</excerpt>

JPC chairman P.P. Chaudhary says One Nation One Election is achievable, benefiting economy, democracy, and voter turnout significantly.

NEW DELHI: P.P. Chaudhary, Chairman of the Joint Parliamentary Committee formed for One Nation One Election, says that One Nation One Election is an issue of national interest. Therefore, all members of the committee are working with transparency, rising above party lines. Here are the excerpts from the conversation:

Q: Is One Nation One Election possible in the Nation?
A: Absolutely possible. Simultaneous elections have been held in the Nation earlier as well. After independence, from 1952 to 1967, four general elections and state elections were held simultaneously. Demands and efforts have been made earlier to hold simultaneous elections. Previous governments have also made such efforts. Niti Aayog, the Law Commission, Election Commission, and Parliament’s Standing Committee on Law have always said that the Nation will gain huge economic benefits if all elections are held simultaneously. According to estimates, the Nation will have a direct benefit of more than five lakh crores by holding simultaneous elections. Now, elections keep happening throughout the five years. Their effect is most felt by the common man. Children’s education is affected. People in government jobs and industrial production are also affected. Foreign investment is impacted by frequent elections because investors feel their work is disrupted. This causes a huge economic loss to the Nation and the states. Now, tell me, why should elections not be held simultaneously? Most states we have visited so far are in favour of holding simultaneous elections. Frequent elections also affect the development of states. The economic burden increases. States dependent on tourism are affected the most. Frequent elections ruin the economy of many hill states. Due to the imposition of the code of conduct, work stops. Lok Sabha elections are held in April-May, which is the peak tourist season for hill states. These states earn their real income during this period. Everything gets affected by elections. Then, Assembly and other elections also affect work. Administration gets busy with elections, which affects the common man. Governments are unable to take decisions. Two to three years pass without work in Lok Sabha, Vidhan Sabha, Panchayat, Municipal Corporation, and Municipal elections. If Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections are held together, then elections will be held only once every five years. The work of the Nation and the state will be less affected. This will only strengthen democracy. When we go on tour, the mood of the people, especially the youth, seems to be in favour of One Nation One Election. The atmosphere in the Nation seems to be building in favour of One Nation One Election. You will see that in the coming one or two years, the people themselves will come out on the streets and support it.

Q: But the opposition is opposing it. They say it is not possible.
A: You must have heard the recent answer of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on One Nation One Election. When a journalist asked how it will be done, given that a two-thirds majority is needed and the opposition is opposing it, the Union Home Minister replied that when Mahatma Gandhi talked about independence during British rule, people also asked, “How will you do it?” Now the same thing is happening regarding One Nation One Election. We will go among the people and conduct programmes. When the public is awakened, no party will be able to oppose it. You must have understood. The Union Home Minister clearly said that they will create an atmosphere among the people. I also believe that Congress and other smaller parties opposing it will understand the sentiments of the people and support it. You will see that the One Nation One Election law will be implemented easily in the Nation. Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously. Look at the decisions taken so far; all were made after careful thought and thorough study. A committee was formed under the chairmanship of former President Ram Nath Kovind, which recommended holding simultaneous elections. The government accepted the recommendation of the Kovind Committee. Then, the government brought a bill to Parliament regarding this. Parliament sent this bill to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to ensure no one has any complaint. Parliament formed a JPC including members from almost all major parties. The 41-member committee, under my chairmanship, is doing its work. The committee is ensuring that no work is done in a hurry. We are listening to everyone and taking their opinions before preparing the report.

Q: From whom have opinions been taken so far? How many states has the committee visited?
A: So far, the committee has discussed with former Supreme Court judges U. U. Lalit, Ranjan Gogoi, Hemant Gupta, B. S. Chauhan, Delhi High Court judge Rajendra Menon, D. N. Patel, A. P. Shah, Attorney General of India R. Venkataramani, and well-known lawyers Harish Salve and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. In the upcoming meeting on July 11, discussions will also be held with former Chief Justices D. Y. Chandrachud and J. S. Khehar, former Union Minister and Supreme Court advocate S. Nachiappan. The committee discusses every topic with legal experts regarding holding simultaneous elections. Regarding state visits, so far we have visited Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Union Territory Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Believe me, One Nation One Election is getting huge support. Governments are excited, while others seem unhappy about elections happening repeatedly. You will see that such an atmosphere will be created in the Nation regarding One Nation One Election that all parties will support it.

Q: JPC will visit more states now. When will the JPC be able to prepare its report?
A: We are not in a hurry. Our first effort is to visit states and collect feedback from members. There should be discussion with everyone, and the report should be prepared with consensus. As the tenure of the parliamentary committee is extended, the work will continue to progress. It is hoped that by 2028, One Nation One Election will take the form of law. Attempts have been made many times before for One Nation One Election, but serious efforts are being made now to implement it legally. The Election Commission, Niti Aayog, Law Commission, All India Professionals Congress, and Standing Committee on Law of Parliament — all experts are in favour of One Nation One Election.

Q: But to make a law, the support of two-thirds of the members of Parliament is needed in both houses. How will this be possible?
A: You are right; a two-thirds majority is needed. Today, I am telling you that there is no problem of support from the states. As far as Parliament is concerned, you will see that whenever the law is to be approved, most parties will support it. I will tell you why they will support it. They will support it because One Nation One Election will automatically get the support of the common people across the Nation. No party will be able to oppose it. I hope that the bill will be passed in both houses with consensus and become law.

Q: There is much discussion that voter turnout will increase with One Nation One Election, and free schemes will stop.
A: Absolutely correct. In states where general and Assembly elections were held together, voter turnout increased by about 11 to 20%. When one has to vote once in five years, voters come out in large numbers. They know the cycle of voting repeatedly is over. With increased voter turnout, a strong and stable government will be elected. A strong government is necessary for democracy. Regarding free schemes, it has been common that to win elections, parties announce many freebies to woo voters. This affects the states’ budgets and development work. You must have seen that due to free schemes, states’ debts increase, and sometimes there is a crisis in paying salaries. The poor are not really helped, and the weaker sections who should get benefits often do not receive them. Due to simultaneous elections, parties will be less able to use free schemes as an election issue. Most importantly, there will be less financial burden on the states. When the One Nation One Election law is made, Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections will be held simultaneously. This will not only strengthen the Nation’s democracy but also provide relief to the common people. The Nation’s expenses will be saved, investment will increase, and the Nation and states will progress.

Rahul Gandhi says English is a bridge, not a barrier.
</excerpt>

Several opposition leaders on Friday strongly criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his remarks suggesting that India’s culture and history can’t be understood through foreign languages, especially English. They argued that such views aim to deny the poor access to opportunities and empowerment.

Rahul Gandhi: “English Is a Bridge, Not a Barrier”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to respond:

“English is not a dam, but a bridge. English is not a shame, but power. English is not a chain, but a tool to break the chains,” he wrote.

He further alleged that BJP and RSS discourage poor children from learning English so they remain unable to question authority or access better opportunities. Gandhi also pointed out the hypocrisy of leaders whose own children study abroad while urging the public to reject English.

“They don’t want you in the boardrooms or high-paying jobs. They want the doors closed for you,” he said in a video from a public event.

English and Indian Languages Can Coexist

Gandhi emphasized that all Indian languages are rich in culture and knowledge, and English should be taught alongside them to build a globally competitive and equal India.

Backlash from Kerala Ministers and MPs

R Bindu (Kerala Higher Education Minister)

“English is the most widely used language globally. Denying children the right to learn English will restrict their world.”

V Sivankutty (Kerala General Education Minister)

“No language is higher or lower than another. Shah’s remarks are condemnable.”

CPI MP Sandosh Kumar

He accused Amit Shah of pushing cultural majoritarianism, saying:

“English is a bridge across regions and a tool for the youth and the marginalised. To attack it is to attack their aspirations.”

TMC Voices Strong Criticism

Sagarika Ghose (Trinamool Congress MP)

She called Shah’s statement “preposterous” and added:

“English is aspirational, connects India, and offers global advantage. Indians should never be ashamed of any language.”

Derek O’Brien (TMC, Rajya Sabha)

“India’s strength is in its linguistic diversity — 22 official languages and over 19,500 dialects. The BJP doesn’t understand this ‘unity in diversity’.”

He also criticized the Centre for ignoring India’s multicultural fabric.

Background: What Did Amit Shah Say?

While speaking at a book launch on Thursday, Amit Shah said:

“Those who speak English will soon feel ashamed. India’s culture cannot be understood through foreign languages.”

His statement has sparked nationwide debate, with many accusing the BJP of attempting to restrict educational and employment growth, especially for the underprivileged.

Final Word

The debate over English reflects a larger conversation about equality, access, and identity in modern India. While Indian languages remain central to the nation’s culture, many believe English is no longer a colonial relic, but rather a key to empowerment in a globalized world.

Hnamte first gained national recognition in 2020 when a video of her singing Maa Tujhe Salaam went viral. Since then, her powerful voice and patriotic spirit have won hearts across the country.
Amit Shah’s Visit to Mizoram

Currently, Amit Shah is on a three-day visit to Assam, which began on March 14. However, on Saturday, March 15, he traveled to Mizoram to attend a land transfer ceremony. During the event, the Assam Rifles officially handed over land to the Mizoram government.

While addressing the gathering, Shah praised the Assam Rifles for their dedicated service. Furthermore, he highlighted their commitment to security through fraternity. In his post on X, he wrote, “The Assam Rifles has served the people of Mizoram through the guiding principle of security through fraternity.
In addition, Shah spoke about the long-standing demand to relocate the Assam Rifles Headquarters from central Aizawl to Zokhawsang. He described this move as a major step in the Indian government’s efforts toward Mizoram’s development.

Moreover, he stressed that this relocation is not just an administrative decision but a symbol of the government’s commitment to the Mizo people. For over 30 years, the people of Mizoram had been requesting this shift due to the state’s unique geography. Acknowledging this, Shah said, “This demand, which has been around for 30-35 years, is now set to be fulfilled due to an important decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is not just an administrative decision but a symbol of the Indian government’s responsibility towards the Mizo people.”

Additionally, Shah highlighted how the Modi government has been transforming the Northeast over the past decade. He pointed out key developments in tourism, technology, agriculture, and entrepreneurship. As a result of these efforts, the region is witnessing significant growth and unity.

In conclusion, Shah reiterated the government’s unwavering dedication to the Northeast’s progress. Through various initiatives, the Modi-led administration continues to foster development and improve the lives of people in the region.

Congress leader Pawan Khera announced on Saturday that Congress MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, along with Congress Working Committee (CWC) members, will hold press conferences in 150 cities across the country. They will demand the resignation of Union Home Minister Amit Shah over his remarks about B.R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.

Shah’s Remarks Condemned

Khera strongly condemned Shah for disrespecting Ambedkar during his speech against the Congress party. He said, “On December 22 and 23, our MPs and CWC members will hold press conferences in over 150 cities. We will demand Amit Shah’s resignation and condemn how he disrespected Babasaheb Ambedkar.”

Ambedkar Marches and Memorandums

In addition, Khera announced that Congress will organize Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Marches on December 24. These marches will take place at district headquarters across the country. During the marches, Congress leaders will submit memorandums to district collectors, addressed to President Droupadi Murmu.

“We will hold marches at district headquarters on December 24. We will give memorandums to collectors, addressed to the President, repeating our demand for Amit Shah’s resignation,” Khera added.

Congress Intensifies Pressure

Thus, through these various actions, Congress plans to ramp up pressure on the government. The party aims to hold Shah accountable for his remarks and defend Ambedkar’s legacy.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has canceled his election rallies in Maharashtra due to the escalating violence in Manipur. The situation in the state has worsened, prompting Shah to return to Delhi.

Violent Protests Sparked by Killings in Manipur

The protests erupted after six civilians, including three women and children, were killed in Jiribam district. The violence has led to angry mobs targeting politicians’ homes, including those of BJP and Congress members. Security forces are struggling to maintain order.

Violence Escalates on Saturday Night

On Saturday night, the violence intensified. Despite a curfew, protesters attacked the homes of three state ministers and six legislators. The mobs set fire to properties and caused extensive damage, though the families of the legislators were not home at the time.

Politicians’ Homes Targeted

Protesters targeted the homes of several key politicians, including Minister Govindas Konthoujam and MLAs Y Radheshyam, Paonam Brojen, and Th Lokeshwar. The mobs set the houses on fire and vandalized them. The homes were partially burned in the attacks.

Clashes Near CM’s Residence

In a separate incident, protesters tried to storm the ancestral home of Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Security forces, including the Assam Rifles and BSF, used tear gas and rubber bullets to prevent the crowd from reaching the CM’s residence. However, protesters continued to block roads, setting tyres on fire and placing obstacles in the streets.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a scathing attack on the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) government, accusing it of corruption and failure to implement central schemes. Shah, while addressing an election campaign in Giridih, promised that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, it would take strict action against infiltrators and bring a law to return encroached land to the tribal community.

“Hemant Soren’s government is riddled with corruption and has blocked the implementation of PM Modi’s schemes. We will develop industries in Jharkhand, so laborers won’t need to migrate to other states for work,” Shah stated.

BJP Promises Law to Protect Tribal Land

Amit Shah accused infiltrators of exploiting local tribal women by marrying them and seizing their land. He promised that the BJP would enact legislation to ensure that such encroached lands are returned to the tribal owners.

“Infiltrators marry innocent tribal women multiple times and encroach on their lands. We will drive these infiltrators out of Jharkhand and pass a law to restore the encroached lands to the tribals,” Shah declared.

Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi, alleging that the Congress party aimed to restore Article 370, which granted special status to Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that the BJP had secured Kashmir’s integration with India, highlighting the Modi government’s surgical and air strikes against Pakistan-backed terrorists.

“Four generations of Rahul Gandhi cannot bring back Article 370. Kashmir is an integral part of India. Under Congress, Pakistan-backed terrorists attacked daily. PM Modi’s government eliminated Naxalism from Jharkhand, and we aim to end it in Chhattisgarh by March 31, 2026,” Shah claimed.

Shah Vows Amendment to Waqf Bill Amid Opposition

The Home Minister pledged that the NDA government would amend the Waqf Bill despite opposition from Congress and JMM. He criticized the declaration of various properties as Waqf land, including historical temples and farmers’ lands in Karnataka.

“In Karnataka, the Waqf Board declared centuries-old temples and farmers’ lands as Waqf property. We will bring an amendment to the Waqf Bill despite Rahul Gandhi and Hemant Soren’s opposition,” Shah asserted.

The statements come amid the ongoing assembly elections in Jharkhand, with polling completed for the first phase. Shah claimed that the JMM-Congress alliance had been “wiped out” in the initial phase. Voting for the remaining 38 seats is scheduled for November 20, with the counting of votes set for November 23.

Shah’s comments and promises are part of the BJP’s broader campaign strategy, focusing on issues like tribal rights, national security, and economic development, as the party seeks to gain a majority in the Jharkhand Assembly elections.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to be in Kolkata on October 24 to hold meetings with senior BJP functionaries. This will be his first trip to Bengal since the party’s Lok Sabha seat tally in the State went down to 12 in the 2024 general election from 18 in 2019.
Shah will be the main speaker at a special session of the State BJP which will be held at the auditorium of the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC). BJP sources indicated that, in addition to organisational discussions, Shah would hold a meeting of the party’s extended state committee at the Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre (EZCC) where MPs, MLAs, and State and district leaders would be invited to be present.

Several BJP insiders have said they are looking forward to the visit as it comes at a time when widespread protests are on against the Mamata Banerjee Government over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital.
“This is an important phase in Bengal politics…. Amit-ji will give us guidance on how to go ahead,” said a BJP source.

As Shah’s likely visit to the State comes after the Election Commission announced bypolls in six Assembly constituencies, the source said the Union Home Minister was likely to outline a road map for the by-elections, besides instructing the State BJP leadership on how to prepare for the 2026 Assembly elections.

“His visit will serve as an additional boost for us, especially in the context of R.G. Kar rape and murder case when the entire State is up in arms against the ruling Trinamool Congress and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee,” a senior BJP leader said.

“He will address grassroots leaders and his guidance in this political climate will not only help us in the upcoming bypolls but also strategically prepare us for the next Assembly elections,” the leader said, adding that lower-level leaders, who were struggling with a lack of direction after the party’s failure to capitalise on the R.G. Kar movement and its poor performance in the last Lok Sabha election, might find renewed motivation.

BJP sources indicated the party planned to kick off its election campaign with a membership drive tied to a signature collection initiative. The membership drive was announced by BJP national president J.P. Nadda on August 16 and officially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 2.

While Bengal was given a target to increase the number of BJP members from 88 lakh last year to 1 crore this time, the central leadership opted to start the campaign after the Puja festivities because of the State leaders’ involvement in the R.G. Kar movement.
BJP Rajya Sabha member Samik Bhattacharya, who has been given the responsibility of heading the membership drive in the State, said: “The membership drive is a very important function of the party, where, apart from getting new members, all old party members will have to renew their membership.”

Party sources also indicated that Shah might use the visit to hold discussions with top state leaders to finalise the choice for the party’s state president, who will lead the BJP in the Assembly elections.

Although the state BJP leadership is upbeat about the expected visit of Shah after a gap of nearly six months, political observers believe the party needs to go for an overhaul if it has to make any mark in the next Assembly polls.

“Although there is a strong negative sentiment across the State against the ruling dispensation, it is not enough to make a mark in the election. The BJP, on the other hand, has already been outplayed by the Left parties in the R.G. Kar movement and needs to draw up new strategies if they really want to boost their sagging vote bank,” a political observer said.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed strong support for Nayab Singh Saini, who has been elected as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party in Haryana. During his visit to the state as observer for the election of leader of legislative party, Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his unwavering focus on the state, highlighting the government’s commitment to welfare and good governance.
“Under Modi’s leadership, the BJP government has set a new benchmark for public welfare and governance in Haryana. I am confident that Nayab Saini will accelerate this momentum further,” Shah stated. He emphasised that the BJP aims to empower all segments of society, including farmers, women, youth, and the underprivileged, with a vision of making Haryana the most developed state in India.
The Home Minister said, “This milestone is particularly significant for Haryana, as no Chief Minister has ever secured three consecutive terms for their party since the state’s establishment in the 1960s. The Bharatiya Janata Party has achieved this historic feat for the first time, marking a new chapter in Haryana’s political landscape”
“ Since Prime Minister Modi took office, the emphasis has shifted towards comprehensive state development and addressing the concerns of the populace. The BJP’s decision to contest independently in Haryana resulted in its first full majority government, reflecting a strong mandate from the people”, he added.
Accusing the opposition parties of misleading youths and spreading false information about Agnipath Scheme, Shah praised the initiative terming the Agnipath scheme, designed to strengthen and rejuvenate the Indian Army. He assured that all Agniveers would receive job opportunities with pension benefits upon completing their service. He criticized opposition parties for misleading the youth about the program’s intent.
Shah reiterated that Haryana, known for its agricultural output, remains a top priority for the Modi administration. “This is the first time since Haryana’s formation that the BJP is poised to form a government for the third consecutive term. The mandate of the people was in favor of the BJP, and all previous speculations have been proven wrong,” he asserted, reinforcing the party’s resolve to foster growth and development in the state.
Later the Union Home Minister also hailed the hike in the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rabi crops, saying .
“These MSP hikes will enhance farmers’ income and ensure their prosperity. We are thankful to Modi for addressing every concern of the farming community,” he shared a post on his account X.

His remarks came while addressing IPS probationers in the capital, emphasizing the police force’s pivotal role in securing a safer and developed India.
</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, in an inspiring speech on Tuesday, painted a hopeful picture for India’s future, declaring that by 2047, the country will be free from terrorism and drugs. Addressing the 2023 batch of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers in the capital, Shah emphasized the vital role the police and internal security forces play in shaping a safe and developed nation.

Strengthening Borders and Reducing Violence

Shah confidently stated that no one dares to disrespect India’s borders or soldiers, thanks to strong governance. He credited a reduction of 70% in violence across major hotspots, including Jammu and Kashmir, the Northeast, and regions affected by Left Wing Extremism. “The big movements are fast disappearing because democratic processes have replaced violent means,” Shah noted.

Empowering the Police Force

Amit Shah urged the police to take the lead in protecting citizens’ rights, reducing crime, and ensuring swift justice. “The responsibility for doing this lies on the shoulders of our police force,” he stressed, highlighting their central role in maintaining peace and security.

Technological Advancements in Policing

Shah also praised the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS), which has connected 99% of police stations across India, making law enforcement more efficient. He further emphasized the importance of new criminal laws that ensure timely justice and boost the conviction rate by incorporating scientific evidence.

Transforming India’s Legal System

In his address, Shah also revealed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first scientific unit in Chandigarh this November, marking the beginning of a nationwide transformation in India’s legal system.

By 2047, as Shah envisioned, India will not only be a developed nation but will also stand strong with an internal security apparatus capable of keeping terrorism and drugs at bay, securing a brighter and safer future for generations to come.

</excerpt>

Addressing back-to-back rallies in poll-bound Haryana, Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched scathing attacks on Congress, Rahul Gandhi, and the Hooda family accusing them of misleading the people and indulging in corrupt practices. Shah highlighted Congress’ failures in other states, targeted their leadership, and championed BJP’s achievements under the “double-engine government” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While addressing a rally in Gurugram’s Badshahpur, Shah criticised Rahul Gandhi’s election promises, stating, “Rahul Baba’s poll guarantees have come a cropper in Himachal, Karnataka, and Telangana.” He added that the BJP only makes promises it can fulfill and pointed to the Modi government’s achievements as proof. “Rahul Baba and company cannot undertake development,” he said, emphasizing that only the BJP’s “double-engine government” can ensure Haryana’s growth.

Shah underscored BJP’s dedication to national security, protecting reservations, and preventing the reinstatement of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. He also alleged that “Pakistan Zindabad” slogans had been raised at Congress rallies and demanded that Rahul Gandhi explain why he remained silent on such incidents. He accused Congress of being disconnected from the national interest and claimed that the party’s leadership harbored intentions of restoring Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. On the contentious Waqf Amendment Bill, which has drawn criticism from opposition leaders, Shah addressed the crowd, assuring that changes to the bill would be discussed in the upcoming Winter Session of Parliament. The Bill, he said, would be amended to address concerns while maintaining societal harmony.

Shah hailed Haryana’s contribution to the nation’s defense, remarking that every tenth soldier in the Indian Army hails from the state. He also took a dig at Congress’ long-standing failure to implement the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme. “From Indira Gandhi to Manmohan Singh, Congress failed to deliver on OROP, but it was the Modi government that fulfilled this demand in 2015,” he said. Turning his focus to Rahul Gandhi’s criticisms of the Agnipath scheme, Shah called the Congress leader a “lying machine,” accusing him of spreading misinformation about the scheme. Shah reassured the crowd that every Agniveer would secure a pensionable job, urging people not to hesitate in sending their children to the Army. “After five years, there will not be a single Agniveer without a pensionable job,” he added.

Shah linked the ongoing Navratri festival to the elections, asking voters to deliver a message to Rahul Gandhi and Congress on October 5. He accused the Congress of being “blinded by appeasement” and urged the people to defend their values by voting for BJP.
The Union Home Minister reserved sharp criticism for the former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and his son Deepender Hooda. He accused the Congress government of nepotism, corruption, and caste-based development. “Hooda Sahab, your people are ready to exploit the system again, as seen on social media where a Congress candidate promises 50 jobs to each supporter.”
In contrast, Shah touted the BJP government’s merit-based approach, stating that 1.5 lakh jobs had been provided without any favoritism or corruption, and promised 5 lakh more merit-based jobs if BJP retains power in Haryana.

The Home Minister further highlighted the BJP’s support for Haryana’s farmers, stating that the Modi government had significantly increased the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for 24 crops, compared to Congress’ focus only on wheat and paddy. He also emphasized that under BJP’s leadership, Haryana had received Rs 2.92 lakh crore in central assistance, a substantial increase from the Rs 41,000 crore provided during UPA rule.

Shah’s rally in Mahendragarh took on a similar tone as he criticized the internal factionalism within Congress, particularly targeting Bhupinder Hooda. He mocked the power struggle within the party, saying, “Hooda says he will become Chief Minister, but his son is also eyeing the position, claiming his father is too old. Meanwhile, leaders like Kumari Selja and Randeep Surjewala are also vying for the post. But, Congress won’t win, and the Chief Minister will be from BJP.” Shah contrasted the Congress’ 10-year rule marked by “family and son-in-law welfare” with BJP’s 10 years of merit-based development. He urged the people of Haryana to make the right choice between the two parties, vowing that the BJP’s clean governance would continue to bring prosperity to all sections of society.

Thackeray criticized Shah for trying to weaken the opposition.
</excerpt>

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray made a bold allegation on Sunday, claiming that Union Home Minister Amit Shah instructed BJP leaders to split opposition parties during a closed-door meeting in Nagpur. Thackeray criticized Shah for discussing such plans behind closed doors and called for greater transparency in political tactics.

Uddhav Thackeray’s Bold Allegation

Thackeray, while speaking at an event in Ramtek, Maharashtra, where he inaugurated a life-size statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, revealed the alleged closed-door instructions. According to Thackeray, Shah asked BJP leaders to focus on politically undermining him and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar.

“Why speak behind closed doors? He should say this before people,” Thackeray remarked. He further alleged that Shah’s objective is to weaken the opposition and “loot Maharashtra” through political dominance.

Criticism of BJP’s Hindutva Approach

In his speech, Thackeray raised questions about the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) version of Hindutva. He wondered if Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat supports a strategy that involves breaking opposition parties and poaching their leaders.

Thackeray reminded the audience that despite the BJP ending its decades-long alliance with Shiv Sena in 2014, the party still managed to win 63 seats in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Upcoming Maharashtra Assembly Elections

Thackeray also highlighted the importance of the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections, framing them as a critical fight to save the state from being “looted” by the BJP. The elections will see a direct contest between the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP (Mahayuti) alliance and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).

Seat-Sharing Discussions in MVA

As the elections approach, MVA is finalizing its seat-sharing strategy. NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar stated that the seat-sharing talks will be concluded within 8 to 10 days. The three MVA allies will also consult their party workers on selecting candidates for specific seats.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah launched a sharp attack on the Congress at election rallies in poll-bound Haryana, accusing the grand old party of running a corrupt regime before the BJP came to power in the state. Shah’s rally, echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charges, focused on the alleged “dealers, dalals (brokers), and damaads (sons-in-law)” who he claimed dominated the state during the Congress rule.

At a rally in Rewari, Shah criticised the Congress’s previous government, calling it a period marked by “cuts, commission, and corruption.” He asserted that under the BJP, such practices have been eradicated. “The rule of dealers, brokers, and sons-in-law is over. The BJP has wiped out corruption, and there’s no question of such figures in our administration,” Shah declared.

Amit Shah also took aim at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, particularly over the issue of Minimum Support Price (MSP) for crops, a critical election topic in the largely agrarian state. He accused the Congress of deceiving farmers with false promises. “Rahul Baba, do you even know the full form of MSP? Do you know the difference between Kharif and Rabi crops? Congress should stop lying to farmers in the name of MSP,” Shah said, challenging Gandhi’s understanding of agriculture.

He further asserted that the BJP government in Haryana procures 24 types of crops at MSP, a record unmatched by any Congress government. “Which Congress government has ever purchased 24 crops at MSP?” he questioned, urging the Opposition to clarify their track record on supporting farmers.

Continuing his onslaught, Shah addressed the internal rift within the Congress, particularly between senior leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Kumari Selja. Speaking at a rally in Ladwa, Kurukshetra, he remarked on the ongoing friction, saying, “Even today, Congress is in disarray. Bhupinder Hooda does not want Dalit leader Kumari Selja to campaign in his area. She wants to campaign, but they won’t invite her because Hooda fears he will lose the election if she does.”

In contrast, Shah highlighted the BJP’s commitment to Dalit representation by pointing to their decision to field a Dalit woman candidate in the elections, showcasing the party’s respect for the community. A day after Rahul Gandhi addressed two rallies in Haryana, Shah also revisited Rahul Gandhi’s controversial remarks on reservation during his visit to the United States, accusing him of attempting to undermine SC/ST and OBC quotas. “Rahul Baba went to America and said in English that they will end the reservation for SC, ST, and OBC communities. Let me be clear, as long as there is even one BJP MP in Parliament, no one can touch the reservation system,” Shah asserted.

The MSP debate has become a central issue in the Haryana elections, with Congress promising a legal guarantee for MSP if it is voted into power. In response, Shah claimed the BJP government has been more proactive in supporting farmers than Congress ever was.
In Ladwa, Shah in a veiled attack also took a dig at former chief minister and INLD leader OP Chautala and former INLD MLA from Ladwa Sher Singh Barshami saying, “Shah said, “The prominent leaders and even the Chief Minister here went to jail for 10 years over corruption in job appointments. But the BJP governed for 10 years without anyone needing bribes or recommendations. Earlier, during Hooda’s government, brokers used to bring appointment letters. But under the BJP government, the brokers and dealers are gone; now, the postman delivers the appointment letter at the door steps of the selected candidates.”

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday declared that terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir has been “buried” and will not be allowed to make a comeback under the BJP government. Addressing an election rally in Chenani, Udhampur district, Shah reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to creating a terror-free Jammu and Kashmir, while accusing the National Conference (NC)-Congress alliance of advancing Pakistan’s agenda if they gain power.

Shah, who is leading the BJP’s campaign for the ongoing assembly elections in the Union territory, emphasized that these elections are being conducted without the shadow of Article 370, a temporary provision revoked by the Modi-led government in August 2019. Shah hailed this decision as the fulfilment of Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s vision of fully integrating J&K into India.

“Whoever spreads terror in Jammu and Kashmir will face the gallows,” Shah asserted, adding that the government has taken decisive steps to eliminate terrorism. Citing the case of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, he asked, “Should Afzal Guru have been hanged or not? The NC-Congress are now claiming that he should not have been. But we ensured justice was served.”

Shah also accused NC leader Omar Abdullah of seeking to release stone-pelters and terrorists but assured voters that BJP’s tough laws have ensured that no one dares to hurl stones anymore. “Omar Abdullah’s dream of undoing our progress will remain just that — a dream,” Shah said, reiterating that the law and courts will uphold justice.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday launched a fierce attack on the Congress during a rally in Haryana, branding the party as “anti-Dalit” and accusing it of repeatedly humiliating prominent Dalit leaders such as Kumari Selja and Ashok Tanwar.
Shah’s sharp criticism of the Congress comes as tensions rise ahead of the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.

“The Congress has always disrespected Dalit leaders,” Shah said. “Be it Ashok Tanwar or sister Kumari Selja, the party has insulted them all. It’s a party that turns its back on those who serve it, especially Dalits.”

Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Shah pointed to Gandhi’s controversial remarks on reservation and assured the crowd that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi can truly safeguard the quota system. “If there is anyone who can protect the rights and reservations of Dalits, it is Narendra Modi,” he asserted, positioning the BJP as the true defender of the community’s interests.

The ruling BJP has been capitalising on reports of Kumari Selja distancing herself from the Congress’s campaign, using her absence as a political weapon. Recently, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal extended an invitation to Selja to join the BJP, fuelling speculation about her future in Congress.

“Congress never awarded Bharat Ratna to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. It was the BJP that honoured him by establishing Panchteerth and recognizing his contributions through Constitution Day,” he remarked. He also took a direct shot at Bhupinder Singh Hooda, accusing him of selling government jobs.

</excerpt>

The BJP on Friday unveiled its election manifesto, the Sankalp Patra, for Jammu and Kashmir during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s two-day visit to the region. Shah while releasing the manifesto underscored the transformative progress under the current government, particularly the revocation of Article 370, which he stated had previously hindered the implementation of crucial reservations.

Shah highlighted the Modi-led government’s commitment to inclusive development, noting that new reservations have been introduced for historically marginalised communities such as OBCs, Gurjars, Bakarwals, and Pahadis. He also announced the BJP’s plan to issue a white paper aimed at holding accountable those responsible for the rise of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

Shah stated that Article 370 is a thing of past and will never return again.
“Now, Article 370 has become a thing of past, it is not a part of the Constitution. I have read the agenda of NC and seen the silent support of NC, but I want to make it clear, that article 370 is a thing of past and it’ll never return again, we will not let that happen. Article 370 was the thing that gave weapons and stones in the hands of the youth It’s the spirit of separatism that used to force youth towards terrorism,” Amit Shah added.

The manifesto, mentioned abrogation of Article 370 as one of the major achievements of the Narendra Modi government. He emphasised that the Jammu and Kashmir has always beeen part of India and that the government is foucsed on fighting terrorism and separatism.

“Our party believes that J&K has always been part of India and it will remain so. Till 2014, J&K always remain in the shadow of separatism and terrorism. Different state and non-state actors kept the state unstable. All the govt dealt with the state with a policy of appeasement. Whenever the history of J&K will be written, these ten years after 2014 will be marked as a golden period for the state.” Amit Shah said

BJP made 25 promises in its manifesto for the UT, primarily focusing on wiping out terrorism and separatism from Jammu and Kashmir. BJP focused on women-led development in Jammu and Kashmir. It promised to Implement ‘Maa Samman Yojana’ to provide Rs 18,000 per year to the senior most woman in every household in Jammu & Kashmir. It also promised to provide assistance through the state government for Women SHGs on the issue of interest on bank loans.

“We have decided that we will bring ‘Ma Samman Yojana’ to give Rs 18,000 to the eldest lady of every family, each year… We will give two free cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme, per year,” Amit Shah said. Catering to the youth, the manifesto mentioned that the government will create 5 lakh employment opportunities in Jammu & Kashmir through Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Rozgar Yojana (PPNDRY).

BJP also said that it will provide Rs 3,000 yearly through DBT as travel allowance to college students under the ‘Pragati Shiksha Yojana’. “Under Pragati Shiksha Yojana, we will provide Rs 3,000 to college students per year, as a travelling allowance, “ Amit Shah said.
BJP promised to distribute laptops and reimbursement of coaching fees to the tune of Rs 10,000 for 2 years and travel costs to examination centres for students preparing for competitive exams like JKPSC and UPSC. BJP’s manifesto also mentioned a rehabilitation scheme for Kashmiri Pandits,

“The scheme will be very detailed. We will look for complete rehabilitation. Many Kashmiri Pandits and people from the Sikh community who left when the terrorism was at its peak were forced to sell their properties. We have already started working in this regard – either returning their properties or providing the amount for their properties. We are towards the completion of rehabilitation of 6,000 people,” Amit Shah said about the scheme
Amit Shah further mentioned that BJP will provide Rs 10,000 under PM Kisan Samman Nidhi, comprising the existing Rs6,000 along with an additional Rs4,000.

</excerpt>

ON AUGUST 5, 2019 the Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced in Parliament about the abrogation of the Article 370, the temporary provision within the Indian Constitution that had given a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The abrogation brought about no domestic rebellion, no home-grown intifada on the streets of Kashmir. Protests, militancy, or terrorism was not prevented by even the harshest security clampdown of the 1990s. The relative tranquility in the valley is reflected in the huge surge in domestic tourists: from the super-luxury Khyber of Gulmarg to the cosier Dove Cottage of Srinagar, all accommodation is booked for the spring and the summer.
The security scenario has drastically improved. While 124 civilians were killed at the hands of the police and security forces during protests and stone-pelting incidents from 5.08.2016 to 5.08.2019, not a single such incident was reported in almost 5 years. Another outcome of the abrogation of article 370 is a considerable decline in both recruitment and annihilation of terrorists in 2023 compared to previous years. While 35 terrorists were slain in various operations by the security forces from January 1 to August 5 in 2023, the number was over 120 in the same period last year. In 2022, 186 terrorists including 56 foreigners were annihilated. The much dreaded Lal chowk, once the hot-bed of anti-India activities, teems with activities of tourists and locals even after 11 pm. It always wore a deserted look. Hindu religious processions have taken place regularly at Laal chowk since Aug, 2019. Cinema halls have reopened for the first time since 1989. Hurriyat and other secessionist groups have been banned under UAPA.

Dubai-based Emaar has become the first overseas company to invest in a mega-mall spread over 10 lakh square feet in Srinagar. It is a project of Rs 250 crore.
The improvement in security situation can be gauged from the fact that on August 3, 2023, hundreds of students, academicians, journalists, and people from different walks of life spoke about peace and nation building at a grand event held at a govt. degree college, Shopian. “ South Asian centre for Peace and People’s Empowerment’’ organized the event in collaboration with the college at Shopian, once the bastion for terrorists. The restoration of the administrative control is one of the best things that happened to Kashmir after the annulment of the article 370 . Investment of projects worth nearly Rs 25k crores are under execution in the UT while proposals to the tune of over Rs 80k crore are under process. Since independence only Rs 14k crore was invested by private parties in J and K. However, the UT has received investment proposals worth Rs 81, 122 crore from 2021 to 2023 after the abolition of the Article 370 and introduction of a new industrial development scheme. For establishing key units across both divisions of J & K, nearly 2250 acres of land have already been earmarked. The UT teemed with 1.88 crore tourists in 2023, up from 77 lakh in 2008. The administration predicts the tourists’ foot-fall to breach the 2 crore mark this year. Strike calls imposed by separatists in Kashmir find no takers anymore as the common man has started to reap the dividends of peace. Foreign delegates arrived at Sher-i-Kashmir international Conference Centre during G20 meetings. The three-day Tourism Working Group Meeting of G20 delegates in Srinagar on May 22, 2023, commenced with the side event on “Film Tourism for Economic and cultural preservation”. It was unanimously concurred by the participants that J-K was the ideal region to shoot films.
All India Women’s Cricket Championship was inaugurated in a Sports stadium at Doda. The ST community has been granted political reservation in Jammu and Kashmir. ST representatives have been elected in the DDC- District Development Council and BDC elections. Thousands of Dalits were granted their rights and domicile. More than 60 thousand west Pak refugees are granted their rights and domicile. ST status is granted to communities like Pahari, Padari and Gadda Brahmin. OBC community has been identified in J& K for the first time. The OBC is given their constitutional rights. People from the POJK displaced community whom the J& K govt. was denying domiciles were granted 25 thousand domiciles. In J&K, if a woman married outside the state, all her rights were forfeited. But women have got freedom in the truest sense. The District Development Council, Block Development Council and Gram Sabha democracy came at every level. All the provisions of the constitution have been implemented in J& K, including 890 provisions related to public welfare have been implemented. The Article 35A has been abolished.
Finally, it is time for the discourse to move “from being special” to the new narrative of “being equal”. Most residents and leaders of the state acknowledge that as an equal member of the Indian federal polity, they are entitled to enjoy greater freedom and rights than they did as a special state. Ipso facto, Tamil Nadu, Odisha or West Bengal is able to preserve its cultural identity, political space, and economic well-being much better than J&K was able to do as a special state of the Union.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah praised Abhinav Bindra, the gold medalist from the Beijing Olympics, for receiving the prestigious Olympic Order from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Thursday. This award, introduced in 1975, is the highest honor within the Olympic Movement, given to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to sport. Bindra, who won India’s first-ever individual Olympic gold in the 10m air rifle event at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, will receive this accolade during the IOC’s 142nd session in Paris on August 10.

Amit Shah expressed his admiration for Bindra on his official X account, calling him a sportsman with “exemplary feats” and acknowledging his ongoing influence as a mentor to athletes. “Kudos to @Abhinav_Bindra for being awarded the Olympic Order. A sportsman with exemplary feats, Abhinav Bindra continues to inspire athletes with his enlightening mentorship. All my best wishes are with him,” Shah wrote.

IOC President Thomas Bach sent a letter to Bindra, congratulating him on this honor. The letter read, “It is with great pleasure that I inform you that the IOC Executive Board has today decided to award you with the Olympic Order for your outstanding services to the Olympic Movement. The award ceremony will take place during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris on 10 August 2024. May I take this opportunity to address you my most sincere congratulations on this award, looking forward to seeing you in Paris.”

Following this recognition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated Bindra, highlighting his contributions both as an athlete and a mentor. Modi wrote on X, “It makes every Indian proud that Abhinav Bindra has been awarded the Olympic Order. Congratulations to him. Be it as an athlete or a mentor to upcoming sportspersons, he has made noteworthy contributions to sports and the Olympic Movement.”

This follows the planting of 11 lakh saplings in a single day under the initiative launched by PM Modi.

In the previous month, on World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, urging people in India and globally to plant a tree in honor of their mothers in the days ahead.

Addressing the gathering here on Sunday, Amit Shah said, “The whole country will witness when 11 lakh saplings will be planted here in Indore. Today every person across the country will plant a tree in the name of his mother and pay respect to his mother and Mother Earth.”

“I have come to Indore, a city that is known across the country for cleanliness, food, good governance and cooperation. From today onwards, Indore will also be known after the plantation of saplings in the name of the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam program,” he added.

The Home Minister lauded the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, noting that it allows people to honor both their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously.

“When PM Modi began ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign, nobody knew that it would become a revolution. Now everyone is planting a sapling and greeting both their mothers and Mother Earth simultaneously,” Shah further stated.

He mentioned that Indore, having already attained status as a smart city, metro city, clean city, and modern education hub, will now also be recognized as a green city.

“Indore has already become a smart city, it has also become a metro city, a clean city, a modern education hub and now Indore will be known as a green city,” Shah further said.

Actor Randeep Hooda attended the event in Indore. The Home Minister praised his performance in the recent movie ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar,’ which portrays a detailed biographical account of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s life, highlighting significant events from his childhood onwards, often portraying him in a reverential manner.

On social media platform X, the Home Minister announced that Indore will set a world record by planting 11 lakh saplings in a single day as part of the campaign.

“Today is a special day when Indore residents are going to create a world record by planting 11 lakh saplings. Under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Nam campaign started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, I will also plant trees in the BSF campus of Revati Range in Indore,” he posted.

“Environmental protection has been one of the biggest priorities of the Modi government and the government has made tree plantation a matter of public awareness. Also, this afternoon I will inaugurate 55 Prime Minister Colleges of Excellence in all the districts of Madhya Pradesh,” Shah further stated.

Earlier in the day, Amit Shah visited the Pitreshwar Hanuman Mandir in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where Chief Minister Mohan Yadav joined him.

Later, Shah is scheduled to inaugurate 55 Excellence Colleges in 55 districts of the state, beginning at Atal Bihari Art and Commerce College.

On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for the planting of 140 crore trees nationwide under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav committed to planting 5.5 crore trees in the state as part of this campaign.

PM Modi launched the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign on June 5, planting a Peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in Delhi, accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah took a jab at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, predicting that they will blame Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for their defeat after the Lok Sabha election results. “On June 4, after counting of votes, the two ‘Shehzadas’ (Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav) will hold a press conference and say that they lost the elections due to faulty EVMs. They have decided that they will blame the EVM for their defeat,” Shah stated at an election rally in Maharajganj, Uttar Pradesh.

The Congress and Samajwadi Party, part of the Opposition INDIA bloc, have a seat-sharing agreement in the ongoing Lok Sabha election. Earlier this year, Rahul Gandhi accused the BJP of undermining democratic institutions, saying: “Modi can’t win elections without EVMs, ED, CBI, and I-T. We asked the Election Commission to count the VVPAT also. But our demand hasn’t been accepted.”

Shah also accused Congress of fear-mongering regarding Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), asserting that the BJP government will reclaim it as it belongs to India. “Congress is scaring the nation by saying that don’t talk about Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as Pakistan has an atom bomb. Rahul baba, we the people of BJP are not scared of the atomic bomb. PoK belongs to India and we will take it back,” Shah declared at the rally.

As the Lok Sabha elections enter the final phase, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed confidence in the BJP-NDA’s success, emphasizing the slogan “400 paar” and “Phir ek baar Modi Sarkar.” He told ANI, “Today, ‘400 paar’ has become the mantra for the common man. Everywhere you can hear ‘Phir ek baar Modi sarkar- Abki baar 400 paar’. This has not happened suddenly but due to the changes in the country in every sector in the last 10 years under the leadership of PM Modi. This has happened through works in sectors like highways, railways, AIIMS, IIT, IIM, Har Ghar Nal se Jal, and Kisan Samman Nidhi. The sensitivity of the government can be seen through the poor welfare schemes. On June 4, BJP-NDA will meet the target of ‘400 paar’.”

Adityanath also criticized the opposition’s INDIA bloc, accusing them of mocking the Constitution.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a rally in Bihar’s Karakat on Sunday, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has surpassed 310 seats in the five phases of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Shah stated that the party aims to secure over 400 seats with the remaining two phases.

“Yesterday, six phases of Lok Sabha elections were completed. I have the report on the five phases of elections. In just five phases of elections, PM Modi will be winning 310 seats and forming the government. The sixth and seventh phases are for crossing 400 seats,” Shah said.

The BJP has established an ambitious goal of securing over 400 seats in the Lok Sabha elections in conjunction with its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) allies.

Urging people to vote for the NDA candidate Upendra Kushwaha (Rashtriya Lok Samta Party) from the Karakat parliamentary seat, Shah said, “Are you ready to make Narendra Modi the Prime Minister for the third time? Press the button beside Kushwa Singh and you will be voting for PM Modi. Every vote polled in favour of Kushwa Singh will help PM Modi be the Prime Minister.”

Shah also accused INDIA block members of being involved in scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore, and said, “This fight is tremendous. On the one hand, you have the INDI alliance that has committed scams of more than Rs 12 lakh crore. On the other hand, there is PM Modi who has not engaged in scams worth even Rs 1 throughout his public life.”

Pointing out the differences between PM Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in terms of their wealth, the Union Minister said, “On the one hand, there is Rahul Gandhi who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and on the other hand, there is someone from the extremely backward community who used to sell tea, our Narendra Modi.”

Shah took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi, highlighting that while the latter embarks on foreign trips during times of domestic challenges, Prime Minister Modi refrains from breaks and instead celebrates Diwali with soldiers at the border.

“On one hand, there is Rahul Gandhi who goes on vacation abroad when the weather becomes hot, and on the other hand, there is PM Modi who has worked throughout the year for 23 years and does not take rest even on Diwali but goes to celebrate the festival with soldiers at the border and eats sweets with them. Are Biharis with those who practice corruption or with those who are with Narendra Modi?” Shah said.

Taking a dig at former Chief Minister of Bihar and RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, the Union Minister questioned, “Today, I want to ask them: Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Chief Minister for 15 years, Union Minister for 10 years; four generations of Rahul baba (Gandhi) ruled the country, but what did they do for the poor? When Narendra Modi, who is from a poor and extremely backward family, became the Prime Minister of the country, work for the poor started getting done.”

Bihar is participating in all seven phases of the Lok Sabha elections, with the Karakat seat scheduled for voting in the final phase on June 1. Vote counting will take place on June 4.

</excerpt>

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the Congress was not going to win even 40 seats in the parliamentary polls and its leader Rahul Gandhi will have to take out a “Congress Dhundo Yatra” after the June 4 results.

Claiming that the BJP, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has already got a majority with more than 270 seats in the four phases of elections so far, Shah urged the voters to give 400 seats to the BJP after the fifth, sixth and seventh phases of the elections.

Pointing out that the “shehzada” (prince) of the Congress, “Rahul baba” (Rahul Gandhi), had taken out the “Bharat Jodo Yatra”, the senior BJP leader said, “After June 4, Rahul baba will have to take out the ‘Congress Dhundo Yatra’. The Congress will not be seen even with binoculars.”

Addressing a poll rally here in support of BJP candidate from Hisar, Ranjit Singh Chautala, the Union home minister said, “Mark my words, when results will be out on June 4, Rahul baba will head for vacation on June 6.”

Shah claimed that Modi’s “Vikas ka Kamal” is blooming everywhere in Haryana.

“On the one hand, there is Rahul Gandhi who was born with a silver spoon in his mouth, while on the other, there is Narendra Modi who was born in a poor family. Also, during the Congress rule, scams worth Rs 12 lakh crore took place, while under Modi, who also served as the Gujarat chief minister for years, no one could level an allegation of corruption involving an amount of even ’25 paise’ on him. Now, you (voters) have to decide between the two,” Shah told the gathering.

He alleged that the Congress wants to win the elections on the basis of lies. “They (Congress) are saying that Modi ji will end reservation if he gets 400 seats. I am saying today, we will not let it happen till the BJP has even a single MP,” said Shah.

He also said: “The Congress has given reservation to Muslims. Give us 400 seats, the BJP government will end this unconstitutional reservation.”

Stating that Rahul Gandhi has said that they will bring back triple talaq, Shah asked the crowd: “Do you want triple talaq back?” Making a direct contact with the gathering, the Union home minister said: “Tell me the residents of Hisar; whether Ram Temple should have been built or not? Tell me loudly whether it should have been built or not?” The crowd responded with an emphatic, “Yes…yes.”

He said: “The Congress kept the Ram Temple issue pending for 70 years, while the Modi government within five years after winning the second term won the case in the court, performed Bhoomi Poojan and Pran Pratisha too.”

He also blamed Rahul Gandhi, senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi for not attending the Ram Temple inaugural event because of “vote politics”.

Again making a direct contact with the crowd, Shah asked: “Whether Kashmir is ours or not? Tell loudly. Whether Article 370 should have been revoked or not? The Congress kept Article 370 for 70 years, while Modi ji after coming to power revoked it making Kashmir a part of India forever.” Blaming the previous Congress governments for being “soft” on terrorist activities, Shah alleged that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh never used to utter a word when “every day terrorists used to enter India from Pakistan”. But the Modi government carried out surgical and airstrikes and eliminated terrorists in Pakistan in reply to the Uri and Pulwama terror attacks, Shah added.

Taking on senior Congress leader and former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Union home minister said: “Hooda sahib; what have you done? You were the ‘darbari of damad’ (Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra). The Congress hand is with Delhi’s son-in-law and the people of the country remain empty-handed during its rule.”

While referring to change of power in Haryana in 2014, Shah said, “The previous Congress regime in Haryana was a government of ‘darbari, damad and dealers’ which has been replaced by a government of public welfare.”

He added, “After Modi became PM and following the formation of the BJP government in Haryana, each of the poor has a ‘pakka makan’, toilet, and gas cylinder. They have drinking water. There is development everywhere. The farmers’ welfare is taken care of.”

Referring to Haryana’s services to the nation – contributing to its food needs, its soldiers safeguarding the borders and sportspersons bringing laurels for the country – Shah said the state has taken the nation forward in all the three fields.

Seeking to puncture the Opposition’s claim that there has been no development here in the last 10 years, he said Haryana has emerged as one of the fastest-developing states in this period with an 8 per cent economic growth.

“Haryana collects the maximum GST (Goods and Services Tax) per capita and is at the top in ease of doing business,” he said. Every second car in the country is manufactured in Haryana, Shah added. He also addressed poll rallies in Karnal and Jhajjar. About M L Khattar, who was replaced by Nayab Singh Saini as the CM (Haryana) in March, Shah said the former was on the top post for 10 years and the BJP has now decided that he will serve the nation and the party in Delhi. The Lok Sabha poll results are scheduled to be declared on June 4.

</excerpt>

In response to a media query about the possibility of the BJP not reaching the halfway mark in the Lok Sabha, Union Home Minister Amit Shah stated on Friday that he does not foresee such an outcome and asserted that the BJP does not require a Plan B. When questioned about the BJP’s strategy if it secures fewer than 272 seats, Shah replied, “I don’t see any such possibilities. An army of 60 crore-strong beneficiaries are standing with PM Modi, they have no caste or age group…Those who have received all these benefits know Narendra Modi kya hain aur kyun 400 dena chahiye.”

During an interview with ANI, Shah was asked about the BJP’s backup plan in the event of not achieving a majority. He confidently responded, “Plan B needs to be made only when there is less than a 60% chance for Plan A (to succeed). I am certain that PM Modi will come to power with a thumping majority.” Shah also highlighted PM Modi’s strong support for SC, ST, and OBC reservations.

Addressing the BJP’s accusation that the Congress is attempting to create a ‘North-South divide,’ Shah predicted that the BJP would become the single largest party in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Karnataka combined. He said, “If someone says that this is a separate country, it is very objectionable…This country can never be divided now. A tall leader of Congress party spoke about dividing north and south India and the Congress party doesn’t even deny it or separate itself from the statement. People of the country should think about the agenda of the Congress party…Combining the 5 states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnataka, BJP is going to emerge as the single largest party in these elections.”

Shah emphasized that over 400 seats are necessary to ensure political stability in the country. He mentioned that although the BJP had the mandate to amend the Constitution, they chose not to. He elaborated that with 400 seats in the Lok Sabha, the BJP aims to secure the borders, elevate India to the third-largest economy globally, and ensure the welfare of the poor.

While the Congress claims that the BJP seeks to amend the Constitution by winning more than 400 seats, the BJP alleges that the Congress plans to strip SCs, STs, and OBCs of their reservation benefits to allocate them to the Muslim community.

</excerpt>

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has called on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to provide a “timeline” for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, amid the Centre’s assertions that statehood will be reinstated soon. Criticizing the BJP-led NDA government for its decision to revoke Article 370 and bifurcate the region into two Union Territories (UTs), Abdullah stated that his party, the National Conference (NC), had hoped for the restoration of statehood before the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The Supreme Court had upheld the Centre’s revocation of Article 370 and directed the Election Commission (EC) to conduct assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir by September of this year. Abdullah emphasized the need for clarity from the Home Minister regarding the timeline for reinstating statehood, especially considering the Supreme Court’s deadline.

In 2019, the Parliament passed the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, which reconstituted the erstwhile state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, effective from October 31, 2019. This move also led to the cessation of Article 370.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his recent visit to the UT, assured that the Centre was committed to restoring statehood and conducting assembly elections soon. Abdullah expressed confidence in his party’s prospects in the Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that the NC is poised to win by a “huge margin.”

Abdullah is contesting from the Baramulla Lok Sabha constituency against PDP’s Fayaz Ahmad Mir and Sajad Lone of the People’s Conference. The NC currently holds the seat, with Mohammed Akbar Lone as its sitting MP.

Jammu and Kashmir, which previously had six Lok Sabha seats including Ladakh, now has five seats. In the 2019 elections, the BJP won three seats, while the National Conference secured the remaining three.

Voting for the remaining seats in Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla will be held on May 7, May 13, and May 20, respectively.

</excerpt>

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Hassan district and meet the victims of the alleged obscene video case during Shah’s ongoing election campaign in the state. Shivakumar said, “I appeal to Amit Shah to visit Hassan and meet the victims. Your party only has given a letter, identify them and please meet them.”

Amit Shah, who is in Karnataka for BJP’s election campaigning, recently met the parents of Neha Hiremath, who was stabbed to death, in Hubbali and criticized the Congress party over the alleged obscene video case during a rally in Haveri. He accused the Congress government in Karnataka of allowing suspended JD-S leader Prajwal Revanna to flee despite knowing about the allegations against him, to conclude voting for Lok Sabha polls in Vokkaliga-dominated areas.

Shivakumar responded by targeting JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders, urging them to visit the victims if they have any respect for women. He said, “Kumaraswamy and BJP leaders talk a lot about women empowerment. If JD(S) and BJP have any respect for women, they must express solidarity with the victims by paying them a visit.”

Kumaraswamy, on the other hand, accused Shivakumar of being involved in circulating the videos and setting up the SIT to probe the matter. He warned, “Those 420 brothers who are making statements against me… must think before speaking. Both 420 brothers cannot hit me and run away. I know how to react and teach.”

Prajwal Revanna, the accused in the case, has sought more time to appear before the CID. He stated, “As I am not in Bangalore to attend the inquiry, I have communicated to CID, Bangalore, through my advocate. The truth will prevail soon.” Revanna was booked in an alleged sexual harassment case following complaints by his former housekeeper.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to Prime Minister Modi, requesting him to cancel the diplomatic passport issued to Prajwal Revanna and ensure his return to face the law.

</excerpt>

Union Minister Amit Shah addressed an election rally in Alappuzha, Kerala, in support of BJP candidate Sobha Surendran. Shah criticized the ‘INDI Alliance’, stating that ‘INDI Alliance’ has been exposed and the fight between Communists and Congress is fake. They come together on one stage in Delhi but in Kerala, they fight against each other. “This so-called ‘INDI alliance’ has been exposed. The two partners of the ‘INDI Alliance’ – Communists and Congress – come together on one stage in Delhi but in Kerala and Bengal they fight against each other. Their fight is fake… ‘ilu-ilu’ is going on between the Congress and Communist,” Shah said.

“There are three pavilions in the state of Kerala one is of Communist, second is of Congress and Muslim League and third is of NDA. The Communist is finished off in the entire world and so is in the country; Congress is over in the nation, and the coming time is of BJP…Should a ban on PFI continue or not? The Congress and Communist party take the support of PFI…,” the Union Minister further said.

Hitting out at Congress over its alleged involvement in the mining scam, Amit Shah said, “Congress and Communist leaders are involved in the black sand mining scam. In many scams, the involvement of CM’s family members and his office has come to light. However, the Communist Party which speaks about transparency is not ready to speak a single word on its CM…”

The Home Minster further said the Lok Sabha polls this time is to make Modi the PM for a third time and to free Kerala from violence. “This election is for making India become number 1 in agriculture, technology and manufacturing… This election is for making a violence-free Kerala. This is the time of the BJP,” Shah said.

“All the surveys are showing that the entire Kerala is ready to move ahead with PM Modi. Kerala’s farmers and fishermen are also ready to move ahead with PM Modi,” he said.

All 20 Lok Sabha constituencies in Kerala will vote in a single phase on April 26. Counting will be held on June 4.

Notably, the campaigning for the second phase of elections will end on April 24. As many as 89 constituencies spread across 13 states will go to polls in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections on April 26.
