French Tourist Raped in Udaipur After Asking to Charge Phone, Accused Arrested

A French woman, who was raped in Udaipur, was lured by the accused to his flat as she entered to charge her phone, police said on Tuesday. The suspect, as identified by the police as Pushparaj Ojha aka Siddharth, has gone missing.

Incident Began After Party at The Greek Farm Cafe in Udaipur

The woman reported in her complaint that she had visited a party at The Greek Farm Cafe, according to a source.

“At night, my friends and I went to The Greek Farm for dinner. We partied then. A bit later in the evening, a man came to our table,” she said in her complaint.

Accused Took Her to Flat Under False Pretense

He persuaded her to go on a driver. The complainant testified that she kept insisting the man drop her off at her hotel, but he took her to his apartment. She had gone to the house to charge her battery when the accused forced himself on her. The man dropped her off at the hotel at 6 am on Tuesday.

Udaipur Police Launches Probe, Medical Tests Conducted

Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal informed that the medical examination of the woman was done, and a case was registered on her complaint. He further mentioned that an in-depth investigation is being carried out to determine how the woman came in contact with the accused.

Police Search for Accused, French Embassy Notified

Station House Officer (SHO) Purna Singh Rajpurohit said the accused tricked the woman into stepping outside on the pretense of taking her around the surrounding area.

The woman was hospitalized after becoming ill. She is stable and receiving treatment at a private hospital.

The police official stated that a team has been formed to arrest Pushpraj. The French Embassy in Delhi has also been briefed on the matter.

Udaipur Resident’s Request Highlights Growing Trend Of Voluntary NFSA Opt-Outs

Under the National Food Security Act (NFSA), there is a growing trend of beneficiaries voluntarily removing their names from the list. In response to a government appeal, individuals who have become financially capable are choosing to opt out of the scheme. A clear example of the success of the ‘Give Up’ campaign was seen when an NFSA beneficiary from Udaipur, after his name was not removed despite submitting a request, wrote a letter to Food and Civil Supplies Minister Sumit Godara.

Udaipur Resident Sets An Example

Godara said that till now letters were received to add names in the schemes. When he received a letter for removing the name for the first time, he himself spoke to Udaipur resident Mumtaz Begum. She said that she had applied to remove her name from the scheme in January 2025 under the ‘Give Up’ campaign. Even after about three months, the name has not been removed. Mumtaz Begum told the minister that earlier her financial condition was not good, so she was included in the scheme. Now she and her family have become capable.

Godara’s Immediate Action

The minister thanked her for this. It is worth noting that in Wednesday’s issue, The Daily Guardian had published a special interview of Godara titled ‘‘Give Up’ campaign removes 18 lakh ineligible beneficiaries from NFSA’. All the questions arising amongst the public regarding the Give Up campaign were answered by the minister. Henceforth, more ineligible beneficiaries are getting their names removed from NFSA.

10,000 Opt-Outs Daily And Counting

After talking to Mumtaz, Godara directed the District Logistics Officer to remove her name. Along with this, instructions have also been given to all the officers that all the pending applications should be disposed of immediately. Only after removing the previous names, new beneficiaries will be able to be added to the list of NFSA beneficiaries.

Godara also revealed that approximately 10,000 people are opting out of the scheme every day, with the number expected to rise. He anticipates that up to 30 lakh ineligible individuals will be removed from the list, making room for new eligible participants in the scheme.

The announcement was made in the state budget, underlining the government’s commitment to harnessing the immense potential of REE reserves in the region. The Excellence Centre will focus on cutting-edge research, the latest mining technologies, and advanced processing techniques to ensure the state’s dominance in the global REE market.

Promoting Economic Growth And Employment

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal emphasised that the centre will not only boost REE exploration and extraction but also foster the development of related industries, creating new employment opportunities and reducing dependence on imports, especially from China. Under his far-sighted leadership, the government plans to promote sustainable practices in the mining sector while driving innovation in the REE industry.

Expanding REE Reserves Across Rajasthan

According to Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, discussions are being held with renowned institutions, educational institutions and experts of the country related to mining research and studies, so that the REE Excellence Centre to be established in the state will be multi-faceted and multi-purpose along with being the main centre of the country. Initial indications of finding the rarest mineral rare earth element reserves have been received in Barmer, Jalore, Sirohi, Pali, Udaipur, Bhilwara, Nagaur, Ajmer, Neem Ka Thana of Jaipur, Rajsamand, Sikar, Banswara and many more districts of Rajasthan. In these areas of the state, deposits of bastnasite, britholite, sinchisite and xenotime rare earth elements have been proved in carbonatites and microgranite rocks.

Dependence On China Will decrease

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal has given instructions to start a quality REE Excellence Centre. Sharma believes that this will develop opportunities for establishment of various industries from aerospace to battery, laser battery, investment, employment, technical development in the state. The most important thing is that 95 percent dependence on China in the field of REE can be reduced. From the processing of raw material to processing, work can be done in the country itself. With the start of exploration and mining of rare earth elements, the establishment of the Centre of Excellence will promote the information and use of the latest technology of the country and the world in this field. This will change the picture of the state as well as reduce dependence on China.

Udaipur: Supporters of Newly Crowned Maharana Clash with Palace Trust

Tensions flared in Udaipur on Monday following the coronation of BJP MLA Vishvaraj Singh Mewar as the 77th Maharana of Mewar. A confrontation ensued when Singh was denied entry into the historic city palace, now managed by a trust overseen by his cousin, Dr. Lakshay Raj Singh Mewar, and uncle, Shreeji Arvind Singh Mewar.

Supporters of Vishvaraj Singh, angered by the refusal, clashed with those inside the palace gates late into the night, hurling stones and attempting to breach the barricades. Police intervened to control the mob, and three people were reported injured. Singh himself reportedly stood with his supporters for five hours at the site.

The incident follows Singh’s traditional coronation at Chittorgarh Fort, held 12 days after the passing of his father, Mahendra Singh Mewar. The ceremony included rituals steeped in history, such as a raj tilak performed with blood, symbolizing the Mewar dynasty’s lineage dating back to the 8th-century ruler Bappa Rawal and famed warrior Maharana Pratap.

Vishvaraj Singh sought to visit family deities at temples within the city palace, but the trust managing the properties denied entry. Efforts by local authorities to broker a compromise allowing a smaller group into the premises were unsuccessful, leading to the unrest.

The conflict stems from a decades-old family feud over control of palaces, temples, and forts managed by nine trusts. In 1984, the former Maharana of Mewar, Bhagwat Singhji, appointed his younger son, Arvind Singh, as director of the trusts, effectively excluding the elder son, Mahendra Singh, from royal assets.

The Maharana Mewar Charitable Trust issued a public notice earlier, citing concerns of trespass and property damage, and reaffirming its decision to deny entry.

As the dispute escalates, this royal row looks set to leave a lasting mark on Udaipur, the City of Lakes.

Karni Sena activists hold protest in Jaipur following murder of Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi

Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena national president Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi was killed, and Karni Sena members protested in Jaipur on Wednesday. Since Tuesday night, members of the Karni Sena have been demonstrating and calling for swift action to be taken against Sukhdev Gogamedi’s killers. Thousands of young people demonstrated against the murder and carried signs as they arrived at the Udaipur District Collectorate office. Workers of the Karni Sena from all over the district, including the city, gathered at the Sevashram intersection before congregating at the District Collectorate of Udaipur.

According to sources, thousands of people protested continuously at the collectorate for more than 3 hours.
Women of the Rajput community were also present in the protest. They condemned the brutal murder and demanded action against the accused.
Later, a memorandum was submitted to the District Collector and District Superintendent of Police at the main gate of the Collectorate.
On Wednesday, in a big breakthrough in the murder case of Sukhdev Gogamedi, the Rajasthan Police identified two shooters who were involved in the killing.

2-day strike in Rajasthan, all petrol pumps to stay closed

Beginning on Wednesday, Rajasthan’s fuel pump operators will be on a two-day strike during which all of the state’s fuel stations will be closed. According to a gas station attendant, the strike is in protest of the demand for a reduction in diesel prices because there is a disparity in sales between Rajasthan and other states where the VAT is higher and diesel is more expensive.

Although the two-day strike starts on Wednesday, its effect could be seen earlier in Udaipur with petrol pumps being closed from Tuesday evening itself.
People got their vehicles fuelled ahead of the two-day strike in order to avoid possible shortages.

Indigo flies passenger to Udaipur instead of Patna

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an inquiry after a passenger who was supposed to take an Indigo flight to Patna instead boarded another flight of the airline and landed at Udaipur – about 1,400km away from his destination. The incident was reported on 30 January, and the passenger was sent to his destination next day.

A senior DGCA official said that the passenger, identified as Afsar Hussain, booked a ticket for Patna via Indigo flight 6E-214 and reached Delhi airport on 30 January to board the scheduled flight. But he mistakenly boarded Udaipur-bound flight 6E-319 of Indigo. The passenger realised the mistake only after landing at Udaipur Airport after which he informed officials at Udaipur Airport, who then alerted the airline about the matter. The airline reportedly flew him back to Delhi the same day and then to Patna on 31 January.

“We are seeking a report into the matter and appropriate action will be taken against the airline,” the DGCA official said. In the inquiry, DGCA will find out as to why the boarding pass of the passenger was not scanned thoroughly and how he boarded the wrong flight when as per the rule boarding passes are checked at two points before the boarding, he added. The airline in a statement released on Friday said, “We are aware of the incident that took place with a passenger in 6E319 Delhi-Udaipur flight.” “We are engaged with the authorities on this matter. We regret the inconvenience caused to the passenger,” the airline added. This is the second such incident reported in an Indigo’s flight in the last 20 days. Earlier on 13 January, a passenger who had the airline’s ticket and boarding pass for an Indore bound flight boarded a wrong flight and was taken to Nagpur airport.

Airtel 5G services roll out in Jaipur, Udaipur, Kota

The 5G services of leading telecom firm Bharti Airtel have been launched in Jaipur, Udaipur, and Kota on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, at the Jaipur Literature Festival (JLF) venue, the company has deployed ultrafast 5G services, which will start on Thursday in the presence of famous writers from across the world.

In a phased manner, Airtel 5G Plus services will be available to customers, and for a complete roll-out, Airtel continues to construct its network.

Furthermore, 5G services will be available in Jaipur C-Scheme, Civil Lines, Bani Park, Vaishali Nagar, Mansarover, Jawahar Nagar, the Old City (Walled City), Jothwara, Murlipura, Nirman Nagar, and Pratap Nagar.

“Customers across Jaipur, Udaipur, and Kota can now experience an ultrafast network and enjoy speeds up to 20-30 times faster than the current 4G speeds. Section 144 imposed a ban on flying kites in Udaipur on Makar Sankranti.

In view of Makar Sankranti and upcoming festivals in Udaipur, the District Administration has imposed Section 144 in the city till 31^st January and banned kites flying for four hours after being directed by the state government.

Additional District Collector (ADC) of the city Prabha Gautam said that this has been done with a view to prevent the loss of life of two-wheeler drivers and birds from metal mixed manjha used for kite flying on Makar Sankranti festival.

Vedanta Udaipur music festival concludes its 6th edition on a high note

Vedanta Udaipur World Music Festival, wrapped up its sixth edition, which was held from the 16th of December to the 18th of December, 2022. The festival was the brainchild of Seher and was presented by Rajasthan Tourism. It bore testimony to the performances of over 120 renowned musicians worldwide. This year’s musical celebration focused on the revival of forgotten musical instruments like the Sarangi by giving the local musicians an international platform to showcase their talent.

The festival’s first day witnessed Sarangi performance by local artists, along with several celebrated musicians and singers like Jasleen Aulakh, Parvaaz, Abakorao with their popular Latin tunes, and Papon.

The second day hosted artists like violinist Nandini Shankar, Bruno Loi, and Jonathan Della Marianna, who showcased the Launeddas instrument from Italy, Kamakshi Khanna, Katia Guerreiro, the eminent Fado singer from Portugal, SENZA from Portugal, Blessing Bled Chimanga & Dreams from Zimbabwe, the very popular The Raghu Dixit Project and Habla de mi en presente, a high energy band from Spain.

The day also held the performance of Sarangi players and the announcement of the results of the Vedanta Talent Hunt. Performances by Sri jani Ghose from Australia, Anoushka Maskey, actor-singer-songwriter Sanjeeta Bhattacharya and Aabha Hanjura graced the final day of the music festival. Naveen and Vedang, India’s premier Solo Percussive Acoustic Guitarist Dhruv Visvanath, the Electric Percussions Orchestra from France, Al[1]baluna from Portugal, Amrit Ramnath and Farhan Akhtar also performed on the last day.

Rajasthan: Blast on rail tracks near Udaipur, all angles investigated, say police

Ahead of the Asarwa-Udaipur Express’ scheduled passage on Sunday, there was an explosion on the rail tracks near Udaipur, Rajasthan. Near Udaipur’s Jawar Mines Police Station, Kewda ki Naal, the explosion took place.

Shashi Kiran, the chief public relations officer (PRO) of North Western Railways said, “Information came in at around 8 am that a detonator was used to damage the rail tracks. Officials from police, railway are present at the spot.”

Jawar Mines Police Station’s station house officer (SHO) Anil Kumar Vishnoi told PTI that locals informed the police about the explosion on Sunday morning, adding “We have found some explosives on the track and efforts are being made to identify the accused.”

Vishnoi further said that officials from the police and railway are present at the explosion site and are carrying out an investigation.

Udaipur’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Sharma, meanwhile, said all angles including sabotage are being investigated and work to restore the railway tracks has begun.

Ashok Gehlot, the chief minister of Rajasthan, expressed worry about the incident. Senior police and government representatives, according to Gehlot’s tweet, are present at the scene, and the director general of police has been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation.

The chief minister said, “Passengers are being transported to their destinations on this train route.”

Masked assailants loot jewellery from Manappuram Finance in Udaipur at gunpoint

At gunpoint on Monday, five masked men took employees of a non-banking financial organisation in Udaipur, Rajasthan, hostage while stealing gold jewellery worth 12 crore and 10 lakh in cash, according to a police officer.

According to police superintendent Vikas Kumar Sharma, the thieves forced their way into the Manappuram Finance Limited office in Pratap Nagar, Udaipur, and stole cash and jewellery. He claimed that while the exact value of the stolen jewellery has yet to be determined, the five are thought to have fled with more than 20 kg of gold and Rs 10 lakh in cash.

After the employees were able to free themselves, the police claimed that they were notified of the theft. They were looking through the CCTV footage in an effort to find the suspect. According to authorities, the employees were also being questioned.

An employee named Durgesh Sharma reported that five armed individuals wearing masks and helmets stormed into their office at 9:22 a.m. “At first, we didn’t know what was going on; it was only when they displayed their weapons and threatened us that we became alarmed. They put all of us up against the wall and then bound us.”

To obtain the locker key, the robbers beat two of the five employees, who were later bound. Four of the robbers obtained the keys, stuffed their bags with cash and jewellery, and one made sure the staff were restrained before escaping on their two motorcycles at around 9.40 am, according to Sharma.

According to Sharma, a worker who was just weakly bound was able to free himself and call the police and the area manager.

According to employees at a nearby bank, they learned about the theft after police got on the scene.

The office, which is a mile from Pratap Nagar Police Station and on a busy route, has no armed security.
