On Thursday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu narrowly avoided a potential accident during his inspection of flood-affected Madhuranagar in Vijayawada. While walking near a railway track to examine a waterlogged stream, a train suddenly approached from the opposite direction. Naidu, along with his officials and security personnel, had to quickly move out of the train’s path. The team resumed their inspection once the train had passed without further issues.

Inspection Efforts

Despite the close call, Naidu continued his efforts to manage the flood relief work. His inspections included navigating through floodwaters and using boats and bulldozers to assess the situation. On Thursday, he was seen surveying a swollen rivulet from a railway bridge in Vijayawada. As a train sped by, the 74-year-old CM remained composed, standing close to the train’s path on a narrow platform.

Public Reaction

The CM’s fieldwork received a positive response from passengers on the speeding train, who cheered for Naidu. This incident is part of his broader effort to personally oversee the relief operations following severe torrential rains and floods in the area.

A devastating downpour in Andhra Pradesh has affected nearly 4.5 lakh people and claimed at least 17 lives. Torrential rains and subsequent floods have paralysed life in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. In one notable incident, a video emerged showing two men carrying a baby in a crate through neck-deep floodwaters in Singh Nagar, Vijayawada. The scene drew comparisons to the birth of the Hindu deity Lord Krishna, with one user on X commenting, “Jai Shri Krishna of new era.”

In response to the crisis, 26 NDRF teams and 21 SDRF teams have been deployed for rescue operations. The NTR district alone has 12 SDRF and 22 NDRF teams working on the ground, with 77 shelters opened, 14,160 people rehabilitated, and 77 health camps set up for the flood victims.

Vijayawada, the hardest-hit area, is submerged due to breaches in the Budameru Vagu river, also known as the ‘Sorrow of Vijayawada.’ This has impacted 32 wards and affected 2.76 lakh people. Other severely affected districts include NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Eluru, Palnadu, Bapatla, and Prakasam, with significant crop damage reported.

Over 100 trains have been cancelled, and many others have been diverted due to waterlogging on tracks. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has been actively involved in managing the situation. He conducted a review at the Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority office and visited flood-affected areas to oversee relief efforts. In a post on X, he stated, “I visited the flood-affected areas in Vijayawada on the second day. I have personally supervised the assistance provided to the affected people. I assured them. The power boats sent by the Center and the arrangements made by the state government have increased the speed of relief operations. Public safety is our responsibility. All efforts are being made to bring people out of this unexpected calamity as soon as possible. I wish the affected people to be brave.”

Andhra Pradesh: Landslide Hits Vijayawada, 1 Dead, 4 Injured

Heavy rainfall disrupted life in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, causing significant damage and leading to a landslide in Vijayawada. The incident resulted in one fatality, with four others injured. Authorities promptly initiated a rescue operation upon receiving information, and the injured individuals were taken to a hospital for treatment. Several people are feared trapped under the debris of a house damaged by the landslide.

The district administration declared a holiday for schools on Saturday in response to the heavy rain. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted heavy to very heavy rainfall across various parts of Andhra Pradesh, with a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal intensifying into a depression.

A Met Department official stated, “Continuous light to moderate rains would prevail. Heavy to very heavy rains are most likely today over many districts of Andhra Pradesh.” The well-marked low-pressure area over the west-central and adjacent northwest Bay of Bengal off the coast of north Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha had moved west-northwestwards and intensified into a depression by 5:30 am on Saturday.

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director R Kurmanadh indicated that parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh are expected to receive heavy rainfall. In light of the heavy rainfall warning, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu ordered all departments to remain on high alert.

Heavy Rainfall in Vijayawada Causes Waterlogging, Disrupts Daily Life

Heavy rainfall lashed Vijayawada district on Saturday causing waterlogging in some areas and making it difficult for commuters to go about their daily lives.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) earlier predicted thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds in parts of Andhra Pradesh for five days between May 23 and 27.
“Rainfall is likely in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) and Rayalaseema, while heavy rains are predicted in some places in NCAP,” said the weather department.
Gusty winds with speeds reaching up to 50 km per hour (mph) are expected, said the weather department in a press release.
The India Meteorological Department on Friday issued an orange alert for rainfall in West Bengal and forecast that cyclonic storms will hit the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh on May 26.
This severe cyclone is named Cyclone Remal.
In a press release, on Friday, the IMD department said, “The depression over the central Bay of Bengal has moved towards the northeast with a speed of 20 kmph during the past three hours. It is very likely to continue to move north-eastward and intensify further into a cyclonic storm over the east-central Bay of Bengal by May 25.”
“Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 25 and hit the coasts of West Bengal and Bangladesh between Sagar Island and Khepupara at around 6 pm on May 26,” it added.
Apart from West Bengal, the IMD has forecast moderate rainfall in various districts of Kerala.

170 K ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’ built in country: Mandaviya

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya on Friday said that a total of 1,70,000 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centres (AB-HWCs), rechristened as ‘Ayushman Arogya Mandir’, have been created in the country.
The Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare was speaking after laying the foundation stone for two critical care blocks and BSL-3 labs in Vijayawada under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM) scheme.

Mandaviya also inaugurated seven Integrated Public Health Laboratory (IPHL) labs at Old Government General Hospital.
The pan-India health infrastructure strengthening scheme–PM ABHIM–was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in October 2021. It aims to produce robust outcomes in Public Health leapfrogging India to one of the most advanced countries in the world in terms of management of Public Health outbreaks.

Speaking on the occasion, the Health Minister said that PM Modi looked at the health sector with a holistic approach.
“If a society is healthy, it ushers the country into a prosperous nation. And therefore, PM Modi looked at the health sector with a holistic approach,” Mandaviya said.

“There was a time when some leaders would come and say to build a hospital in their respective constituencies, leading to inequalities for many parts of the country where the health infrastructure could not be created. PM Modi said this will not happen, and health should be accessible and affordable for all. Therefore, the government started working in the health sector with a holistic approach. The result was that today, 1,70,000 Ayushman Arogya Mandir, widely known as Primary Health and Wellness Centres, have been built in the country,” he said.

The Union Health Minister said that today there is one Ayushman Arogya Mandir per five to six thousand people. “Ten types of testing can be done there,” he said.
Meanwhile, as per the government, the development of critical Care Hospital Blocks in 602 districts as proposed under the PM-ABHIM scheme, shall make such districts self-sufficient, to a large extent, in providing comprehensive treatment for infectious diseases without disruption to the other essential health services and also augment the critical care capacities in the public health facilities.

TDP leaders and supporters hold protest against Chandrababu Naidu’s arrest in Andhra’s Amravati

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders and supporters staged a protest against the arrest of former chief minister and party leader N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday in Amravati, ahead of the start of the assembly session in Andhra Pradesh. Undavalli Sridevi, a former YSRCP MLA, joined the demonstration and declared that we were protesting Chandrababu Naidu’s unlawful arrest because there was no evidence against him.

“We are going to protest on the illegal arrest of Chandrababu Naidu…He has 40 years of political experience. He has done nothing and this is a bogus case…Being an independent MLA, I will support him along with TDP because there is no evidence…I am just questioning the present government and CID Additional DG N Sanjay…We are going for a cross-petition…the truth will prevail,” Undavalli Sridevi said.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the Andhra Pradesh High Court adjourned the bail petition of Naidu to September 21.

The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) court in Vijayawada ordered Naidu to be held in judicial custody for 14 days, from September 10 until September 23, in connection with the case. According to the officials, the case in which Naidu was detained involves the creation of clusters of Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in the state of Andhra Pradesh, with a total estimated project value of Rs 3300 crore.

The agency officials also claimed that the alleged fraud has caused a huge loss to the state government in excess of Rs 300 crore.

Vijayawada: 3-day Shakambari Festival begins at Kanaka Durga temple

Digi Yatra to be implemented at Kolkata, Pune, Vijayawada airports

After the successful implementation of Digi Yatra at Varanasi airport, the Union government is implementing Digi Yatra at Kolkata, Pune, and Vijayawada airports say Airports Authority of India Chairman Sanjeev Kumar on Thursday.

On the occasion of the 74th Republic Day at Delhi’s AAI-ATC (Air Traffic Control) services building, the AAI chairman said, “Digi Yatra is an important step that we have been able to implement after 3-4 years of hard work. The AAI had been effectively involved under the ministry and with the help of private operators, we have made an ecosystem ready where software is made separately and hardware is kept at the airport so that passengers could have a faceless identification and travel faster.”

“Whenever passengers come to the airport, they go through the security check at first, then at check-in and inside another security check at the boarding gate. At these places, they had to show their IDs and boarding cards. Digi Yatra has taken a huge step in implementing a seamless, paperless journey without these documents,” the chairman said.

“We are happy to have been able to implement this at Varanasi airport and many passengers have been able to use it,” the chairman stated.

“More than 25-30 percent of passengers have been using this service at Varanasi airport,” Kumar said.

Kumar further stated, “We request passengers who haven’t used to use it, to use this hassle-free and paperless travel.”

However, Digi Yatra helps passengers to envisage various checkpoints at the airports through paperless and contactless processing. Using Aadhaar-based validation can be used by one-time registration on the Digi Yatra app.

Fake income tax officer held in Vijayawada

A 27-year-old man who was posing as an Income Tax officer has been arrested on Monday in Vijaywada. The arrested accused has been identified as Tirumala Reddy from Guntur. Vijayawada police arrest 3 men for raping beggar woman

Three men have been arrested by the Vijayawada police on Tuesday for allegedly gangraping a woman beggar. Meanwhile, for the treatment, the woman has been shifted to a hospital for treatment. 10 students fall ill due to chlorine gas leakage in swimming pool

In a municipal swimming pool in Vijayawada district of Andhra Pradesh, more than ten students aged between 8 to 14 years fell ill.

Following chlorine gas leakage all the students get ill and an accident took place on Wednesday in Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Swimming Pool.

Meanwhile, the incident took place when students were practicing in the swimming pool.

Due to chlorine leakage in the pool children are seriously ill. All the students were preparing for the competitions to be held in Eluru on December 11.

Rambabu, the Swimming pool academy supervisor said, “The incident happened at around 8:30 pm on Wednesday night. Some of the swimmers requested us to give them permission for swimming as they are having a competition on December 11. We told them to get permission from the municipal commissioner and they said that have permission.”

Moreover, to a government hospital, all ten sick children were shifted and in critical condition, a child was shifted to a private hospital.

However, all students are stable now.

Furthermore, the student’s parents said due to improper chlorine system maintenance and management the incident took place.

“Due to the leakage of chlorine gas in the swimming pool, 10 to 12 students aged between 8-14 years fell ill. We took them to a government hospital. The gas leakage happened due to old equipment and an old gas cylinder. It was controlled later. All students are stable now. One of our staff also fell ill in this incident along with students,” Rambabu said.

“I am only the person who records the data of swimmers and the rest are monitored by DFO and municipal corporation officials. The swimming pool is scheduled up to 8 but with the request of the swimmers, it was up to 8:30 pm. We informed the officials about the incident. They had reached the hospital and given assurance to their parents,” Rambabu said.
