When businessman brothers Nithin and Nikhil Kamath bought a Mercedes-Benz for their mother, Revathi Kamath, to surprise her on her birthday, they meant it as a family affair. Yet, what was a personal moment soon gained much public attention when Revathi posted an informal Facebook status update about it, which soon went viral.

Recalling the incident in an interview on the Just Curious India podcast with Rapid Rashmi, Revathi said, “Nikhil didn’t want any news to spread like this,” further stating that he had told her, “Amma, if we spread news like this, people who are in trouble, what will they think? We shouldn’t hurt people. We shouldn’t show off.”

She explained that displaying wealth was never her intention. “In fact, it was not my aim to show off. I just posted it on Facebook casually and it blew up,” she explained.

Revathi also talked about the strong emotional connection she has with her family. “Nithin, Nikhil, and Seema (wife of Nithin) never thought of leaving us. Especially Nithin, he never had the concept of moving out. That’s a great support system for me,” she said, attributing her positive attitude to these close-knit family ties.

“They just want me to be happy. They will do anything for that. They even recently got me a visa for Europe and the UK. Nikhil wants me to travel the world,” she said.

Revathi also recently joined the bandwagon of praising Bengaluru Metro from social media, expressing her ease of traveling in the Metro as a commuter. Sporting a pink saree, she was spotted within the women’s compartment and applauded the facility of commuting by public transport in the city. “Travelling in the metro is so much convenient and that too in the female compartment! #nammametro,” she wrote on her social media post, valuing the special women’s section and the comfort level of the service.
