Dhanteras 2024: Find Most Auspicious Times For Purchasing

Dhanteras 2024

Dhanteras is a significant Hindu festival celebrated on the 13th lunar day of Krishna Paksha in the Hindu month of Ashwin. This year, it will be observed on Tuesday, October 29. The name ‘Dhanteras’ is derived from two Sanskrit words—’Dhan,’ meaning wealth, and ‘Teras,’ referring to the 13th day. On this special occasion, people offer prayers to Lord Dhanvantari, Goddess Lakshmi, and the deity of wealth, Kubera, seeking blessings for good health, prosperity, and positive energy.

Significance of Purchases on Dhanteras

Purchasing new items on Dhanteras is believed to bring prosperity, and it is considered highly auspicious to make these purchases during favorable times of the day. According to astrologers, following specific timings for shopping is essential to ensure that the blessings of wealth and health are multiplied.

Astrologer Recommends Auspicious Timings for Dhanteras Shopping

Dhanteras, which falls on Trayodashi (the 13th day) of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Kartik, holds special significance for increasing wealth. It is believed that by making purchases on this day, especially during the specified auspicious times, one can gain the favor of Goddess Lakshmi and enjoy prosperity many times over.

According to the Rishikesh Panchang, Pandit Mudgal outlined three highly favorable timings for shopping on Dhanteras. These are:

  • First Auspicious Time (Scorpio Ascendant): From 7:50 AM to 10:00 AM. This time is considered stable and highly favorable for making purchases such as gold, silver, jewelry, and utensils.
  • Second Auspicious Time (Aquarius Ascendant): From 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, another period regarded as stable and auspicious for investments.
  • Third and Most Auspicious Time (Pradosh Kaal): The best time for shopping, from 6:36 PM to 8:32 PM. Purchases made during this period are believed to be especially beneficial.

Mythological and Cultural Importance of Dhanteras

Dhanteras holds deep historical, mythological, and cultural significance. The festival is celebrated for several reasons rooted in mythology. One of the most notable reasons is that on this day, Goddess Lakshmi is believed to have emerged from the Kshira Sagar (ocean of milk) carrying a vessel filled with gold, alongside Lord Kubera, the god of wealth. This event is commemorated by honoring both deities during the festival, as their blessings are sought for wealth and prosperity in the household.

Dhanteras remains a powerful celebration of health, wealth, and fortune, and its rituals continue to hold a prominent place in Hindu culture.
