In a shocking incident from Bengaluru’s Jayanagar, a Rapido bike taxi driver allegedly slapped a woman passenger after she confronted him over reckless driving. The assault, which occurred three days ago, has gained widespread attention following the circulation of a viral video on June 16.
According to a report by India Today, the woman raised concerns over the driver’s dangerous riding style, which led to a heated exchange. In the now-viral clip, recorded by a bystander, the driver is seen striking the woman with such force that she collapses to the ground. Disturbingly, several people can be seen standing around without attempting to intervene.
Police Launch Investigation After Viral Video
Initially hesitant to approach the authorities, the woman later filed a complaint after being persuaded. The Jayanagar Police confirmed that a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) has been filed in the case. Given the intensity of the public backlash and viral nature of the video, police are now considering upgrading the complaint to a formal First Information Report (FIR).

Authorities have begun identifying the driver and the bystanders seen in the video. The Jayanagar Police Station is leading the investigation.
Echoes of Past Ride-Hailing Assault
The incident has sparked comparisons with a similar case from September last year involving an Ola auto driver, who slapped a woman after she cancelled her ride. A video of that incident also went viral, in which the driver shouted, “Tera baap deta hai kya gas ke paise?” and tried to snatch the woman’s phone before fleeing. He was arrested for assault.
