Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes Joint-Fastest Indian to Reach 2,000 Test Runs Milestone

July 4, 2025, 11:55 pm

At Edgbaston on Friday, the red-ball rise of 23-year-old Yashasvi Jaiswal continued as he became the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs. He achieved the milestone in his 40th innings, equalling the record held by Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Follows in Tendulkar’s Footsteps

Jaiswal mentioned the milestone when he scored his 10th run for India’s second innings on Day 3 of the second Test against England. He was also the second-youngest Indian to achieve the feat at 23 years and 188 days old – Sachin Tendulkar at 20 years, 330 days remains the only younger player to have achieved this.

The milestone arrived on the heels of another elegant knock. In the first innings, Jaiswal had scored a mature 87, displaying maturity beyond his years. He rode out the initial movement, stitched together important partnerships – 72 with Karun Nair and 54 with Shubman Gill and played with thought-out aggression before becoming the victim of Ben Stokes.

Fewest innings to 2,000 Test runs (India)

40 innings – Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, Yashasvi Jaiswal
43 innings – Vijay Hazare, Gautam Gambhir
44 innings – Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar
45 innings – Sourav Ganguly
46 innings – Cheteshwar Pujara

Yashasvi Jaiswal Crosses 4,000 First-Class Runs

Jaiswal also went past 4,000 first-class runs in the knock, achieving the milestone in his 40th match at a rate of almost 59. His First-Class score consists of 14 tons and 14 half-centuries – a testimony to his desire for big scores.

Since his Test debut in 2023 with a scintillating 171 in Roseau, the left-handed batsman has blossomed into one of India’s most dependable hitters. He was India’s top performer in the home series against England at the start of the year, making 712 runs at 89.00 – the second-highest by an Indian in a bilateral Test series.

Siraj and Akash Deep Rock England Despite Record Stand

While that was on, Mohammed Siraj gave 6 for 70, and Akash Deep impressed with 4 for 88, as India dismissed England for 407 in their first innings – leading by 180 runs. England had threatened to reduce the deficit with a record 303-run partnership between Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184 not out), but early blows by Siraj – including the ones of Joe Root (22) and Ben Stokes (0) – dented England’s top order. Akash Deep snapped the key partnership later by removing Brook in the post-tea session.

With Jaiswal continuing to churn out milestones and pace attack functioning under pressure, India will carry a lot of positives to the last two days at Edgbaston.

‘He’s Had Just Two Bad Games’: R Sridhar Backs Jaiswal After Headingley Drops

June 29, 2025, 11:39 am

Former India fielding coach R Sridhar has spoken in support of Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has faced harsh criticism for his poor fielding during the first Test against England at Headingley, Leeds. Jaiswal had started the match impressively. On his first tour of England, he hit a superb century on Day 1 alongside captain Shubman Gill, helping India reach a strong total of 359/3 by stumps. However, the momentum didn’t last.

Fielding Mistakes Shifted the Game

After a good start with the bat, Jaiswal struggled in the field. He was dismissed cheaply in the second innings and then dropped four catches during the remaining days of the match. One of those drops gave a crucial life to Ben Duckett, who was batting during England’s chase of a 371-run target.

Along with batting collapses and average bowling from others apart from Jasprit Bumrah, India’s fielding errors cost them dearly. England went on to win the match by five wickets and took a 1-0 lead in the five-Test series.

Sridhar Says Conditions Were Tough in Leeds

After India’s loss, R Sridhar defended the young opener. Speaking to Sportstar, he said that tough weather conditions at Headingley played a major role in Jaiswal’s mistakes. “He’s actually an excellent gully fielder. Make no mistake,” Sridhar said.

“He’s had just two bad games — one in Melbourne, one here in Leeds. Otherwise, he’s been exceptional. The catches he took against Bangladesh in Kanpur were outstanding.”

Sridhar also noted that it’s unfair to judge players too harshly from afar. “It’s easy to sit in the commentary box and criticise, but these are challenging conditions, and for many of them, it’s their first experience of this environment,” he added.

Others Also Missed Chances

Though Jaiswal drew the most attention, he wasn’t the only one who dropped catches. On Day 2, even top fielder Ravindra Jadeja missed a catch at backward point, and later, wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant also let a chance go.

Moreover, England’s fielders were not flawless either. Ben Duckett and Harry Brook dropped catches in India’s second innings, giving reprieves to Sai Sudharsan and KL Rahul, who went on to score a century.

Ground Fielding Still a Concern, Says Sridhar

While Sridhar defended the missed catches, he was critical of India’s ground fielding. He felt that was an area players could control more easily. “The standard of ground fielding which is exhibited is not acceptable,” Sridhar stated.

“Unlike catching, ground fielding is something which is totally in your control. You should know which ball to put your body behind, which ball to attack, which ball to play safe.”

India Eyes a Comeback at Edgbaston

India will now look to bounce back in the second Test, which starts on 2 July at Edgbaston, Birmingham. With Shubman Gill leading the side, the team will aim to level the series and regain momentum.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Dances for English Fans After Dropping Four Catches – Watch

June 25, 2025, 12:46 pm

Yashasvi Jaiswal began the Headingley Test on a positive note by scoring a memorable debut century in England, but by Day 5 end, fan mood had sharply turned against him. Although he scored a calm 101 off 159 balls in India’s first innings, Jaiswal’s fielding performance overshadowed his batting excellence.

India Drops Eight Catches, Jaiswal Misses Four

India’s hapless fielding cost them, and the team let go of as many as eight catches over five days. Jasprit Bumrah, who bore the brunt of the bowling, had a five-wicket haul in England’s first innings but was clearly irked with the constant mistakes on the field.

Four of those drops came off the hands of Jaiswal, adding to India’s bowlers’ woes and inviting stinging criticism from the commentators and the fans alike.

Jaiswal’s Dance Enrages Fans Despite Defeat

To add insult to injury, Jaiswal infuriated fans by celebrating with a dance in front of the English spectators during Day 5, even as India approached a heavy defeat. His celebration in mid-field was grating for Indian fans already vexed at his fielding mistakes.

While social media hailed Jaiswal initially for his maiden ton, fans soon turned against him after the drops and what was seen as bad sportsmanship by many.

India Suffers Historic Defeat Despite Scoring Five Centuries

India’s Headingley excursion culminated in a five-wicket defeat to England, who chased down a record 371. Even as they fired with the bat—with centuries for Rishabh Pant (2), KL Rahul, Shubman Gill, and Jaiswal himself—India made unwanted history. They became the first Test team in history to lose a match even as five players hit centuries.

The second lower-order collapse of the match by the team sealed their fate, handing England a 1–0 advantage in the five-Test series.

India Seeks Comeback at Edgbaston

With defeat, India also starts their newest ICC World Test Championship mission on a losing note. With Shubman Gill as captain, the visitors now have a week to recharge and prepare for the second Test, which will be hosted at Edgbaston.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes First Ever to Score Debut Test Tons in England & Australia

June 21, 2025, 12:01 am

Yashasvi Jaiswal has accomplished what no other cricket batter could ever do. Viv Richards, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid. Jacques Kallis, Kumar Sangakkara, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers. No one. Batters from various generations, part of various teams but no one even got close to what Jaiswal accomplished. The India opener pounded his fifth Test ton in the series opener of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Headingley in Leeds on Friday.

Centuries in England and Australia on Debut for Yashasvi Jaiswal

This was Jaiswal’s fifth overall Test century, third against England and his first in England on his first try. Along the way, Jaiswal achieved the distinction of being the first visiting batsman ever to score centuries on his debut Test in England as well as Australia.

Indian cricketer Suryakumar Yadav, 23 years old, had scored 161 in his initial Test in Australia (Perth) in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. On Friday, he scored his first-ever Test century in England in his maiden try.

Significantly, Tendulkar scored a century on his first Test tours of England and Australia, but not in his initial Test there. Tendulkar scored his first century in England in his second Test (Manchester) and his first in Australia in his third try in Adelaide.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Reaching the Milestone with Flair

Following a couple of successive fours against Brydon Carse in the 49th over, Jaiswal reached his milestone on the final ball with a single. He did not try to conceal his joy. He jumped, screamed and screamed again to inform the capacity crowd as well as the viewers all over the world that he has now achieved centuries in Australia, the West Indies and England.

Jaiswal, who made a century against West Indies in his Test debut, compiled over 700 runs in the England series at home last year and the left-hander carried his rich run of form against the Three Lions even in their own den.

Jaiswal’s century had come at a time when there were genuine worries about how India’s new-generation batting lineup was going to fare under foreign conditions following the retirements of the legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Partnership Power with KL Rahul and Shubman Gill

Jaiswal started with authority in the morning session, teaming up with KL Rahul to present India with a good platform after Ben Stokes opted to bowl first. The duo took advantage of a poor England pace attack, creaming anything overpitched or heading down the pads. Their 91-run first-wicket stand set the tone before Rahul, who was on 42, edged Brydon Carse to Joe Root at slip, and debutant Sai Sudharsan got out for a duck soon after.

But Jaiswal rallied quickly and had a capable partner in new skipper Shubman Gill. They stitched together an unbeaten 123-run stand by tea, taking India to 215-2. Gill, eager and stylish, hit a quickest fifty in Tests worth 58* with big drives and pulls that complemented measured Jaiswal’s stroke-play.

Controlled Aggression and Discipline

Jaiswal displayed better discipline, particularly against deliveries in the channel outside off, where he had difficulty in the preceding matches. His century was off 144 balls and contained 16 boundaries, and had moments of sheer timing as well as resolute defence. He did get a bit crampy towards the end of the session occasionally but kept a cool head, getting his hundred with a neat single after consecutive boundaries from Carse.

The highly-rated left-arm bowler was bowled clean for 101 soon after Tea as England skipper Ben Stokes delivered a gem of a ball to beat his bat.

Sanjay Manjrekar’s Subtle Dig at Virat Kohli After Rahul, Jaiswal Shine

June 20, 2025, 9:22 pm

A Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin-less India made a good start in the current five-match series against England after India captain Rohit Sharma opted to bat first against Ben Stokes at Headingley, Leeds, in the first Test. India’s opening pair KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal combined caution with aggression to take England’s pace attack comprising Chris Woakes, Brydon Carse, Jos Tongue and Stokes on a tight leash. Watching from the commentary box, former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised the duo’s disciplined approach against testing conditions.

Manjrekar Praises Rahul and Jaiswal, Takes Subtle Dig at Kohli

Ex-India batsman Sanjay Manjrekar lauded Rahul and Jaiswal for their restraint in not poking at balls that were being delivered outside the off-stump. But in the process, he took a dig at ex-India skipper Virat Kohli, who had hung up his Test boots in May 2025, just days before the announcement of the squad for the England series.

Talking about Kohli, the right-handed batsman was dismissed on all eight instances against Australia in the same manner as he continued to pursue deliveries on the fourth and fifth stump lines. This chink has actually bothered Kohli throughout his career, and in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, players like Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Scott Boland actually capitalized upon it to the extent.

Rahul-Jaiswal Display Grit in Headingley Conditions

Talking about the Headingley Test, Rahul and Jaiswal were not looking nervous as the pair showed a clear game plan against England’s pace attack. Rahul and Jaiswal rode out the new ball during the first hour. But the pair were eager for loose balls.

“Deliveries outside the off stump, full, have been left alone. Jaiswal has done that. Anything that has been pitched right up into the stumps, he has driven. Anything that has been wide, he has looked to score on. KL Rahul has not touched one delivery or attempted to play one single delivery that’s been full, just outside off. Anything that has been wide, he has gone with a covered drive,” said Manjrekar while commentating in the first session on Day 1 of the first Test.

“So a lot of what you’re seeing is being created by these two batters, and my hat’s off to them. We know of a former batter who would have gone after that delivery and got himself into trouble. But not these two,” he added.

KL Rahul Falls After Strong Start; Sudharsan and Nair in Line-Up

It should be noted that Rahul’s dismissal finally arrived when he attempted to play a delivery that was well outside off. The right-hander attempted a massive booming drive and lost his wicket to Brydon Carse for 42.

India have given a debut to Sai Sudharsan in the first Test. The left-hander would bat at No.3. Karun Nair has also come back to the Test playing XI after eight years. He would bat at No.6.

Sanjay Manjrekar on India’s Young Batting Core

Sanjay Manjrekar added that this may be a young batting line-up, but all of the members selected in the playing XI possess good technique, which would benefit the team.

“That’s why I believe this is a young batting line-up. But when you look at their batting technique, they have the technique to survive in challenging test conditions. Sai Sudarshan as well. T20 Sensation will come and defend well. Down the order, Rishabh Pant has a good defence,” said Manjrekar.

“Jadeja as well. Karun Nair, I’m not sure how he’ll go. But these two have shown that, for openers, they’re just ideal with their defensive technique,” he added.

Earlier, England skipper Ben Stokes had won the toss and invited India to bat. The hosts are fielding with one spinner, Shoaib Bashir.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Shows Dissent After Umpire’s Decision in IND A vs ENG Lions Match | Watch

June 6, 2025, 8:25 pm

Yashasvi Jaiswal was displeased after he was dismissed for a low score for India A in the second unofficial Test against England Lions at the County Ground, Northampton, on Friday. Yashasvi Jaiswal had scored 17 off 25 deliveries with two boundaries before he was hit on the pads by an inswinger from Chris Woakes. The umpire did not hesitate to raise his finger, much to the frustration of the left-handed opening batter, who was quite inquisitive about the decision.

Controversial Moment Unfolds in the Seventh Over

The moment occurred in the seventh over of the match after England Lions skipper James Rew had won the toss and chosen to field on the overcast day. Jaiswal, attempting to flick a full ball, missed making contact with bat, but thought that the ball was doing a bit too much. The umpire, though, had different thoughts and raised his finger to signal his out, leaving Jaiswal stumped. The Indian opener stood firm, not wanting to walk, before ultimately signaling something to the umpire. After a sufficient 10 seconds, Jaiswal eventually began walking back to the pavilion. Barmy Army further fanned the flames when they put up the following.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul Likely to Open for India in Test Series

Yashasvi Jaiswal hit 24 and 64 in the first drawn unofficial Test at Canterbury. Expected to open the innings along with KL Rahul in the first Test at Headingley, Leeds, starting June 20, the Indian opening combination became all the more clear when the two batters began the proceedings. Rahul missed the first red-ball game, but after asking permission from the BCCI to be part of the second unofficial Test, took the flight to England and has struck three boundaries to show promise.

Final Preparations Before England Series Begin

The current match would be preceded by India’s lone instar-squad match, in which India A players will face the senior team before even preparing for the series opener. For Rahul and Jaiswal, the five-Test series could be a challenge in earnest as the team would be relying heavily on them since the recently retired retiring duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be missing.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rahul Bring Experience to Indian Line-up

Jaiswal was India’s highest run-scorer on India’s otherwise poor tour of Australia. One among the three Indian batters to have scored a century for India Kohli and Nitish Reddy being the other two Jaiswal topped the Indian scoring charts, with 391 runs, best score of 161 in Perth’s first Test, which India won comprehensively by 295 runs. Rahul, on his part, is no novice in touring England. This is his third England tour, having already visited us as part of India’s 2018 and 2021 series. In 2018, he made 299 runs, including a high of 149 at The Oval, while three years later, he improved it by scoring 315 runs from four Tests, which included a century at the historic Lord’s cricket ground.

Rahul’s Solid Technique Key to India’s Hopes

Similar to most of his Indian batting peers, Rahul found it hard to hit the straps completely Down Under, amassing 276 runs in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Yet, he did appear considerably more confident in comparison to the rest of the Indian batters, recording two half-centuries in the bargain. Now, opening the innings once again, much hopes will be placed on the experienced batter to raise India’s batting against a fairly inexperienced England pace attack.

Why Did Yashasvi Jaiswal Switch from Mumbai to Goa?

April 3, 2025, 12:03 pm

Following India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s move to shockingly switch from Mumbai to Goa due to personal reasons, the star batter revealed the reason behind his choice on Wednesday.

“It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,” Yashasvi Jaiswal told The Indian Express.

“Goa has thrown me a new opportunity and it has offered me a leadership role. My first goal will be to do well for India and whenever I’m not on national duty, I will be playing for Goa and try to make them go deep into the tournament. This was an (important) opportunity which came my way and I just took it.”

Mumbai Managements Potential Faultout with Yashasvi Jaiswal

However, a report by news agency PTI, has given an entirely different reason. “It is also believed Jaiswal’s decision to move to Goa could be due to his displeasure with the Mumbai team management,” the report said.

“In the contest against J&K last season, sources said Jaiswal had a rift with a senior member of the side in the second innings after the latter questioned his shot selection as Mumbai were battling to save the game. In reply, Jaiswal shot back at the senior questioning his shot in the first innings.”

Yashasvi Jaiswal sent a letter to the Mumbai Cricket Association indicating that he wanted to move from Mumbai to Goa. The Board promptly accepted the letter sent by Jaiswal for the same. Jaiswal’s dramatic switch will have the left-handed 23-year-old play for Goa from the 2025-26 season. Although the captaincy decision is uncertain it seems highly likely that he would be contender.

“Yes, it is surprising. He must have thought of something to make such a move. He has requested us to relieve him and we have accepted his request,” a senior MCA official said.

From Hardships to Cricketing Stardom

While Jaiswal catapulted himself up the ranks in Mumbai cricket to become one of the brightest batsmen in the nation. Who rightfully got a place in the national team, it wasn’t all easy going for the young man. Having shifted from his native Bhadohi in Uttar Pradesh at the tender age of 12 to chase his cricketing ambition.

Jaiswal experienced a series of tribulations. He used to spend nights sleeping in a tent before he was noticed by coach Jwala Singh. Afterwhich he took him under his wing and nurtured his game. In September 2022, Jaiswal was dismissed off the field by West Zone captain Ajinkya Rahane in the final of the Duleep Trophy for disciplinary reasons.

Jaiswal had hit a double century 265 off 323 balls with 30 fours and four sixes in the second innings of the match. But to him sledging a South Zone batsman Ravi Teja he was sent off the field. Standing close to the batter, Jaiswal was said to have hurled verbal volleys at Teja. During the 57th over, one of the umpires on the field had a word with Jaiswal regarding his sledging. After this incident Rahane had a word with his teammate who seemed agitated before he left the field.

“He wants to play for us and we welcome him. He will be playing for us from the next season,” Goa Cricket Association’s secretary Shamba Desai told PTI talking about Jaiswal’s move.

New Evidence from Australian Media Resolves Yashasvi Jaiswal-DRS Dispute

December 31, 2024, 1:26 pm

Australia clinched a dominant 2-1 advantage in the five-match Border Gavaskar Trophy following their victory over India by 184 runs in the fourth Test in Melbourne. Although it was a difficult defeat for India, Jasprit Bumrah’s impressive nine-wicket haul emerged as a significant individual achievement, and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s courageous 84 off 208 balls in the second innings indicated that Indian cricket possesses a promising future ahead.

Nonetheless, controversy erupted when Jaiswal was ruled out caught behind off Pat Cummins’ bowling. On-field umpire Joel Wilson first decided Jaiswal was not out after Australia’s appeal for a caught-behind dismissal. However, Australian captain Pat Cummins swiftly utilized the Decision Review System (DRS) to contest the on-field ruling.

The third umpire, Saikat Sharfuddoula, examined the available evidence. Even though the Snickometer indicated no spike as the ball went past Jaiswal’s bat and gloves, the television umpire depended on visual proof of a slight deflection from Jaiswal’s right index finger and an assumed change in the ball’s direction. On this basis, Sharfuddoula reversed the on-field ruling, declaring Jaiswal out.

The ruling incited considerable anger, with even cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar stating that if technology is accessible, it ought to be trusted. However, a new video released by the Australian media outlet 7 Cricket has sparked speculation that Jaiswal might have recognized he was out even before the DRS dispute unfolded. In the video, it captures Australia’s Travis Head talking with Jaiswal after the DRS was employed and then immediately celebrating.

Jaiswal’s childhood coach, Jwala Singh, who was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, believes that despite the apparent deflection, the batter should have received the benefit of the doubt. “I was at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, so it was challenging to comprehend what precisely happened. Initially, the on-field umpire ruled it not out, and then the decision went for review. From what I gathered later, Snicko didn’t reveal anything, and the ball seemed to go close to the bat.

“If we utilize technology, it should be infallible and properly applied. Based on the technology, it didn’t appear that the ball touched the bat. However, if it is an optical illusion or not clear on Snicko, I think this was somewhat of a contentious decision—no doubt about that. ”

Singh also recalled hearing Rohit Sharma suggest that Jaiswal had indeed made contact with the bat. “If that’s accurate, it introduces another layer of controversy to this ruling. In cricket, such decisions can be extremely intricate. But the doubt should always be granted to the batter, so I believe Yashasvi should have been provided the benefit of the doubt,” Singh conveyed to IANS.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Becomes India’s Third-Highest Run Scorer in a Year

December 31, 2024, 6:44 am

Yashasvi Jaiswal achieved another milestone on the final day of the fourth Test between India and Australia on Monday. The Indian opener became the third highest run scorer for India in a single calendar year.

Jaiswal showcased great composure as he scored 84 runs off 208 balls. His innings included eight boundaries, and he maintained a strike rate of 40.38. As a result of this knock, his total for 2024 climbed to an impressive 1,478 runs.

Joins an Elite Group

With this achievement, Jaiswal joined an elite list of Indian batters. At the top of this list is Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 1,562 runs in 2010. Sunil Gavaskar is close behind with 1,555 runs in 1979. Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag accomplished this feat twice, scoring 1,462 runs in 2008 and 1,422 runs in 2010.

A Controversial Dismissal

However, Jaiswal’s dismissal on the final day sparked controversy. The incident occurred in the 71st over when Pat Cummins bowled a short ball. Jaiswal attempted a pull shot, but the Australians appealed for a catch. Although the on-field umpire ruled him not out, Cummins immediately opted for a review.

The Turning Point

Upon review, the replays showed a deflection as the ball passed to wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Yet, the snickometer showed no spike, which indicated no sound from the ball hitting the glove. Despite this, third umpire Sharfuddoula deemed the visual evidence sufficient. Consequently, he overturned the on-field umpire’s decision and declared Jaiswal out.

Divided Reactions

Unsurprisingly, the decision triggered mixed reactions. While some believed the evidence was inconclusive, others agreed with the third umpire’s interpretation. The dismissal remained a major talking point as the match concluded.

Ricky Ponting Backs Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Controversial Dismissal, Says He Began To…”

December 30, 2024, 4:24 pm

The final hour of the fourth Test between India and Australia was marked by controversy, particularly regarding Yashasvi Jaiswal’s dismissal, which became a major talking point. Jaiswal was given out caught behind off Pat Cummins, but the on-field umpire initially ruled him not out. Australia reviewed the decision, and despite the snickometer showing no clear evidence of a touch, the third umpire believed the ball had deflected off Jaiswal’s gloves and overturned the decision.

Indian cricket experts were taken aback by this decision. Sunil Gavaskar suggested that the apparent deflection could have been an optical illusion. However, Ricky Ponting defended the third umpire’s call, stating that Jaiswal had already started walking when the review was called.

“They can make of it what they like. That clearly hit the glove. Jaiswal actually started to walk as soon as he knows they went upstairs, he started to take a couple of steps away. Snicko has proven to be correct. As far as I’m concerned, there’s no argument whatsoever,” the former Australian captain commented on air.

Jaiswal, visibly surprised by the decision, spoke with the on-field umpire. His dismissal left India struggling at 140/7. Six overs later, Akash Deep was dismissed for 7 off 17 balls, and just 14 balls after that, Scott Boland dismissed Jasprit Bumrah.

India had been set a target of 340 in the fourth innings. They began the chase reasonably well, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal playing 16.1 overs for 25 runs. However, both Rohit and KL Rahul were dismissed in the 17th over, and Virat Kohli’s continued struggles saw him make just 5 runs off 29 balls. Rishabh Pant fought on for 104 balls, scoring just 30 runs, but his wicket marked the beginning of India’s collapse as they were bowled out for 155.

‘If You Don’t Let Me Talk…’: Explosive Sanjay Manjrekar-Irfan Pathan Face-Off On Live TV | WATCH

December 27, 2024, 3:06 pm

Day 4 of the 4th Test between India and Australia saw a crucial 102-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli that revived India’s chances. However, the partnership ended in an unfortunate mix-up, leading to Jaiswal’s dismissal. The confusion over a risky single left fans and experts divided over who was at fault—Jaiswal for calling the run or Kohli for declining it.

Manjrekar vs Pathan: A Heated Post-Match Debate

During the post-day show on Star Sports, former cricketers Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan clashed over the incident. Manjrekar argued that Virat Kohli should have trusted Jaiswal’s call, as the latter was running to the danger end. “It was a schoolboy error from Kohli to look back and decide against the run,” Manjrekar asserted.

Pathan countered, suggesting that Kohli’s decision to decline the run was justified given the ball’s speed towards Pat Cummins. “A non-striker has the right to refuse a risky run if they feel it’s unsafe,” he said. The exchange became intense, with Manjrekar sarcastically suggesting that Pathan’s view should be added to coaching manuals.

Sanjay Manjrekar also linked Kohli’s subsequent dismissal to the guilt he might have felt after Jaiswal’s run-out, saying, “Kohli lost focus after the incident, which contributed to his wicket.”

The debate has since become a talking point among cricket fans, highlighting the emotional stakes and nuances of on-field decisions in high-pressure matches.

Day 5: Australia Sets India 275-Run Target After Declaring at 89/7

December 18, 2024, 10:35 am

India needs 275 runs to win the Brisbane Test, with a minimum of 54 overs remaining. Australia declared their second innings at 89/7 on Day 5. The superb bowling performances by Bumrah (3/18), Siraj (2/36), and Akash Deep (2/28) put Australia on the back foot in their second innings on Day 5.

As of the last reports, India was at 8/0 in the fourth innings at the tea break. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were at the crease.

India’s Response to Australia’s 445

India were all out for 260 in response to Australia’s 445. They resumed on Day 5 at 252 for nine and added just eight runs in 24 balls.

Bumrah and Deep Show Resilience

Jasprit Bumrah (10 not out off 38) and Akash Deep (31 off 44) put together a 47-run partnership off 78 balls for the final wicket. This stand helped India avoid the follow-on. However, Deep was stumped off Travis Head in the 79th over, leaving Australia with a 185-run first innings lead.

Key Moments in the Stand

Deep finished on 27, and Bumrah remained on 10. Their unbroken 39-run partnership had pushed India to 252 for nine, still 193 runs behind Australia’s total. This partnership nearly saved India from defeat, leaving Australia with limited time to take 10 wickets.

BGT 2024-25: India Shifts Focus to Fielding Ahead of Adelaide Test

December 4, 2024, 3:35 pm

Team India is now focusing on fielding as they prepare for the second Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. They lead the series 1-0 after a dominant performance in the first Test. The Adelaide Test will begin on December 6.

Recovering from the 2020 Adelaide Test

However, India is determined to move past the memory of their lowest-ever Test score of 36 runs in the 2020 Adelaide pink-ball Test. Back then, Pat Cummins (4/21) and Josh Hazlewood (5/8) destroyed India’s batting line-up, allowing Australia to easily chase a target of just 90 runs. Therefore, this time, India is intent on bouncing back and performing better.

Fielding Session for Team India

In preparation for the Test, BCCI shared a video of India’s fielding session. Key players like Harshit Rana, Prasidh Krishna, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli participated, with fielding coach T Dilip leading the session. Coach Dilip explained the drills: “We will start off having a team fielding in covers, mid-off, mid-on, and short mid-wicket. I’ll be hitting the ball to covers, and the mid-on fielder will back up and return the ball to Nuwan.”

BCCI Highlights Energy in Fielding Session

Additionally, BCCI’s social media post highlighted the intensity of the session: “Hitting the target. Reflex catching. Celebrations. Energy levels running high! Here’s a sneak peek into #TeamIndia’s high-octane fielding session with Fielding Coach T Dilip ahead of the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide.”

Bumrah, Kohli Shine as India Set Australia a Tough Target in Perth

November 25, 2024, 9:45 am

India maintained their strong position on Day 3 of the first Test in Perth against Australia, thanks to brilliant performances from Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah. Kohli’s century and Bumrah’s key wickets put India firmly in control as they sought to extend their lead.

Bumrah Strikes Late to Leave Australia Reeling

Jasprit Bumrah made a significant impact late on Day 3, taking two crucial wickets. He dismissed Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne, reducing Australia to 12/3 in their chase of 534 runs. Moreover, Mohammed Siraj removed Pat Cummins, further strengthening India’s grip on the match.

Kohli’s Century and India’s Declaration

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli returned to form in style, scoring his 30th Test century off 143 balls. With his century in the bag, India declared their second innings at 487/6, giving Australia a daunting target of 534 runs. Kohli’s knock included eight fours and two sixes, and it set the stage for India to take charge of the game.

Jaiswal Shines Before Dismissal

Earlier in the day, Yashasvi Jaiswal impressed with a knock of 161, after bringing up his 150 post-lunch. His performance helped India extend their lead to 405 runs. Alongside KL Rahul, who scored 77, Jaiswal formed a vital partnership. Rahul’s consistency in overseas conditions continues to be a highlight for India, and he will look to build on his strong start in the remaining matches.

India’s Comprehensive Lead and Australia’s Struggles

India’s first innings was a complete team effort, posting 150 runs and bowling Australia out for just 104. The pitch conditions favored seam bowling, and India capitalized on them, putting themselves in a commanding position in the series opener. Australia’s top order, however, struggled to handle the pressure from India’s bowlers.

Australia’s Tough Task Ahead

Looking ahead, Australia faces a tough challenge. With three wickets down and a large target in front of them, they will need a strong recovery. The pitch conditions are expected to worsen, making it difficult for their batters to make a comeback. Pat Cummins and his team will need a patient and resilient performance to get back into the game.

India’s Plan for Day 4

India’s strategy on Day 4 will be to build their lead further while minimizing risks. With a substantial lead in hand, they will aim to add runs quickly but carefully. Meanwhile, Bumrah and Siraj will look to exploit any cracks in the pitch and dismiss Australia’s remaining top order. India will be focused on dismissing Australia as soon as possible and pushing for victory in the first Test. Till the last reports, India needs 5 more wickets to win first test. Australia were at 93/5.

Key Highlights from Day 3

Bumrah’s two wickets leave Australia at 12/3, needing 522 more runs to win.
Kohli scores his 30th Test century, and India declares at 487/6, setting Australia a target of 534.
Yashasvi Jaiswal knock of 161, contributing to India’s commanding position.
Rahul scores 77, and the opening partnership with Jaiswal accumulates 201 runs.
Quick fire 38 from N.K. Reddy in 27 balls strengthening India’s lead to 533.

The moment of the day came very early in Day 2 when Bumrah dismissed Alex Carey with an absolutely stunning delivery. Bowling around the wicket, he swung the ball in before it moved away to hit the batsman on his gloves forcing him to edge it to Rishabh Pant behind the wickets. This wicket set off an unforgettable spell of bowling that sawAustralia’s lower order get dismantled.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Shines On Day 3

Day 3 saw the focus revolve around India‘s batting with the scintillating performance by Yashasvi Jaiswal. The young opener scored a well-crafted century, which anchored the innings for India and demonstrated his potential of handling pressure situations and scoring against one of the world’s best bowling attacks from Australia.

Tough Start For India

The Test began with India struggling after being asked to bat first. Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood wreak havoc on the Indian top–order by bundling the visitors out for 150 runs in their first innings. Though this was shaky, Bumrah’s exceptional bowling kept India in the game, and Jaiswal‘s century gave the team much-needed relief.

Memes Galore: Bumrah’s Heroics Light Up Social Media

Indian team was inspired by Bumrah’s performance, while social media also caught fire. Innumerable memes and posts could be seen flooding platforms as fans celebrated his fiery spell, overnight turning a cricketer into an internet sensation.

The Match Is Poised For A Thrilling Finish

At the end of a volatile day, the battle between two cricketing giants continues delicately poised. Bumrah‘s leadership has been beautifully complemented by his steely resilience from the other end by Jaiswal as India fights back again to set the stage for an epic conclusion to the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Jaiswal Shines with Century as India Tightens Grip in Perth

November 24, 2024, 9:47 am

India dominated Day 2 of the first Test against Australia, establishing a commanding position at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The dominance continued on Day 3, with Yashasvi Jaiswal completing his century.

On Day 2, Jasprit Bumrah’s five-wicket haul, combined with debutant Harshit Rana’s crucial dismissal, ended Australia’s innings before lunch. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul batted through two sessions, frustrating the hosts and laying the foundation for a significant lead.

Jaiswal’s Grit and Rahul’s Patience

Starting cautiously on a tricky pitch that saw 17 wickets fall on Day 1, Jaiswal and Rahul steadied India’s innings. They neutralized Australia’s new-ball attack with patience, ensuring no repeat of the first-innings collapse. Their calculated approach included smart running between the wickets and a focus on minimizing risks. Boundaries were scarce, but their determination paid off as they stitched together a 201-run partnership.

Jaiswal reached his century early on Day 3, marking his fourth Test ton and first in Australia. His innings showcased composure and flair, including playful interactions with Australian fielders. “The nervous nineties are always tricky,” Jaiswal remarked before the day’s play, but he crossed the milestone with ease, cementing his reputation as a rising star.

Meanwhile, Rahul’s composed 77 ended when Mitchell Starc broke through his defenses, delivering Australia a much-needed breakthrough.

India in Command

India resumed Day 3 at 172/0 and quickly extended their lead to 313 runs. India scored 267/1 till the last reports. With the pitch flattening out, the team aims to bat Australia out of the game. Devdutt Padikkal, replacing Rahul at No. 3, looked steady but cautious. Jaiswal, approaching 150, continues to lead the charge, eyeing a monumental score in his maiden Test Down Under.

Australia Struggles for Momentum

Australia’s bowlers toiled with little success. Mitchell Starc provided a spark by dismissing Rahul, but the aging ball and flat pitch offered limited assistance. The hosts must balance containing runs and breaking India’s rhythm, a tough challenge against an in-form batting lineup.

India’s Strategy for the Day

India’s batters will look to build a lead of over 350 before potentially declaring. Virat Kohli and other middle-order batters will aim to capitalize on the solid foundation laid by Jaiswal and Rahul. Meanwhile, the bowlers, led by Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, will be ready to target Australia’s top order later in the day.

Highlights from Day 3

Starc’s Impact: Starc dismissed KL Rahul for 77, ending a formidable 201-run stand.
Jaiswal’s Century: Jaiswal reached his fourth Test hundred off 205 balls, continuing his stellar form in 2024.
Commanding Lead: India’s lead now stands at 313, with plenty of batting depth still to come.
Stable Start: India’s openers played two wicketless sessions on Day 2, firmly establishing control.

Looking Ahead

India’s performance so far has been dominant, showcasing resilience after a challenging series against New Zealand. With a massive lead in sight, the visitors are poised to set a daunting target. Australia, on the other hand, must regroup quickly and find ways to mount a comeback in this crucial Test match.

Gavaskar Highlights Jaiswal’s Potential

Gavaskar praised Jaiswal’s fearless approach. He said Jaiswal creates problems for bowlers with his left-handed batting and shot-making ability.

“A left-hander who at the top of the order can create problems for the bowlers, whether they’re Australian, English, whatever, because he brings a completely different perspective,” he noted.

Gavaskar also admired Jaiswal’s confidence, especially against Mitchell Starc. “Some of the shots that he played off Mitchell Starc tell you the confidence that he has. Clearly, Yashasvi Jaiswal has the cricketing world at his feet,” Gavaskar added.

India’s Comeback After Collapse

India bounced back after getting bowled out for 150 in the first innings. The fast bowlers, led by stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah, dismantled Australia’s batting. Bumrah took five wickets, while debutant Harshit Rana impressed with his pace.

India’s strong bowling restricted Australia to just 104. By the end of Day 2, Jaiswal and Rahul ensured India had a solid lead.

Jaiswal’s hunger for runs and fearless batting earned him praise from Gavaskar. With his strong partnership with Rahul, he has strengthened India’s position in the match.

Jaiswal had posted a picture of himself exploring the streets of New York ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024, prompting Suryakumar’s witty comment: “Sambhaal ke. Garden me ghoomega tho pata hai na” (Be careful. You know what will happen if you roam in the garden).

This dialogue gained popularity during India’s Test series against England when Rohit was captured on the stump mic admonishing fielders.

Meanwhile, the Indian cricket team has commenced practice in New York ahead of the T20 World Cup. Vice-captain Hardik Pandya shared images from the practice session to signify his presence with the team, captioning it as “On national duty.”

Former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer suggests that Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal should open for India in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav following in the batting order. Jaffer praises Rohit’s ability to handle spin, advocating for him to bat at number four.

Dube’s ability to accelerate the scoring rate and change the momentum of the game quickly from the middle order positions him as a crucial player for India.

Shastri emphasized that Dube’s big-hitting style and high strike rate would be instrumental in India’s quest for posting imposing totals in the T20 World Cup, noting that his performances could be decisive in achieving scores of 190 or 200, crucial in major competitions.

On the fourth day of the 4th Test between India and England, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal began the day with a solid partnership, accumulating 42 runs in the initial eight overs. Unfortunately, Jaiswal was dismissed by Joe Root. Captain Rohit Sharma, however, reached his half-century, leading India’s pursuit of the 192-run target. England struck back by quickly sending Rohit and Rajat Patidar back to the pavilion. Subsequently, Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja steadied the innings, with Gill achieving a half-century. Despite losing Jadeja after lunch, India’s Dhruv Jurel joined Gill, and the duo built an unbeaten partnership of 72 runs, securing a five-wicket victory for India. This win propelled India to a 3-1 series lead, marking their 17th consecutive Test series win at home.

In the preceding day, India faced a challenging situation, requiring 152 runs with all 10 wickets intact. Dhruv Jurel’s impressive 90 runs off 149 balls played a pivotal role in India’s total of 307. In England’s second innings, a remarkable performance from Ravichandran Ashwin, who took a five-wicket haul, and Kuldeep Yadav, who secured four wickets, limited the visitors to 145. Chasing a target of 192, India ended Day 3 at 40 for no loss, with Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal displaying confidence on a pitch with significant spin.

Rohit Sharma praises centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal after MI’s win over RR

May 1, 2023, 4:30 pm

On Sunday, MI captain Rohit Sharma applauded rival batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. I was surprised to see the youngest’s marvellous performance against his own team, as per Rohit’s statement.

Mumbai Indians chased down the target of 213 runs against RR to clinch the match by 6 wickets in a thrilling 1000th IPL game at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Jaiswal, who sent Cameron Green to the stands on the fourth ball of the first over, was unquestionably the star of the evening. His innings exuded quality as he found space when there was none and scored his first IPL century with several powerful strokes. His innings, which included 16 boundaries and 8 maximums, helped his team to a respectable total.

Yashasvi Jaiswal lit up the Wankhede Stadium with a whirlwind 124 off 62 balls to power RR to a daunting 212/7.

It was a splendid innings on a special occasion, as Mumbai was treated to a run-fest at the brimmed Wankhede Stadium.

“I watched Jaiswal last year; he’s taken it to the next level. I asked him, “Where did you get the power from?” He said he’s been going to the gym; that’s good for him, India, and RR,” Rohit said at the post-match presentation.

Rohit expressed his satisfaction with the team’s approach to pursuing the high total.
“It was encouraging to see how we tracked the target down. We nearly beat them in the previous game as well, so we positioned ourselves to pursue them. So it was enjoyable. Tim (David) is extremely talented and powerful. That is beneficial and helpful in the long run, Rohit continued.
