Iran fired another wave of missiles at Israel on Tuesday, as the deadly war between the two antagonists entered its fifth straight day. The attacks follow an intensifying cycle of retaliation that began after Israel bombed Iran’s capital, Tehran, and its nuclear facilities last Friday, the Israeli military said.
To date, at least 224 individuals have died in Iran and 24 in Israel, with thousands injured in both nations. The conflict has displaced many civilians from their homes, fleeing for safety outside the borders.
Both countries have persistently struck at military bases and major cities, fuelling speculation of a wider regional conflict. The escalating violence has prompted increased international alarm, particularly from nations that have personnel deployed in the region.
Earlier on Tuesday, US President Donald Trump made a stern threat, saying any Iranian attack on American forces deployed in the Middle East would be met with rapid and severe action. “The gloves are off,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One after returning from the G7 summit. “They know better than to touch our people.
Iran, however, says it is not building nuclear weapons a charge it maintains refutes Israel’s reason for carrying out pre-emptive air strikes.
