The fiery dish is no ordinary curry, it’s made with 72 different types of chilli sourced from around the globe. The restaurant uses a spice paste that includes intense varieties like Carolina reaper, scotch bonnet, naga, bird’s eye, and snake chilli. Chefs at Bengal Village even wear gloves while preparing the dish due to its extreme heat.
How the Curry is Made
The 72 chillies are first ground into a powder, then blended with spices such as fenugreek, mustard seed, and cumin. The final curry also includes onion, garlic, and ghee, resulting in a thick, dark red chicken dish known for leaving diners in tears. In some videos, the owner is even seen serving it while wearing a gas mask.
Extreme Reactions
The dish has led to several intense reactions. According to The Standard, one person nearly ended up in the hospital, while another was found rolling on the floor in the restaurant’s restroom after attempting the challenge.
Despite or perhaps because of its reputation, the challenge continues to attract daring foodies eager to test their spice limits.
