The Pentagon said Friday that it was preparing to sell an estimated $7.4 billion in military equipment to Israel, including missiles and munitions, as a fragile ceasefire holds in Gaza.
The Pentagon stated that the US State Department has authorized a $6.75 billion deal, which consists of munitions, guidance kits, and fuses, and Boeing will be one of the major contractors for this deal. In another agreement, it was approved for the sale of Hellfire missiles valued at about $660 million, with Lockheed Martin as the primary contractor.
This latest development comes after a proposed $8 billion arms sale to Israel initially notified the Congress back in January as part of former President Joe Biden’s administration. Two US officials said the proposal had been submitted ahead of Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20.
Trump has been very vocal about his support for Israel and made a shocking statement earlier this week, saying that he expects Gaza to fall under US control.
Before this happens, the arms sales must be approved by both the House of Representatives and Senate committees.
