The US State Department on Sunday issued a “worldwide caution” alert, saying that the Israel-Iran conflict may raise serious security concerns for Americans abroad.
Officials said the unrest in the Middle East has already caused travel disruptions and closed airspace in multiple regions. As the alert noted, “There is also a risk of protests targeting US citizens and interests overseas.”
The agency urged Americans to “be extra cautious worldwide” and stay updated on local security conditions.
Iran Promises Consequences, But Alert Avoids Mention of Strikes
Although the alert stressed regional dangers, it did not directly mention the US airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities that happened just the night before.
Iran had earlier condemned the strikes. In a strong response, Tehran warned that the attacks would lead to “irreparable consequences.”
Iran Threatens Countries Hosting US Troops
After the strikes, Ali Akbar Velayati, a senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, declared that Iran would respond. He said, “Any country hosting American forces involved in attacks on Iran will be considered a legitimate target.”
His comment signals that Iran may strike back—not only at the US but also at allies who support its military actions.
US Starts Evacuations, Orders Embassy Staff to Leave
Meanwhile, the US government began evacuation flights from Israel for American citizens and permanent residents.
It also took immediate diplomatic steps. The State Department ordered staff to leave its embassies in Iraq and Lebanon, fearing potential retaliation or unrest.
