Initially, it was a tornado, then it’s a volcano, dramatic natural settings are the new in-thing for proposal ideas to remember. Last month, a South Dakota man captured headlines proposing with a huge tornado in the background. The viral clip was all over the internet’s imagination. Another couple has now upped the ante by getting engaged before real molten lava. That’s right.

Washington, D.C.’s Mark Stewart recently posted stunning photos on Instagram of when he proposed to long-time girlfriend Olivia Post. Mark opted to use Kilauea, one of the globe’s busiest volcanoes, in Hawaii as the backdrop for proposing to his girlfriend.

In the dramatic photos, it is seen that lava erupting in the foreground is glowing as Mark extends the engagement ring. The moment was both gorgeous and brazen. Naturally, Olivia accepted, making the dramatic moment all the more special. Mark’s post also featured a poignant photo of the couple embracing immediately after she said yes.

Mark wrote in his caption, “Yesterday I asked my long-time girlfriend Olivia Post, she said yes! It was absolutely once in a lifetime to do so in front of Kilauea. Thank you, Pele, for this moment!”

Internet Reacts

The photographs went viral upon appearing on a popular Instagram account. Like the lava, comments flowed teeming with humor, puns, and lots of good wishes.

One commented, “This is so wild and on fire mark!! Congrats, you two!! What an epic proposal!!” Another added, “Okay, this 100 per cent deserves the epithet ‘epic.’ Congratulations, lovebirds.” Another announced, “The coolest engagement photo I’ve ever seen.”

The comment section also experienced such tongue-in-cheek remarks as, “You are the lava of my life,” and even morbid humor: “Literally till death do us part.” Other supporters commented with, “The hottest proposal ever,” “No cold feet for this couple,” “Love is on fire,” and “I hope they have lava cake at the wedding.”

In January, when fire raged through Los Angeles, countless families suffered agonizing losses. But for a couple, disaster was transformed into a moment of a lifetime.

According to Accuweather.com, Brian McShea and Stephanie Raynor lost their Altadena house to the fire. While digging through the rubble, Brian found the engagement ring that he had stashed in a drawer, holding it back for the perfect moment. He didn’t waste any time before getting down on one knee and popping the question to Stephanie amidst the ruins. Amidst all the devastation, that little gesture gave them hope and a chance at a fresh start.
