A man in Memphis said his one-year-old pitbull shot him while he was in bed with his female friend, reported WREG. As a result, he suffered a minor gunshot injury.

Police Respond but Find No Gun

Soon after receiving the report, Memphis police arrived at the scene. They found the injured man and his dog, Oreo. However, they did not find a firearm. According to the man, his female friend had taken the gun before officers arrived.

How Did the Dog Fire the Gun?

The man explained that Oreo’s paw got stuck in the trigger guard, which caused the gun to fire. Consequently, the bullet grazed his thigh. Shortly after, paramedics took him to the hospital for treatment.

Freak Accident

A friend of the injured man described it as a freak accident. “The dog jumped up and caused the gun to discharge,” the friend told reporters.

Additionally, the man’s female friend told FOX13 that the dog was playful and liked to jump around. When asked what woke her up, she responded, “The gunshot.”

Other Accidental Shootings

Unfortunately, accidental gun discharges have resulted in multiple deaths. For instance, last year, 23-year-old Aryan Reddy from Telangana died in a similar incident. While celebrating his birthday, he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun. His friends rushed to his room after hearing the gunshot and found him in a pool of blood.

Meanwhile, authorities continue investigating the Memphis case.
