The heartfelt gesture quickly gained attention online, with many praising the agent’s determination and creative approach to job hunting.
</excerpt>

A Bengaluru delivery executive for Zomato went viral for trying something quite a bit unusual and sweet in trying to land an internship during summer. Accompanying an order of food was a handwritten application note for an internship in marketing, impressing quite a lot of people on social media.

The customer, Nikhil C, a Bengaluru-based solutions engineer posted a picture of the note on LinkedIn after finding it stuffed into his food order. He and his colleague Yash Kondewar had ordered food during a late work night at Shopflo.

It was a late night at work at shopflo when my colleague Yash Kondewar and I had ordered food from Zomato, just trying to navigate through a long night. But with the food arrived a handwritten note from the delivery partner,” Nikhil posted.

The handwritten note was brief but forceful. The delivery partner identified himself as a college student looking for a marketing internship, not sales. “I am a college student seeking a summer internship in marketing (NOT sales). Do contact me,” the note said, followed by a phone number. On the other hand, he even apologized for his “awful handwriting.”

Nikhil was touched by the initiative of the agent. “That note struck me. Among the chaos of deliveries, this individual took a chance at connecting – handwritten, bold, and optimistic,” he posted. “It made me remember how opportunities do not always present themselves in formal ways – sometimes, they’re jotted down on paper in the midst of a delivery route.”

The post inspired admiration on many online. “It takes tons of courage to do the ‘not so obvious thing’ and put yourself in a vulnerable spot (at least in your mind). Hope they found the internship,” commented one person.

Another penned, “Being a college student myself, this actually really motivated me. It’s not very easy to expose yourself like that, let alone in such a non-traditional manner. Huge respect to the delivery partner for being so bold and innovative!”

Interestingly enough, an individual named Karan Andani posted a comment on the post afterwards, claiming he was the one who wrote the note.

The agent explained that if customers don’t receive their orders, Zomato allows delivery staff to mark it as delivered and consume the food. The story went viral, prompting a shift in perspective on the situation.
</excerpt>

A recent incident of a Zomato food delivery staff consuming a customer’s food took an unexpected turn. The delivery man was eating food on the road and, based on first impressions, Kiran Verma, a man from Delhi, assumed he was eating someone else’s order. However, after confronting the man, Verma found out that this was a practice permitted by Zomato under certain conditions.

On his LinkedIn post, Verma explained that he was going to park his vehicle in a space that was already taken by the delivery man. He waited for him to complete, and while doing so, he snapped a photo of the scene. When he went near the delivery fellow, he saw that the man was eating what was a missed order after their customer had missed picking it at the drop place for a pretty long time. Zomato allows delivery partners to flag these orders as “delivered” and eat from them if left unclaimed by the customer, as per the delivery man.

Verma’s exchange with the delivery agent showed that the young man was a graduate who had been forced to accept the delivery work after failing to get a job elsewhere. In awe of the explanation, Verma admired Zomato’s policy and the considerate mindset of its management. He also asked others not to judge individuals without hearing their whole story.

Verma posted the incident on the internet, and it immediately went viral, evoking varied reactions. His post stated, “Thanks Zomato for this nice unethical deed! Yesterday, I was parking my vehicle in Noida when I noticed this biker having food on his bike. Since that was the only spot to park the vehicle around, so I thought to wait for him. That’s when I took the first photo and I thought he would be another delivery boy having someone’s food.”

He said that in Hindi, but he was speaking like an educated guy. I asked him his name, and he mentioned ‘Vishal’ (name changed). For curiosity, I asked him why are you having food so late (it was 5 pm). He said, ‘Sir, I took this order at about 2 pm and I headed to deliver the food, but no one arrived to take the order.’ Zomato individuals instructed him to mark it delivered.

The delivery man continued to break down the process, “Technically this occurs to prevent further tries to cut cost to company on orders. If the order wasn’t delivered, but to allow payment to the delivery guy, the system should flag the order as delivered. Then he can do whatever with that food technically.

Verma’s three-day-old post, which almost reached 1,000 reactions, spoke about the intricacies and nuances of such incidents.

CEO Deepinder Goyal explained the name change follows more than two years of internal use and the acquisition of Blinkit. He emphasized the weight and challenge of living up to the “Eternal” name.
</excerpt>

On Thursday, the food delivery giant Zomato announced that it would change its name to ‘Eternal’, revealing a new logo as it completes more than two years of using the name internally. This was after receiving the nod of approval from its board of directors. CEO Deepinder Goyal encouraged shareholders to approve the move.

“If and when it is approved, our corporate website will change from zomato.com to eternal.com. We will also change our stock ticker from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. Eternal will include four major businesses (as of now) – Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure,” Goyal stated in a letter to shareholders.

Zomato rebrands as Eternal

The company first began using the name ‘Eternal’ internally after acquiring Blinkit, distinguishing it from the Zomato brand and app. “We also thought that we would publicly rename the company to Eternal, the day something beyond Zomato became a significant driver of our future,” Goyal explained, adding, “Today, with Blinkit, I feel we are there.

Recalling the Zomato’s journey, Goyal remembered the day when company first began from the name of Foodiebay which was changed to Zomato in the year 2007. And then, along with this passage of time, it emerged to be the very first Indian Startup listed on Sensex and marked the entry to BSE Sensex on last 23 December.

“This journey has created enormous wealth-not only for me, but also our employees, institutional investors, and retail shareholders,” Goyal added. But I didn’t start Zomato to make money. I started it because I wanted to do something worthwhile with my life. One weekend, I went around town, collected takeaway menus, and uploaded them onto a website — purely in the spirit of service. I never thought it could be a business. I wasn’t looking for revenue. I was simply trying to be helpful,” he wrote. There is weight, and there’s expectation attached to that word,” Goyal acknowledged, on speaking about the importance of this new name. “Eternal is a bold name, and honestly, it scares me to my core. It is a huge order to be proved true. Because ‘Eternal’ carries both a promise and a paradox. True permanence isn’t built on bold claims of invincibility or the swagger of success,” he concluded.

Zomato’s report highlights India’s evolving food habits, emphasizing a love for both dining out and ordering in. As 2024 comes to a close, it’s clear that India’s affection for biryani, tea, and dining experiences remains stronger than ever—proving that food is truly a celebration for every Indian.

Biryani: India’s Unmatched Favourite

For the ninth consecutive year, biryani secured its place as the most-ordered dish in India. Pizza trailed behind as the second most-ordered item, with over 5.8 crore deliveries.

In the beverage category, tea emerged as the frontrunner, with 77.76 lakh orders, surpassing coffee’s 74.32 lakh orders. Despite coffee’s rising popularity, tea remained India’s top choice for yet another year.

Bengaluru Foodie’s ₹5 Lakh Splurge

One of the standout revelations of the report was a Bengaluru diner’s extravagant spending. This food enthusiast shelled out ₹5,13,733 on a single restaurant bill, making headlines as the highest dining out expense recorded this year.

Zomato’s 2024 report not only underscores India’s unwavering love for biryani but also highlights evolving dining habits and spending trends, making it clear that food continues to unite and delight the country.

In the video, Mr. Hardia is seen questioning the delivery agent, asking, “Do you ever dress as Lord Ram during Diwali?” The agent said that the company had asked him to wear the costume for the holiday season.

Despite the clarification, the distribution agent was asked to take off the costume on the spot. Mr. Hardia stated that such actions send a wrong message to children and that there should be better icons like Bhagat Singh or Chandrashekhar Azad for the message of inspiration.

</excerpt>

A techie’s post accusing Zomato of overcharging for water bottles at an event has gone viral on social media. The X user, Pallab De, alleged that the company sold Rs. 10 water bottles for Rs. 100 at a concert venue, where there was a restriction on taking one’s own bottle into the venue. Sharing his bill, De questioned, “How is Zomato allowed to sell Rs. 10 water bottles for Rs. 100 at concert venues?

“His post, tagging an advocate from the Telangana High Court, quickly went viral.
Zomato’s Response

Zomato responded to the post by clarifying their role in the event. “Hi Pallab, we’re sorry for your experience. While we weren’t the event organisers but the ticketing partner, we’ve noted your feedback and will ensure it helps us improve our own events moving forward,” the company wrote in the comments.

De also trolled Eva Live, the event organizers, by tagging them, saying that they are overcharging for the water bottles. He uploaded a picture of the bottle, which has an MRP of Rs. 10, fueling the fire that is burning in the debate about such events charging unreasonable prices.

How is @zomato allowed to sell Rs. 10 water bottles for Rs. 100 at concert venues where no one is allowed to bring their own bottles?@VijayGopal_ pic.twitter.com/clQWDcIb7m

— Pallab De (@indyan) December 17, 2024

Social Media Reactions

The post evoked a great debate, where most users favored the techie. “This is not fancy; this is outright theft, and everybody should raise their voices against these people,” one wrote. Another was of the legal action plan, saying, “If the MRP is Rs. 10, sue them.

Some of the users pointed out loopholes in the system. One user commented, “They will change the MRP definition overnight from Maximum to Minimum Retail Price,” and another added, “After the SC ruling against selling above MRP, they’ve started collaborating with companies to print higher MRPs!” A lighter comment was, “When you’re thirsty, your wallet gets drained!”

Understanding MRP

MRP is the highest price through which a product can be sold to consumers in India along with all taxes. Charges made by retailers above the MRP violate consumer protection laws; thereby, the consumers do not have to pay extra to anyone. Have you ever been in such a scenario? What do you feel about this incident?

</excerpt>

Shark Tank India, an Indian Hindi-language business reality television series that airs on Sony Entertainment Television, is set to premiere its Season 4. This year’s panel will be missing Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, despite the fact that he has already begun filming for the show and has one episode scheduled.

The controversy arose when news of Swiggy, Zomato’s competitor in the food delivery business came out as one of the show’s sponsors. Deepinder Goyal also claimed that he had been kicked out of the show because of Swiggy, stating,, “The startup culture of India is too much about showmanship. I went there to set a different narrative, be real, and change how people perceive. I felt a moral obligation to go there. I shot for one weekend and gave my perspective. I, unfortunately, can’t go back because Swiggy sponsored Shark Tank and kicked me out, at least that’s what I heard.”

Responding to Goyal’s statement, Danish Khan, Business Head at SonyLIV, said, “Everything that comes in newspapers is not always true. We would love to have him at some point. One needs to understand that we have around 50 episodes, and there are permutations regarding the sharks’ availability. They are all busy running their organizations, and we get them to spend weekends with us. I won’t say much, but there’s no such thing as reported. Some sharks have been on the show for four seasons, and we hope to see them next time too.”

Aman Gupta, BoAT founder, also said, “Aisa kuch nahi hai (There’s nothing like this). I am the perfect example. I have not sponsored this show, and yet I have been on this show for the last four seasons. So, I will never say that the makers did this for money. I feel indebted that they chose us and made us sharks.”. I can vouch for it and give in writing that I haven’t paid a single penny. It is a beautiful feeling to be here, and I hope that it continues. Sharks may come and go; change will always be there—in fact, except for me. This is life.

In this new season of Shark Tank India, Viraj Bahl, Founder and MD of Veeba, will be seen as the newest shark, to which he added saying, “I am only happy. Deepinder gaya toh mere ko jagah mil gaya (Because Deepinder left, I got this spot). I can write a thank-you note to Zomato.

Along Viraj Bahl, some of the sharks featuring in the show would include Anupam Mittal, Namita Thapar, Vineeta Singh, Aman Gupta, Ritesh Agarwal, Peyush Bansal, Azhar Iqubal, Kunal Bahl and Varun Dua. Shark Tank India Season 4 will stream on SonyLIV from 6th January 2025.

</excerpt>

A Bengaluru-based techie, Sunny Gupta, recently shared his unique experience of ordering food through Zomato while traveling on a train. On his journey from Mumbai to Pune, Gupta decided to try Zomato’s new feature after he saw a prompt asking him to enter his Passenger Name Record (PNR). Intrigued by the idea, he placed an order for Triple Schezwan rice and documented the entire process in a viral thread on X (formerly Twitter).

Gupta explained that Zomato allows passengers to order food for delivery to upcoming stations, and he chose Panvel as his delivery location. Passengers can also place orders up to four days in advance and have the option to cancel before the preparation begins. Gupta ordered a meal worth ₹465 to be delivered directly to his berth on the Mumbai-Pune train.

Decided to skip ordering from the attendant and give Zomato on Train a chance.

Found this hotel serving Triple Shezwan Rice. I have an option to choose delivery an any upcoming station. Picked Panvel! pic.twitter.com/8FZkKC9MAZ

— Sunny R Gupta (@sunnykgupta) November 27, 2024

However, things didn’t go exactly as planned when the train was delayed. “The train is running delayed and Zomato says my food is prepped and waiting at the station,” Gupta wrote on X. He humorously added, “This is probably the first time I am taking revenge on Zomato. Food delivery guy is waiting for me and I’m running late.”

Gupta went on to share a video capturing the moment his food was delivered by a “polite guy,” expressing his overall satisfaction with the service. However, there was one issue he pointed out: the restaurant had failed to send any cutlery, despite Zomato’s instructions to provide plates and spoons, especially since passengers were on a train.

Alright so he is here!
Smooth handover. Polite guy. pic.twitter.com/AVQP13sQ3d

— Sunny R Gupta (@sunnykgupta) November 27, 2024

His post quickly went viral, racking up more than 8 lakh views on X, with many users sharing their own experiences. One respondent praised the service, writing, “This meals on train by Zomato is really a great feature. I have ordered it many a times, better than trains and you get direct hotel-made food which you can choose. Great initiative by Zomato.” Another user chimed in, “I tried a couple of times… Worked like a charm.”

However, not all feedback was positive. One user shared their disappointment, recalling, “I ordered a medium-sized pizza last time I was on the train which cost me about ₹460 something. The train was running late for about 2 hours. The pizza was cold and the experience was not so good.”

Gupta’s humorous yet informative post has sparked a broader conversation about food delivery options for train travelers, with many applauding Zomato’s initiative, while others remain cautious about potential delays.

Zomato has addressed the growing controversy surrounding so-called “one-dish” restaurants on its platform. These outlets, which listed mysterious items like “Naughty Strawberry” and “Merry Berry” at exorbitant prices, sparked widespread speculation and concern among users.

Zomato Cracks Down on Suspicious Listings

In response to inquiries, a Zomato spokesperson acknowledged the issue, stating that the company had identified and delisted potentially fraudulent restaurants. “We have noticed social media conversations around these single-dish restaurants and identified suspicious listings,” the spokesperson said. To address the issue comprehensively, Zomato also investigated other restaurants with limited menus to ensure no prohibited items or policy violations were present.

The company emphasized its adherence to regulatory standards, requiring all restaurants on the platform to hold an FSSAI license. Additionally, Zomato reassured users that they actively block items such as alcohol, cigarettes, and other prohibited products.

How the Fraud Operated

Zomato admitted that certain restaurants managed to bypass their checks by using generic food names like “Naughty Strawberry” and “Citrus Punch” to conceal their actual offerings. “We have further strengthened our fraud detection systems to proactively identify and prevent such incidents in the future,” the spokesperson added.

The ‘One-Dish’ Restaurant Trend

The phenomenon was first flagged by users on social media, particularly in Chandigarh, where restaurants offering a single dish with vague names and inflated prices began appearing on the app. A Reddit post detailing the trend highlighted the lack of reviews or negative feedback for these outlets, prompting speculation about their true purpose.

While some users humorously suggested these names referred to exotic flavors, others raised serious concerns, speculating about illegal activities such as drug delivery or money laundering.

Zomato Tightens Monitoring Measures

As part of its response, Zomato has implemented enhanced fraud checks to ensure the integrity of its platform. The company reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and transparent experience for its users.

This swift action aims to restore user trust and prevent similar incidents from undermining Zomato’s reputation as a trusted food delivery service.

Zomato’s Chief Executive Officer, Deepinder Goyal, has been on the receiving end of criticism after he advertised a senior position within the company of Chief of Staff that entails that the hired individual will pay Rupee twenty lakh for the chance and that there will be no salary for the first year. Deepinder Goyal took to X to share the listing, which said, “There is no salary for this role for the first year. You will have to, in fact, pay Rs 20 lacs for this opportunity.”

Deepinder Goyal had clarified that rather it was contingent upon the payment which in rupee twenty lakh will be made as a charitable contribution to an organization called “Feeding India” which is a charitable wing of Zomato. The payment which will be made to the professional will be more than rupees fifty lakhs per annum, only from the second year. Goyal also mentioned that the position required a combination of “common sense, empathy, and not a lot of experience,” assuring that it would be an experience worth more than an MBA degree.

Public Reaction Shows the Persisting Inequity and Elitism

The revelation was also widely criticized, with a lot of people calling on this move as an example of elitism and exploitation in the workplace. Detractors noted that in many cases this 20 lakh fee even disadvantages very skilled people who previously had high chances due to the exorbitant entry fee.

“Abhishek” who replied to the post, commented, “As if exploitive jigs workers weren’t enough, now come parents from the middle class with a ridiculous rate.” Others said this job posting is a ‘please APPLY IF YOU CAN AFFORD TO WORK FOR FREE’ which is dangerous and should not be done.

Another X user namely Mohak Mangal said, “You’ve already filtered for privilege by offering zero salary. This position is inaccessible to the financially responsible.”

The issue concerning inequity and inclusivity

Some users including Aman expressed that the amount would alienate many applicants who risk not understanding what the majority Indian people go through. “Asking for 20 lakh means that only those who have ‘daddy’s money’ can afford to apply” he expressed concern

What’s going on with Zomato in Chandigarh? ?

Fake ‘restaurants’ offering just ONE dish at absurd prices, with nonexistent addresses.
The listed items, with names like “Naughty Strawberry,” “Blue Adventure,” and “Citrus Punch,” intrigued users, leading some to suggest they might be covers for illicit activities like drug delivery or money laundering. “Came across some odd listings on Zomato in Chandigarh—so-called ‘restaurants’ that only offer a single dish, priced absurdly high. It’s got me wondering: could these be fronts for money laundering or some other shady business?” read a post on the Reddit.

Suspicious “one-dish” restaurants on Zomato (Chandigarh)

The original poster (OP) decided to investigate further by attempting to order from one of the restaurants. However, their order was automatically canceled, and the restaurant was marked as closed shortly after. “I tried placing an order, but it got automatically cancelled after some time, and the restaurant is now showing as closed,” the OP explained.

The post quickly gained traction, drawing several theories in the comments. One user suggested, “Those look like flavours of juice that you put into your vapes. Pricing also looks consistent.” Another shared a similar observation, stating, “True. I know of an exact such operation in another city that essentially sells vape pens/cartridges. The price is almost the same, Rs 1000–Rs 1200 per item.”

Adding to the mystery, a commenter speculated, “Could it be a way to deliver drugs? With prices this high, only a ‘few’ people will order. And those few will already know what it contains, i.e., drugs. Just a thought.”

Interestingly, one user noted that all the flagged outlets were listed under the same location, Nayagaon, which raised further suspicions about their legitimacy.

</excerpt>

Zomato has introduced a unique “Food Rescue” feature allowing users to buy cancelled food orders at a discounted rate. Announced by CEO Deepinder Goyal on X (formerly Twitter), the initiative is designed to reduce food waste by offering cancelled orders to nearby customers at lower prices. According to Goyal, over 4 lakh orders are cancelled on Zomato despite their no-refund policy. Under the new feature, these meals will be available for purchase in their original tamper-proof packaging and delivered within minutes.

Among the responses, a Bengaluru-based product manager named Bhanu offered specific recommendations, suggesting that Zomato limit the Food Rescue option for cash-on-delivery orders. Bhanu raised concerns about the possibility of users misusing the feature, humorously referencing “two friends sharing meals by ordering and canceling to secure discounts.” Goyal promptly responded, assuring him that Zomato has safeguards in place to prevent these issues.

Job Invitation for Fresh Ideas

Impressed by Bhanu’s insights, Goyal extended an invitation to learn more about him and explore potential collaboration. “Good thinking, btw. Who are you and what do you do? Would love to know you more, and see if we can work together,” Goyal wrote. Bhanu, who revealed he works as a product manager at a startup, shared that he frequently offers suggestions for service improvements and is an avid Blinkit user.

This interaction highlights Goyal’s hands-on approach to recruitment and innovation, particularly in engaging with fresh ideas to enhance Zomato’s services.

The clip opens with Sudha Murty aiming for an item she wants and tossing the ring with precision. Grecia follows suit and successfully lands her ring, while Deepinder misses his target. </excerpt>

Food and grocery delivery giant Swiggy’s initial public offering (IPO) worth $1.4 billion has been fully subscribed as of Friday, marking a significant milestone in India’s second-largest share sale of the year. Institutional investors showed strong demand, with the portion allocated to them being oversubscribed by 131%. Meanwhile, the retail investor portion was 97% subscribed.

Market Position and IPO Context

Swiggy holds a strong position as the No. 2 player in India’s food and grocery delivery market, trailing behind Zomato. The company has a 34% share in food delivery, while Zomato dominates with 58%. In the quick commerce segment, Swiggy’s Instamart holds 20-25% of the market, while Zomato’s Blinkit commands 40-45%, according to industry estimates.

Institutional Demand Reflects Long-Term Confidence

Despite Swiggy’s ongoing losses, analysts note that the IPO’s institutional subscription indicates strong long-term confidence in the company, particularly in India’s rapidly growing food delivery and quick-commerce market, which is dominated by Swiggy and Zomato.

Prashanth Tapse, senior vice president of research at Mehta Equities, remarked, “Institutional over-subscription on the third day … has happened as these investors generally subscribe keeping a long-term view – which looks strong for Swiggy given the duopolistic market in the booming food delivery and quick-commerce sector in India.”

However, Tapse cautioned that investors should not expect significant listing gains, given the current subdued market sentiment.

Despite strong demand from institutional investors, analysts expect Swiggy’s stock to have a muted debut when it lists on the exchanges next week. The company’s ongoing losses and broader market weakness are expected to keep its stock price under pressure. Swiggy posted a net loss of 23.5 billion rupees for the fiscal year ending March 2024, although this was a 44% improvement from the previous year.

While Zomato has managed to turn a profit in fiscal 2024 after a loss in the previous year, Swiggy’s profitability remains elusive, which could temper investor expectations for the IPO’s initial performance.

Ritik Tomar, who works as a part-time Zomato partner in Meerut, shared his Diwali experience on Instagram, where his post has now garnered 1.7 million views. Tomar documented his shift, which began at 5 pm with his first delivery, earning ₹40, and continued into the night, showcasing his routine of delivering orders to customers across the city.

A Day of Hard Work and Perseverance

In the video, Tomar candidly shared each delivery he made, including the income he earned. By the time he ended his shift around 11 pm, he had completed eight deliveries, earning a total of ₹310, not accounting for his fuel expenses and other overheads. Many Instagram users expressed appreciation for his hard work on such a festive night, with one suggesting he take the day off. To this, Tomar humbly replied, “I can’t. I’m working because of my need.”

After the resident entered the OTP for verification, the delivery agent unexpectedly began scolding him instead of leaving. “Ye bahot galat kar rahe ho aap, theek nahi hai yeh,” the agent said, criticizing the man for his food choice.

Perplexed, the resident inquired about what was wrong with his order. The delivery agent responded that he should refrain from eating chicken or mutton until after Diwali and stick to “clean” foods.

During a recent inspection of a Zomato warehouse in Hyderabad, food safety officials discovered 18 kilograms of button mushrooms labeled with a packing date of October 30, 2024, despite the inspection taking place on October 29, according to an NDTV report.

The incident occurred at Zomato’s Hyperpure warehouse located in Kukatpally, which operates as a Food Business Operator (FBO) licensed by the state. FBOs are responsible for supplying various products, including fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, gourmet foods, packaging materials, and kitchen equipment, to hotels, restaurants, and caterers.

Labeling products with a “future packing date” constitutes a violation of food safety regulations. This discovery coincides with officials uncovering significant food safety issues at sweet shops, a momo outlet, and shawarma units in the area, following health complaints in the lead-up to Diwali.

Inspectors also noted the presence of house flies inside the warehouse and pointed out that it lacked a proper insect-proof screen. Additionally, several food handlers were found not wearing hair caps and aprons, raising further concerns about hygiene.

Despite holding the necessary license, the warehouse had medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records. Zomato has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.

These findings follow a raid by a task force in June at a Blinkit warehouse (owned by Zomato) in Devar Yamjal, located in the Medchal Malkajgiri District near Hyderabad, where officials uncovered unhygienic conditions, expired products, and potentially infested food items, among other issues.

In response to the recent findings, Blinkit stated, “We take safety and hygiene standards very seriously. We are closely working with our warehouse partner and the Food Safety Department to implement corrective actions from the findings.”

</excerpt>

Global star Diljit Dosanjh launched his ‘Dil-Luminati’ India tour on October 26, beginning with a packed concert at New Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. His performance drew an enthusiastic crowd that caused notable traffic congestion across the city, with Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal among those navigating the scene. Goyal shared the experience on Instagram, posting, “Walking the last mile to the JLN stadium for Diljit. Sooooo much traffic.” He also shared an image of a sign listing prohibited items for the concert, such as “weapons and sharp objects, personal equipment, laser pointers, animals, flammable materials, and more.”

To manage the extra traffic from Dosanjh’s concert and a nearby Radha Soami Satsang gathering, Delhi Traffic Police issued a comprehensive advisory. They restricted heavy vehicles on Bhati Mines Road between Chattar Pur Road (SSN Marg) and the Gurgaon Road T-Point from 4:00 AM to 6:30 PM, also setting up diversions via Mandi Road-Jona Pur cut to Mehrauli-Gurugram Road and from Badh Road cut near Mallu Farm.

Dosanjh, who recently toured the US and Europe, is now focused on his Indian performances. Following his New Delhi shows, he’s set to entertain audiences in cities like Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Pune, Kolkata, Bangalore, Indore, Chandigarh, and Guwahati, with the first leg of his India tour running through Sunday.

In a recent move, Bengaluru-based food delivery platform Swiggy has raised its platform fee to ₹10 per order, a notable jump from its previous charge of ₹7. This price hike comes just a day after its Gurgaon-based rival, Zomato, also increased its platform fee to ₹10 during the festive season.

Zomato’s Festive Fee Hike

Zomato, which earlier charged a ₹7 platform fee, temporarily increased it to ₹10 per order, citing the need to maintain service quality during the festive rush. A notification on Zomato’s app explained, “This fee helps us pay our bills to keep Zomato running. To maintain services during the festive rush, it has increased slightly.” Zomato’s platform fee is expected to revert to its original pricing post-festive season.

Permanent Hike for Swiggy?

Unlike Zomato’s temporary festive increase, Swiggy has made no such clarification about a limited-time hike, implying that its ₹10 platform fee could be a permanent change. The lack of any notification on Swiggy’s app has led to speculation that this price hike will stay in place.

What Are Platform Fees?

Platform fees are additional charges applied to each food order which are separate from restaurant charges, delivery fees, and taxes. These fees help delivery platforms cover operational costs. It’s important to note that the platform fee also attracts an 18% Goods and Services Tax (GST). This means that Zomato’s customers now pay ₹11.80 per order as a platform fee, inclusive of tax.

Impact on Food Delivery Revenue

According to industry reports, Swiggy and Zomato handle around 2-2.5 million food orders per day. Any increase in platform fees significantly boosts their revenue, as these platforms continually seek ways to improve profitability.

Incidentally, Swiggy was the first to introduce platform fees, with Zomato following suit in 2023, initially charging a flat ₹2 per order. Since then, both companies have gradually increased this fee over time.

</excerpt>

Zomato is facing criticism for offering “fake paneer” to restaurants through its B2B service, Zomato Hyperpure. Although the product is labeled “Analogue Paneer” on the Zomato Hyperpure website, the manufacturer markets it as “fit for tikka and gravy paneer dishes,” which has raised concerns about food safety.

The issue of “fake paneer” gained traction after X user Sumit Behal shared his concerns on the social media platform, highlighting how restaurants do not inform customers about the use of this imitation cheese in their dishes.

“India loves paneer dishes, and restaurants sell fake paneer made with vegetable oils without any disclaimer. They made you believe that you are eating healthy food by eating varieties of paneer dishes over junk food,” he stated on X. “This is being sold on the website of Zomato for restaurants,” added the Gurgaon resident. His post sparked backlash against Zomato Hyperpure for facilitating food adulteration.

What is Analogue Paneer?

Analogue paneer, often referred to as fake or synthetic paneer, serves as a substitute for traditional paneer, crafted from cheaper, non-dairy ingredients. Unlike authentic paneer, which is derived from fresh milk curdled with lemon juice or vinegar, analogue paneer typically includes vegetable fats, starches, and other non-dairy components.

On Zomato Hyperpure, one listing describes analogue paneer as being “made from skimmed milk and vegetable oil,” noting that its “milk fat is replaced with vegetable fat.”

Why Do Restaurants Use Analogue Paneer?

The primary reason is cost-effectiveness. On Zomato Hyperpure, 1 kg of analogue paneer is priced around ₹210, while authentic paneer typically retails for approximately ₹450 per kg. This price difference allows restaurants to increase their profit margins, especially since they often do not disclose the use of fake paneer in their menu items.

Health Risks Associated with Analogue Paneer

Many people, particularly vegetarians, consume paneer for its protein benefits. The use of fake paneer raises questions about its nutritional quality. Additionally, a significant portion of analogue paneer contains hydrogenated vegetable fats, which may have trans fats. These can be detrimental to cardiovascular health and may heighten the risk of heart disease, elevated cholesterol levels, and inflammation.

</excerpt>

Rocky Singh, known for being one half of the beloved foodie duo from the TV show Highway On My Plate, has been appointed as a brand ambassador for Swiggy. The announcement came from the food delivery platform’s CEO, Rohit Kapoor, in a LinkedIn post. This partnership adds an intriguing twist to the ongoing competition between Swiggy and Zomato, as Singh’s former co-host, Mayur Sharma, is currently associated with Zomato. The duo had parted ways in 2022 due to personal reasons.

In a March 2023 Instagram update, Rocky shared his thoughts on their separation: “Hey all, almost 1 year since Mayur left for personal reasons and I’ve been working alone. We chat on the phone, but we both have our work to look after, so we don’t meet or chat as often as we would like. The love is all there and will always be – Regards Rocky.”

Swiggy’s Light-hearted Conversation

On Wednesday, Kapoor recounted a light-hearted chat he had with Rocky that ultimately led to his new role as Swiggy’s ambassador. “Rocky and I were doing chai-samose par charcha the other day… Rocky asked, ‘This 10-minute food delivery, how does it even work? Koi khana bana bhi raha hai ya only packets are being opened?’ I assured him it’s all fresh food from nearby restaurants—idlis, momos, chai, and samosas—all freshly prepared.”

Experiencing the Delivery Process

Kapoor further explained how he encouraged Rocky to experience the food delivery process firsthand by joining him on a few deliveries. In a video accompanying the announcement, both can be seen wearing Swiggy’s signature orange t-shirts as they ride bikes for deliveries. “Aisa karte hain, let’s do a few deliveries. We can meet the partners also. Rocky ko dekh ke, they’ll be happy. So, Rocky and I do a few Bolt deliveries aram se. And the other thunderbolt is that Rocky is a Swiggy Ambassador now,” Kapoor added.

</excerpt>

In an unusual incident, Zomato delivered an incorrect food order to a student in Hyderabad, prompting a peculiar reaction from the company. When the student, Ananya, raised her complaint about receiving chicken 65 instead of the ordered chicken manchurian, the response from Zomato was surprising: “please have it.”

The Mix-Up

Ananya placed her order for chicken manchurian through Zomato, but received chicken 65 instead. After noticing the error, she contacted Zomato’s customer care, a task made challenging since the introduction of their AI chatbot, Zia, which handles customer complaints.

Despite her efforts, the customer care representative, Syeda, was unable to resolve Ananya’s issue and instead encouraged her to “please have” the incorrect dish. Ananya shared a screenshot of her conversation on X, expressing her frustration: “I ordered chicken manchurian, not chicken 65.”

Customer Reactions

After five minutes, Syeda replied, “We request you to please have it… we are sure you will love it.” Ananya shared the exchange on social media, captioning it “Average Zomato experience.” The post quickly gained traction, accumulating nearly half a million views in just one day.

Reflecting on the bizarre response, Ananya said, “I was frustrated but that response was so unexpected that I just burst out laughing.” Later, Zomato contacted her to offer a full refund for the incorrect order.

Social Media Buzz

Many users on X found humor in Zomato’s response, sharing their own customer service experiences. One user commented, “Better than asking for photos of missing items,” while another remarked, “Zomato customer care is a joke. Scammers at best. I’ve switched to Swiggy.”

A user named Ishan tagged Zomato’s CEO, Deepinder Goyal, urging him to improve customer care responses, stating, “Hey Deepinder Goyal, improve your customer care responses, instead of just blindly running after profitability to keep shareholders happy.”

</excerpt>

In a heartwarming and amusing social media post, a Gurgaon-based Zomato employee, Baahar Batra, shared a delightful story that resonated with many about how far mothers will go to help their children. Batra had forgotten her AirPods at home and asked her mother to send them via a delivery service. What followed was a humorous and elaborate packaging method that sparked joy online.

The ‘Dabba’ Surprise

Batra’s post, which has gathered over four lakh views, recounted how she requested her mother to send the AirPods with a delivery guy without disclosing their contents. In true maternal fashion, her mother chose to pack the AirPods in a traditional Indian lunchbox, or ‘dabba,’ creating a whimsical scenario. “Forgot my AirPods at home today and asked mum to send them safely with a delivery guy without him knowing what it is, and she packed it in a dabba! IN A DABBA?!!” Batra humorously noted in her post.

Clever Packing

Accompanying the post were pictures showing the steel dabba carefully wrapped in polythene, demonstrating her mother’s resourcefulness. The second photo revealed a multi-layered packaging, with additional polythene concealing the AirPods in a highly secure, three-tier arrangement.

Internet’s Reaction

The post quickly went viral, with users praising the mother’s protective instincts. One user commented, “Mums always have a unique way of keeping our things safe! Love this!” Others shared their own similar stories, with one person recalling, “My mum once sent my phone wrapped in a towel to disguise it!” Another user humorously noted, “This is why we need our mothers—who else would think of such creative solutions?”

Many praised the ingenuity behind the packing, with one user stating, “That’s next-level thinking. Dabba security is real!”

The post not only amused many but also highlighted the enduring love and creativity of mothers everywhere.
