Haryana CM Nayab Saini Drinks Yamuna Water, Refutes Kejriwal’s ‘Poisoning’ Claim | WATCH

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Wednesday drank from the Yamuna River at Palla village in Delhi after AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP of poisoning it. Saini called the accusations made by Kejriwal as ‘politically motivated and to instill fear into the public psyche’.

“An unfortunate statement by Arvind Kejriwal was given to create fear in the minds of people for his political benefits. Today, I have come here to the banks of River Yamuna and took a sip of water from Yamuna. He said that the BJP Govt of Haryana has poisoned the Yamuna River. He spoke about mass genocide. The water resource authority took samples from here and no poison was found in the water. Arvind Kejriwal has lied all his life,” Saini remarked, according to ANI.

The controversy began when Kejriwal accused the BJP-led Haryana government of dumping industrial waste into the Yamuna River and even claimed that they were ‘mixing poison’. Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi also alleged that the BJP was ‘deliberately disrupting’ Delhi’s water supply as part of a political strategy ahead of the February 5 Assembly elections.

In view of this, Haryana’s Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goel declared that the state government would file a case against Kejriwal over his statement, terming it irresponsible and panic-inducing. “Kejriwal made an irresponsible statement with the intent of spreading panic among the people of Delhi and Haryana. His office going to get a case registered against him in Sonipat CJM Court under the sections of Disaster Management Act, 2(D) and 54,” Goel said.

Ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, the Yamuna river has become a battleground for an escalating war of words between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Haryana and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi. As per the reports the BJP-led Haryana government is preparing to file a defamation case against AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal after he accused them of “mixing poison” into the Yamuna river water. The BJP also planning to approach the Election Commission of India (ECI) with a formal complaint against Kejriwal. On the other hand, Kejriwal on Tuesday stood by his statement about “poison in Yamuna” and said he was not afraid of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini’s threat of legal action. “Saini ji, don’t play politics over water. Stop trying to scare us with talk of filing a case. I won’t let the people of Delhi suffer. Tell your party to stop this dirty politics,” Kejriwal said.

The controversy erupted after Kejriwal, joined by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleged that the Haryana BJP government was polluting the Yamuna, risking a potential health crisis in Delhi. Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and several BJP MPs strongly refuted these allegations, calling them baseless. “It is their nature to accuse and run away,” Saini remarked during an event in Chandigarh.
Haryana MP Dharambir Singh also rejected Kejriwal’s claims during a press conference, stating, “Haryana provides Delhi with 10,000 cusecs of drinking water through the Western Yamuna Canal, which is treated before distribution. The 300 cusecs we release into the Yamuna is to ensure the river does not dry up.” Singh added that Haryana continues to share its water despite Punjab’s refusal to contribute, highlighting that Delhi often returns polluted water to Haryana.

Several Haryana leaders, including MP Kiran Choudhary, argued that the water Haryana provides is safe and tested but becomes polluted as it flows through Delhi. She cited sewage, plastics, and contaminants from Delhi’s water system as major contributors to the pollution. Haryana minister Anil Vij hit back at Kejriwal, stating, “For 10 years, you have been in power. If Yamuna is dirty, why haven’t you cleaned it? If you claim pollution is coming from Haryana, form an international expert team to check the water quality at Sonipat and Okhla. The truth will come out.”

Vij further accused Kejriwal of deflecting responsibility, adding that Delhi’s failure to clean the river over the years cannot be blamed on neighboring states. AAP leaders, including Haryana’s Anurag Danda, have doubled down on their allegations. Danda recently visited Panipat, capturing videos of industrial drains releasing waste into the Yamuna. This, he claimed, was proof of Haryana’s role in polluting the river.

In previous disputes, AAP has consistently blamed Haryana for water-related issues. In July 2023, during Delhi’s floods, the AAP government accused Haryana of deliberately releasing excess water from the Hathnikund Barrage to flood the capital. Similarly, in June 2024, then Delhi water minister Atishi alleged a conspiracy by Haryana to deny Delhi its rightful share of Yamuna water, leading her to stage a hunger strike.

The Yamuna water-sharing dispute has a long history, rooted in a 1994 memorandum of understanding (MoU) between five states, including Haryana and Delhi. The MoU governs water allocation through the Western Yamuna Canal in Haryana and the Eastern Yamuna Canal in Uttar Pradesh. Despite this agreement, political tensions over water shortages and pollution have repeatedly flared.

As the Yamuna River comes to the fore in Delhi assembly election campaigns in 2025, the Bharatiya Janata Party struck a sharp and creative stroke against former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday.

BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency Parvesh Verma went for a boat ride on the Yamuna, complete with party colleagues and a life-size cut-out of Kejriwal. The cut-out showed Kejriwal holding his ear in shame, with the slogan: “Main fail ho gaya, mujhe vote mat dena, 2025 tak main Yamuna saaf nai kar paya” (I am a failure, don’t vote for me as I failed to clean the Yamuna by 2025). Verma kept submerging the cut-out in the river, creating a public spectacle for the media.

Speaking to reporters, Verma declared, “We can clean all the water of Yamuna Maaiya. Cleaning it is not rocket science. All the silt should be removed by machines, sewerage treatment plants should be built, and water treatment plants should be built. Just like our Prime Minister Modi Ji built the Sabarmati Riverfront, the Yamuna Riverfront can be built in the same way. 11 years is a very long time.”

Yamuna Pollution Becomes a Hot Election Topic

The long-standing issue of Yamuna River pollution has taken center stage in Delhi’s political landscape, becoming a rallying point for voters frustrated with health risks and environmental concerns. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Arvind Kejriwal, has faced criticism for failing to deliver on its promise to clean the river by 2025. Opposition parties, including the BJP, have capitalized on this frustration.

The political war of words got a respite, though briefly, when the Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav came out in Kejriwal’s defense after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took up the AAP leader over Yamuna pollution. Yadav, taking a jibe at Adityanath, questioned whether he would dare drink water from the Yamuna in Mathura.

The issue was also commented on by the Congress, with Kalkaji Assembly candidate Alka Lamba saying that both BJP and AAP had reduced Yamuna pollution to a mere political issue. She said, “Rivers Yamuna and Ganga are nothing more than election issues for them.If people give us a chance, we will show our work (Yamuna cleaning), we will not blame the people of Purvanchal for the condition of Yamuna like Arvind Kejriwal did.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj, devotees celebrated Bhai Dooj by offering prayers and taking a holy dip in the Yamuna River. “Today on Bhai Dooj, we bathed in the Yamuna and prayed for our brother’s long life,” shared Mamta, a local resident.

Bhai Dooj is a festival celebrating the love between brothers and sisters, where sisters pray for their brothers’ happiness and longevity, symbolized by applying a ‘Tika’ on their foreheads. The day is marked by the exchange of gifts and sweets, strengthening sibling bonds.

Known by different names across India, Bhai Dooj is called Bhau Bij or Bhai Beej in North India, Bhai Tika in Maharashtra, and Bhai Phonta in Bengal. In Karnataka and Telangana, it is celebrated as Yama Dwitiya, rooted in the story of Goddess Yamuna welcoming her brother Yamraj to her home on this day. Sisters follow rituals like applying tilak, fasting, and performing puja, while brothers offer gifts and pledge protection in return.

Although similar to Raksha Bandhan, Bhai Dooj differs in that sisters do not tie a Rakhi. This celebration of sibling love and protection is mentioned in many Hindu scriptures, with tales associated with Lord Krishna and Yamraj.

Severe Pollution in the Yamuna River

The Yamuna River has reported unprecedented levels of fecal contamination in September, highlighting the severe issue of untreated sewage and pollution. A report from the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) indicated that fecal levels soared to an alarming 4,900,000 Most Probable Number (MPN) per 100 ml. This figure is 1,959 times greater than the standard limit of 2,500 units and 9,800 times above the ideal limit of 500 units. This represents the highest pollution level in the river since February 2022 when fecal coliform levels at the Agra Canal hit 6,300,000 units. The increase in fecal levels coincides with specific stretches of the river showing significant flooding, a clear sign of pollution caused by a mix of contaminants like surfactants and phosphates.

AQI Update

In the Anand Vihar area, the AQI fell to 339, categorizing it as ‘very poor’ on Friday. The AQI in the India Gate area and its surroundings was recorded at 270, classified as ‘poor.’ In Dwarka, Sector 8, the AQI reached 325, also placing it in the ‘very poor’ category. Vivek Vihar similarly reported a rise in AQI to 324, firmly in the ‘very poor’ classification. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, an AQI categorized as ‘Poor’ can lead to breathing difficulties for most individuals upon prolonged exposure, while ‘Very Poor’ levels can cause respiratory issues with extended exposure.

Implementation of GRAP Stage 1

On Tuesday, the first stage of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) was enacted in the national capital, as air quality persisted in the ‘poor’ category for the third consecutive day.

GRAP is structured into four stages based on air quality:

Stage I – ‘Poor’ (AQI 201-300)
Stage II – ‘Very Poor’ (AQI 301-400)
Stage III – ‘Severe’ (AQI 401-450)
Stage IV – ‘Severe Plus’ (AQI >450).

The objectives of GRAP Stage 1 are to reduce pollution by controlling dust at construction sites, improving waste management, and ensuring regular road cleaning. It includes stringent checks on polluting vehicles, enhanced traffic management, and emission controls for industries, power plants, and brick kilns. Additionally, it prohibits the open burning of waste, limits diesel generator usage, and bans the use of coal or firewood in eateries.

Magh Purnima: Devotees Take Holy Dip in UP

On Saturday morning, devotees took a holy dip at Sangam in Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Magh Purnima, the full moon night of the Magha month in the Hindu calendar.
Devotees also prayed at the Sangam, a confluence of three rivers: the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati.

Kalpavas, which lasts one month starting with Paush Purnima, also ends today.
Kalpavas is a spiritual ritual in which the Kalpavasi sleeps on the ground on the sand of Sangam for a month, eats just once a day, practices austerity, and chants the name of the Almighty.

Speaking on ANI at Sangam in Uttar Pradesh, Prabhadevi, a devotee from Mirzapur district said, “I came here for a month-long Kalpvas, and today, on the day of Purnima, my spiritual journey is complete. I’ve been here since January 24th. Yesterday, I also performed Sija Daan, and tomorrow I will return home. I sought forgiveness from Mother Ganga for all my mistakes.”

Another devotee, Dinesh Mishra, complimented Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on the superb arrangements.

“Being here on the auspicious day of Magh Purnima at Sangam is incredibly fortunate. Yogi Ji has arranged everything so well that there are no issues, and we are enjoying excellent facilities. It feels like we are in heaven,” Dinesh Mishra said.

Earlier, thousands of devotees took a holy dip at Sangam on the occasion of Basant Panchami, the fourth bathing festival of Uttar Pradesh’s ongoing ‘Magh Mela’.
Basant Panchami, also known as Vasant Panchami, Shri Panchami, and Saraswati Panchami, is a Hindu festival observed on the first day of spring, which is the fifth day of the month of Magha. It also marks the beginning of Holi preparations, which occur forty days after the feast. Maa Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning, music, and the arts, is celebrated during the festival.

According to legend, Kalidasa, upset about his wife’s abandonment, intended to commit suicide by drowning in a river. He was ready to do so when the goddess Saraswati appeared in the water and requested Kalidasa to take a bath there. His life changed after that when he gained insight and rose to prominence as a poet.

Another legend is based on the Hindu god of love, Kama, and according to folklore, Kamadeva once interrupted Lord Shiva’s meditation following the loss of his wife Sati. Seers contacted Kama to awaken Shiva from his concentration so that he might reconnect with the world and recognize Maa Parvati’s efforts on his behalf.

Delhi: Yamuna continues to flow above the danger mark at 205.45 meters

At 7 am on Tuesday, the Yamuna River in Delhi was still overflowing, with a water level of 205.45 meters. The Yamuna River’s danger mark is located at 205.33 meters. Yamuna’s water level was 206.56 meters on Monday.

The administration issued warnings on Sunday to leave low-lying areas close to the floodplains. Once again, the rise in water level raised worries about a potential flood situation in the nation’s capital and surrounding areas.

The river water level had been hovering around the danger mark of 205.33 metres for the last few days after reaching an all-time high of 208.66 metres on July 13.
This surge in Yamuna’s water level is primarily due to the discharge of water from the Hathnikund Barrage caused by heavy rainfall in some regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

After July 13, the Yamuna had been receding gradually after reaching an all-time high of 208.66 meters but there have been marginal fluctuations in the water level over the last two-three days. The water level dropped below the danger mark at 8 pm on July 18 after flowing above the threshold for eight days.
Due to the increase in the water level of the river, several places in Delhi grappled with water-logging and flood-like situations.

Meanwhile, Delhi Jal Board Vice-Chairman Saurabh Bhardwaj on Sunday inspected the Wazirabad Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and said that the Delhi government has made embankments and reinforcement at vulnerable spots to prevent flood water entering the water treatment plants.

On Sunday, Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena and asked him about the water level in the national capital’s Yamuna River.

Delhi: Yamuna flows above danger mark at 206.56m

In the nation’s capital, the Yamuna river flowed above the danger threshold of 205.33 meters. At 7:00 a.m. on Monday, it was 206.56 meters. After rain pelted parts of the city on Sunday evening, the Yamuna was flowing at 206.44 meters at 10:00. The administration issued warnings on Sunday to leave the low-lying areas.

Due to the rise of the water level of Yamuna to 206.4 metres, the working of the old Yamuna bridge (Old Loha Pul) was suspended from 2215 hrs Sunday, the Northern Railway said. The route between Delhi and Shahdara will be suspended, it added.
The rise in water level yet again sparked concerns about the flood-like situation in the national capital and adjoining regions.

Following an all-time high of 208.66 meters on July 13, the river’s water level had been hovering around the danger mark of 205.33 meters for the past few days. 205.02 meters at 10 p.m. on Saturday rose to 205.96 meters at 9 a.m. on Sunday before rising to 206.42 meters at 9 p.m., according to data from the Central Water Commission (CWC).

In addition, the Yamuna tributary Hindon River in Noida experienced a rise in water level on Saturday. There were a number of low-lying houses that were submerged. The Yamuna had been gradually receding after reaching an all-time high of 208.66 meters on July 13; however, over the previous two to three days, there had been minor fluctuations in the water level. At 8 p.m. on July 18, the water level, which had been above the danger line for eight days, fell below it. On July 10, at 5 o’clock, the river crossed the danger line, causing significant flooding in the nation’s capital.

Delhi: Yamuna drops below danger mark, water level currently at 205.25 mt

On Friday morning, the water level at the Yamuna River in the capital city fell below the danger level. According to the Central Water Commission’s most recent report, the Yamuna’s water level on Friday morning at the Old Railway Bridge was measured at 205.25 meters.

The level recorded on Friday marked a further decrease from 205.35 metres 7 pm on Tuesday.
A “slight rise” was recorded in the river’s water level on Monday on account of fresh rainfall in neighbouring Haryana.
The danger mark in the Yamuna is at 205.33 metres. The river breached the danger mark 5 pm on July 10, leading to extensive flooding of the national capital.
Later, following an noticeable improvement in the waterlogging situation, the Delhi government lifted the ban on entry of heavy vehicles into the national capital.
“Considering the improvement of the flood situation and descending water level of Yamuna River, it has been decided by the competent authorities to withdraw all the restrictions imposed as per the orders on July 13th and 17th with effect from July 19th,” read an official statement.

Earlier on July 16, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal visited a flood relief camp in Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya at Mori Gate in north Delhi.
During his visit to the relief camp where residents from the flooded Yamuna Bazar area had taken shelter, the CM was accompanied by Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi.

“Due to the rise in the water level of Yamuna River, many low-lying areas were affected and have been facing waterlogging for the past few days. So residents of affected areas were moved to various relief camps across the capital. Six districts in the city have been affected and the Delhi government has set up relief camps at several places in these six districts. Relief camps were set up in nearby schools and Dharamshalas and facilities for drinking water and toilets were ensured.

Residents from the Yamuna Bazar area are present in this particular relief camp, CM Kejriwal told reporters after touring the facility.

Yamuna water level on decline still above danger mark, Know everything

The Yamuna’s water level is falling but remains above the danger limit, reaching 205.46 meters at 3 p.m. on Tuesday in Delhi, down from 205.71 meters at 7 a.m.

Due to rains that lashed several portions of Haryana a day earlier, the water level rose “slightly” on Monday. Rains pummeled many portions of the national capital on Tuesday, causing a flood-like condition in several low-lying districts of the national capital. The meteorological service predicted moderate rain in the national capital on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for Himachal Pradesh for the next week. The IMD has expected heavy rain in the state’s seven districts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, and Hamirpur.

The rain will continue in the region for the next week, according to the head of the Himachal Pradesh IMD, and another western disturbance is expected to activate in the state on July 22nd.

“It rained at most places in Himachal Pradesh in the last 24 hours. The highest rainfall was recorded at 120mm at Sirmaur’s Renuka. We have issued a yellow alert for the state during next one week and will issue an orange alert if needed.

Amid the continued rains we have also issued a warning of flash floods, landslides, mudslides and shooting stones in the districts like Mandi, Kullu, Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur during the next 5 to 7 days,” Said Surender Paul, head IMD HP.

“The visibility has also reduced because of the fog conditions prevailing in the state. Advisory for all has been issued, we are issuing timely alerts and now on an hourly basis,” said Surender Paul further.

Notably, torrential rainfall in the hilly province of Himachal have resulted in an unreported rise of the Yamuna, triggering floods in Delhi.

Yamuna water level up after drop over 2 days, no need to panic, say officials

The water level in the Yamuna rose from 205.45 meters at 6 a.m. to 205.50 meters at 8 a.m. and 205.76 meters at 11:00 a.m., remaining above the danger level after a steady dip over the previous two days amid a forecast for light rainfall on Monday.

Minister Atishi blamed the surge on heavy rainfall in portions of Haryana, while an official blamed it on the release of water from Delhi’s drains.

“The Central Water Commission has estimated that the water level can reach up to 206.1 metres tonight. Delhi does not face any danger due to it but the people in relief camps are requested not to go back. They should return when the water level falls below the danger mark [205.33 metres],” she said.

According to the stated authority, the outflow from Haryana’s Hathni Kund Barrage has not increased much. “…approximately 45-50,000 cusecs of water were being released at an hourly rate that was not alarming,” stated the unnamed official.

The official highlighted dewatering activities and stated that water stored in Delhi drains was being thrown into the river. “[This] causes minor fluctuations [in water level].” “People should not be concerned.”

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow notice for Tuesday, the second of two advisories encouraging people to keep an eye on the weather and stay updated. At 6 p.m. on July 23, the river hit an all-time high of 208.66 meters, shattering previous records and flooding low-lying areas of the city.

As water levels receded over the last two days, flooded arterial routes were reopened. Dewatering operations at Rajghat, Red Fort, and Vikas Marg continued. People evacuated from flooded areas will begin returning to their homes, according to Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister.

“We will help to restore normalcy to life. I appeal to everyone to help these people,” he said. The government has said every flood-hit household will get ₹10,000.”

The flooding on Thursday shut down three water treatment plants, affecting one-third of the city’s water supply. The Okhla and Chandrawal plants have been restarted, however the Wazirabad facility is only partially functioning.

Kejriwal said that the capacity of the Wazirabad plant is 134 MGD. “It has started producing 54 MGD. The equipment got most damaged in this plant. Hopefully, it should start working at full capacity soon. Engineers are working 24×7,” he tweeted.

The Yamuna River reached 205.48 meters on Monday morning, slightly over the danger limit of 205.33 meters, despite the fact that waterlogging continues in various districts of the national capital.
According to the Central Water Commission, the water level had reached 205.48 m at 7 a.m. on Monday, down from 206.02 m at 8 a.m. on Sunday, flooding wide swaths of the national capital. According to the statistics, the water level was 205.45 m for the last three hours before 7 a.m. Earlier, the water level of the river was recorded at 205.56 metres at 8 PM on Sunday.

The hourly water discharge from the Hathni Kund Barrage which had gone up to approximately 3,60,000 cusecs on July 11 was at 53,955 cusecs on Sunday at 08:00 PM.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has sent 17 rescue teams to flood-affected districts in Delhi. A total of 1606 individuals have been rescued. Furthermore, the NDRF teams evacuated 7241 persons and 956 cattle. In addition, 908 rescued people have received pre-hospital care.
Around 26,401 people have been evacuated from flood-affected low-lying regions in six Delhi districts, with approximately 21,504 individuals residing in 44 camps (including temporary relief camps and pucca buildings such as schools and community centers). The remaining evacuated persons have gone to places of their choosing, such as relatives’ homes or rented housing.

Key routes remain waterlogged in Delhi as Yamuna continues to be in spate

On Sunday, key arterial routes and surrounding districts of the national capital remained plagued by waterlogging from fresh rainfall, as the Yamuna remained in spate.
At 8 a.m. on Sunday, the water level had crossed the danger mark, flooding wide swaths of the national capital and sparking a blame game between the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the BJP. Visuals showed continuous and substantial waterlogging in the ITO, Red Fort, and Ring Road regions even on Sunday.

Drone visuals also showed waters from the overflowing Yamuna sneaking into the iconic Red Fort wall, near the Ring Road.

Further, Delhi’s Akshardham and the walled city area near Kashmere Gate continued to remain inundated with drone visuals showing the extent of flooding there.

However, the water level on the stretch of road from Majnu Ka Tila to Kashmere Gate has started to recede. The same comes as a huge respite for locals in the area, who had been literally marooned over the last few days due to excessive flooding on account of record rainfall and release of water into the Yamuna.
Meanwhile, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) carried out rescue operations in the low-lying areas near Pragati Maidan on Saturday late night as the Yamuna continued to be in spate, officials said.
Hundreds of people, who were rescued from low-lying areas by the NDRF personnel, spent the night at a relief camp in Mayur Vihar.

Fresh showers pelted numerous parts of the national capital on Saturday, causing severe flooding along major thoroughfares and putting traffic to a halt.

Delhi L-G VK Saxena chair meeting of Yamuna panel; 6-month action plan finalized

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena headed the meeting for Yamuna rejuvenation on Saturday along with the NGT-constituted high-level committee and has finalized taken eight parameters with monthly targets till June.

Meanwhile, for Yamuna rejuvenation parameters include augmenting sewage treatment, sewage treatment plants (STPs), tapping and cleaning of drains, sewage network in unauthorized colonies and JJ clusters, septage management, minimum environmental flow, upgradation of 13 CETPs for treatment and management.

Earlier on Friday the Delhi L-G chaired the first meeting of the high-level committee.

“After taking stock of the prevalent situation of water quality in the river Yamuna and the various drains in the city, along with the status of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) and Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in the city and dwelling upon the gaps in the actions taken till now, the meeting deliberated upon a concrete future plan of action,” LG office stated.

Moreover, till 31 January committee has been asked to submit its first report.

“A six-month plan of action till June 2023, with monthly targets, was decided upon. The same will be monitored on a weekly basis and the first report to the NGT will be submitted on January 31,” the statement further said.

“The task at hand is difficult due to legacy neglect, but yet achievable. Ensure implementation of the decisions taken today in a mission mode, without extending committed timelines. Any shortcoming on part of officials will not be accepted,” Delhi L-G said.

Earlier on 9 January the National Green Tribunal a committee was constituted for the rejuvenation of the Yamuna.

Following the Supreme Court order the bench observed and said, “It does appear that the situation to a great extent remains unsatisfactory, in violation of the judgment of the Hon’ble Supreme Court and orders of this Tribunal, fixing rigid timelines which are being defied at whims, without accountability and without visible improvement in the ground situation. Thus, an effective execution regime appears to be necessary with the involvement of topmost administrative authorities with the flexibility of procedures for the award of works for execution of pollution prevention projects.”

River Yamuna pollution has doubled: LG Office

The Lieutenant Governor’s Office of Delhi stated on Monday that during the last eight years of the Kejriwal government, Yamuna pollution has doubled. Since 2014, in terms of pollution, there has been a consistent rise, with the only exception being the year 2019 because Haryana was undertaking repair of the Yamuna Canal.
