The woman sustained severe injuries and is now under treatment; police have arrested the accused.
</excerpt>

In a disturbing case from Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district, a man allegedly bit off his wife’s nose after catching her with another man. The brutal assault left the 25-year-old woman, identified as Pooja, severely injured.

According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday evening when Pooja went to meet her lover, a resident of the same village. Her husband, Ram Khilawan, reportedly overheard their phone conversation and followed her. A confrontation ensued at the lover’s house, during which Ram Khilawan, in a fit of rage, bit off Pooja’s nose.

“She was initially taken to the district hospital but later referred to a medical college in Lucknow for better treatment,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Kumar. He confirmed that police registered a case based on Pooja’s complaint and took Ram Khilawan into custody. Legal proceedings are underway.

Similar Shocking Case in West Bengal

In an unrelated incident earlier this year, a man in West Bengal’s Nadia district bit off his wife’s nose for a disturbingly different reason, he found it “too attractive.”

The attack happened around 3 AM on May 2, sending shockwaves through the neighborhood. Locals rushed to help after hearing the screams of the victim, Madhu Khatun, who emerged from her house bleeding profusely.

Both cases have sparked outrage and raised serious concerns over rising instances of domestic violence in the region.

This familial link highlights the unlikely India-Iran connection that helped shape Iran’s theocratic regime and political ideology.
</excerpt>

New speculation has arisen after news broke that U.S. President Donald Trump purportedly thwarted an Israeli plan to kill Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. These are just days after an Israeli airstrike killed a senior commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). As tensions rise, a burning question now takes center stage: who would rule Iran if Khamenei were dead?

While Iran’s political system is layered and complex, one thing appears almost certain, Khamenei’s son is unlikely to inherit the leadership.

Why Mojtaba Khamenei Won’t Be Supreme Leader

A recent BBC Persian survey of 30 Iranian scholars and analysts showed that many suspect Khamenei’s second son, Mojtaba, is being positioned as his successor. However, Iran’s constitutional and ideological framework makes hereditary leadership nearly impossible.

Succession within the family is universally considered ‘un-Islamic’ in Iran. This was the opinion espoused by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the mastermind of Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. Khomeini condemned autocratic rule by family, comparing it to monarchy, something the revolution had a strong aversion to.

His opinions are greatly documented in Sahifeyeh Imam Khomeini, a 21-volume book of speeches, writings, and correspondence of the Ayatollah.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who took over from Khomeini in 1989, has reiterated comparable opinions, openly rejecting family-based governance in an Islamic republic.

Who Was Ayatollah Khomeini?

In Iran, the legacy of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini is strongly rooted. His image is found on money, in schools, and throughout public areas. He was the leader who toppled the Shah’s regime in 1979 and reformed Iran as a religious theocracy.

The CIA, in a 1983 report, acknowledged his pivotal role in the revolution, stating it might not have occurred without his leadership. “Islam is politics,” he famously said, asserting that religion could not be separated from governance.

Khomeini’s ideology and religious foundation were strongly influenced by his grandfather, Syed Ahmad Musavi Hindi—whose roots trace back to Barabanki, a small town in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The Uttar Pradesh Connection

Khomeini’s familial origins stretch to the Indian subcontinent. His grandfather, Ahmad Hindi, was born in the early 1800s near Barabanki, roughly 30 kilometers from Lucknow. At the time, British colonial rule was rising amid the Mughal Empire’s decline.

Ahmad belonged to a generation of intellectuals pushing for Islamic revivalism. He ultimately departed India to proceed to Najaf, Iraq (which was then regarded as Persia), in 1830 to pay respects to the Tomb of Ali. He settled in Khomeyn, Iran, four years later, and constructed a house where he started a family.

According to BBC journalist Baqer Moin, Ahmad chose the name ‘Hindi’ to honor his Indian roots. He married three times and fathered five children, including Mostafa, Khomeini’s father. Ahmad died in 1869 and was buried in Karbala. His legacy of faith and commitment would later influence Khomeini’s life and political path.

Legacy That Shaped a Nation

Though Ahmad Hindi passed away decades before Khomeini’s birth in 1902, his ideological imprint was passed through generations. Khomeini inherited a deep sense of religious responsibility and political purpose, one that would go on to define the Islamic Republic of Iran.

This lesser-known connection to Uttar Pradesh sheds light on how global histories intertwine and how one man’s journey from a small Indian town eventually helped shape modern Iran.

</excerpt>

Lightning strikes killed at least 25 people in 14 districts of Uttar Pradesh between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The state’s relief commissioner’s office confirmed these deaths and shared detailed district-wise data.

District-Wise Deaths Reported

Prayagraj recorded the most deaths with five people killed. Jaunpur followed with four. Meanwhile, Lalitpur, Gorakhpur, Bareilly, and Bijnor each reported two deaths. One death occurred in each of these districts: Lucknow, Kanpur Dehat, Kushinagar, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Sambhal, Jhansi, and Jalaun.

CM Yogi Adityanath Orders Relief and Compensation

Soon after the incident, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath issued strict instructions to officials. He told them to begin immediate relief work in the storm-affected areas.

He also directed district officers to visit the villages, meet the victims’ families, and assess all damages. “The injured should be given proper treatment,” he said.

Moreover, the Chief Minister asked authorities to inspect farmland loss and submit damage reports to the state government so necessary action can follow.

Families Wiped Out in Prayagraj

The tragedy struck hardest in Prayagraj and neighboring areas. Officials reported 17 deaths and six injuries in villages across Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Basti, and Jaunpur.

One of the worst-hit villages was Sonbarsa in Prayagraj. There, lightning killed a couple and their two small daughters. According to officials, 35-year-old Virendra Banvasi and his wife Parvati, 32, were asleep in their hut with daughters Radha (3) and Karishma (2) when lightning struck. All four died instantly. Their elder daughters, Son Kumari (10) and Anchal (8), survived because they were staying with their grandparents that night.

In a separate case in Kalyanpur village, lightning killed Akshay Kumar, 29, on the spot. His wife, Kusum (27), received serious burns.

Officials Visit Affected Villages and Offer Help

Bara SDM Sandeep Tiwari, along with tehsildar Ganesh Kumar and other revenue officers, visited Sonbarsa and Kalyanpur to meet the victims’ families.

Tiwari assured the families that “The families of the deceased will be given ₹3 lakh each from the Natural Disaster Fund.” He further said, “The deceased couple’s two daughters will be provided scholarships,” and added that the Sonbarsa family would also receive a house.

More Lives Lost in Other Parts of the State

The lightning also caused several deaths in other districts. In Bansi town (Siddharthnagar), four people were killed. In Bhar Pahi village near Gorakhpur, three children were struck. Khushbu (12) died on the spot, while Jyoti (11) and Ajay (10) were seriously hurt and taken to BRD Medical College.

In Kushinagar, lightning injured 30-year-old Tara Devi while she was returning from her farm.

Siddharthnagar witnessed more deaths. Cloth trader Shah Jamal (27) and Kallu alias Rizwan (33) were killed. Two others—vegetable vendor Sateesh Yadav (27) and Irshad Ahmad (25)—also died. Irshad’s friend Mahboob was badly burnt.

Jaunpur Sees Five Deaths in Separate Incidents

In Jaunpur district, lightning killed five people in three different places: Kashidaspur, Kahjura, and Kanehra. The dead included two brothersAnsh (12) and Ashu (10)—and their neighbor Ayush (12), all from Kashidaspur.

A 14-year-old girl named Apa died in Khajuran village under Badalpur police limits, while 25-year-old Brijesh from Karnehua village also lost his life.

Meanwhile, a powerful storm hit Chandwak, uprooting trees and electricity poles. This plunged the area into darkness.

</excerpt>

A man in India’s Uttar Pradesh (UP) state allegedly received a massive surprise last month when his bank account reflected a higher balance than the net value of the world’s wealthiest man, Elon Musk.

The Startling Discovery in Hathras Village

Ajit sat at home in a village in the Hathras district on April 25 when he observed that his bank balance reflected 36 digits, as per an NDTV report. The episode left Ajit stunned.

A day prior to the tragic day, his account was charged twice, initially for ₹1,800 and later again for ₹1,400. Both the transactions occurred on the same date. But what occurred on the next day was the actual surprise, not only for Ajit and his family but for the whole population of his remote village. His bank balance reflected a huge figure of ₹1,00,13,56,00,00,01,39,54,21,00,23,56,00,00,01,39,542.

Joy Turns to Concern for Man residing in UP

While Ajit’s relatives were initially delighted with having received so much money, eventually they all dreaded the same: that crooks or scammers had stolen his account. Based on the NDTV report, Ajit had called the bank to ask what happened. The bank informed him that the credit had been caused by a technical problem that started in one of the bank branches in Jammu and Kashmir. He approached the cops after the same balance continued to show up. At the behest of the police, Ajit approached the Uttar Pradesh Cyber Crime department.

The cybercrime department is currently investigating the case. Ajit’s bank account has been frozen temporarily, as per the report. This has added to his concerns. For a brief moment, the figures displayed in his account made him appear wealthier than Elon Musk. Musk is the officially richest man in the world and the head of Tesla and SpaceX.

Comparing Fortunes: Ajit vs. Elon Musk

In comparison, Musk’s entire net value in approximate worth amounts to ₹30,700,000,000,000, as per the Bloomberg billionaire index. That is 14 digits, far off from what Ajit’s bank account showed on that ill-fated day.

Frustrated by failed transformers and official inaction, several women have left their marital homes, insisting they’ll only return when electricity is reliably restored.
</excerpt>

Kakor Gahana Mohalla, within the Devchandpur Ward of Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur district, has come under public scrutiny in recent times, no, not for run-of-the-mill civic issues, but for routine power outages that have had a deep impact on daily life. The constant malfunction of equipment of the area’s single transformer has led to huge distress among the residents, particularly over the last six months.

The frequent power cuts, combined with scorching summer temperatures, have caused a peculiar social crisis. Some women from the area have decided to desert their matrimonial homes, dictating a precise condition for their return: a reliable and continuous supply of electricity. This bizarre protest has rocked household life and sharpened community tensions.

Daily Arguments, Suffocating Heat

One of the most discussed cases is that of Shashi Maurya’s wife, Ranju Devi. She quit her husband’s residence and went back to her parents in Sungulpur Madiyahun. Councillor Maurya openly confessed, “Daily arguments about the power shortage and suffocating heat led to her departure.”

In a similar case, two years-married Raj Kumar said his wife recently left home, vowing she wouldn’t return until electricity was restored on a proper basis. “She told distinctly she will return only when the electricity problem is solved,” he said.

At the core of the problem is a malfunctioning 100 KV transformer, repeatedly collapsing due to the weight of overload. Electricity in the region is supplied through the Devkali sub-centre under Sarai Khwaja. Despite several complaints made to authorities and even letters written to the Minister of State Girish Chandra Yadav, no long-term solution has been reached yet.

This issue is exacerbated, according to the staff in the electricity department, by an ongoing fault in one of the transformer’s phases. Despite numerous repairs having been made, relief comes only to last briefly as the transformer will soon burn out afterward.

What started as an infrastructural issue has now turned into a full-blown social issue. Power shortages are no longer merely a nuisance—they are tearing marriages apart, breaking up families, and growing public ire. Unless something is done immediately, this power crisis can continue to fray the social fabric of the community.

He also assured the public that the police were fully ready. “UP Police is alert, equipped with resources, and fully prepared to ensure the safety of every citizen of the state. Jai Hind!”

Early Wednesday, Indian forces used missile strikes to hit nine terror-related targets. These included Bahawalpur, the base of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), and Muridke, home to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). Both locations are situated in Pakistan’s Punjab province.

Operation follows deadly Pahalgam attack

These strikes were launched in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. Indian officials called the attack “barbaric” and promised to respond strongly.

MoD says India acted with restraint

In its statement, the Ministry of Defence stressed that India’s action was both calculated and limited in scope. “Our actions have been focused, measured and non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani military facilities have been targeted.”

It added that the aim was to hit only terrorist infrastructure and not provoke a larger conflict. “India has demonstrated considerable restraint in the selection of targets and the method of execution.”

Terror group headquarters destroyed

Among the nine terror sites destroyed were major facilities linked to JeM and LeT, two groups responsible for multiple attacks on Indian soil. Bahawalpur, the JeM stronghold, and Muridke, LeT’s key training base, were the main targets.

India stands firm on accountability

The government has repeated its resolve to hold terrorists accountable. “We are living up to the commitment that those responsible for this attack will be held accountable,” the Defence Ministry said.

With the alert in place and Indian forces on high readiness, security agencies across India — especially in border states like Uttar Pradesh — are on heightened vigil. Coordination between state police and the military has intensified to prevent any retaliatory attacks.

</excerpt>

In a notable breakthrough for India’s defense readiness, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will carry out take-off and landing rehearsals on Uttar Pradesh’s Ganga Expressway tomorrow. This exercise, which has intrigued defense hobbyists and civilians alike, will be a decisive trial of the IAF’s capacity to undertake operations from non-traditional airstrips, presenting the nation’s increasingly enhanced capabilities in rapid mobilization and defense strategies.

The Indian Air Force (IAF) will conduct drills on May 2, 2025, involving fighter jet take-offs and landings on a section of the newly constructed Ganga Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. This marks a significant step in building India’s defense infrastructure and enabling its armed forces to operate from various locations, including those not typically used as airstrips.

Strategic Significance of the Exercise

The government planned the Ganga Expressway through Uttar Pradesh to ensure quicker movement within the state. Choosing it for high-level drills highlights the expressway’s growing significance as a potential strategic asset. If there’s a war or emergency situation, being able to launch and recover fighter aircraft from a national expressway would give the IAF more flexibility in reacting to threat situations.

Though information on the specific aircraft being used in the exercise is classified, the exercise is likely to incorporate a variety of fighter planes and perhaps transport planes, replicating scenarios of real combat and emergency operations. The exercises are crucial to enable Indian defense forces to respond promptly to changing situations and utilize non-conventional locations as bases of operation.

Public and Defense Community Reactions on IAF

The IAF’s decision to hold these exercises is just as India’s defense policy is shifting to address the needs of a shifting geopolitical order. Defense experts have welcomed the initiative as a visionary step in military preparedness. Being able to take off and land from places other than traditional runways can prove to be the difference between life and death in situations of increased tension or conflict.

Public interest is palpable as the IAF continues to show off its prowess and intentions to ensure national security. The drills scheduled for tomorrow will further raise the stakes for India’s defense capabilities and reiterate the need to modernize the country’s infrastructure to facilitate military operations.

The husband filed a complaint, prompting a police investigation and widespread online outrage over gender laws.
</excerpt>

A run-of-the-mill argument between a married couple in Uttar Pradesh’s Maharajganj district took the form of a shocking standoff when the wife reportedly threatened to kill her husband or frame him in a dowry case. The police have initiated an inquiry based on the complaint filed by the woman’s husband.

The couple, married in June 2022, allegedly faced problems from the outset. According to the husband’s statement, his wife persistently avoided any physical intimacy, causing him emotional distress. She also frequently returned to her parents’ home in Sant Kabir Nagar district, and in November 2024, left again this time without notifying him.

Pregnancy Shocks Husband

It was not until February 2025 that the husband called his wife and asked her to return. In April, things turned dramatic when the woman felt a pain in her abdomen and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors there confirmed that she was 14 weeks pregnant. The husband, shocked, consulted several medical experts, all of whom reported the same outcome.

When questioned, the woman reportedly conceded the pregnancy to be the result of an affair with ‘someone else’. She then reportedly threatened her husband that if he did not accept her and the child, she would either ‘kill him or falsely implicate him in a dowry case’.

Maharajganj authorities have confirmed that a formal case has been filed and legal action is under way. The police are probing the allegations and the situation behind the threats.

How Social Media Responded

The incident generated outrage on the internet, with many users calling for changes to current legislation. One user posted, “Now is the time for gender equality law where else can innocent people turn? Scrap gender-biased laws and bring in gender-neutral legislation to empower all citizens, regardless of gender.”

Others noted the potential legal requirements the husband could be required to fulfill despite the circumstances. “The husband should just accept his fate, reconcile with his wife, and raise the child—because legally, he may have no other choice in India,” another user said.

A third user provided a scathing analogy: “But the court will tell you it’s yours. Such as if someone else is driving your car & they get in an accident, then you are responsible because you are the LEGAL owner of the car…like here too you are LEGAL HUSBAND so it’s yours.”

A Similar Case

This is close on the heels of yet another shocking report from Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, in which a woman threatened to kill her husband when he protested against her extramarital affair. She reportedly brought up the case of the notoriety involving the Meerut murder case and threatened her husband that he could suffer the same horrific fate.

Police intervened after heated altercations, but she refused to return, insisting on staying with her brother-in-law.
</excerpt>

A shocking case of an illicit love affair has emerged from Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, where a woman abandoned societal norms and chose to live with her elder sister’s husband. The incident has led to intense family drama and police intervention.

Love Affair Unfolds in Mathura

The story began when a young woman from Karnal married a man from Nauhjheel village 12 years ago. The couple had two children and were leading a seemingly normal life. Five years later, her younger sister also got married and had two children of her own.

However, over time, an affair developed between the younger sister and her elder sister’s husband. Their secret relationship soon turned into an open defiance of societal expectations. Four months ago, they eloped, leaving the family searching for answers.

Shocking Discovery at a Brick Kiln

After months of searching, the family finally traced the couple to a brick kiln on Raipur Road, where they were working as laborers. When the younger sister’s brother tried to bring her back, she refused and declared her intention to stay with her brother-in-law.

“You are no longer my sister’s husband, but mine,” she reportedly told her brother. “We will live together regardless of what anyone says.”

This revelation enraged the brother, who confronted the brother-in-law, reminding him of his responsibilities toward his wife and children. A heated argument ensued, prompting the brick kiln accountant to alert the police.

Police Intervention and Family Fallout

Upon arriving at the police station, officers were taken aback by the unusual situation. Despite attempts to reason with the woman, she remained firm in her decision to stay with her brother-in-law. Meanwhile, her elder sister was left heartbroken by the betrayal.

Inspector Shailendra Singh confirmed that the woman was adamant about her choice, and authorities are now handling the altercation between the two brothers. The incident has sparked widespread debate on moral values and the consequences of forbidden love affairs.

The wedding, arranged by Sunil Kumar for his sister, saw a vibrant procession arriving from Jhujnu village in Jhajjar district. However, suspicions arose when the groom’s identity did not match previous encounters. The family had met a young man in his 20s from Panipat, but the man who arrived was noticeably older—around 40—and hailed from Jhajjar. This discrepancy quickly led to confusion and distress among the families present.

Dubious Explanation and Immediate Action

Middlemen responsible for the marriage arrangements claimed that the original groom had suffered a broken leg, necessitating a last-minute replacement. This explanation, however, did little to ease the concerns of the bride’s family. Outraged by the misleading information, the family immediately alerted the police.

Local authorities responded swiftly. The imposter groom, along with the middlemen involved, were taken into custody for questioning. Sunil Kumar, the bride’s brother, expressed his frustration, stating that the middlemen had deceived them, and confirmed that the marriage would not proceed under these circumstances.

Ongoing Investigation

Rajiv Singh, Station House Officer at Mill Area Police Station, confirmed that three individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident. An investigation is currently underway to determine how the deception occurred and to ensure that those responsible face appropriate legal action.

This unusual case not only disrupted a traditional baraat but also raised questions about the exploitation of trust in matrimonial arrangements, leaving the community and authorities determined to uncover the truth behind the deception.

According to DGP Prashant Kumar, Lazar Masih was planning a major attack (blast) during the Maha Kumbh and intended to flee to Portugal afterwards. Babbar Khalsa International had provided him with hand grenades.

The DGP stated that the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Punjab Police conducted a raid at 3:30 AM on Thursday and arrested Lazar Masih. He is a resident of Kurliyana village in Amritsar district, Punjab. He worked for Swaran Singh, also known as Jeevan Fauji, the head of BKI’s Germany-based module, and was in direct contact with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.

During interrogation at Kokhraj police station, the STF recovered 3 hand grenades, 2 detonators, 1 foreign-made pistol, 13 live cartridges, an Aadhaar card with a Ghaziabad address, and a mobile phone without a SIM card. </excerpt>

dreds of cases of land disputes between farmers of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh in Yamuna catchment area, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has directed the Surveyor General of India to study how the Yamuna River’s course has changed over time and its impact on the territories of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh (UP).

As per the orders, the study will be conducted with the help of revenue officials from both states to resolve a long-standing land dispute. Delivering the judgment a bench of Justice Sureshwar Thakur and Justice Vikas Suri stated that the survey would examine how the Yamuna’s shifting course has affected land ownership in both states. The court also ordered that boundary pillars be placed between Haryana and UP after updating the official land records.
The case involves landowners from Manjhawali village in Haryana, who claim ownership of 300 bighas of land. This land, located near the Yamuna River, became part of UP’s territory after the river naturally changed course. However, in 1984, as part of a settlement under the Dixit Award, UP’s revenue records for this land were transferred to Haryana. Despite this, Haryana’s revenue officials never updated their records, leading to confusion over land ownership.
The matter was brought to the court by the after the petitioners on account of a registered sale deed are in possession of land measuring 300 Bighas comprised in Khasra Nnumbers 93, 94, 95/2, 96, 98, 99 in village Manjhawali in Yamunanagar district of Haryana.

The disputed land was situated on the banks of river Yamuna originally belonged to Pandit Gauri Shankar. It was alleged that after the change of course of Yamuna river, the land in question fell into the jurisdiction of Tehsil Secundrabad, District Bulandshahr, of Uttar Pradesh. The said land was recorded for identity purposes as Chak Manjhavali in the revenue records of Uttar Pradesh by the Revenue Officers concerned, in the Khatauni for the year 1946. However, in 1984, Uttar Pradesh’s revenue records for the disputed land were handed over to Haryana as part of the Dixit Award settlement. But Haryana’s revenue officials never updated their records, leading to confusion over ownership, it was alleged.
The court observed that it cannot be definitively said whether the Yamuna River’s course has remained unchanged over the past century. It also noted that land deposits (due to erosion or accumulation of soil) might have altered village boundaries over time, affecting ownership claims. Some villages in Haryana today might have once been part of Uttar Pradesh, officially or unofficially known as Chak Manjhawali.

The court further pointed out that historical land records, if available, are in Urdu or Persian. These must first be translated before they can be used to determine the rightful ownership of the land and update revenue records accordingly in both Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, reads the order.

</excerpt>

For the past four decades, Dinesh Swaroop Brahmachari, widely known as ‘Chai Wala Baba’ in Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, has been offering free guidance to aspiring civil servants. What sets him apart is his unique vow of silence and abstention from solid food, surviving solely on 10 cups of tea each day. Brahmachari, a former tea seller turned ascetic, has become a beacon of support for students preparing for the civil services exams.

His teachings, however, transcend the traditional classroom setting. Through WhatsApp, Baba shares study materials, answers students’ queries, and offers motivational support, all at no cost to the learners.

Despite his vow of silence, communication with Baba remains seamless. Rajesh Singh, a civil service aspirant who has been under Baba’s guidance for years, explained that Baba uses written messages and gestures to impart his wisdom. Singh mentioned, “We don’t believe that the written medium is the best, but it serves its purpose.” The reasoning behind Baba’s silence is tied to his belief in conserving energy, which he uses to assist others. Baba’s dedication to helping civil service aspirants succeed in their educational journeys continues to inspire many.

Currently attending the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Brahmachari remains steadfast in his mission to support aspiring civil servants.

The Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the largest religious gatherings in the world, will take place in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, from January 13 to February 26. Pilgrims from around the globe gather at the Triveni Sangam for a holy dip to purify their souls. The Kumbh Mela’s origins are based on the Hindu myth of Samudra Manthan, where Lord Vishnu, in the form of Mohini, protected the nectar of immortality, which eventually spilled over four locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Nashik, and Ujjain. These sites have become sacred, attracting millions of pilgrims, and Brahmachari’s presence at this significant event emphasizes his commitment to spirituality and education.

</excerpt>

After the December communal riots in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh in which five muslims were killed and several injured over a, Archaeological Survey of India survey of Jama Masjid which discovered Hindu temple remnants, the executive officer of the Municipal Corporation has said on Wednesday that they will revive the temple as soon as possible.

Dr Manibhushan Tiwari announced an initiative to restore wells and pilgrimage sites in the city to reconnect people with their religious traditions.

This comes after a temple was rediscovered during an anti-encroachment campaign by the district police and administration on December 14 in Sambhal. The Shiv-Hanuman temple had been closed since 1978.

On December 22, a team from the ASI uncovered an age-old stepwell in Chandausi, Sambhal. The discovery came after the reopening of the Shiv-Hanuman temple, which had been closed for 46 years.

During the excavation work in the Ladam Sarai area of Sambhal An old well was also discovered by the local administration on Wednesday, Tiwari said that the restoration process involves digging and renovating wells, as well as reviving pilgrimage sites. The Municipal Council plans to invest funds, potentially with the help of the Vandhan Yojana and the Tourism Department, to give these sites a new look.

“On the initiative of the District Magistrate, we are continuously digging all the wells in the city and pilgrimage sites to restore them…In the same sequence, we have also made a plan to restore the wells we are finding. Whatever pilgrimage sites we are finding, we are going to work on their revival. With the help of Vandhan Yojana and the Tourism Department, we will invest money in it and give it a new look so that we can reconnect people with our religious traditions.,” he said.

He said that the administration also planning to beautify the Parikrama path in the region to strengthen religious tradition.

“We are also planning to beautify it, we are making a Parikrama path around it, we are making a gate there, we are marking the importance of the well on the gate itself so that we can strengthen our religious traditions,” he added.

Meanwhile, the newly reopened Kartikeshwar Mahadev temple in Sambhal district witnessed its morning aarti on Wednesday, drawing devotees from across the country.

Priest Shashikant Shukla, who led the aarti, shared that people from various regions, including Banaras, Delhi, Vrindavan, and Muzaffarpur, have been visiting the temple to offer prayers and seek blessings.

“People are coming from far-off places, such as Banaras, Delhi, Vrindavan, and Muzaffarpur. Yesterday, people from the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) Vrindavan came here to do Hari Kirtan. It was a great experience,” the Priest said.

Shukla also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for enabling the reopening of the temple, saying, “I’m deeply grateful to PM Modi and CM Yogi, as they enabled our Hindu community’s worship and facilitated the reopening of this temple for darshan.”

</excerpt>

After the death of Prabhat Pandey, a Congress worker who died during a protest on December 18 during a protest near the Uttar Pradesh Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress have been at loggerheads.

On Tuesday BJP MP Ravi Kishan demanded an investigation into the death of a Congress worker, saying, “… I heard that he was not taken to the hospital when he needed it… The police need to investigate how that child died in the Congress office. … First Rahul Gandhi should answer how he died,” Ravi Kishan said.

The incident occurred during the traditional Muh Dikhai ceremony on the couple’s first night together, according to Deccan Chronicle. The bride reportedly shocked her husband by asking for beer, marijuana (ganja), and goat meat. While the groom agreed to bring beer, tensions grew when the bride insisted on the additional items.

Police Involvement

Feeling uncomfortable, the groom reached out to his family members. The bride’s insistence on intoxicants annoyed his family members, who felt the need to take things to the police station as well. Both families were crying foul at the local police station, with the groom’s family now leveling the charge that the bride was not female but one of the third gender types.

Despite these stunning allegations, neither family opted to take it to the courts. The police settled the matter and brought them together for a discussion and encouraged both families to solve the issue amicably.

Both families left the police station without taking action against each other. They decided to solve the matter within their own house. Although tension is still at its peak, no formal complaint was filed and the groom’s family will discuss the matter with the bride’s family.

This strange case has gained much attention in the local community, with many questioning the nature of the marriage and the bride’s strange requests.

A Close Bond

What made Vishnu more special to the Pathak family was his ability to mimic human voices. He called Naveen “papa” and his wife, Jyoti“mummy.” The parrot echoed the voices of the children as well, making his absence even more heartbreaking. The family described Vishnu as more than just a pet; he was a member of the family.

The Reward Offer

</excerpt>

The Cost of Being a Woman is Pain: How Uttar Pradesh’s Women Are Confronting a Public Health Crisis

In Uttar Pradesh (UP), one of India’s largest and most populous states, women face a dire public health crisis that affects their everyday lives. For many, simply being a woman comes with the heavy burden of pain—physical, emotional, and societal. This pain is deeply ingrained in the lives of millions, from the rural villages to urban centers, where access to healthcare remains uneven, and cultural norms perpetuate gender-based inequality. The phrase “the cost of being a woman is pain” encapsulates the lived experiences of these women, who navigate a multitude of challenges, particularly when it comes to reproductive health, maternal care, and gender-based violence.

This long-form article delves into the multifaceted struggles that women in Uttar Pradesh face, shedding light on the severe public health issues that disproportionately affect them. We will examine the medical, social, and cultural factors contributing to this crisis and explore the systemic challenges that prevent women from accessing the care and support they desperately need. Ultimately, we will also focus on how these women, despite facing immense obstacles, are bravely confronting this crisis and striving for change in their communities.

The Public Health Crisis: A Snapshot of Women’s Health in UP

Uttar Pradesh is home to over 200 million people, with women making up almost half of the population. Despite its vast population, the state struggles with inadequate healthcare infrastructure, particularly in rural areas. For women, the situation is even more dire, as they face higher rates of maternal mortality, limited access to family planning, and widespread reproductive health issues.

Maternal Mortality: One of the most tragic aspects of women’s health in Uttar Pradesh is the persistently high maternal mortality rate (MMR). According to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS), Uttar Pradesh’s MMR is significantly higher than the national average. In 2019-2021, UP’s maternal mortality rate was 197 per 100,000 live births, which is a stark reminder of the dangers many women face during childbirth. Many of these deaths could have been prevented with better access to medical care, skilled birth attendants, and improved maternal health services.

Access to Healthcare: While the state has made strides in improving healthcare infrastructure in recent years, the disparity between rural and urban areas is still vast. In rural UP, where most women reside, health facilities are underfunded and understaffed, and access to quality healthcare is often limited. According to reports, women in rural areas are often forced to travel long distances to reach hospitals, and the lack of emergency services or transportation options exacerbates the risks they face during childbirth.

Reproductive Health Challenges: Women in Uttar Pradesh also face significant challenges regarding reproductive health. The state has a high incidence of malnutrition, which affects women’s ability to carry a healthy pregnancy to term. Additionally, women in UP often have limited access to contraception and family planning services, resulting in high rates of unintended pregnancies and unsafe abortions.

Gender-Based Violence: The Silent Crisis

Beyond physical pain, women in Uttar Pradesh also face widespread gender-based violence, which exacerbates their public health struggles. Gender-based violence in the state takes many forms, including domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking, and harassment. While the national narrative often focuses on urban centers, rural areas in UP see an even higher incidence of violence, which remains largely unreported and unaddressed due to a mix of cultural, societal, and institutional factors.

Domestic Violence: Domestic violence remains one of the most pervasive forms of gender-based violence in UP. Reports suggest that one in three women in the state experiences physical or sexual violence at the hands of an intimate partner. Often, these women face immense pressure to remain silent due to societal norms that prioritize family reputation and discourage seeking help.

Sexual Violence and Harassment: Uttar Pradesh also faces alarming rates of sexual violence, including rape and sexual assault, which continue to be major public health concerns. Fear of stigma and retaliation often prevents survivors from coming forward, while police apathy and judicial delays further delay justice for the victims.

The Impact on Mental Health: The trauma caused by violence is not only physical but psychological. Women who face gender-based violence suffer from mental health issues like depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, mental health support for these women is severely lacking in Uttar Pradesh. Cultural taboos surrounding mental health prevent many from seeking the help they need, leaving them trapped in cycles of abuse and suffering.

Cultural Norms and Gender Inequality: The Root Causes

The challenges women in Uttar Pradesh face are not just the result of inadequate healthcare systems or violence. Cultural norms and deep-rooted gender inequalities also play a significant role in perpetuating these health issues. Patriarchal attitudes and traditional beliefs often limit women’s autonomy, access to education, and ability to make decisions about their own bodies.

Early Marriage and Childbearing: One of the most pressing issues is the high rate of child marriage, especially in rural areas. According to NFHS data, around 30% of girls in Uttar Pradesh are married before the age of 18, a clear violation of their rights. Early marriage often leads to early pregnancies, putting both the young girls and their babies at risk of complications. These pregnancies also limit the educational and career opportunities for women, keeping them trapped in cycles of poverty and poor health.

Limited Autonomy in Healthcare Decisions: Women in Uttar Pradesh often have limited decision-making power when it comes to their health. Family decisions regarding healthcare, including childbirth and reproductive health, are often made by male relatives. This lack of autonomy can delay or prevent women from seeking necessary medical care, such as prenatal visits, family planning, or treatment for reproductive health issues.

The Stigma of Menstruation: Menstruation is another area where cultural taboos create significant public health challenges. In many parts of UP, menstruation is still a taboo subject, and girls and women face humiliation, isolation, and inadequate resources to manage their periods. This can result in increased absenteeism from school, social exclusion, and a lack of education on menstrual hygiene, further perpetuating gender inequality.

Women Leading the Charge: Resilience and Advocacy

Despite these overwhelming challenges, women in Uttar Pradesh are not passive victims. Across the state, many women are taking active roles in confronting this public health crisis, fighting for their rights, and pushing for change. From grassroots organizations to advocacy groups, these women are leading the charge for better healthcare, gender equality, and social change.

Community Health Workers: Many women in rural UP serve as community health workers, educating other women about reproductive health, family planning, and maternal care. These workers play a crucial role in bridging the gap between healthcare services and rural communities, ensuring that vital health information reaches those who need it most.

Activism and Advocacy: Activism around women’s health issues has also been on the rise in Uttar Pradesh. Women’s rights groups and NGOs have been actively campaigning for better access to healthcare, legal protection from violence, and an end to child marriage. These groups work tirelessly to raise awareness and provide support to women in need.

Building Support Networks: Many women in UP have created informal networks of support, where they come together to share their experiences, offer emotional support, and pool resources to access healthcare. These networks, often led by women for women, have become crucial lifelines in communities where formal healthcare systems are inadequate.

The Way Forward: Addressing the Public Health Crisis

The situation in Uttar Pradesh presents a complex and multifaceted public health crisis, but solutions are possible. The government, healthcare organizations, and civil society must work together to address the underlying issues and provide sustainable solutions for women’s health.

Improving Healthcare Infrastructure: The government must prioritize improving healthcare access for women, especially in rural areas. This includes providing better-trained healthcare workers, increasing the availability of maternal health services, and improving transportation to healthcare facilities.

Legal Reforms: Strengthening laws and their enforcement to combat gender-based violence is critical. This includes providing better protection for survivors, ensuring faster judicial proceedings, and offering mental health support to victims.

Education and Empowerment: Empowering women through education and increasing awareness about reproductive health and rights can play a crucial role in tackling many of the public health issues women face. Investment in female education, along with public health campaigns, is key to changing cultural attitudes.

Breaking the Silence: Addressing cultural taboos surrounding menstruation and reproductive health is essential for improving public health outcomes for women. Open dialogue and education can help to dismantle these barriers and ensure that women have the information they need to take control of their health.

A Call for Change

The public health crisis faced by women in Uttar Pradesh is complex, deeply rooted in cultural, social, and economic factors. While these challenges are daunting, women in the state are showing remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. It is time for the government, healthcare providers, and society at large to recognize the magnitude of this crisis and take bold steps to ensure that women’s health is prioritized. Only then will the pain associated with simply being a woman in Uttar Pradesh be reduced, allowing women to lead healthier, happier, and more empowered lives.

The confrontation culminated in an angry bystander slapping the influencer, who then apologised and promised not to repeat such actions. Though no formal police complaint was filed, the incident highlighted growing concerns over the misuse of public spaces for viral stunts.

While the internet provides a platform for creativity and fame, these incidents serve as stark reminders of the need for responsibility. Reckless acts not only endanger public safety but also tarnish the purpose of meaningful content creation.

</excerpt>

Two bikers were killed, and nearly three dozen people sustained injuries in a series of road accidents early Tuesday morning in western Uttar Pradesh. The accidents occurred as dense smog blanketed Noida and surrounding areas, severely reducing visibility.

The Agra-Lucknow Expressway saw multiple crashes involving a broken-down truck, with several car occupants injured. They were transported to Saifai Medical College, while one person was admitted to Shikohabad Hospital. One crash victim described the scene: “We couldn’t see anything. Our car hit another vehicle, and then three or four more cars crashed into ours.”

On the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, a truck collision triggered a chain reaction due to low visibility. A bus traveling from Panipat to Mathura collided with the stationary trucks, injuring around a dozen passengers, who were rushed to a nearby hospital. Authorities were called to manage the accident scene.

In Firozabad, near Agra, six vehicles collided after a pick-up truck broke down on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. Drivers, unable to spot the stalled vehicle due to the fog, collided, creating a pile-up of SUVs and other cars.

A speeding truck also rammed a bike on National Highway-34 in Bulandshahr, killing Mansharam, a Mainpuri resident. The truck driver has been detained. Additionally, in Badaun, a vehicle struck Santosh Singh’s bike while he was on his way to school, causing his death. Ten others were injured in similar incidents.

These accidents highlight the hazardous conditions in North India, where pollution levels are classified as ‘severe plus,’ exacerbating the air quality crisis. Residents in the National Capital Region (NCR) have reported respiratory issues such as sore throats, headaches, and difficulty breathing. Authorities have advised the public to stay indoors to limit exposure to toxic air.

With road safety compromised by the fog and pollution, local police and administrations are on high alert to manage the ongoing crisis and mitigate further harm.
