In a chilling case reminiscent of the dark and eccentric characters from Gangs of Wasseypur, a man known as ‘Mental’ has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district for allegedly killing a couple who objected to his obscene behavior. Locals say that ‘Mental’, whose real name is Akash Sharma, is feared in the area and has a history of criminal activity.
Night of Horror: Intoxicated Trio With Women On Terrace
According to the police complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Sudhanshu Pathak, the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. on June 3. Akash Sharma alias ‘Mental’ and two accomplices, Deepak Yadav and a third unidentified man from Nakatia, brought two women to the terrace of an under-construction house opposite Shivshakti Pathak’s residence in Bareilly’s Cantonment area.
They were reportedly “seen engaging in obscene acts” while intoxicated. When the volume and commotion escalated, Shivshakti and his wife Pooja confronted the group.
Brutal Retaliation: Couple Assaulted, Husband Dies
Sudhanshu stated in his complaint that the three men forced their way into his brother’s house and attacked the couple. “They also attacked Pooja and stole Shivshakti’s gold chain,” he added.
Shivshakti succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Sunday, prompting police to register a murder case. While ‘Mental’ and his gang are on the run, Inspector Rajesh Kumar noted, “The case appears suspicious, and since the post-mortem report did not confirm the cause of death, a viscera sample has been preserved.”
Locals Fear Repercussions, Investigation Ongoing
Police are facing hurdles in the investigation, as local residents have remained silent, allegedly out of fear. “Local residents have not provided any information, and the investigation continues,” Inspector Kumar confirmed.
Akash alias ‘Mental’ is believed to be a habitual offender and his arrest has become a priority for the authorities.
