A wedding in Bihar’s Kaimur district ended unexpectedly when the bride stormed out mid-ceremony, accusing the groom of being mentally unstable after noticing his hand trembling during the sindoor daan ritual.
The ceremony, which was taking place in the Bhabhua Police Station area, had been going smoothly. The groom arrived with a grand procession, and most rituals, including Dwarchar and Barnaat, had already been completed. However, things went downhill during the final step of the marriage.
“The Boy Is Mad,” Says Bride
Eyewitnesses reported that while the groom attempted to apply sindoor on the bride’s forehead, his hands began to shake. Reacting sharply, the bride refused to proceed with the wedding and exclaimed that the groom was “mad.”

Despite several attempts by the groom and his family to convince her, the bride remained firm in her decision and left. The groom recounted,
“We came for the wedding. At the time of applying sindoor, my hand shook. The girl ran away saying the boy is mad.”
Police Mediation Fails
Soon after the disruption, the police reached the venue and asked both families to visit the Bhabhua police station for mediation. Officers tried to settle the matter, but neither side could reach an agreement.
“Both sides came to the station after the bride refused to marry. We tried to settle the matter, but the bride’s family didn’t agree. No official complaint has been submitted by either side yet,” the police stated.
Dowry Refund Sparks New Conflict
Following the cancellation, the bride’s family demanded a return of the dowry. The groom’s father responded,
“The marriage was fixed for ₹1 lakh. We received ₹90,000 in cash. We spent ₹30,000 on jewellery, ₹20,000 on sarees, ₹10,000 on DJ music and the rest on transportation. All the money is already spent.”
A relative added, “All rituals were completed. Just during sindoor, the groom’s hand shook, maybe due to noise or pressure. The girl suddenly said the groom is mad. Her family then started demanding the money back.”
The matter remains unresolved, with no legal complaint filed yet, but the incident has left both families in emotional and financial distress.
