In a tragic attack in Columbus, Ohio, 7-month-old baby girl Elizah Turner died after she was attacked by one of the three pit bulls belonging to her family.

The mother of the child, Mackenzie Copley, expressed her pain in a Facebook post, where she wrote, “I will never know why!!!” Sharing photos with her emotional caption, she showed baby Elizah peacefully sleeping with the dogs. “I am so broken and lost. This was the exact same dog who was side by side with my baby every single day,” she continued to say, as reported by the New York Post.

Elizah’s father, Kameron Turner, also took to social media to lament the death of his daughter, saying, “Life is so not fair. How can I keep living without her?”

Details of the Incident

The accident occurred at a residence on the 3700 block of South Champion Avenue, where Columbus Police were called to the scene. Sgt. James Fuqua affirmed that the baby was bitten by one of the family dogs, according to WBNS.

Terming the incident as a tremendous and sudden loss, Sgt. Fuqua narrated that things happened very rapidly and seemed like an accident. “There are not a lot of words that I can use to describe how I feel and how the officers who responded. Everyone in this process is grieving as if this child was theirs because most of us are parents and can’t even imagine how this scene is,” he remarked.

All three dogs have been taken into custody by Franklin County Animal Control. Their fate will be decided after a thorough investigation.

Elizah’s obituary captured her as a bright spot in her family’s life: “Lizah was spunky, happy… and she was never without a smile. She brought light to everyone’s life, healed her family’s hearts and gave them all purpose. Elizah’s face would light up the room and her laugh was contagious.”
