Eleven individuals died, and at least 12 others were injured when a bus turned over in southern Mexico on Monday morning, Oaxaca authorities confirmed.

The accident took place close to the tiny town of Santo Domingo Narro, although officials have not yet established the cause, the state government stated in a release.

Oaxaca Governor Salomon Jara sent his condolences to the families of the victims, promising them all the support they need at this moment.

State Interior Minister Jesus Romero, on local radio, said the bus had more than 40 passengers and was headed towards the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. Initial reports indicate the passengers were going home after attending a rally in Mexico City on Sunday, organized by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
