In a deeply disturbing incident from Andhra Pradesh’s Chittoor district, a 29-year-old woman named Sirisha was tied to a tree and publicly humiliated over her husband’s unpaid debt of ₹80,000. The shocking act was caught on video and has since gone viral on social media, triggering widespread condemnation.

Targeted Over Husband’s Loan

Sirisha’s husband, Thimmarayappa, had reportedly taken a loan of ₹80,000 from a local villager named Munikannappa. However, he left Sirisha around six months ago and has not been in contact since. When Sirisha recently returned to her village from Bengaluru to collect her child’s school transfer certificate, locals confronted her about the unpaid loan.

Failing to repay the money, she was forcibly tied to a tree by villagers, including women, who wrapped a rope around her saree-clad body and verbally abused her. She was also allegedly beaten in public and told to call her husband to settle the dispute. In the viral footage, Sirisha appears distressed and helpless as the mob surrounds her.

Police Take Action

Sirisha later filed a police complaint at the nearest station. Based on her statement, authorities registered a case under BNS sections 115, 126, and 112 read with section 3. Police have arrested five individuals, including Munikannappa and his family members, in connection with the incident.

CM Naidu Orders Strict Measures

Reacting to the horrifying act, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu strongly condemned the public shaming. “Such atrocities will not be tolerated,” he stated, while directing law enforcement officials to ensure strict action is taken against all those involved.
