Mysterious ‘4’ in the Sky Stuns Americans, Sparks Marvel Marketing Buzz

Americans were recently left puzzled by a strange sight in the sky — a circle with the number “4” drawn by a plane. The curious logo quickly went viral as people began sharing photos and videos online, speculating about its origin.

One woman, who was sunbathing on her rooftop deck, captured a video of a plane drawing the cryptic logo in real-time, and shared it on Instagram. In the video, the aircraft first formed a circle, then created a number “4” inside it. She immediately speculated, “Is this an advertisement for Fantastic Four? I think it is.”

As the plane continued drawing a second logo, she remarked, “I think they’re just going to have them all over the sky. Talk about marketing.” In the caption, she wrote, “Look up today and you’ll probably see one of these above you #fantastic4 Pedro Pascal, are you up there?? Great marketing.”

Many viewers took to her comment section to share similar experiences. One user said, “Oooh saw that…I thought it was a peace sign.” Another added, “It happened all over New York, too, on July 4th.” Someone else praised the stunt, saying, “That’s some fantastic advertising there.”

The widespread nature of the symbols and their timing has led fans to believe the act is part of a promotional campaign for Marvel’s upcoming film, The Fantastic Four: First Steps.

The upcoming film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, is said to be set in a 1960s retro-futuristic world, and will follow the origin story of Marvel’s First Family as they gain powers and fight off the cosmic threat Galactus.

The film stars Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm/The Thing.

The movie is scheduled to release in theatres on July 25, and will kick off Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six.
