Russia fired 477 drones and 60 missiles; Ukraine downed many. This marks Ukraine’s third F-16 loss.
</excerpt>

A Ukrainian pilot was assassinated and an F-16 fighter aircraft shot down in a relentless Russian missile and drone attack, Ukraine’s military said on Sunday, as per Reuters.

The Ukrainian air force reported that the pilot was able to destroy seven airborne targets during Russia’s missile campaign, but his plane was hit during destroying the seventh one and started to lose altitude. “The pilot utilized all of his onboard weapons and destroyed seven air targets. While destroying the last one, his aircraft was damaged and started losing altitude,” the air force reported in a Telegram post quoted by Reuters.

The Kyiv military reported that the pilot attempted to steer the damaged F-16 clear of populated regions but was not able to eject in time.

Scope of Russia’s Nighttime Raids

Russia unleashed a huge nighttime offensive across Ukraine’s western, southern, and central areas, launching hundreds of drones as well as cruise and ballistic missiles. Local officials heard explosions in parts of Lviv, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Cherkasy.

As per the Ukrainian military statistics, Moscow fired at six targets in the country, releasing 477 drones and 60 missiles of different types. Ukraine’s air defense was able to destroy 211 drones and 38 missiles in the attack.

Third F-16 Lost in War

This is the third time that an F-16 fighter plane has been lost by Ukraine in its current conflict with Russia, based on military reports. The mass attack also targeted houses and vital infrastructure, injuring at least six civilians.

Victims included guards, prisoners, visitors, and locals. The attack damaged key prison areas, prompting authorities to relocate inmates without disclosing their number.
</excerpt>

Iran’s judiciary said Sunday at least 71 were killed when Israel targeted Tehran’s Evin prison during this month’s 12-day war, days after a ceasefire ended fighting between the arch-enemies.

Judiciary spokesman Asghar Jahangir said, “Based on official estimates, 71 individuals were killed in the bombing of Evin prison,” in reference to the bombing conducted on June 13 as part of the campaign of bombardments by Israel.

Extent of Destruction and Injuries

The Monday Israeli raid severely destroyed part of Evin’s administrative building. The large, well-equipped prison compound in northern Tehran is notorious for keeping political detainees and foreign nationals, according to human rights organizations.

Jahangir added that the victims of the attack included prison officials, guards, prisoners, and visiting family members as well as neighboring residents.

Facility and Inmates Impacted

The judiciary disclosed that Evin’s health centre and waiting areas were among the targeted sections. Photos released by the authorities depicted widespread damage within the prison, including ceilings that had collapsed, broken walls, debris scattered everywhere, and broken floors in waiting areas.

One day after the attack, Tuesday, Iranian authorities confirmed that prisoners were evacuated from Evin prison but declined to give the number of prisoners relocated or their identities.

Evin has previously held high-profile detainees, including Nobel Peace Prize winner Narges Mohammadi, several French citizens, and other foreigners.

With Muslim-majority nations backing Iran and rising nuclear threats, fears of World War III grow. Predictions from mystics and modern seers resurface amid multiple ongoing global conflicts and unrest.
</excerpt>

There have been strains between world powers come to a head after the United States attacked three Iranian nuclear facilities using bunker-busting bombs. It led various Muslim nations to openly support Iran. The U.S. has aggressively supported Israel, making the situation more unstable and potentially leading to a much bigger war.

If Iran retaliates with equivalent force, the threats of a world war increase particularly because some nations in Europe are inclined to side with Israel. China’s and Russia’s silence has also attracted suspicion, increasing speculation on whether they are gearing up for a more prominent role.

Have Predictions Warned Us About World War III?

Although two world wars already rewrote history, the current sophisticated weapons render the likelihood of a third much more devastating. The United Nations, established to avoid just such a world crisis, now appears to be losing control in keeping the peace.

What Triggered the Last Two World Wars?

World War I started on July 28, 1914, when Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia. The resulting war consumed several countries and lasted approximately four years.

World War II broke out on September 1, 1939, with Germany’s invasion of Poland. It raged for almost six years and left unprecedented devastation.

Nostradamus’ Prophecies

16th-century French seer Nostradamus is often quoted in conversations regarding a possible third world war. He mentioned, in Les Prophéties, a great war to be seen in the 21st century, as purportedly originating from Mesopotamia (current-day Iraq) and continuing for 27 years. He foresaw it will start sometime between 2009 and 2013, a time frame that has obviously elapsed without one.

Athos Salom’s Warnings

Brazilian seer Athos Salom, who is sometimes called the ‘Living Nostradamus’, prophesied a global war to come, which will be triggered by EMP and artificial intelligence. He also highlighted rising instability in the Middle East and arms races as potential triggers.

Baba Vanga’s Cryptic Vision

Bulgarian mystic Baba Vanga is also known for linking her visions to a potential third world war. She reportedly foresaw the Middle East as the likely epicenter of such a conflict. However, her predictions lack concrete timelines or detailed descriptions.

Indian Prophecy: The Bhavishya Malika

As per the ancient Indian scripture Bhavishya Malika, the last period of the Kali Yuga would see a calamitous war that would last six and a half years. The prophecy mentions an attack on India by China and some Islamic nations but finally foretells India’s victory. It also predicts a sequence of natural catastrophes, such as floods, earthquakes, and a meteorite impact in the Bay of Bengal.

Are These Predictions Credible

While these prophecies from Nostradamus and Baba Vanga to regional texts like the Bhavishya Malika frequently draw public attention, their accuracy is debatable. Many past forecasts have proven unreliable. Still, the current global climate rife with extremism, regional wars, and advanced military tech does heighten concerns.

Ongoing Crises Fuel Global Anxiety

Concerns for a second world war have strengthened because of wars such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which started in 2022. Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, has threatened repeatedly to launch nuclear attacks in retaliation if NATO provides additional military aid to Ukraine.

In parallel, the heightening of tensions between Iran and Israel especially after Iran’s missile retaliation to Israeli attacks on its nuclear facilities—has become the key flashpoint. The U.S. has since intensified its strikes against Iranian targets, further exacerbating regional tensions.

US-China Frictions Over Taiwan Add to the Risks

Another region of increasing worry is the U.S.-China confrontation on Taiwan. The threat of a Chinese invasion by 2027 was warned about by military experts, putting another twist of instability into the international scene.

The Rising Nuclear Threat

Nuclear threats posed by states like Russia, Iran, and North Korea are on the rise. There are also indications that South Korea is probing nuclear weapons for itself. All of this, along with the explosive growth in military technology, is rendering the world ever more vulnerable.

Record Number of Conflicts in 2024

In 2024, the globe experienced 56 ongoing conflicts, the most since World War II, surrounding 92 nations. There was an escalation of 25% in violent events, resulting in large-scale displacement of people in countries like Sudan, Myanmar, Haiti, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Social Media Buzz

European and North American polls suggest that 41% to 55% of individuals think that a third world war may erupt in the next 5 to 10 years, primarily because of tensions with Russia. On social networking sites, individuals often associate the crises in the Middle East and Ukraine with possible causes of another world war.

Taiwan supported the patrol, and regional tensions rose amid China’s simultaneous military drills and Taiwan’s anti-Beijing stance.
</excerpt>

China’s military has sharply condemned the British Royal Navy after HMS Spey made its way through the Taiwan Strait earlier this week. Calling the action a calculated move to provoke tensions, Beijing labeled it an “intentional provocation” that “undermines peace and stability” in the area.

The British Royal Navy defended the journey of HMS Spey, citing the patrol was conducted under a routine deployment and adhered to international law. The first UK naval vessel to travel through the strategic strait in four years.

The deployment is being made in tandem with the arrival of a UK carrier strike group in the Indo-Pacific, which will spend the next eight months in the region. UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has welcomed the mission, the largest in decades, he says—led by the aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, and declared it is intended to “send a clear message of strength to our adversaries, and a message of unity and purpose to our allies.”

Approximately 4,000 British troops are involved in the operation, with engagement with 30 nations and combined military exercises with the US, India, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Reaction of Beijing and Sovereignty Issues

China, which asserts Taiwan as a part of its territory even though the island has democratic rule, responded sharply. China’s navy spokesman accused the UK of “publicly hyping up” the transit of the HMS Spey and called Britain’s explanation “a distortion of legal principles and an attempt to mislead the public.

“These acts are deliberate provocations which interfere with the situation and erode peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait,” the spokesperson continued. The Chinese military confirmed it closely followed the ship in its passage and warned that its forces “will resolutely counter all threats and provocations.”

Subsequently, a Chinese foreign ministry official recognized other countries’ freedom to navigate the strait but gave a clear warning: “China respects other countries’ rights to navigate the Taiwan Strait,” he said, with China “opposing firmly any country using the term freedom of navigation to provoke and menace China’s sovereign security.”

Support From Taiwan

Taiwan’s ministry of foreign affairs hailed the patrol as a gesture that assists in the defense of freedom of navigation across the Taiwan Strait.

Whereas the United States regularly holds such operations within the region, Britain’s previous transit of the strait occurred in 2021 when HMS Richmond sailed through on a mission to Vietnam. That operation was also condemned by China, which reacted by sending troops to scout the vessel.

HMS Spey is one of two British warships to be permanently based in the Indo-Pacific, bolstering the UK’s increasing naval presence in the region.

The fresh tensions are occurring amid increasing tension between China and Taiwan, especially since Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te, a strident Beijing critic, took office. He has referred to China as a “foreign hostile force” and introduced measures geared towards pushing back against Chinese influence in Taiwan.

Beijing has persisted with its military intimidation with constant exercises near Taiwan, such as a live-fire exercise in April that it said imitated attacks on critical infrastructure like ports and energy facilities.

China’s rebuke of the UK comes as its two carriers conduct an unprecedented combined military exercise off Japan. The move has been raising alarm in Tokyo and contributing to regional concern over Beijing’s growing military assertiveness.

Why Iran and Israel Can’t Go to War the Traditional Way | TDG Explainer

<excerpt>Though separated by nearly 2,000 km, Iran and Israel engage in a complex conflict using drones, proxy militias, and covert operations. With no direct land route, their rivalry plays out through airstrikes, missile threats, and strategic alliances across West Asia.
</excerpt>

In the geopolitically tangled West Asia, there are perhaps few antagonisms as entrenched and geographically complex as the one between Israel and Iran. Unlike most arch-nemesis like India and Pakistan or the two Koreas, these countries are divided by almost 2,000 kilometers with no common border between them. Their tensions unfold not along contiguous trenches, but over airs, cyberspace, and other countries’ zones.

Though intensely hostile towards each other, Israel and Iran are not close neighbours. The shortest air distance between Tel Aviv and Tehran is approximately 1,800 to 2,000 kilometres. Any possible land route would travel through Jordan, Iraq, and possibly Syria. Even during times of peace, this overland travel is diplomatically and logistically impossible.

No Land Route, No Diplomatic Ties

Legally, there is no current route for normal travel between the two nations. There is no direct road, rail, or commercial route. Ever since they cut diplomatic ties in 1979, the two countries have imposed total travel bans on citizens of the other. Iranian authorities may refuse entry to any person who has an Israeli visa stamp on their passport, while Israeli citizens are strictly prohibited from entering Iran.

Therefore, even if there were a direct military clash, there is no avenue for ground troops to attack without having to cross several, frequently unfriendly, sovereign states. And many of them will not provide their soil as a theater of war staging ground.

Ground War Unlikely

A conventional ground attack by the two is virtually impossible. Iran has one of the largest armies in the region, with more than 1.1 million personnel in reserves included. Israel, though smaller in size with 4 to 5 lakh soldiers, enjoys the best military technology and training. But these advantages are nullified by sheer distance and denial of access.

The distance has moved the front lines into the air. Israel, with its F-16 combat aircraft and backed by in-air refuelling, has allegedly conducted precision bombing within Iran without touching foreign ground. There are some indications of clandestine assistance from nations such as Jordan, where there could be permission for the use of airspace, and Qatar, which may provide a clandestine operations base.

Covert Warfare and Proxy Battles

The lack of a land border hasn’t prevented either country from facing the other. Secret operations have been the preferred tactic. Israel’s spy agency, Mossad, is thought to have carried out attacks with local drone bases within Iran. These are designed to destroy missile infrastructure and interfere with Iranian defence systems.

Iran, however, depends on powerful proxies. From Hezbollah in Lebanon to Hamas in Gaza and militias in Iraq and Syria, Tehran uses these allies to push back against Israel’s security without sending its own troops. These proxies serve as Iran’s frontline forces, applying pressure against Israel from all sides.

Missiles vs Fighter Jets

If open war broke out, the battlefield would be controlled by aerial and missile strikes. Israel’s air force is technology ahead with experienced pilots and combat-capable aircraft. Iran’s fleet is older and less capable by comparison, but it has heavily invested in ballistic missiles and armed drones.

These missiles have the capability to penetrate deep into Israeli airspace, hitting cities and infrastructure. Although Iran’s air force will not match Israel’s, its missiles could still cause a massive amount of damage if fired in large quantities.

The Shadow of the United States

While the US technically denies its involvement in Israeli attacks, its military deployment in the region cannot be overlooked. Reports have it that strategic resources, such as B-2 bombers, are based in locations such as Diego Garcia. The deployment indicates readiness, if not desire, to intervene when needed.

Moreover, nations such as Jordan and Qatar though not directly involved have been said to permit their airspace or logistical support to aid limited Israeli action. These states balance the tightrope of not taking part in ground conflict yet allowing limited aerial action.

The rivalry between Iran and Israel is a war characterized by vacuity of borders, of official declarations of war, and of invasion by bodies of troops. Instead, it is waged through drones, missiles, clandestine operations, and local militias. In spite of the spatial distance, the animosity has been strong and enduring.

It’s not engaged with tanks and trenches but ideology, cyber warfare, and influence. A war that defies geography and reminds the world that modern-day wars can be fought without ever treading on enemy soil.

A viral news debate blaming India led to humorous exchanges like “Aapke sukoon ke liye jung thodi ladenge,” triggering widespread online reactions mocking the anchors and situation.
</excerpt>

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings was delayed after a section of the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium was damaged just before the game. Although not confirmed, reports indicate a drone crash is the cause behind the occurrence, against the backdrop of increasing tensions between India and Pakistan.

No official reaction has come from the Pakistani government so far, but the news has brought an explosive debate on national television channels. One such panel debate’s clip, which has since gone viral, has Pakistani anchors taking speculations on India’s alleged involvement.

Shared by an X user, the clip depicts panelists discussing increased tensions between the two nations. The debate also touches on the relocation of PSL matches to Dubai. One female anchor passionately claimed, “Did IPL go to Dubai? Is your PSL getting affected? Who stopped your cricket? India. Who gave you a financial burden? India did. For how long do we have to take such bullying? India is a bully. For how long will you stop the sentiments of Pakistanis? Our PSL has been struck by their drone.”

Watch:

In a humorous twist during the debate, she asserted, “Jab tak IPL Bharat se bahar nahi jata, mujhe sukoon nahi milega.” To which another anchor responded, “Aapke sukoon ke liye jung thodi ladenge,” making the studio erupt into laughter. The panellist went on, “This is about Pakistan’s peace and harmony,” making viewers laugh even more.

The video went viral and elicited a deluge of responses on the internet. “These guys have a lot of sense of humour,” one user said, while another added, “India is a bully…. </excerpt>

From Conservation to Countering terrorism
India’s biodiversity crisis has escalated into a national security threat, as wildlife trafficking increasingly funds terrorism, insurgency, and organized crime. A new policy vision is imperative.
India, home to some of the planet’s most iconic and endangered species, is facing an escalating crisis: wildlife trafficking is no longer just an environmental issue—it is now a matter of national security. Criminal syndicates are targeting India’s tigers, elephants, rhinos, and pangolins to fund terrorism and insurgency, often in alliance with transnational networks operating across Southeast Asia and Africa. As the line between eco-crime and terrorism blurs, India must evolve from traditional conservation to adopting counterterrorism-grade technology, intelligence, and cooperation.
This ground level findings presents a comprehensive policy analysis and proposes a futuristic Anti-Wildlife Poaching System (AWPS), drawing lessons from global best practices—especially South Africa’s Rhino DNA Index System (RhODIS)—to address India’s critical conservation and security gaps.

New Face of
Eco-Terrorism
Eco-terrorism—the use of environmental crimes to fund insurgency or militant activity—has become a strategic weapon in the hands of traffickers. In India’s Northeast and along the Indo-Myanmar border, tiger bones, rhino horns, and pangolin scales are trafficked to finance insurgent operations. In South Africa, rhino poaching syndicates with military-grade weapons breach parks like Kruger, with funds allegedly linked to transnational arms and drug networks.
These networks not only threaten biodiversity but also challenge sovereignty, destabilize rural communities, and corrupt law enforcement institutions.
India’s Broken Shield
A. Weak Law Enforcement and Judicial Apathy
• Wildlife crime conviction rate remains below 2%.
• Absence of dedicated wildlife courts stalls justice.
• Wildlife crime is not prioritized by mainstream policing.
B. Understaffed, Underequipped Forest Forces
• Over 30% staff vacancies in forest departments.
• Guards lack proper arms, mobility, and training.
• Most patrols are manual and reactive.
C. Intelligence Failures and Data Fragmentation
• No central wildlife crime database or integration with NATGRID/CCTNS.
• Poor inter-agency collaboration across customs, police, cybercrime.
• No forensic linkage between seizures and poaching incidents.
D. Disengaged Communities in Conflict Zones
• Eco-development funds often delayed or underutilized.
• Human-wildlife conflict fosters resentment.
• Locals sometimes aid poachers due to poverty or coercion.
NextGen-AWPS
Architecture
India must transition from a manual, siloed system to a real-time, technology-driven surveillance and response architecture.
Core Components of NextGen-AWPS:
• AI/ML Risk Engine: Analyzes live sensor data, predicts poaching risk maps.
• Central Command Hub: Integrates NTCA, WCCB, police, border forces.
• SMART Mobile Patrols: GPS-tracked patrols with real-time route optimization.
• Community App: Anonymous tip line for locals and tourists.
• Drone and AI Camera Surveillance: Thermal drones, camera traps with facial recognition.
• Acoustic and IoT Sensors: Detect gunshots, chainsaws, and human intrusion.
• Blockchain Evidence Chain: Digital forensic logs to improve conviction.
Global Tech Models India Can Adapt
• South Africa: RhODIS Forensic System
• Matches seized rhino horn DNA to poached carcasses.
• Used in >5,000 investigations with major convictions.
• India can replicate for tigers and pangolins.
• Kenya’s Predictive Mapping (PAWS)
• AI-based terrain and crime prediction models.
• Used to redeploy patrols proactively.
• India’s Bandipur and Kanha forests piloting similar models.
• Interpol and Cross-Border Models
• ENVIRONET and CENComm allow real-time crime alerts.
• India should post wildlife attachés in Southeast Asia.
• Peru and the Amazon Basin: Indigenous-Led Surveillance
• Community-based monitoring using smartphones and GPS mapping has reduced illegal logging and wildlife poaching.
• A model for integrating tribal knowledge with real-time tech in Indian forests.
• Thailand’s Smart Patrol System
• Digital logbooks and GIS-based patrol monitoring systems have helped reduce tiger poaching.
• Systematic deployment of data has empowered enforcement.
• United States: LEMIS and Operation Crash
• Law Enforcement Management Information System (LEMIS) collects import-export data on wildlife.
• Operation Crash disrupted international rhino horn trafficking rings, linking to Asian markets.
• India can adapt LEMIS-like systems for import-export monitoring.

Projected Outcomes
• 60–80% reduction in undetected poaching.
• 50% improvement in patrol coverage efficiency.
• Faster, court-trusted convictions via blockchain.
• Surge in community alerts by 70%.

Ethical and
Operational
Considerations
• Ensure AI and surveillance follow privacy and data protection laws.
• Regular training and capacity building for forest staff.
• Solar-powered tech solutions to tackle power scarcity.
• Interoperability between central and state systems is key.
Strategic Deepening: Advanced
Recommendations
National Security Integration
• Classify wildlife trafficking under UAPA to enable NIA-led investigations.
• Form Joint Wildlife-Defense Task Force (JWDTF) with NTCA, IB, NSG, and forest officers.
Cyber and Financial Surveillance
• Establish Crypto-Intelligence Unit to monitor darknet and crypto-enabled wildlife trade.
• AI-driven financial surveillance to track hawala networks and NGO misuse.
Strategic Infrastructure
• Fortify eco-corridors with e-fencing, motion sensors, and thermal drones.
• Wildlife Surveillance Grid (WiS-GRID): National sensor- and drone-based detection network.
• Global Diplomacy and Partnerships
• Create Wildlife Crime Diplomacy Cell in MEA for bilateral/multilateral coordination.
• Advocate for a QUAD Eco-Security Track on wildlife crime and eco-terrorism.
• Forge South-South Cooperation Pacts with Brazil, Indonesia, and Congo Basin nations on anti-trafficking tech.
• Join forces with EU and UNODC for funding, training, and policy harmonization.
• Push for a Global Eco-Crime Convention under the UN, classifying wildlife crimes as transnational organized crime.
• Leverage the G20 Presidency Platform to mainstream wildlife security as part of global economic and security discussions.
• Encourage technology transfers and joint R&D in surveillance and forensic science.
• Strengthen extradition treaties for faster repatriation of wildlife criminals.
Institutional and Legal Reform
• Wildlife Countercrime Academy for cyber, drone, and forensic training.
• Fast-track Wildlife Courts to reduce pendency and enhance convictions.
Wildlife Wars: Strategic
Takeaways
• Wildlife crime = National Security Threat.
• India-South Africa Cooperation: Shared task forces, forensic exchanges.
• Crypto-Surveillance: Use AI to track financial flows of trafficking rings.
• Global Messaging: Elevate wildlife crime at the UN and G20 security agenda.
India must establish a National Wildlife Forensics Grid—modeled on RhODIS—for species like tigers, elephants, and pangolins, using portable DNA testing tools in the field. To escalate the seriousness of the crime, organized wildlife trafficking should be legally redefined as a national security threat under laws like UAPA or MCOCA. Financial Intelligence Units (FIU-IND) should be mobilized to trace illicit revenues from poaching through crypto channels and hawala networks. On the international front, India must form bilateral eco-security partnerships with countries such as South Africa, Nepal, Myanmar, and Mozambique for intelligence exchange, extradition, and tech collaboration. Domestically, AI-powered surveillance should be deployed along vulnerable borders like the Indo-Myanmar corridor, with real-time integration into police and intelligence databases to flag high-risk zones. Simultaneously, forest personnel should be trained in counter-insurgency and equipped with tactical gear to operate effectively in eco-terror hotspots.
India’s Wildlife Crisis Is a War We Must Win

Wildlife trafficking is no longer just a poaching issue—it is a hybrid threat that funds terror, corrodes institutions, and weakens India’s national security. The NextGen-AWPS offers a radical blueprint to change that. With real-time surveillance, forensic precision, international collaboration, and community inclusion, India can create a first-of-its-kind eco-defense system. The future of our forests—and national sovereignty—depends on it.India must act, not only as a custodian of biodiversity but as a defender of its borders, ecosystems, and future generations. The battle for wildlife is a battle for national integrity. To ensure long-term impact, India must institutionalize wildlife security as a permanent fixture in national security doctrine, build multi-agency task forces with real-time intelligence capabilities, and champion international coalitions to combat transnational eco-crime. Only through a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach can India decisively win this battle.

The troupe supports soldiers by fundraising and weaving camouflage nets while continuing performances despite frequent Russian attacks.
</excerpt>

At Chernihiv Theatre in Ukraine, women are now performing traditionally male roles after a local theater adapted to the war. Four of the theatre’s male actors and five stage employees have volunteered to join the army since Russia invaded in 2022. Just two men are left on stage, while most of the on-stage and backstage work is performed by women.

“We were rehearsing Shakespeare’s ‘King Lear’ when suddenly our men were sent to the front,” said director Roman Pokrovskyi, 52. “We had only the female half of the troupe remaining. So we thought, ‘Well, if men played women in Shakespeare’s day, why not try it?'”

A New Take on a Historic Play

The group has refurbished its repertoire, one entry being “Hetman,” an adaptation about Ivan Mazepa, 17th-century leader of the Cossacks, who stood in opposition to Russian rule and found an alliance in Sweden. Ukraine’s battle today for self-rulership means that Mazepa’s narrative is every bit as resonant.

Actress Ruslana Ostapko, 43, performs several male roles, even wearing a painted mustache for realism. But for Ostapko and her fellow actors, the work is emotionally charged. “This is pain, the pain of the whole nation, our pain,” she said, thinking about friends who are fighting at the front.

Theater as a Center for Resistance

Beyond performances, the theater has become a hub for wartime efforts. Staff—including cloakroom attendants, cashiers, and cafeteria workers—spend their days weaving camouflage nets for soldiers before welcoming audiences at night. The team also raises funds to supply their deployed colleagues with essential equipment.

Some of them will never come back. Actor Kostiantyn Slobodeniuk is missing, and sound engineer Vyacheslav Shevtsov was killed during a counteroffensive in Kursk last August. Oleksii Bysh, 52, one of the last male actors left, remembers their absence with a tinge of sadness.

Saving Culture In The Face Of Destruction

Chernihiv, situated close to Russia and Belarus, is still held by Ukraine but has been brutally destroyed. Oksana Tunik-Fryz, aged 46, chairman of the Chernihiv Regional Administration Arts and Culture Council, highlighted the danger to Ukrainian cultural identity. “The enemy is killing us from inside us by killing our culture,” she explained. “Killing one Ukrainian is like killing one man. But to destroy our culture is to kill our future.

Despite constant Russian bombardments, shows are being performed. In advance of each performance, an announcement makes clear that air raid alerts can stop the performance. Suggestively, the message was left by Slobodeniuk, who is currently missing. When alarms ring out, patrons take cover before reopening the show.

United in the Face of War

Though Russian airstrikes by drones still pose a legitimate threat, the war has deepened the people, theater director Ihor Tykhomyrov said. “IT brings them together,” he said.

Observing their perseverance, Bysh referenced Ukrainian film director Oleksandr Dovzhenko:
“We are a small theatre. But, as Dovzhenko said, you are only little from far. Close up, you are great.

</excerpt>

While inflation rates dropped in many economies worldwide in 2024, the lingering effects of rising prices led to significant political consequences. Voters, frustrated by the steep increases in costs for essentials like food and energy over the past few years, expressed their discontent by punishing incumbent parties in elections across the globe.

In the United States, the inflation-driven discontent played a pivotal role in Donald Trump’s return to the presidency, four years after he was ousted from the White House amid claims of election fraud. Despite his supporters’ failed attempt to overturn the 2020 election results through the January 6 Capitol riot, they made their voices heard at the ballot box this year, leading to a new American leadership that may challenge democratic norms domestically and alter international relations.

New governments in several countries

The anti-incumbent sentiment fueled by inflation also resulted in new governments in several countries, including Britain, Botswana, Portugal, and Panama. In South Korea, voters shifted power to the opposition in parliament, providing a check on President Yoon Suk Yeol, who faced backlash after imposing martial law in early December—a move that was quickly reversed by the National Assembly. Elections in France, Germany, Japan, and India also saw significant political shifts.

In stark contrast, Russia remained unchanged as Vladimir Putin was re-elected president with a staggering 88% of the vote, marking a record in post-Soviet Russia. Moscow continued its military campaign against Ukraine, achieving notable territorial gains. The potential implications of Trump’s return to the White House on the Ukraine conflict remain uncertain, with many in Ukraine and Europe concerned that he may favor Putin and seek to solidify the current status quo.

In the Middle East, Israel’s military operations against Gaza expanded into Lebanon, leaving the Iran-backed Hezbollah weakened. Meanwhile, a coalition of rebel groups successfully overthrew Bashar al-Assad in Syria, now vying for control of the country.

On the business front, companies worldwide grappled with the challenges and opportunities presented by artificial intelligence. The influence of technology firms on the market is underscored by the fact that seven major tech companies, dubbed the “Magnificent Seven,” now account for over one-third of the S&P 500’s market capitalization.

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and a key figure among these tech giants, is also an adviser and financial supporter of President-elect Trump. This intersection of technological innovation and political power is poised to shape the landscape of 2025 and beyond.

</excerpt>

On Friday, Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah announced that its conflict with Israel has entered a “new phase,” following the confirmation of Hamas chief Yahya Sinwar’s death in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza.

Sinwar’s killing may significantly impact the ongoing West Asian conflict, especially as Israel prepares for a retaliatory strike against Iran, which is anticipated soon. Sinwar was the architect behind the October 7 attack that escalated the hostilities.

While Hamas has yet to respond to Israel’s announcement, Iran expressed its condolences for the Palestinian militant leader through its UN mission. Many had hoped that Sinwar’s death might lead to a resolution of the conflict; however, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated, “our war has not ended yet.”

Hezbollah’s New Tactics

Hezbollah’s operations room released a statement on Friday, indicating that its fighters have deployed new precision-guided missiles and explosive drones for the first time. This statement likely refers to a drone loaded with explosives that successfully navigated Israel’s multilayered air-defense system and struck a mess hall at a military training camp in Israel, resulting in four soldiers’ deaths and numerous injuries.

Earlier this week, Hezbollah also reported firing a new missile type, the Qader 2, at areas near Tel Aviv. Additionally, the group’s air defense units claimed to have shot down two Israeli Hermes 450 drones this week.

Global Response to Hostage Situation

In light of Sinwar’s death, world leaders have urged for the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. On the other hand, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres refrained from celebrating Sinwar’s elimination, echoing his previous stance of not labeling Hamas as a terrorist organization following the October 7 attacks.

Recently, a man’s comical response to a viral clip of a girl acting as a princess has sparked a wave of laughter across the internet. A few months back, a video featuring a girl in a princess role, instructing her army to prepare for war, gained significant attention. In reply, a man, dressed as a member of her royal court, humorously reenacted the entire conversation from his perspective.

The video opens with the girl, portraying the princess, summoning her army chief for an urgent meeting. The man, appearing as a royal figure, is seen half-clothed with only a yellow cloth draped around him and a crown atop his head. He bows respectfully before her and asks for her orders. The princess tells him to inform the prince about the darkness threatening the kingdom.

Confused, the army chief turns to his assistant, asking, “Is it dark?” He looks around and adds, “Why? But it is still light.” The princess then warns, “The enemy can attack us at any time.” The army chief panics, stating, “The enemy can attack, get ready. The prince should be ready for the war, go and inform him.”

In response, the man playing the army chief instructs his assistant to prepare for a potential war and notify the prince. The assistant humorously replies that the prince is currently out and promises to inform him when he returns. The comedic exchange continues when the princess asks the army chief to retrieve her sword. The man humorously pulls out a wooden stick from his shorts and presents it to the princess.

She requests the army chief to take her sword and prepare for battle, to which he responds by keeping her sword and assuring her it will be returned after the war. This amusing video was shared by a user named Dharmendra Bilotia on Instagram, where it has garnered over 40 million views.

“Please, people don’t go out; there is a danger of war in the state. Commander – Dharmendra Bahubali, Rajpal Rajshree,” wrote Dharmendra Bilotia. One viewer humorously remarked, “The way to keep a sword is a bit casual,” after watching the entertaining clip.

With over a quarter of the workforce lost, sectors like construction, transport, and manufacturing face staffing crises, prompting companies to offer more benefits, training, and higher wages.
</excerpt>

As the war with Russia depletes Ukraine‘s labor force, companies are turning to women and young workers to fill critical roles. Liliia Shulha, who left behind a series of “boring, sedentary” office jobs for a position as a truck driver at Fozzy Group, exemplifies this shift. “I always dreamed about big cars,” Shulha said, reflecting on her new role that aligns with her childhood passion.

Since the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine has seen a significant reduction in its workforce, losing over a quarter of its labor pool. The central bank reports that nearly 60% of businesses are struggling to find skilled workers. As a result, companies are adjusting their hiring practices, focusing on women and youth to counteract these shortages.

The economic strain has prompted businesses to hire more women for roles traditionally occupied by men, such as truck drivers, coal miners, and security guards. In the construction and transport sectors, where male workers are particularly scarce due to military conscription, female employees are increasingly stepping in. Similarly, young people are being recruited and trained for various entry-level positions.

Companies are also increasing wages and expanding job descriptions to attract and retain staff. The average monthly wage has risen from about 14,500 to 20,000 hryvnias over the past year. Firms like Metinvest and Silpo are actively recruiting women and teenagers, offering training programs and internships to address the labor gap.

The Ukrainian government, alongside foreign partners, has introduced reskilling programs to help citizens acquire new professions in demand. “We provide opportunities for everyone to obtain a new profession or enhance their skills,” said Deputy Economy Minister Tetiana Berezhna, emphasizing the ongoing effort to support Ukraine’s economic recovery and workforce adaptation.

</excerpt>

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, during a final media conference at the G7 in Borgo Egnazia, southern Italy, expressed her belief that India could play a significant role in resolving the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“China and India have a role to play in resolving this conflict. The only thing that cannot happen is to believe the conflict can be solved by abandoning Ukraine,” Meloni stated after her meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at The European House – Ambrosetti (TEHA) annual conference.

Italy has been a staunch supporter of Ukraine, supplying weapons to Kyiv with the condition that they are used solely within Ukrainian territory to defend against Russian forces.

Meloni’s comments echoed those of Russian President Vladimir Putin, who recently suggested that China, India, and Brazil could potentially mediate peace talks for Ukraine. “We respect our friends and partners, who I believe are sincerely seeking to resolve this conflict, particularly China, Brazil, and India. I am in constant communication with them on this issue,” Putin said, as reported by Russia’s state-owned news agency, TASS.

Putin also referenced an early agreement between Russian and Ukrainian negotiators from talks in Istanbul during the initial weeks of the war, suggesting it could serve as a basis for future discussions.

In the early stages of the conflict in 2022, Russia and Ukraine engaged in multiple rounds of talks aimed at reaching a peace agreement. However, disputes over territorial control, Ukraine’s national identity, and security guarantees hindered the finalization of any deal.

India, meanwhile, has maintained a position of formal neutrality throughout the Russia-Ukraine war, guided by its national interests. New Delhi has consistently abstained from key votes at the UN Security Council, General Assembly, and Human Rights Council that condemned Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Additionally, India has avoided openly criticizing Moscow or President Putin, refraining from labeling Russia as the aggressor in the crisis.

The IDF deployed combat engineers, paratroopers, and the Duvdevan special forces unit for the operation. Five terrorists, including Muhammad Jaber, also known as “Abu Shahja’a,” the leader of terrorist activity in Nur Shams, were killed during a firefight while hiding in a mosque in Tulkarm.

</excerpt>

According to 25 of the UDHR which speaks about broad spectrum of rights, including the rights to adequate food, water, sanitation, clothing, housing, and medical care. It also covers social protection for circumstances beyond one’s control, such as disability, widowhood, unemployment, and old age. These rights are recognized as fundamental for survival in almost every country. However, these basic rights are at risk for individuals in conflict zones. The current situation between Israel and Palestine is a pertinent example. This article is not about assigning blame, but about advocating for humanity.

In regions affected by war, people face severe shortages of water and food. Access to safe water is often compromised due to damaged infrastructure, deteriorating pipelines, and dangerous water collection conditions. The lack of safe water leads to widespread illness among children, dysfunction in schools and hospitals, and the spread of disease and malnutrition, representing a gross violation of human rights on an international level.

Reports show that over 400 million children reside in conflict-affected regions, where attacks on water systems have severe consequences. These attacks force children to depend on contaminated water, elevating their disease risk. In these zones, both targeted and random attacks obliterate water infrastructure, injure workers, and interrupt power supplies vital for water systems. The danger of unsafe water can rival that of armed conflict. Children under fifteen in these areas face almost triple the likelihood of dying from water-related diseases than from violence. For children under five, the threat is even graver-they are over twenty times more likely to die from diarrheal diseases due to unsafe water and sanitation than from direct violence. Additionally, individuals in unstable regions are twice as likely to lack access to safe drinking water and basic hygiene facilities.

With the increasing number of conflicts and urban warfare worldwide, access to water has become one of the main humanitarian issues, further exacerbated by climate change. As per Gilles Carbonnier, vice-president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in the ninth World Water Forum in Dakar said that “We need to innovate and develop new partnerships to respond”.

Now because of these rising issues on 24th May, 2018, for the first time the UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution condemning the use of food insecurity and starvation as tactics of war. This resolution, the first of its kind, recognized the threat to the lives of tens of millions of people. It urged all parties in international or civil conflicts to leave food stocks, farms, markets, and other distribution mechanisms intact and to allow humanitarian aid workers unimpeded access to populations in dire need. The resolution also stated that “using starvation of civilians as a method of warfare may constitute a war crime.”

Throughout history, warfare has frequently employed strategies aimed at depriving enemy forces or civilians of essential resources. During the American Civil War, Union troops operated under the Lieber Code, permitting them to “deprive the hostile belligerent, whether armed or unarmed, of subsistence.” In World War II, Nazi Germany’s “Hunger Plan” posed a threat of starvation to over 20 million people in Soviet-held territories had it been fully enacted. The siege of Leningrad (St. Petersburg) from 1941 to 1944 saw hundreds of thousands succumb to starvation. These tragic events serve as poignant reminders of the immense suffering endured. As we look back, it is crucial to learn from history’s lessons and strive to avoid repeating such atrocities in the present day.

There is a saying that “all is fair in love and war.” But is it truly fair to starve innocent children in the name of war? It does not matter which country they are from or what religion they profess; what matters is their shared humanity. If we continue to kill this young generation in the name of war, we risk ending an entire generation of a community or a tribe within a few years.

Although the severe impact of war on food and water supplies has been frequently discussed on international platforms, the pressing questions of how to stop the war and ensure access to food and water in conflict areas remain unanswered. This issue is not being raised for the first time, and it demands urgent and effective solutions.

It is very painful to watch small children dying from the scarcity of water, food, and hospital facilities in conflict areas. These innocent souls are becoming victims of war politics, and this can seriously impact their mental health even if they survive the war. It’s not about your child or my child; it’s about humanity, and we must raise our voices against war.

In today’s global world, we have seen nations join hands to combat severe pandemics like COVID-19, working together to protect their citizens from deadly diseases. The same strong determination is needed to create a peaceful world and spread humanity. Terrorism is unacceptable, but to end terrorism, we cannot kill innocent souls.

We must call on international organizations, governments, and individuals to take a stand. Support humanitarian efforts, advocate for policy changes, and raise awareness. Together, we can ensure that the rights of all children, regardless of their circumstances, are protected.

Ceasefire negotiations continued as fears of an Iranian attack on Israel prompted France to advise its citizens against traveling to the area.

Mohammed al-Rayes, 61, described fleeing Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling in Nuseirat, central Gaza, while another resident, Laila Nasser, reported continuous shelling throughout the night. The recent bombardments in Gaza followed Israel’s announcement of strengthening air defenses and halting leave for combat units after an airstrike on Iran’s consulate building in Damascus. Iran accused Israel of the attack, escalating tensions further.

United States President Joe Biden warned of a potential significant attack on Israel by Iran and reaffirmed unwavering support for Israel. France cautioned its nationals against traveling to Iran, Israel, Lebanon, or the Palestinian territories, and Germany and Russia called for restraint. Talks for a ceasefire in Cairo have yet to yield results, with Israel accusing Hamas of rejecting a proposed plan.

Khan Yunis in southern Gaza an Israeli fighter jet struck a Hamas military compound and knocked down seven terrorists among which one of the terrorists killed was a commander in Hamas’s elite Nukhba force who took part in the massacre of Israelis in Gaza-area communities on October 7. The other forces in Khan Yunis dismantled weapons, seizing AK-47 rifle and RPG launchers.

The Israeli ground forces in the central Gaza have also recorded to kill approximately 20 terrorists, including several Nukhba force commanders. The soldiers spotted three armed terrorists advancing towards them and responded with live fire.

Believing the latest record, at least 1,200 people were killed in the Hamas attacks on Israel near the Gaza border on Oct 7. The victims held captive in Gaza by Hamas including the men, women, children, soldiers and foreigners is now believed to be 136.
The rescue operation continues and many other remain unaccounted for as Israeli authorities.

The sanctions aim to address issues such as the theft of Ukrainian grain, the acquisition of advanced military technology, and the identification of remaining revenue sources.

“The UK has today (Friday 19 May) announced a new wave of sanctions against Russia, targeting businesses and individuals connected to Russia’s capacity to fund and wage the war,” read UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office press release. The 86 designations target individuals and organisations connected to Russia’s energy, metals, defence, transport, and financial sectors – ramping up pressure on Putin’s remaining revenue and attempts to use these sectors to support the military machine.
The UK is taking new action against Russia’s energy sector – building on the import bans of Russian coal, oil, and LNG – by introducing designations of 9 organisations connected to Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy company, Rosatom, which has been connected to Putin’s war effort.

“This includes UMATEX, which produces composite materials based on carbon fibre for Rosatom that could be used for military purposes, and TRINITI whose research and development into laser physics is directly funded by the Russian Federation’s State Defence Order. TRINITI’s lasers have been installed on tank chassis with the aim of dazzling the optics of aircraft and disrupting precision weapons,” added the release.

Designations have been imposed on Oleg Romanenko, a prominent official at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, for his involvement in collusion with the Russian government. Additionally, the Operating Organisation of Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, 13 members of the Gazprom-Neft board of directors, and 5 members of the Transneft board of directors have also been designated. Furthermore, Igor Altushkin, a billionaire oligarch who owns the Russian Copper Company, has been subjected to sanctions. Altushkin’s business, being the third largest copper producer in Russia, continues to hold significant importance in a sector that is strategically relevant to Putin’s military endeavors.

In a joint statement following two days of meetings in the resort town of Karuizawa in central Japan, top diplomats from the G7 countries renewed their call for third parties to “cease assistance to Russia’s war, or face severe costs.” The statement stated, “We will tighten up our coordination to stop and deal with third parties supplying Russia with weapons and continue to take action against those who materially support Russia’s war against Ukraine,” the communique read.

Top diplomats from several nations, such as Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, plus the European Union, have lashed out at a Russian threat to station nuclear weapons in Belarus as “unacceptable.”

These nations stated that Russia’s aggression against Ukraine is nothing more than a serious violation of international law, including the UN Charter. The G-7 leaders went on to say that Russia has to withdraw its forces from Ukraine immediately and unconditionally.

“We recommit today to supporting Ukraine for as long as it takes and to providing sustained security, economic, and institutional support to help Ukraine defend itself, secure its free and democratic future, and deter future Russian aggression,” it said.

Sachin Pilot declared during a press conference on Sunday that he will go on a one-day hunger strike on 11 April in protest of his own government. Pilot claimed that he urged Gehlot to address the accusations against the former CM Vasundhara Raje government but received no response.

“We all made those accusations against Vasundhara Ji’s government. As the then-president of the state party unit, I also made some charges. I oppose political retaliation, Sachin Pilot said.

“I think we should talk, and I wrote to Gehlot ji almost 1.5 years ago that it is time to probe the allegations that we levelled against the BJP government.

“The Congress ought to demonstrate to the people that there is no gap between our words and action,” Pilot said.

The first letter was written by me on 28, 2022. But we got no reply. Then, on 2 November 2022, I wrote once more. “I wrote that the public believed us and moved us from 21 seats to 100 seats.” He continued by saying that he wanted to take some action on these corruption allegations.

The Rajasthan government is not even using its agencies, while the Centre is abusing the ED and CBI to target the Congress leadership, Pilot said.

He went on to say that he wants this to come into the public domain. “The public and the Congress leaders should not think that there is a difference between our kathni and karni,” he said.

There has been a wave of new missiles launched from Russia into Ukraine on Saturday and at least 20 people have died in the city of Dnipro. Russia carried out three air raids, 57 missile attacks and 69 attacks from heavy weapon rocket salvo systems, Ukraine’s top military command says.

The strike at Dnipro hit the entrance of a nine-story building turning several floors into rubble. The number of people injured is around 73 including 14 children. Ukrainian officials said. This has been the worst attack in months.

At the scene of the strike, a sizable crowd gathered to see the rescue operation while others joined rescue personnel in their frantic hunt for survivors. Calls for help, human chains of volunteers removing debris, and torch beams penetrating dense clouds of dust and smoke were all present.

Source: Institute for the study of war

Zelensky stated in his speech that debris removal in Dnipro will go on all night long because “We are fighting for every person, every life.” According to authorities, 38 individuals have so far been evacuated from the building, including six children.

Since the apartment complex is some way from the closest power source, it is unclear why it was the target of such destruction. This may have been one of Russia’s less precise missiles or something shot down by Ukraine’s air defences, but on the surface, this seems a less probable explanation on a day when Russia looked bent, once again, on hitting Ukraine’s electricity system.

The most recent Russian strikes on Ukraine’s electrical infrastructure occurred two weeks ago. Regarding the energy infrastructure facilities damaged on Saturday, Zelensky stated that the Kharkiv and Kyiv areas were in the most severe condition.

</excerpt>

Union defence minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday said that India doesn’t believe in war but it will fight if war is forced upon. “We do not believe in war, but if it is forced upon us, we will fight. We are ensuring that the nation is protected from all threats. Our Armed Forces are ready and it is heartening to see that the BRO (Border Roads Organisation) is walking shoulder-to-shoulder with them,” said Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Siang.

He highlighted that the aim is to build a strong and self-reliant country which can deal with future challenges which may arise due to changing global scenario.

“The world is witnessing a number of conflicts today. India has always been against war. It is our policy. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi drew the world’s attention to that resolve when he said ‘this is not the era of war’,” said Singh.

The defence minister also emphasised the critical part the BRO is playing in enhancing national security by building infrastructure in border regions.

“Recently, our forces effectively countered the adversary in the Northern sector and dealt with the situation with bravery and promptness. This was made possible due to adequate infrastructural development in the region. This motivates us even more for the progress of far-flung areas,” he said.

The Siyom Bridge, which is crucial from a strategic perspective, was physically inaugurated during the event on Along-Yinkiong Road, while the other projects were virtually committed to the country. The Siyom Bridge spans the Siyom River in Arunachal Pradesh at a length of 100 metres and a class of 70 steel arch superstructure.

The Defence Minister occasionally also published a Compendium on New Technologies. In order to mitigate the effects of remote and hostile terrain with the adverse weather conditions, which unreasonably affect the quality of civil engineering works and meeting completion deadlines, it incorporates the most recent technologies used by the BRO in the construction of roads, bridges, airfields, and tunnel infrastructure.

Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh Pema Khandu, MP Arunachal East Tapir Gao, GOC-in-C Eastern Command Lieutenant General RP Kalita and GOC Spear Corps Lieutenant General RC Tiwari were among those who attended the event.

In his speech, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh referred to the projects as evidence of the Government’s and the BRO’s coordinated efforts to develop border regions so as to improve the operational readiness of the Armed Forces and assure the socioeconomic development of the remote areas.

He argued that connecting border regions and ensuring the development of their populations are key priorities for the government, which is led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock underlined that India is assuming G20 presidency at a difficult moment and said that the ongoing war in Ukraine has brought the whole world into a difficult situation which involves India’s energy supply.
Baerbock is in the national capital and while addressing a joint press conference with Indian External Minister S Jaishankar she said, “India is assuming global responsibility in this difficult moment. Responsibility for the most urgent task of our time. We have the global impact of the brutal war of aggression of Russia against Ukraine. An illegal war has brought the whole world into a difficult situation and it has also created difficulty for your country when it comes to energy supply and fertilizers.”
“I’m delighted that India during its G20 presidency with the motto ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ is putting a special focus on containing the climate crisis. Thus highlighting our common responsibility when it comes to climate change,” she added.
“I’m delighted that India during its G20 presidency with the motto ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ is putting a special focus on containing the climate crisis. Thus highlighting our common responsibility when it comes to climate change,” she added.
Today, aishankar greeted the German Foreign Minister as she began a two-day visit to India.
Earlier, the German Foreign Minister praised India for its positive contribution to the recently finished G20 conference in Bali and gave New Delhi credit for the G20’s more definite stance on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
In advance of her travel to New Delhi, she said these things.
“I’m visiting India just days after it assumed the G20 presidency during the final month of Germany’s G7 chairmanship. My speeches will thus also be centred on the two most pressing issues of our time: resolving the climate disaster and preserving the international system of laws.

The 63 glorious years of service to the nation has been completed by the Headquarters Eastern Air Command on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Air Marshal SP Dharkar, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Air Command laid the wreath at the War Memorial.

Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, a public relation officer with Defence Guwahati said, “The Eastern Air Command was born in combat and has grown through battles and is one of the lethal arms of the Indian Air Force which controls air operations over a vast area that straddles 11 states. It includes the seven northeastern states, Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, and parts of Orissa and Jharkhand covering over three lakh square kilometers.”

“The Eastern Air Command also controls the air space over 6300 Km long international boundary with China, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh,” Rawat said.

Moreover, in 1962, 1965, and 1971 wars Command participated and it has impressively contributed towards the evacuation of victims of natural calamities like floods, landslides, and earthquakes over the years.

However, to meet the changed security scenario several new inductions have taken place in this Command

The war in Ukraine was harshly denounced and noted to be escalating economic fragilities in a draught proclamation by the leaders of the Group of 20 (G20) major economies that were seen by Reuters on Tuesday.

There were other views and different assessments of the situation and sanctions,” said the draft declaration, which was confirmed by a European diplomat.

The G20 nations have not yet ratified the 16-page text.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has cast a shadow over the meeting, which the host nation Indonesia and other nations have urged should be centred on the world economy.

The proposed declaration stated, “We realise that security challenges can have substantial ramifications for the global economy, but that the G20 is not the platform to tackle security matters.”

Russia’s foreign ministry on Sunday said the G20 was not the place where security issues and should instead prioritise the world’s economic challenges, ahead of a meeting expected to be dominated by the war.

The G20 central banks were reportedly keeping an eye on inflationary pressures and adjusting monetary policy as necessary, according to the draught agreement.

Volodymyr Zelenskiy, the president of Ukraine, encouraged peers at the summit earlier on Tuesday to take more initiative and implement a peace plan he has presented to end Russia’s conflict in his nation.

President Vladimir Putin was not present at the meeting on behalf of Russia, which is said to be engaged in a special military operation in Ukraine by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Since the war broke out between Ukraine and Russia, it’s the very first time that, on Thursday, Russia made a statement about Indian students who left Ukraine.

In the statement, Russia said Indian students who left Ukraine without completing their education can continue in Russia as both countries’ syllabus is the same.

Due to war between the two countries, thousands of Indian students left the country hanging their future on a cliff.

“As far as students are concerned, students keep going to Russia for studies. It is an upward trend. More and more students are applying for scholarships in Russia,” the Russian diplomat said.

Meanwhile, Avdeev also appreciated EAM S Jaishankar’s remark about Russian oil imports.

“The Indian government is a responsible govt and it has to look after the interests of Indian consumers.”

Since the beginning of this year, the exports in Russian oil have increased from 2 to 22 pc. It is a very dramatic increase and now Russia has displaced Iraq and Saudi Arabia as leading producers of oil,” Oleg Avdeev said.

Earlier on Tuesday, EAM Jaishankar talked about the relationship between India and Russia and said, “India’s relationship with Russia has worked to its advantage and New Delhi would like to keep that going.”

Notably, on 24 February, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine, after which Moscow recognized Ukraine’s breakaway regions – Donetsk and Luhansk-as independent entities.

US President Joe Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre said US President Joe Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre said “The White House “strongly condemns Russia’s missile strikes today,”. She further said that the US will continue to aid the people of Ukraine, as she referred to a new USD 725m military aid package announced for Ukraine last Friday.

More desperate and reprehensible Russian attacks this morning against civilians and civilian infrastructure. We admire the strength and resilience of the Ukrainian people. We will stand with you for as long as it takes,” the US embassy in Ukraine tweeted.

On Monday, at least three explosions were heard in Kyiv at around 6.45 am (local time). One of the blasts was in the Shevchenkivskyi district in the centre of the Ukrainian capital. In order to tackle the situation, emergency services have been sent on-site. Kyiv says Moscow has used Iranian-supplied drones in the strikes.

The war between Russia and Ukraine has only escalated after a truck recently exploded on the Crimea road bridge, causing seven fuel tanks of a train heading to the Crimean Peninsula to catch fire. Three people were killed in the blast, which also led to the partial collapse of two spans of the road bridge.

Former US president Donald Trump has warned of the danger of escalation and nuclear weapons. Trump called for an immediate and “peaceful end” to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The war started following Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February.

Trump was addressing a “Save America” rally in the US state of Nevada on Saturday. He warned of the dangers of nuclear weapons.” Nothing would be left of our earth all because ignorant people didn’t have a clue”, he said.

“There won’t be anything left of our planet if we don’t urge the quick negotiation of a peaceful conclusion to the war in Ukraine,” Donald Trump continued.

Earlier US President Joe Biden warned of the risk of a nuclear “Armageddon” for the first time in 60 years. This was followed by Trump’s remarks.

About the nuclear standoff that occurred sixty years ago as a result of the Soviet Union stationing missiles in Cuba within striking distance of the US, Joe Biden had said, “For the first time since the Cuban missile crisis, we have a direct threat from the use of nuclear weapons if things continue down the path they are going.”

The world has “not faced the danger of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis,” according to Joe Biden.

The White House later stated in response to Biden’s terrifying statement that the president’s warning was not based on any new information suggesting that such nuclear use is near.

It has been twenty-three years since the Kargil war, fought in 1999 against the Pakistani infiltrators, which is a day for the Indians to hold their heads high.

This day is observed as the Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the soilders who fought outstandingly in the prodigious hardships and hysterical climatic conditions in the terrain of Ladakh’s Kargil region.

According to the official figures, as many as 527 soldiers of the Indian army lost their lives and another 1363 were said to be wounded after the war, which lasted for over 60 days.

The Indian heroes lived by the adage, “Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori.”

Here are a few of the heroes who made “operation Vijay” successful.

Lieutenant Balwaan Singh

Lieutenant Balwan Singh, also referred to as “the Tiger of Tiger Hill,” was in charge of retaking Tiger Hill. At age 25, he led the Ghatak platoon’s soldiers up the hill in a 12-hour trek via a dangerous, steep path. The attack caught the adversary off guard because India was not expected to pursue such a challenging approach. He raised the Indian flag on Tiger Hill, and for his valour he was later given the Mahavir Chakra.

Captain Vikram Batra

Honoured as the “Tiger of the Drass,” Captain Vikram Batra died fighting the Pakistani troops at the age of 24. He received the highest wartime gallantry award, the Param Vir Chakra posthumously. The entire country showered him with love, titling him “Lion of the Kargil,” “The Kargil hero” and so on.

Naik Digendra Kumar

K. Digendra, General VP , was taken aback by Digendra Kumar’s strategy when he held a Sainik Darbar in Drass on June 2, 1990, following three unsuccessful attempts to recapture Tololing. The elevation of Tololing is 15,000 feet.

Grenadier Yogendra Singh Yadav

The youngest Param Vir Chakra laureate, Yogendra Singh Yadav, is the nation’s pride. Nayab Subedar Yogendra Singh along with his battalion captured Tololing Top on July 12, 1999, leaving behind 2 officers, 2 junior commissioned officers and 21 soldiers, martyred.

Lieutenant Manoj Kumar Pandey

Manoj Pandey was a soldier with the 1/11 Gorkha Rifles. His father claims that when he enlisted in the Indian Army, his only motivation was to get the highest gallantry honour, the Param Vir Chakra, which he eventually did. The late Gopichand Pandey, the late Captain Manoj Pandey’s father, remarked that the Kargil War was one of the toughest conflicts in history because it involved an adversary who had an edge due to elevation, but the Indian Army put up a valiant fight and recaptured our peaks. He declared, “I’m glad that my kid sacrificed his life for his nation and inspired many.”

Rifleman Sanjay Kumar

Sanjay Kumar served in a column during the Kargil conflict that was tasked with capturing the Flat Top of Point 4875 in the Mushkoh Valley. When the column was slowed down by automatic fire from one of the enemy bunkers, Kumar charged directly at them.

Lieutenant keishing Clifford Nongrum

With automatic fire, the enemy held Lt. Keishing Clifford Nongrum’s column at bay for approximately two hours. Despite this, he continued to fire grenades into it, killing six enemy soldiers without considering his own safety. Then, firing from the second location, he attempted to steal the enemy’s universal machine gun.

Major Vivek Gupta

When the 2 Rajputana Rifles launched a battalion attack on Tololing Top in the Drass Sector on June 13, 1999, Vivek Gupta was in charge of the leading Charlie Company at the time. He was able to close in on the enemy thanks to Major Vivek Gupta’s inspirational leadership, despite the enemy firing heavy artillery and automatic weapons.

Captain N kemguruse

N Kenguruse led the Ghatak Platoon during Operation Vijay’s strike on Area Black Rock in the Drass Sector on the evening of June 28, 1999. He assumed responsibility for the risky commando mission that involved attacking a strategically placed enemy machine gun post on a cliff face that was severely impeding all routes to the Battalion’s primary goal.

Major Saurabh Kalia

Saurabh Kalia and five other soldiers were captured alive while on a routine patrol of the Bajrang Post in the Kaksar sector of the untamed, treeless mountains. They were surrounded by a platoon of Pakistani rangers. The patrol had left no traces behind. They were all subjected to 24 days of torture by Pakistani Army troops, after which the army turned over their mangled bodies.

Every Indian holds their head high in pride as they commemorate the incredible triumph and express their sorrow for the lives lost today on the anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas.
