A travel blogger recently shared a funny and endearing experience with her Indian parents on their maiden overseas trip. Vanathi S uploaded an Instagram clip of her family’s priceless reactions when they heard about the price of a small Gucci bag, and the video has since turned viral.

The mishap occurred in Thailand, where Vanathi and her family were getting around the city. Stepping into a shopping district, they entered a Gucci shop, assuming it was an ordinary bag store. Their first big ‘culture shock’ overseas ensued thereafter.

In her video, Vanathi titled the scene, “The first culture shock my Indian family experienced on their very first international trip.”

Price Tag Leaves Them Speechless

Within the high-end boutique, the family nonchalantly inquired about a small purse’s cost. After being told by the staff that it was 72,000 baht (approximately Rs. 1.8 lakh), they were clearly taken aback and immediately left the shop.

Outside, their responses tugged at viewers’ hearts and senses of humor. A woman cried out, “72,000 for one small bag? I could afford 10 trips to Thailand with that.” At the same time, a man joked, “For a moment there, I thought that was the cost of the entire showroom.”

Vanathi, who writes on the username @theuntoldtrails, uploaded the clip with a personal message about what luxury means to her, “I’ve always believed that memories are worth more than things. Luxury is nice, but for me… nothing beats chasing sunsets in a new country, getting lost in a mountain village, or sharing a meal with strangers who become friends.”

Internet Loves the Honest Reactions

The lighthearted clip gained popularity among online viewers, amassing more than one million views within a day. Users left comments in their hundreds, appreciating the openness of the family and the down-to-earth perception of luxury spending.

“I love that he believed it was the price of the whole store. So adorable,” one user posted, another commenting, “Indian parents are pro when it comes to costs.”

The video is both a humorous reminder of cultural differences and a moving testament to the worth of shared experiences rather than possessions.
