Olympic Wrestler Sakshi Malik ‘Seated On His Bed’ Accuses Brij Bhushan For Sexual Harassment

October 22, 2024, 11:25 am

In her memoir Witness, Sakshi Malik, the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medallist, has recounted some of the most painful and traumatic moments of her career. Malik, who recently announced her retirement from wrestling, has made a shocking allegation against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, accusing him of sexual harassment.

Disturbing Incident at the 2012 Asian Junior Championship

One of the most harrowing incidents, detailed in Witness, occurred during the 2012 Asian Junior Championship in Almaty, Kazakhstan. According to Sakshi Malik, Singh lured her into his hotel room under the pretext of speaking to her parents on the phone. After the call, he allegedly tried to molest her.

“Singh connected me to my parents. It seemed harmless. But after I ended the call, he tried to molest me while I was seated on his bed. I pushed him off and started to cry,” Malik wrote, further alleging that Singh attempted to justify his behavior by claiming his actions were paternal, saying he had put his arms around her “papa jaise” (like a father). Malik managed to escape the room, running back to hers in tears.

A Pattern of Abuse

This isn’t the only traumatic experience Malik has endured. In her memoir, she also shared a disturbing incident from her childhood, involving a tuition teacher who harassed her for an extended period. The teacher would touch her inappropriately and call her over for lessons at odd hours. For years, Sakshi Malik kept silent, fearing it was her fault. Eventually, she confided in her mother, who supported her during both the incident with the teacher and her encounter with Singh.

Sidney Raymond Eudy, popularly known as Sid Vicious, Sycho Sid, or Sid Justice, has passed away at the age of 63 following a prolonged battle with cancer. His death was confirmed by his son, Gunnar Eudy, who shared the news on Facebook. Gunnar described his father as a man of strength, kindness, and love, and expressed that Sid’s presence would be deeply missed.

Who was Sid Eudy AKA Sid Vicious?

Sid Vicious, born John Simon Ritchie, gained fame as the bassist for the influential punk band the Sex Pistols before transitioning to professional wrestling. Despite his legendary status in punk rock, Sid Vicious is most renowned in the wrestling world for his impactful career in WWE and WCW.

His wrestling journey began in 1987, and he made a significant mark in WWE, then known as the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). Sid first appeared in WWE in 1991 as Sid Justice and quickly made an impression. He was a notable contender at the Royal Rumble that year, finishing as the runner-up. His early WWE career was marked by a high-profile rivalry with Hulk Hogan, leading to a main-event match against Hogan at WrestleMania 8 in 1992. Despite losing this match, Sid’s career was on the rise. However, his first WWE tenure was marred by issues related to a failed drug test, leading to a suspension and eventual departure.

Sid returned to WCW in 1993, where he continued to build his reputation. In 1994, he joined the United States Wrestling Association (USWA) and held the USWA Unified World Heavyweight Championship twice. He re-entered WWE in February 1995 under the ring name Sycho Sid, initially as the bodyguard for Shawn Michaels. However, his stint was problematic, culminating in a notable incident at WrestleMania 11 where he inadvertently contributed to Shawn Michaels’ loss against Diesel. Following a confrontation with Michaels, Sid delivered three power bombs to his partner, which led to further tension.

Sid’s second WWE career was cut short by a serious neck injury in 1997. After leaving WWE, he wrestled on the independent circuit and had a final stint in WCW from 1999 to 2001. Due to a leg injury and medical advice, Sid retired from wrestling briefly after 2001.

Sid made a memorable return to WWE in 2012 for the 1000th episode of Monday Night RAW, where he defeated Heath Slater. His final match took place on August 5, 2017, for Great North Wrestling in Ottawa, where he defeated Paul Rosenberg.

“From Cutting Hair to Sauna Sessions”: Drastic Steps Taken to Cut Down Vinesh Phogat’s Weight at Paris Olympics

August 7, 2024, 6:12 pm

In the wake of Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics, Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala, part of the Indian contingent, detailed the extensive measures taken to bring Phogat’s weight down to the required limit. Despite their efforts, Phogat remained 100 grams over the weight category, resulting in her disqualification. As a consequence, Phogat will finish last in the event standings, and Cuba’s Yusneylis Lopez, whom Phogat defeated in the semifinals, will take her place in the gold-medal match against the USA’s Sarah Hildebrandt.

Dr. Pardiwala explained that wrestlers often compete in a lower weight category than their natural weight to gain a competitive advantage. This involves a meticulous process of food and water restriction, combined with sweating through sauna sessions and exercise. After the weigh-in, athletes typically consume high-energy foods and limited water to restore their energy levels, countering the weakness and energy depletion from the weight-cutting process.

Phogat’s nutritionist had calculated her typical intake to be about 1.5 kg per day, providing enough energy for her bouts. However, after three matches on Tuesday, Phogat’s weight increased more than usual, leading the coach to employ a weight-cutting procedure that had previously been effective. Despite these efforts and drastic measures such as cutting Phogat’s hair and altering her clothing, her weight was still over the 50kg limit.

Following the disqualification, Phogat received intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration and underwent blood tests to ensure her health was stable. Despite her physical and medical parameters being normal, Phogat expressed deep disappointment, especially since this was her third Olympics.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has filed an appeal with the United World Wrestling (UWW), seeking reconsideration of the disqualification. IOA President PT Usha acknowledged the significant efforts made by Phogat’s medical team and the Indian delegation, including Dr. Pardiwala and Chef de Mission Gagan Narang, to meet the competition requirements.

As Vinesh Phogat Was Disqualified, Here’s a Look At Things She Did Before Her Match

August 7, 2024, 3:08 pm

The disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the women’s 50kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics is indeed a heartbreaking turn of events for her and the Indian sports community. Vinesh, who had already made history as the first Indian woman to qualify for a wrestling final at the Olympics, faced this setback due to being 100 grams over the weight limit.

Background and Efforts:

1. Weight Category Shift: Vinesh typically competes in the 53kg category but chose to compete in the 50kg category for these Olympics. This required her to make significant adjustments to her weight.

2. Extreme Measures: To meet the weight requirement, Vinesh undertook extreme measures, including cutting her hair and attempting to draw blood. Despite these efforts, she was unable to cut the final 100 grams needed.

3. Weigh-in Procedure: According to Ravi Dahiya, athletes are usually given a specific time frame to meet the weight requirement. If an athlete is overweight at the weigh-in time, they may have a short period to adjust. However, if the weight is not within the limit by the end of that time, disqualification is inevitable.

4. Pre-Olympics Preparation: Vinesh had undergone rigorous preparation, including sauna sessions and other weight management techniques, to compete in the 50kg category. Her coach had even considered cutting her hair before the Olympics to help reduce weight but decided against it.

Impact and Response:

Medal Contention: With Vinesh disqualified, the gold medal will be awarded to Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA. No silver medal will be given, and bronze medals will be decided through standard bouts between losing semifinalists and those from the repechage rounds.

National Sentiment: The disqualification has been a major disappointment for millions of supporters in India who were eagerly anticipating a gold medal from Vinesh. The sports community and fans are deeply affected by this turn of events, which adds to the emotional weight of her journey.

Vinesh’s story reflects the intense challenges athletes face, not only in their performance but also in managing their physical condition under extreme pressure.

August 7, 2024, 2:38 pm

Vinesh Phogat’s disqualification from the women’s 50kg wrestling event at the Paris Olympics due to being 100 grams overweight is indeed a significant blow for the Indian contingent. As a result of this disqualification, Vinesh will finish last in the final standings of her event and will not be eligible for a medal.

Here’s how the medal situation will be handled following her disqualification:

1. Gold Medal: The gold medal will be awarded to Sarah Hildebrandt of the USA, who was set to face Vinesh in the final.

2. Silver Medal: No silver medal will be awarded as Vinesh’s disqualification means there is no second-place finisher.

3. Bronze Medals: The bronze medals will be decided through the usual process:
