she was dancing with a pistol on the highway in Lucknow.
That too became viral, attracting police notice. The Lucknow Police at that time had made a statement, “The concerned have been directed to take necessary action,” promising that an investigation was being conducted.
