Australian journalist Lauren Tomasi, currently serving as the US correspondent for ‘Nine News’, was injured by a rubber bullet while covering the protests and riots in Los Angeles on Sunday. The chaos escalated quickly as Tomasi was struck in the leg during her on-ground coverage.
The incident took place as police attempted to disperse crowds during the Los Angeles protest. It can be seen in the video footage that a police officer is pointing his weapon directly toward Tomasi and her cameraman before firing. Tomasi is then heard screaming in pain, clutching her calf as a shocked bystander shouts, “You just shot the f—— reporter!”

Despite being hurt, Tomasi remained composed and quickly responded to a nearby individual’s concern with, “I’m good,” before moving away from the scene with her camera operator to find safety.
While she hasn’t issued an official statement about the incident yet, Tomasi did post a live update on social media from the site of the protests. “8pm. Dozens of police have just moved in. Another attempt to move people on. Flash bang grenades – then fireworks – going off,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). This shows her dedication and passion towards journalism.
