Several social media reports have indicated that there was a mass shooting in Chicago’s downtown area, with reports that nine or more people had been shot. Conflicting reports have since been posted, with some reports stating that 12 were victims. As of the moment, no confirmation has been given on the number of injured individuals.
The shooting occurred between Franklin Avenue and Chicago Avenue, around the spot where Haywood was struck down, according to Cedar News. X videos captured the large police turnout at the scene. One of those posts was a warning from Chicago Fire-Digital that reported there was a “Mass Casualty Incident.”
The caption that went with it read, “Mass casualty event in downtown Chicago on Franklin and Chicago Avenue at least 12 people shot and injured massive police and emergency response ongoing.”

Adding to the information, an X post from Citizen indicated that officials believe the attack was a “drive-by shooting with multiple vehicles.” Criticism of city leaders has also emerged online.
In one biting remark, a user posted, “Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is not keeping Chicago prosperous and safe. He is making people actually miss Lori Lightfoot. HE SHOULD RESIGN IN SHAME FOR INCOMPETENCE!”
Additional speculation was seen in a separate post on X that proposed, “Sounds like there are 12 victims of gunshot wounds in this shooting which occurred in a nightclub at 311 W Chicago. Some of those would have declined transport which explains the difference. Initial reports are that at least one person is possibly dead.”
