The globally renowned Jallikattu event commenced in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai on Tuesday, marking the start of a three-day celebration of bull-taming traditions. The first event, held at Avaniyapuram village, featured a thrilling contest with 1,100 bulls and 900 bull-tamers. This cultural extravaganza promises exciting prizes for the winners, including a tractor worth Rs 11 lakh for the best bull and a car worth Rs 8 lakh for the best bull-tamer.

A newly released video captures the moment when a suspected drunk driver crashed his truck into an Arizona social club on Saturday, September 7. Despite 25 injuries, miraculously, no one was killed.

The driver, identified as 73-year-old Thomas Edward Kain, attempted to leave Elks Lodge #2349 in Apache Junction around 8:30 pm when his vehicle smashed through the building, plowing through a row of occupied tables and causing numerous injuries.

The truck only stopped once it was fully inside the lodge, with video footage showing the windshield covered in drinks.

Several individuals were rushed to hospitals

According to the City of Apache Junction, AZ’s website, “Ten individuals were transported to multiple hospitals by ambulance, while fifteen others received treatment on-site for minor injuries. At least five additional individuals drove themselves to local hospitals for further medical evaluation. Currently, one person remains in critical but stable condition, with ongoing improvements to their health.”

Kain now faces 12 charges of aggravated assault, 17 counts of endangerment, and a DUI – slightest degree. Authorities have indicated that additional charges could be filed, depending on blood test results that will determine the “extent of alcohol impairment.”

In a statement, the Elks Lodge expressed their sympathy, saying, “In response to the unfortunate incident at the Apache Junction Elks Lodge last night, we want to express our heartfelt sympathy and support for all those impacted. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and we want to recognize the tireless efforts of the first responders who assisted.”

The Apache Junction Police Department, in collaboration with the Arizona Department of Liquor Licenses and Control, is investigating the crash. The City of Apache Junction, AZ website also emphasized the risks of driving under the influence.

“Impaired driving drastically reduces reaction times, decision-making abilities, and motor skills, putting everyone on the road at risk. We are fortunate that, despite the severity of this incident, no lives were lost. However, the outcome could have been far worse,” the statement read.

Police confiscate 3000 bottles of cough syrup in Assam

Police seized about 3000 bottles of cough syrup in the Karimganj district of Assam on Thursday. As per reports, the truck driver has been arrested by police in Churaibari, Karimganj district.

Niranjan Das, who’s in-charge of Churaibai police watch post, said the police team nabbed the driver as well as the co-driver of the truck, which bore the registration number MH-40BL-7948. “During a routine check, we intercepted the truck and recovered 15 cartoons of Phensedyl cough syrup from the truck. We have apprehended the driver and co-driver of the truck,” Das said.

He further added that the price of the seized cough syrup bottles is estimated at around Rs 15 lakh.

Reportedly, the truck was on its way to Agartala, in Tripura, when it was seized. According to the information, a case has been registered under the NDPS Act in this regard.

7 students killed, 4 injured in auto-truck collision in Chhattisgarh

Five held with Rs 60-70 crore drugs in Assam

Five people were arrested with contraband drugs worth Rs 60-70 crore in Assam’s Cachar on Friday night.

Talking to the media a senior police official said, “Acting on a tip-off, a Police team of Cachar district on Friday night intercepted two trucks which were coming from Mizoram, and during the search, the police team recovered 2 lakh Yaba tablets (drug) from one truck”.

“We have arrested four persons on the spot and later arrested one more person. A truck has also been seized,” police said.

Meanwhile, around Rs 60-70 crore is the market value of the seized contraband drugs.

The police further said in the last four months “Cachar Police have recovered and seized drugs worth more than Rs. 200 crores.”

Earlier on Friday, a huge contraband of drugs worth Rs 7 crores was seized, and three drug peddlers were also arrested in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district.

Moreover, a team of Karbi Anglong police based on the tip-off launched an operation and intercepted two trucks in the Khatkhati area on Thursday night.

During the search operation from the two vehicles, 30,000 banned Yaba tablets and 55 soap cases containing 757.15 grams of heroin were recovered.

Truck-car collision in Nagaon, 5 died

Following a head-on collision between a truck and a car, five people died in Assam’s Nagaon district on Monday.

On the National Highway-37 in the Hatiekhua area under Kaliabor Sub-Division in central Assam the accident took place.

Meanwhile, all the passengers died on the spot they were coming from Bokakhat towards Tezpur side.

Moreover, the died people have been identified as Bibek Das, Sanjay Das, Sameer Paul, Vikash Sarma, and Sandeep Paul.

A police officer of the Chulung Police outpost Mridul Debnath said, “We received information that an accident took place in the Hatiekhua Chariali area. We rushed to the spot. The car was coming from the Bokakhat side and the truck was coming from the opposite direction. All five passengers of the car died.”

However further investigation into the matter is awaited.
