David Beckham is finally set to receive a knighthood from King Charles III in the upcoming King’s Birthday Honours list, a moment that celebrates not just his iconic football career, but also the years he’s spent giving back through charity work and public service.
The 50-year-old former England captain, who earned 115 caps and scored in three different World Cups, has long been celebrated for his impact on and off the pitch. His wife, Victoria Beckham, will accordingly be styled as “Lady Beckham.”
Beckham’s path to knighthood hasn’t been without its bumps. Though he was considered for the honour back in 2011, it was delayed due to a tax investigation, a matter he was later cleared of. Even with that setback, Beckham didn’t slow down. Beckham has also advocated for children’s rights and global quality. He is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador for the same since 2005. The King’s Foundation also appointed him as an ambassador in 2024. Under this, he focuses on youth education and protecting the environment.
Beckham’s Relationship With The Royal Family
He also shares a warm and longstanding bond with the royal family. He’s been seen at royal weddings, state dinners, and most recently appeared with King Charles and Queen Camilla at the Chelsea Flower Show, showing just how invested he is in both royal causes and public service. Receiving his knighthood, Beckham steps into the ranks of British football greats like Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Sir Gareth Southgate.
This recognition is not just about what he’s achieved in football, but more so about his efforts off the field, in which he has done good for people across multiple fields. Beckham is a great personality to admire for the youth of today, both for his dedication on the field and off of it.
