Tornado Rips Florida Home from Ground, Caught on Doorbell Cam | VIDEO

June 26, 2025, 12:19 pm

A destructive tornado swept through Largo, Florida, on Wednesday night, tearing a mobile home from its foundation in the Ranchero Village neighborhood. The jaw-dropping moment was caught by a doorbell camera as high winds blew debris through the air before kicking the house into the air in a scene that seemed like it belonged in a disaster movie. Another nearby residence was also left out of place.

Authorities reacted swiftly to several reports of damage from the storm. In a X statement, the Largo Police Department stated, “This evening, the Largo fire rescue and the Largo police department responded to reports of major storm-related damage at Ranchero Village and Bay Ranch Manufactured Home Communities at the 7000 block of Ulmerton Road.”

They continued, “Emergency personnel are currently evaluating the situation. No injuries have been reported at this point; however, several residences have been damaged.”

One of the most frightening accounts was from the owner of the mobile home observed to be rising in the video. She was home when it struck.

“I was doing somersaults inside,” she said to ABC Action News. “But came out walking with only a few scrapes and bruises.”

Other villagers of Ranchero Village also reported harrowing incidents as the tornado swept through the village.

A local resident told of the ferocity, stating, “All of a sudden, it’s like a freight train, that’s the best way to describe it. And then I hear tearing apart and I ran into the bathroom, which is supposed to be the safest place.”

Emergency responders are still at the scene estimating the damage as cleanup operations get underway.

Epic ‘Yes’: Man Goes Down on One Knee in Front of Tornado | WATCH

May 25, 2025, 5:25 pm

While most prefer dramatic gestures such as flash mobs or candlelit dinners, a man in the U.S. upped the ante by proposing to the love of his life against the backdrop of a huge tornado.

The stunning moment has been recorded in a video that has gone viral on social media in Arnett, Oklahoma. In the video, Matt Michell is proposing to Becky Patel as a tornado rages in the background. Becky then posted the video on Facebook, where she typed, “On May 18, in Arnett, Oklahoma, in front of the most incredible tornado, Matt Michell went down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.”. I believe my squealing and jumping answer tells you what my response was!”

Watch:

Becky, who is Canadian, couldn’t be more thrilled with the way the evening turned out. “Matt, you make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and I love you with all my heart,” she included in her tearful post.

The romantic moment, captured on camera by their friend Chris Gullikson, is of the couple standing next to their SUV as the tornado approaches menacingly in the distance. While Matt asks Becky to marry him, the thrilled bride says yes, jumps for happiness, and yells, “I love you, baby!” before hugging him. They also stopped for a quick picture, beaming with pride as they display Becky’s oval-cut diamond engagement ring.

Michell, according to reports, is from Illinois and has been guiding storm-chasing tours for the last six years for Tempest Tours. Becky informed KLAW that she joined one of his tours last year.

Remembering their beginnings, she told us, “I was only asked to chase for two weeks but Matt requested that I stay with him and chase with him for another week as well, so I did!” The couple has been chasing storms together ever since, including one memorable tornado in Wyoming.

Kentucky Tornado: Couple Loses Opposite Arms While Holding Each Other

May 23, 2025, 2:16 pm

A deadly tornado hit Laurel County, Kentucky, recently, badly injuring Paul and Gail Cline, both in their 60s, who lost their opposite arms as they took cover inside their house, relatives and a WLEX report say.

Paul and Gail were at home in their bedroom when the tornado struck. A neighbor overheard their screams for help and came running to their aid. Their niece, Brandy Bowman, related, “She said, ‘I need help. I see an arm down the hallway,'” pointing to Gail’s arm, which was discovered in the hallway when the couple was removed by a rescuer combing through the wreckage for survivors.

The couple lost opposite arms because ‘they were holding each other’ when the storm happened.

Couple’s Medical Condition

The couple was taken to the hospital. Gail is now on life support after receiving a punctured lung, while Paul is stable but recovering from losing an arm and has not yet fully understood the trauma due to dementia.

Their niece Taylor Baker wrote on Facebook, “My uncle Paul is stable but did have to have an arm amputated. My aunt Gail is still on life support and also had an arm removed. She needs all the prayers she can get.” She also thanked friends and strangers who have been sending food and supplies.

Aftermath of Tornado

The tornado resulted in extensive devastation, killing 19 people in Kentucky, primarily in Laurel County, the Associated Press reported. A GoFundMe campaign for Gail’s treatment captures the couple’s struggles: “Their home, vehicles, and everything they’ve worked for is gone. They are two of the best people you could ever find. My aunt’s daughter also has stage 4 cancer, so they were already fighting that before this came along. They require all the prayers and help they can receive.”

Life-Threatening Tornado Strikes Kansas as Authorities Issue Urgent Warnings

May 19, 2025, 9:39 am

A violent tornado swept across rural parts of south-central Kansas late Sunday night. The National Weather Service (NWS) issued several emergency alerts as the situation grew more dangerous.

Greensburg and Haviland on High Alert

The NWS first declared a “life-threatening” situation in Greensburg. Soon after, it placed Haviland under warning too. Storm chasers spotted a rotating supercell heading toward the area. People quickly shared photos and videos on social media, showing the storm’s power.

Dangerous Tornado Confirmed Near Haviland

At 10:20 PM CDT, the NWS confirmed a “large and extremely dangerous” tornado near Haviland. The tornado moved northeast at 25 mph. It threatened parts of Kiowa, Edwards, and Pratt Counties.

Ten minutes later, at 10:32 PM, the NWS extended its warning. It said a severe thunderstorm was moving into northeastern Kiowa and west-central Pratt Counties. The storm showed radar rotation and was dropping quarter-sized hail.

NWS Calls the Situation ‘Particularly Dangerous’

The NWS described the storm as “particularly dangerous.” It warned of deadly flying debris and serious destruction. Mobile homes, buildings, vehicles, and trees could face major damage. The confirmed tornado showed a “considerable” threat. Total destruction was possible, especially in rural areas.

Second Storm Brings More Risk

Another dangerous storm followed close behind. This one carried a chance of producing a tornado and hail up to 2 inches wide. It was moving near Haviland at 45 mph. This second storm added to the already high risk.

Officials Urge Residents to Take Shelter

Authorities urged everyone in the path of the storms to take shelter immediately. They told people to go to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor. Windows should be avoided. The NWS warned that people outside, in cars, or in mobile homes must find strong shelter right away. They reminded the public that nighttime tornadoes are harder to detect and more deadly.

No Reports of Damage Yet

As of now, no injuries or damage have been reported. However, officials warned that the storms could cause massive destruction, especially in sparsely populated areas. These warnings came after a day of severe weather, which also brought tornadoes to parts of Colorado and Kansas.

At Least 21 Killed as Tornadoes Devastate US Midwes

May 17, 2025, 8:14 pm

At least 21 fatalities have been reported after tornadoes swept across sections of two US states.

There had been 14 fatalities from severe weather, according to officials in Kentucky, while seven were killed in Missouri, five of them in the city of St Louis.

Tornado Strikes in Kentucky Laurel County of US

The Kentucky tornado hit in Laurel County, south-east of the state, early on Saturday morning. Officials reported that they were anticipating an increase in the death toll.

Missouri officials reported 5,000 buildings damaged, roofs blown away and power lines brought down as a tornado hit on Friday.

Power Outages and Search Efforts in St Louis, US

Some 100,000 homes in St Louis lost power and the fire department reported house-by-house searching of the worst-hit districts.

Offcials in Kentucky indicated there were also critical injuries noted. “The search is ongoing in the damaged area for survivors,” Laurel County Sheriff John Root tweeted.

Tornado Path Identified Near Forest Park, St Louis

National Weather Service radar indicated the tornado came down just after 14:30 local time in the western part of the city near Forest Park which has St Louis Zoo and where the 1904 Olympic Games were staged.

St Louis Fire Department reported that three individuals were rescued after part of the nearby Centennial Christian Church fell in. One of the individuals was killed.

Curfews Imposed in Heavily Affected Areas

There was a curfew from 21:00 to 06:00 local time in the two neighborhoods where most of the destruction occurred, to avoid injury by debris and minimize the possibilities of looting.

St Louis Mayor Cara Spencer commented: “The loss of life and the devastation is so, so horrendous.”.

“We’re going to have a lot of work to do in the coming days. There is no doubt there, but tonight we are focused on saving lives and keeping people safe and allowing our community to grieve.”

The US National Weather Service said tornadoes also hit neighbouring Illinois, with more severe weather conditions stretching eastwards to the Atlantic coast.

Climate Change and Extreme Rainfall

Climate change is making extreme rainfall more probable. A recent study by Climate Central discovered that the effects of climate change have accelerated hourly rates of rainfall in virtually 90% of major US cities since the year 1970. In fact, AccuWeather stated that there might be as much as four months’ worth of rain in the span of five days along stretches of a 1,000-mile-long ribbon in areas of the Central US. The rainfall quantity can be difficult to manage for small drainage systems and streams in urban areas. In extreme instances, there might be rainfall intensities of as much as a few inches per hour, which can then lead to flash flooding.

Tornado Watches in Tennessee and Mississippi

In the meantime, the Storm Prediction Center has indicated tornado watches will continue in north Alabama, east Kentucky, north Mississippi, and central Tennessee through 6 am CT Thursday, April 3. Almost six million people are under the watch, such as in Tupelo, Mississippi, and Nashville, Tennessee. Some said homes have been destroyed.

Here’s a summary of some posts emerging on X related to the Tornadoes:

Tornado Terror! 33 Lives Lost As Deadly Storms Rip Through Central US

March 16, 2025, 9:49 am

At least 33 people were killed and dozens more injured on Saturday as tornadoes and violent storms raked across the central United States, officials reported. The catastrophic weather event wreaked havoc on communities from Kansas to Missouri and beyond, prompting emergency declarations and widespread power outages.

Widespread Destruction in Tornado Alley

Local news outlets captured harrowing scenes of devastation. In Missouri, the state highway patrol confirmed 12 storm-related fatalities, and dramatic images showed boats piled on top of each other at a marina ruined by the tempest. Downed trees, power lines, and damaged buildings further illustrated the extensive impact of tornadoes, thunderstorms, and large hail. Alicia Wilson, a resident of Missouri who was evacuated from her home, described the experience as “the scariest thing I’ve ever been through, it was so fast, our ears were all about to burst.”

Deadly Dust Storm in Kansas

In Kansas, a severe dust storm significantly reduced visibility, leading to a massive crash involving more than 50 vehicles. Eight people lost their lives in the horrific accident, highlighting the dangerous interplay between low visibility and extreme weather conditions.

Tragic Incidents Across Multiple States

The violent weather did not spare any region. In Texas, authorities reported four fatalities in vehicle accidents linked to dust storms and concurrent fires that obscured drivers’ vision. Meanwhile, in Arkansas, officials confirmed three deaths and 29 injuries as the state battled the destructive force of tornadoes and storms. Mississippi also reported six deaths and three people missing as the severe weather battered the area.

Emergency Response and Forecasts

Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas declared a state of emergency and noted that she had spoken with President Donald Trump, who expressed his support and commitment to help. “He said to tell the people of Arkansas he loves them and he and his administration are here to help with whatever we need following last night’s tornadoes,” Sanders posted on social media.

Power outages affected approximately 200,000 homes and businesses across the central United States by Saturday evening, according to tracking data from poweroutage.us. The National Weather Service warned that numerous significant tornadoes—some potentially long-track and violent—were expected to continue affecting the central Gulf Coast states, including Mississippi and Tennessee, later Saturday.

Understanding Tornado Alley

Tornadoes, the destructive columns of rotating air that touch down from cumulonimbus clouds, are most common in the central and southern states like Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas—regions collectively known as “Tornado Alley.” These areas experience extreme weather conditions when cold and warm air masses collide, producing the volatile storms responsible for the current devastation. In 2024, tornado-related incidents claimed 54 lives in the United States, underscoring the persistent threat these natural disasters pose.

Tornado In Eastern China Kills 5, Injures Almost 100

July 6, 2024, 6:54 pm

A tornado hit a town in eastern China, leading to five fatalities and nearly 100 injuries, as reported by CNN on Saturday, citing Xinhua news agency. The storm caused extensive damage, including roofs being ripped off houses and trees being uprooted, with debris scattered widely. Video footage of the incident circulated on social media, highlighting the scale of destruction.

The Dongming County Emergency Management Bureau stated, “Severe convective weather caused a tornado,” and mentioned that the local government had set up a command center and initiated emergency response operations.

According to CNN, citing Xinhua news agency, the tornado in Caiyuan, Shangdong Province, damaged 2,820 homes.

The Bureau added that emergency services are currently engaged in “post-disaster disposal and on-site clean-up.”

Tornadoes are relatively uncommon in China, averaging fewer than 100 annually, yet they can cause substantial damage. Researchers indicate that tornadoes have taken the lives of at least 1,772 people in the country since 1961. Recently, a tornado hit Guangzhou, resulting in the deaths of five people and injuring 33 others, according to Chinese state media. Earlier this month, the China Meteorological Administration published its annual ‘Blue Book’ on the nation’s climate change status.

The report noted that China had its warmest year since 1901 and highlighted that “extreme weather and climate events tend to be more frequent and severe.”

Meanwhile, different regions of China are contending with severe weather conditions. In the northern areas, a severe drought and unprecedented high temperatures are causing extensive damage, while in the southern regions, heavy rainfall is resulting in floods and inundations.

Southern China: Five dead, 33 injured as Tornado hits Guangzhou

April 28, 2024, 1:40 pm

Five individuals have lost their lives and 33 others sustained injuries in a tornado that struck Guangzhou, located in southern China, as reported by CNN, citing Chinese state media. The city, which is home to 19 million people, experienced tornadoes at a level-three intensity, two levels below the highest level of five.

Authorities noted that while 141 factory buildings were damaged, no residential houses collapsed, according to the Xinhua news agency. A weather station in Liangtian Village, Baiyun District, approximately 1.7 miles from the tornado’s impact area, recorded a maximum wind gust of 20.6 meters per second.

Search and rescue operations concluded by 10 pm local time. Following the tornado, several days of heavy rains have struck southern China, leading to deadly floods and endangering the lives of tens of millions of people. Guangdong province, an economic hub with a population of 127 million, has witnessed widespread flooding, prompting the relocation of over 110,000 people, according to state media citing local government reports.

The Pearl River Delta, China’s manufacturing heartland and one of its most populous regions, has experienced sustained torrential rains since April 16, with four weather stations in Guangdong recording record rainfall for April. While the Pearl River basin typically faces annual flooding from April to September, recent years have seen more intense rainstorms and severe floods, attributed to the climate crisis exacerbating extreme weather patterns.

Although tornadoes are not as common in China as they are in the US, they do occur. A 2015 peer-reviewed scientific article revealed that China averages fewer than 100 tornadoes per year, with at least 1,772 deaths recorded from tornadoes in the country over the 50 years since 1961.

The China Meteorological Agency has cautioned that heavy rain and strong storms are expected to continue until the end of the month.

June 16, 2023, 12:36 pm

On Thursday, a tornado tore through Perryton in the Texas Panhandle, killing three people, wounding dozens more, and wreaking extensive damage as another in a line of strong storms tore across Southern states. A tornado struck the region on afternoon, according to the Amarillo National Weather Service. Luigi meccariello , a meteorologist, said there was no immediate indication on the storm’s size or wind speed. Three persons were killed in the storm, according to Perryton Fire Chief Paul Dutcher.

He said that at least one fatality occurred in a mobile home park that was “directly hit” by a tornado. According to Dutcher, at least 30 trailers were harmed or destroyed. Firefighters began pulling survivors from the rubble at six o’clock. More than 8,000 people live in the town, which is roughly 115 miles (185 kilometres) northeast of Amarillo and just south of the Oklahoma border. First responders from Oklahoma descended on the region. According to the website poweroutage.us, about 50,000 customers in Texas and Oklahoma were without energy. Strong storms hit the US for the second straight day. On Wednesday, violent winds damaged structures and fell trees and blew cars off a highway from the eastern part of Texas to Georgia.
