At least 11 people were injured in a mass stabbing on Sunday evening at the Union Gospel Mission men’s shelter in Salem, Oregon, according to a report by KGW8. The shelter is located on the 700 block of Commercial Street Northeast.
Suspect Arrested at the Scene
Police confirmed that the male suspect involved in the attack has been arrested. The Salem Police Department said in an official statement, “11 victims were transported to Salem Health for medical treatment, each with varying types of injuries. Their status at present is unknown.” They added, “The male suspect in the incident is in custody.”
Ongoing Investigation and Street Closures
Detectives are still investigating the scene, and police have not released any additional information yet. “No further information is available for release as detectives are on scene now investigating the incident,” the department noted.
Due to the investigation, authorities have closed southbound Commercial Street at Northeast D Street. Traffic is being rerouted west onto D Street and then north onto Front Street.

“Police activity in downtown #salemoregon on the investigation of a stabbing incident w/mult victims transpx for care. The suspect is in custody. Southbound Commercial ST at D ST NE is closed, and motorists are being diverted west on D ST to Front ST NE. NFI.”

Videos shared on social media appear to show officers arresting the suspect at the scene. However, officials have not yet released the suspect’s name or the motive behind the attack.
