Earthquake Hits Bihar’s Siwan After Delhi-NCR, PM Modi Advises Caution

An earthquake of 4.0 magnitude hit Siwan, Bihar, at 8:02 AM on Monday morning. The tremors occurred at a depth of 10 km, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS).

Details of the Seismic Activity

The NCS shared the earthquake details on X, stating: “EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 08:02:08 IST, Lat: 25.93 N, Long: 84.42 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Siwan, Bihar.”

Delhi-NCR Experiences Similar Tremors

Hours earlier, another earthquake of the same magnitude struck Delhi-NCR at 5:36 AM. The tremors, which originated at a depth of 5 km, caused widespread panic, prompting residents to rush out of their homes.

Prime Minister Urges Calm and Safety

In response to the earthquake, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to stay calm and follow safety precautions. He posted on X: “Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation.”
