The drudgery of paperwork and the anxiety of a pending medical procedure have kept me preoccupied these past few weeks. Recalling the shoot of the iconic 1980s hit ‘Samundar Mein Naha Ke’ with megastar Amitabh Bachchan, she recalled vivid experiences from the balmy Goa shoot that was a part of Ramesh Behl’s movie Pukar.

Sizzling Summer Memory of Zeenat Aman

In a frank Instagram post, Zeenat Aman started, “Uff… I’ll be frank. It’s a gratuitous post induced by the summer. It’s simply so damn hot! The weather, that is. Although I shan’t be too coy to admit Mr Bachchan and I getting all romantic to those salted lines are pretty sizzling as well.”

Zeenat showed her fans the way back to the early 80s when Goa was “quiet, idyllic, and unpeopled.” She disclosed, “Director-producer Ramesh Behl’s Pukar was a blast to shoot. Its anti-colonial underpinning, excellent cast, and catchy songs were what drew me to the script.”

The music of Samundar Mein Naha Ke was filmed on an otherwise deserted beach, and Aman describes it as a laid-back shoot — at least for her. “I didn’t have any lip-syncing to do, nor much choreography to learn,” she wrote.

Shooting in a White Outfit and Surviving the Waves

The brief for Zeenat’s appearance in the song was simple. “The brief was as basic as they come – look pretty! So there I was in a titillating white outfit, with a bit of midriff on display, rolling around in the surf, while Mr Bachchan pranced around me like an ardent bird-of-paradise.”

Though the background was idyllic, the shoot wasn’t without its problems. Zeenat openly admitted to not knowing how to swim. “My otherwise seamless performance was hindered by one small fact – I can’t swim! I had to swallow a fair amount of nerves (and seawater) for those shots of me writhing in the swash!”

In spite of the bodily discomfort, she accepted the setting with dignity. “Despite taking a few tumbles in the waves and being left with sand in uncomfortable places, I thought I did a convincing job of being a jal pari (mermaid),” she went on.

Inviting her fans to share some joy this summer, Zeenat concluded, “Whether in romantic or platonic relationships, share this post with anyone who deserves a beachside getaway this summer”

Amitabh Bachchan’s Return to the Set in Triumph

Zeenat also told a poignant piece of trivia. “P.S.: Here’s another tidbit for you. This was Mr Bachchan’s first shoot after the life-threatening accident he suffered on the sets of Coolie in 1982. Bachchan mania was well-established in the country by then, and the nation practically held its breath till he was in the clear.”

She brought out the relevance of that day: “So as you can imagine, the atmosphere on set was particularly buoyant during the making of this film.”

After sharing a cute picture of her pet dog, veteran actress Zeenat Aman penned a note revealing the interesting story behind the name of her pet and also revealed what names ‘Dev Saab’ (Dev Anand) used to call her.

Zeenat on Wednesday took to Instagram and shared a picture of herself in an all-white outfit along with a long note.

The note read, “Childhood pet names can be sticky things. As a little girl, I was the apple of my father’s eye, and he used to lovingly call me Babusha. A name that emerged as a go-between Babushka and Babugosha. He had quite the sense of humour because Babushka, which refers to an old Russian lady, and Babugosha, which refers to a pear, are hardly apt monikers for one’s daughter!”

“My childhood friends, many of whose parents would socialise with my own, were quick to pick up on this nickname. In their mouths, Babusha evolved into Babs, which is how my earliest friends still know me,” the actor continued.

She also revealed what late actor Dev Anand used to call her, Zeenat added, “Later of course, Dev Saab started to refer to me as ‘Zeenie’, and then the media concocted ‘Zeenie baby’. Both of which stuck. Now that I’m too old for younger people on set to refer to me as either of those, I’m also called ZA or Zee. “Home names” are such a wonderful sign of love and intimacy. I took a leaf out of my father’s book, and both my boys received pet names soon after their birth. The older is Azaanchu, and the younger Zanuski. On the occasion of Legendary actor Dev Anand’s 100th birth anniversary today, Zeenat Aman took to her official Instagram handle and penned a heartfelt note along with throwback pictures. She shared two pictures from her iconic Dum Maaro Dum song from the film Hare Krishna Hare Ram (1971) and Heera Panna (1973) and penned a heartfelt note along with it. She wrote, “Celebrating 100 years of Dev saab. Stylish, suave, and prolific, he was a dynamo beyond compare. And what generosity of talent! He sparked careers (mine included), brought together creative heads, and made films that resonated across generations. It gladdens my heart to see his legacy honoured an entire century since his birth. In recent days, I’ve been overwhelmed with requests for comments about him but there is little to add to what I’ve already said.”

Further, she wrote, “Though, I posted a three-part series about him just a few weeks ago, I can’t resist the nostalgia of these two frames from our earliest films together. They will be instantly recognisable to my older followers, but I’m not so sure about you younger lot!”

Veteran actress Zeenat Aman doles out some dating advice to young people saying, ‘wait to know each other’. In a recent conversation on the show Swipe Ride, she gave some serious dating advice to the young generation. She said, “I am really sorry to have to say this but I think young people should just hold on to their physical selves. Don’t jump into the bed with the guy right away. Wait to know each other. You yourself are very precious. Don’t fritter it away, don’t throw it away.”

She also elaborated on the need for women to be financially independent. Zeenat mentioned, “If a man is ever intimidated by that, show him the door. One thing I would advise young women to try to do is get financially independent and invest in themselves.”

Veteran actress Zeenat Aman walked down memory lane as Norwegian Govt. issued stamps honoring her contribution to Indian cinema. Sharing an interesting story of using these stamps, the senior actress penned a long note alongside the post which reads, “I was thrilled by this novel gesture of appreciation, but wasn’t sure whether the stamps would actually work. So the very next morning, I bought a ream of postcards, wrote out messages to my friends, slapped a ‘Zeenat Aman’ stamp onto each, crossed my fingers, and dropped the cards into a postbox.”

She continues, “some weeks later, when I was back in Bombay, I began to receive texts and calls from my friends. All of whom were exclaiming with delight, having received my postcards in the mail!”

The senior actress wrote as a concluding note, “I suppose a limited number of these stamps were released and that they are out of print now. I’ve kept my few remaining sheets carefully though, since I really did feel honoured by this gesture.”

Zeenat Aman Talk About Being Targeted By Tabloids

Veteran actress Zeenat Aman recently took to Instagram to talk about the times when tabloids would publish fake stories about her. The actress wrote, “If the headlines were to be believed, in 1979 I had cursed myself, in 1982 I was being picked on, in 1984 I was out of sync, in 1985 I was marching towards self-destruction, and in 1998 I was shattered!”

The actress then said that she initially subscribed to these magazines, but opted out after “vicious” headline. Zeenat said that the stories were mostly full of lies. When they were right, it was a breach of privacy. In one instance, she confronted a magazine editor who kept giving her excuses and did not apologize. Eventually, these things took their toll on her and she went through bouts of anxiety and grief

Zeenat concluded the post by writing, “All this is just to say – people will always find a reason to talk, and so it’s probably best not to allow their opinion or perception to define your life. You can do that for yourself.”
