In a major development that could reshape the future of Middle Eastern geopolitics, US President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran. Trump shared the update via Truth Social, calling it a “Complete and Total CEASEFIRE” that would be phased in over the next 24 hours.
“CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE! It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE,” Trump wrote. He claimed the agreement would bring an “Official END” to what he termed as “The 12-Day War.”
Phased Ceasefire Process
According to Trump, Israel and Iran will have six hours to complete any final operations already underway. After that, a 12-hour ceasefire will begin, during which the war will be considered officially ended.
He expressed confidence in the process, saying both countries had shown “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” to reach this critical agreement.
No Official Response Yet from Israel or Iran
Despite Trump’s bold announcement, neither Iran nor Israel have officially confirmed the ceasefire deal. The world is now watching closely for statements or military movement that may affirm or contradict the news.
What Sparked the Ceasefire Move?
The ceasefire announcement comes just hours after Iran retaliated for US airstrikes on its nuclear sites by launching a missile attack on a US air base in Qatar. Trump previously thanked Iran for giving the US and its allies “early notice” of the retaliation.
“This is a war that could have gone on for years and destroyed the entire Middle East,” Trump wrote, adding, “But it didn’t — and never will.”
Background: Escalation Since June 13
Tensions between Israel and Iran had sharply escalated since June 13, with both sides exchanging repeated airstrikes. The US has remained actively involved, both militarily and diplomatically, with Trump playing a key role in brokering what could now be a turning point in the region.
