Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, widely known as Bageshwar Dham Baba, has landed in controversy again, this time over his attire and timing. While touring Australia for a religious Katha, pictures of the spiritual figure in designer sunglasses and a stylish jacket aboard a plane and cruise ship went viral online. The images surfaced shortly after the tragic plane crash in Ahmedabad that claimed over 274 lives.
Many social media users accused the young spiritual leader of insensitivity, pointing out the stark contrast between his luxurious look and his once humble image. “From plastic chair to private cruise—saint or celebrity?” read one viral post.
Baba Breaks Silence in Fiji
Responding to the uproar, Bageshwar Baba addressed the criticism during an event in Fiji. Referring to the person who posted the viral video, he said, “If you have a problem with my jacket and glasses, let me tell you, they weren’t bought, they were gifted by devotees.”
He further explained that the Dakshina (offerings) received during Kathas isn’t used for personal indulgence. “We are building a cancer hospital, and we support poor girls with this money,” he said, urging critics to stop spreading “worthless negativity.”
Debate Rages On
While his supporters argue that the outrage is unwarranted and driven by jealousy, others insist that spiritual leaders must maintain a balanced image, especially during times of national mourning.
Notably, this isn’t the first time Bageshwar Baba has stirred debate beyond the spiritual realm. His meteoric rise—fueled by large gatherings, miracle claims, and political connections, has often split public opinion.
