Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and the Emirates Media Council, led the council’s first meeting of 2025. He emphasized the UAE’s steady progress in establishing itself as a global media hub through innovative policies, digital transformation, and investment in the sector.

He highlighted that under the directives of the UAE leadership, the council is shaping policies that enhance the country’s media competitiveness on a regional and global scale.

Review of 2024 Media Performance

The council examined key performance indicators for 2024, including:

  • Issuing over 9,000 media licenses
  • Granting 600 social media licenses to individuals and companies
  • Approving 244 filming permits
  • Licensing 149 scripts for films, series, and plays
  • Issuing 4,429 international book numbers (ISBNs)

Additionally, the council regulated the entry of approximately one million books and approved 1,262 film screenings and 374 electronic games, ensuring compliance with UAE media standards.

Ensuring Responsible Media Content

The council prevented the entry of over 9,000 media materials that violated content regulations, reinforcing a responsible media environment that aligns with national values and ethical standards.

Empowering Emirati Media Talent

The “Media Professionals” programme, launched by the Emirates Media Council in collaboration with Nafis, was reviewed during the meeting. This initiative has:

  • Attracted leading global media companies
  • Created job opportunities for young Emirati talents
  • Enhanced digital skills for national media professionals

In just six months, the programme surpassed its targets, supporting Emirati talent in adapting to digital media transformations.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With 2025 marking a Jubilee year of celebrations, the council aims to strengthen the UAE’s media sector through further innovation, investments, and regulatory improvements. The continued focus will be on facilitating media business growth while maintaining high content standards.

The meeting was attended by top officials, including Sheikh Abdullah bin Humaid Al Qasimi, Saeed Mohammed Al Eter, Tariq Alai Al Naqbi, Nasser Mohammed Al Yamahi, Saeed Saif Al Matrooshi, Mohammed Saeed Al Shehhi, and Maitha Majid Al Suwaidi.
