India Condemns Attack on Hindu Community Outside Temple in Canada by Pro-Khalistani

India Condemns Attack on Temple in Canada by Pro-Khalistani Mob

India has strongly condemned the attack on Hindu community by a pro-Khalistani mob outside a temple in Brampton, Canada. The Indian consulate released a statement saying, “We have seen violent disruption today orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp co-organized with the Hindu Sabha Mandir, Brampton, near Toronto.”

Security Concerns Raised

The consulate highlighted that due to the ongoing security situation in Canada, they had previously requested the Canadian authorities to implement robust security measures for such events, which are part of routine consular activities.

Details of the Incident

Videos of the incident have circulated widely on social media, showing a group of men wielding sticks attacking worshippers outside the temple. The mob was also seen carrying flags associated with pro-Khalistani groups. The Hindu Canadian Foundation, a community non-profit organization, reported that the attack involved women and children among those targeted.

Political Reaction

Chandra Arya, a federal lawmaker from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal Party, condemned the attack, attributing it to “Khalistanis,” who support a separatist movement advocating for an independent Sikh homeland in India’s Punjab region. Arya stated that a “red line has been crossed” by these Khalistani extremists, emphasizing the alarming rise of violent extremism in Canada.

Ongoing Pattern of Attacks on Temples

This latest attack is part of a troubling pattern of similar incidents in Canada, highlighting a growing issue of religious intolerance. In July, Arya expressed serious concerns over violence aimed at Hindu-Canadian communities, noting that the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton had been vandalized again. He pointed out that over recent years, Hindu temples in the Greater Toronto Area, British Columbia, and other regions in Canada have been repeatedly targeted with hateful graffiti.

Additionally, last year, a Hindu temple in Windsor was defaced with anti-India graffiti, leading to widespread outrage and calls for action from both Canadian and Indian officials. Earlier incidents in Mississauga and Brampton also saw temples attacked, prompting strong reactions from the Indian community in Canada.
