</excerpt>

Tahawwur Rana, currently in the custody of India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA), has reportedly confessed to aiding the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks and playing a key role as a “trusted agent” of the Pakistan Army. Indian authorities extradited the Canadian national and former Pakistan Army captain from the United States on April 10 and lodged him in Delhi’s Tihar Jail.

Tahawwur Rana Trained by LeT, Surveyed Shivaji Terminus

During questioning by both the NIA and the Mumbai Crime Branch, Tahawwur Rana purportedly disclosed that he and his boyhood pal David Coleman Headley went through intensive training by Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the Pakistan-based terror group behind the attacks.

Describing LeT as “primarily an intelligence-gathering organisation,” citing unnamed sources, India Today reported that Rana admitted to surveying potential targets in Mumbai before the attacks.

He also confirmed that he was present in Mumbai during the 26/11 terrorist attacks and described it as a key part of the operation planned in conjunction with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

“He inspected locations such as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and thought that 26/11 attacks were conducted in collaboration with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI),” sources said, quoting Rana.

Part of a Broader Terror Network

Rana’s supposed confessions directly implicate him in the planning and surveillance that led up to the 2008 attacks, which killed 166 individuals at several high-profile locations, such as the Taj Mahal Hotel, Oberoi Trident, Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, and the Jewish Centre in Mumbai.

The NIA has indicted Rana under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for conspiring with Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HUJI) operatives, as well as other Pakistan-based handlers. Investigators accuse him of assisting David Headley in conducting surveillance in Mumbai, which played a pivotal role in executing the attacks.

Rana also asserted that the Pakistani Army had earlier sent him to Saudi Arabia during the Khaleej (Gulf War, underscoring his long-term association with the military establishment.

</excerpt>

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is being brought to India from the United States and is expected to be lodged in Tihar Jail’s high-security ward, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

The 64-year-old Pakistan-born Canadian national is known to be a close associate of David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, one of the masterminds behind the horrific 26/11 attacks. Headley, a US citizen, had conducted reconnaissance missions for the Lashkar-e-Taiba before the attack.

Extradition Finally Moves Forward

Rana’s extradition process gained momentum after the US Supreme Court rejected his final appeal to block his transfer to India. A multi-agency Indian team is currently in the US to bring him back.

Prison sources revealed that extensive security arrangements have already been made at Tihar Jail to house him safely. However, authorities are awaiting a formal court order before confirming his exact placement within the prison complex.

Role in the 26/11 Terror Attacks

The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, carried out by 10 Pakistani terrorists, left 166 people dead and hundreds injured. Over 60 hours, terrorists targeted the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, Oberoi Trident, CST railway station, and Nariman House, causing widespread panic and drawing international condemnation.

Rana is believed to have played a critical role in facilitating Headley’s movements and activities, making him a major link in the deadly operation that nearly pushed India and Pakistan to the brink of war.

What’s Next?

As the high-profile extradition nears completion, Indian authorities are preparing for tight security and legal proceedings. Once Rana is in Indian custody, he is likely to face interrogation by multiple intelligence agencies.

This extradition marks a significant development in India’s long pursuit of justice for the victims of 26/11.

Stay tuned for further updates as Tahawwur Rana lands in India and the judicial process begins.

</excerpt>

Kashmiri separatist leader Yasin Malik, who is currently incarcerated at Tihar Jail in Delhi, has gone on hunger strike, demanding urgent medical attention and intervention from the Delhi High Court. Malik, the Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), has been protesting the alleged denial of his fundamental rights, including access to proper medical care.

Malik Seeks Medical Treatment at AIIMS or Other Specialist Hospitals

In his plea filed before the Delhi High Court, Malik has requested that the court direct the Tihar Jail authorities to provide detailed records of his medical treatment. He is seeking to be referred to a specialized medical facility, such as AIIMS in Delhi or another super-speciality hospital in either New Delhi or Kashmir, to address ongoing health concerns. The separatist leader also requested that the court ensure he is brought before the relevant courts in Delhi whenever required for hearings.

Malik, who has raised concerns about serious cardiac and kidney issues, had previously approached the Delhi High Court earlier this year regarding inadequate medical treatment. At the time, the court was informed that Malik had been examined by AIIMS doctors and provided necessary care, with assurances from the government and Tihar Jail authorities that he would receive further treatment as required.

In a related development, the Tribunal handling cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) recently upheld the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) decision to extend the ban on the JKLF for another five years. The MHA extended the ban on March 15, 2024, due to the group’s ongoing involvement in unlawful activities.

The Tribunal, led by Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, emphasized that groups promoting secessionism would not be tolerated. Despite Malik’s claims of renouncing violence in favor of a Gandhian approach since 1994, the Tribunal noted his continued links to violent groups and individuals, including his visits to a terrorist camp in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK).

Appeal for Death Penalty in Terror Funding Case

The Delhi High Court is also hearing an appeal by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) seeking the imposition of the death penalty on Yasin Malik in connection with a terror funding case. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the NIA, argued that Malik was responsible for the killing of four Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel and the kidnapping of Rubaiya Sayeed. The NIA also highlighted the involvement of terrorists released after the kidnapping in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.

The bench, led by Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, is set to hear Malik’s plea regarding his health and medical treatment later today.

</excerpt>

Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, President of the Awami Ittehad Party and Independent MP from Baramulla, surrendered at Tihar Jail on Monday after the expiration of his interim bail in an NIA terror-funding case. Before entering jail, Rashid made a passionate statement about his dedication to the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, declaring he was “ready to sacrifice” his life if needed.

“We are ready to sacrifice our lives for the public,” he told ANI, adding, “Whether we are in jail or at home, we will always talk about the welfare of the people and the peace of Kashmir with honor and dignity.” Rashid, who has spent five and a half years in jail previously, said he remains undeterred by his return to prison, confident that “justice will prevail.”

Advocating Peace and Dialogue, Condemning Violence

Rashid condemned recent violent incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that the people of the Union Territory are against violence. He urged for reconciliation, calling on all stakeholders to engage in dialogue to bring lasting peace to the region. “Peace cannot be achieved without justice,” he emphasized, urging for a comprehensive approach to conflict resolution.

In his statements, Rashid also criticized regional leaders, notably Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, accusing them of shifting stances on Kashmir’s issues based on political convenience. He argued that the Abdullah-led party has maintained a “double standard” since 1947, using Article 370 for electoral gain but neglecting it post-elections. “The people will teach them a lesson,” Rashid warned, asserting that voters will hold leaders accountable for inconsistencies in their approach to Kashmir’s autonomy and development.

Rashid concluded by reaffirming his commitment to the rights and development of Kashmiris and encouraged people to stay resilient.

</excerpt>

AAP leader Satyendar Jain addressed allegations made against him on Saturday regarding receiving a massage in Tihar Jail while he was imprisoned in a money laundering case. He clarified that he was actually undergoing physiotherapy due to severe leg pain.

The controversy began in November 2022 when CCTV footage from Tihar Jail showed what some interpreted as a massage being administered to Jain, who was serving as the Delhi prisons department minister at the time. In an AAP statement, Jain described the video as an “exaggeration,” explaining that a doctor had advised him to rest in a room with better amenities. He stated he was unable to bend or lift anything due to his condition.

“During that time, I had severe leg pain. They arranged everything accordingly,” Jain explained. He questioned the credibility of the claims, asking, “Does anyone ever get a massage fully clothed?” and insisted that the physiotherapist was merely fulfilling his professional duties.

Jain was granted bail by a Delhi court after spending 18 months in Tihar Jail, where he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March 2022. He asserted that Tihar Jail is equipped with cameras, questioning why only footage of him surfaced. He also dismissed claims about his diet, stating he consumed only seasonal fruits and vegetables, resulting in a weight loss of 40 kg during his imprisonment.

Jain accused the BJP of attempting to “torture” him by isolating him in jail, adding, “If not for the judiciary, the BJP would have hanged me.” He further criticized the timing of the allegations, linking them to the Gujarat elections. In response, Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor dismissed Jain’s statements as “ridiculous,” suggesting that if Jain faced issues in Tihar, he should have reported them to the court. After his release, Jain visited a Jain temple with his family and later attended a party meeting with AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal.

Deepak Sharma, who served as assistant superintendent at Mandoli Central Jail No. 15, was seen waving the gun and briefly pointing it at another person. The Prisons Department of Delhi has launched an inquiry into the incident. Sharma, who has 440,000 followers on Instagram, was also previously involved in a controversy where he accused fitness influencers of scamming him out of Rs 50 lakh through a shell company.
</excerpt>

A Tihar Jail official has been suspended after a video of him dancing with a pistol went viral on social media. The official, identified as Deepak Sharma, served as the assistant superintendent at Mandoli Central Jail No. 15.

In the 18-second video clip, Sharma is seen dancing at a function with a revolver in his hand, along with a few other people. At one point, he appears to point the gun at another man before lowering it. The incident led to the Prisons Department of Delhi launching a fact-finding inquiry, overseen by the superintendent of Mandoli Central Jail No. 15, to thoroughly investigate the matter.

</excerpt>

Former Deputy Chief Minister and AAP leader Manish Sisodia, who was released from Tihar Jail today, credited Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution for his release and expressed confidence that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also be released soon.

In a speech to party workers following his release, Sisodia said, “I have come out of jail due to your love, God’s blessings, and the power of truth. Most importantly, it’s the dream of Babasaheb that if any dictatorial government puts Opposition leaders behind bars using oppressive laws, the Constitution will protect them. I assure you that with the power of the Constitution, Arvind Kejriwal will also be released.”

Sisodia had been in jail for nearly 18 months without a trial. Upon his release, he cheered, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai! Inquilab Zindabad!”

He added, “Since the order came this morning, I have felt deeply indebted to Babasaheb. I don’t know how I can repay this debt.”

Sisodia also greeted party leaders and workers who had gathered outside Tihar Jail to welcome him.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Sisodia on Friday in the excise policy irregularities case. The bench of Justices B.R. Gavai and K.V. Viswanathan issued the order, which includes conditions such as surrendering his passport and not influencing witnesses. During the hearing, Additional Solicitor General S.V. Raju raised concerns about potential witness tampering.

Sisodia was arrested by the CBI in February 2023 for alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. The policy was withdrawn amid allegations of misconduct. According to the CBI, Sisodia played a central role in the alleged conspiracy and was heavily involved in both the formulation and implementation of the policy to achieve its objectives.

</excerpt>

Manish Sisodia, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), walked out of Tihar Jail today after being granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi excise policy case. The court’s decision marked a significant development in the high-profile case, which has been a focal point of political and legal scrutiny. Sisodia’s release follows a period of detention related to allegations in the excise policy investigation.

Earlier the Rouse Avenue court on Friday issued a warrant for the release of Manish Sisodia from Tihar Jail. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in Delhi Excise policy CBI and ED cases.
He has been granted regular bail after a period of around 17 months.
Special judge Kaveri Baweja accepted the bail bond and surety bonds in both cases.
AAP MLA Prahlad Singh Sahni, Roshan Chauhan, Gaurav Singh Raghav, MCD councillor Punardeep Singh Sahni furnished the surety for Manish Sisodia of Rs. 10 lakh each.
During the day, the court had granted the CBI time to paginate the charge sheet by August 14. Thereafter, the inspection by the counsel for the accused will be done.
The Court has listed the matter for hearing on August 21 at 12 PM.
In the morning Special Judge Kaveri Baweja had extended the judicial custody of Manish Sisodia, K Kavitha and other accused till next date.
However, the Supreme Court granted Manish Sisodia in Delhi Excise policy cases.
Accused were produced through video conferencing.
Manish Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26. Thereafter, he was arrested by the ED in March 2023.
His earlier bail applications were dismissed by the trial court as well as Delhi High Court.

Arvind Kejriwal is currently held in Tihar Jail over charges related to a money laundering case and a corruption investigation tied to Delhi’s excise policy.

Sunita Kejriwal told the crowd that Arvind Kejriwal’s imprisonment is a result of his successful initiatives in Delhi, such as improving government schools, hospitals, and mohalla clinics, as well as providing free electricity. She accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to stop these development efforts by framing her husband in false cases.

She urged voters in Haryana to reject the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections, emphasizing that Kejriwal has made Haryana proud and asserting that Modi’s government is attempting to discredit him.

Last week, Sunita Kejriwal also expressed concerns about her husband’s safety in Tihar Jail and accused the BJP-led central government of trying to “defame” him with fabricated charges. She criticized BJP MPs for not contributing to Delhi’s progress and suggested that their only political strategy is to spread hatred and hinder development.

Sunita Kejriwal’s comments aim to rally support for her husband and criticize the BJP’s handling of Delhi’s governance issues.

Kejriwal is currently under judicial custody until August 8. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of conspiring against Kejriwal, citing medical reports that show his blood sugar levels dropped significantly between June 3 and July 7.

On July 15, Delhi Minister Atishi claimed that Kejriwal has experienced rapid and unexplained weight loss, blaming the BJP for any harm that might come to him. She noted that Kejriwal’s weight dropped from 70 kg to 61.5 kg since his arrest on March 21.

Kejriwal is under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged corruption and money laundering related to a now-canceled Delhi liquor policy. He was first arrested by the ED for money laundering and later placed under judicial custody by the CBI.

A Delhi court has extended Kejriwal’s custody until August 8. The CBI has filed its fifth and final charge sheet, labeling Kejriwal as the key figure in the alleged liquor scam and promising to push for a swift trial.

AAP MP Sanjay Singh announced that leaders from several parties in the INDIA bloc, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, Trinamool Congress, DMK, CPI, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, NCP, Shiv Sena (UBT), and CPI (ML) Liberation, will join the protest. He also mentioned that they are in talks with a few more parties.

During her recent custody, CBI officials questioned Kavitha about WhatsApp chats from co-accused Buchi Babu’s phone and documents related to a land deal.
Kejriwal, who was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court for campaigning in the Lok Sabha elections until May 10, was ordered to surrender to Tihar Jail on June 2. Expressing gratitude to the Supreme Court for the interim bail, Kejriwal acknowledged, “I came out for an election campaign for 21 days on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. I am very grateful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Today I will surrender by going to Tihar.”

Detailing his itinerary for the day, Kejriwal shared, “I will leave home at 3 pm. First, I will go to Rajghat and pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. From there, I will go to the Hanuman temple in Connaught Place to seek the blessings of Hanuman Ji. And from there, I will go to the party office and meet all the workers and party leaders. From there, I will again leave for Tihar.” He concluded with a message to his supporters, saying, “All of you take care of yourselves. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail.”

Despite his earlier plea for an extension of interim bail being rejected by the Supreme Court, and the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court reserving the order on his interim bail plea due to medical reasons in the money laundering case related to the alleged excise policy scam, Kejriwal remained resolute. He posted an emotional video message, stating, “The 21 days are getting over; I have to surrender. I don’t know how long they will keep me in jail this time. But my spirits are high. I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. I am proud of this.
Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering investigation concerning alleged irregularities in the now-cancelled Delhi excise policy 2021-22, Kejriwal’s legal battles have continued unabated.

</excerpt>

Delhi’s chief minister and convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal will come back to Tihar Jail, as the apex court has refused to grant any further relief on Sunday.

Earlier, supreme court had granted Kejriwal an interim bail to campaign for Lok sabha elections on May 10, till June 2.

After the grant of interim bail, Delhi CM Arvind kejriwal approached supreme court for further extension of bail.

However, the top court dismissed the plea, stating, he has already been granted the liberty to seek regular bail from the trial court. Thus, the plea is not maintainable.

Moreover, Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court had reserved its verdict on Kejriwal’s interim bail plea, which the petitioner sought on medical grounds.

Later, the court scheduled June 5 for the pronouncement of its verdict on the 7-day bail, despite Kejriwal’s counsel requesting the order on the same day.

Representing Kejriwal, Senior Advocate N. Hariharan argued that the interim bail plea was essential for his party’s campaign, which is now recognized as a national party.

“I am out for 20 days and had I not done it, you would’ve said see he didn’t campaign and fell ill. It was a lot of stress due to the campaigning and you know that stress is a aggrevator of diabetes. What was alarming was that keto levels rose in the urine. The aspect of concern is the high level of sugar and the keto numbers.” further said the plea.

But enforcement directorate lawyer, solicitor general Tushar Mehta and additional solicitor general SV Raju, contended, that kejriwal has willingly suppressed the facts about everything including his health conditions.

In their preliminary arguments, they further stated that they have objections to the filing of interim bail.

“This court cannot modify the Supreme Court order. He’s on interim bail because the SC granted it, what he is asking here is an extension of the Supreme Court order.” said ED’s lawyer.

Regarding the dismissal of the interim bail, they further contended that it should be rejected as it is based on suppressed facts.

Although, the apex court has granted the petitioner the liberty to file for regular bail, it did not grant an extension of interim bail.

“The Supreme Court had granted Liberty to him that he can file regular bail but the liberty to seek an extension of interim bail was not granted to him. He has said that these tests require 7 days, but the nature of the test has been suppressed.” contended ED’s counsel.

While questioning the maintainability aspect of the interim bail plea, they highlighted, instead of undergoing his medical test, he was busy traveling.

Recently, Arvind Kejriwal, through his legal team, submitted two separate bail applications to the relevant court. His plea for regular bail is scheduled for a hearing on June 7, 2024.

Previously, on Friday, Arvind Kejriwal posted an emotional message, expressing his pride in going to jail to protect the country from dictatorship.

Posting a video message, he said,

“Tomorrow the 21 days are getting over, the day after tomorrow I have to surrender. I don’t know how long they will keep me in jail this time. But my spirits are high. I am going to jail to save the country from dictatorship. I am proud of this. They tried to break me many times, tried to make me bow down but I didn’t.”

On March 21, Kejriwal was apprehended by the ED as part of a money laundering investigation linked to suspected irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy, which has now been cancelled.

Kejriwal was given interim bail by the Supreme Court to campaign for the Lok Sabha elections on May 10 and was asked to surrender to Tihar jail on June 2.

In a post on X, the Delhi CM thanked the Supreme Court for granting him interim bail in a money laundering case linked to the alleged Delhi liquor policy scam.
“I came out for an election campaign for 21 days on the orders of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. I am very grateful to the Hon’ble Supreme Court. Today I will surrender by going to Tihar,” Kejriwal posted on X.

“All of you take care of yourselves. If you are happy, then your Kejriwal will also be happy in jail,” the Delhi CM said.

The chief minister of Delhi has already petitioned the Supreme Court to extend the bail period. The Supreme Court denied his plea on Wednesday, ruling that it was unmaintainable because he was allowed to petition the trial court for normal release.

In the meantime, Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi postponed the ruling on Kejriwal’s request for temporary bail on Saturday, citing health concerns in connection with a money laundering case involving the purported excise policy scheme.

The order on the application for a seven-day bond was set for June 5 by the court, but Kejriwal’s attorney was not allowed to get the order passed today.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faces returning to Tihar Jail on June 2, following a Delhi court’s postponement of its verdict on his interim bail plea to June 5 in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Kejriwal, seeking seven days’ bail on medical grounds, is implicated in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy of 2021-22. Despite his legal team’s request for an immediate verdict, citing the Supreme Court’s deadline, the court opted to defer its decision.

During the proceedings, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) opposed Kejriwal’s bail plea, arguing its inadmissibility before the trial court. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta highlighted Kejriwal’s recent press conference where he announced his intention to surrender, suggesting that his bail application was a last-minute attempt. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju supported this stance, alleging Kejriwal’s non-disclosure of his extension plea to the Supreme Court. Raju stressed the trial court’s inability to modify Supreme Court orders and emphasized the stringent conditions of Section 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

In response, Senior Advocate N Hariharan, representing Arvind Kejriwal , cited the Supreme Court’s May 17 order, which granted liberty to file bail pleas. He underscored Kejriwal’s deteriorating health condition and the urgency for medical tests. ASG Raju countered, accusing Kejriwal of deliberately delaying medical examinations.

The court reserved its decision on the interim bail plea, scheduling Kejriwal’s regular bail application hearing for June 7, pending ED’s response.

This marks Kejriwal’s first regular bail application since his March 21 arrest by the ED. Previous challenges to his arrest were dismissed by lower courts, with the Supreme Court’s decision pending. The arrest stems from allegations of Kejriwal’s involvement in a ₹100-crore bribery conspiracy linked to changes in Delhi’s excise policy, which he denies. The policy, aimed at reforming the liquor industry, was scrapped amid controversy and replaced.

In response to this situation, Sunita Kejriwal, the chief minister’s wife, will be the intermediary between the party’s leadership and her husband. Her involvement in the party has increased significantly since Kejriwal’s imprisonment, enabling communication and coordination with the national convener.

A senior AAP member commented, “Kejriwalji will continue to be CM. We are waiting for the poll results. If INDIA wins, we do not have to worry as investigation agencies will not continue to be misused. But if BJP wins, CM will continue to be Kejriwal because the people of Delhi want him there.”

Conversely, BJP functionaries have declared their intention to amplify demands for Kejriwal’s resignation following the Lok Sabha election results. They argue that the state government cannot effectively function with its Chief Minister behind bars.

</excerpt>

Once again, Delhi faces a bomb scare as Tihar Jail receives threatening emails following similar incidents at schools and hospitals. Jail authorities have alerted the Delhi Police about a bomb threat received via email, echoing recent incidents targeting educational and medical institutions across the city. Days after numerous schools and hospitals in Delhi were targeted with bomb threats via email, Tihar Jail became the latest recipient of such a threat. The prison administration promptly notified law enforcement officials about the alarming message, initiating an investigation into the matter. Fortunately, subsequent searches conducted on the jail premises yielded no evidence of any explosive devices, providing some relief amidst heightened security concerns. Earlier in the day, four hospitals in Delhi, including Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital, GTB Hospital, Dada Dev Hospital, and Hedgewar Hospital, received similar bomb threat emails, prompting swift action from the Delhi Fire Services. This incident follows a pattern of threats directed at hospitals and educational institutions in the city, with previous targets including prominent medical facilities like the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Notably, a significant number of schools in Delhi and even some in Rajasthan’s Jaipur recently received bomb threat emails, causing widespread panic and necessitating evacuations. Law enforcement agencies have been swift in their response, deploying bomb disposal squads and conducting thorough searches to ensure public safety. As investigations into these incidents continue, authorities remain vigilant to thwart any potential threats and maintain peace and security in the region.

</excerpt>

Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, who was temporarily released from Tihar Jail on interim bail, assured attendees at a roadshow today that if they vote for him, he won’t have to go back to jail. “I have to go back to jail after 20 days. If you choose jhadu (AAP’s symbol), I won’t have to go back to jail,” the Chief Minister said.

Mr. Kejriwal’s comeback to the hustle and bustle of campaigning after spending 50 days in jail has injected new energy into AAP, which had been dealing with various challenges. Senior party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj mentioned that this development would also have a significant impact on the INDIA bloc.

Fresh out of jail, the Chief Minister immediately immersed himself in campaigning, conducting a roadshow in Moti Nagar to support Somnath Bharti, the party’s candidate for the New Delhi seat. During the event, he conveyed to the crowd that his absence could affect the progress made for the people.

“If I went back to jail, the BJP would stop your work, free electricity, degrade schools and shut down hospitals and Mohalla Clinics,” said the Chief Minister, accompanied by his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann. “They sent me to jail because I worked for you. The BJP does not want that work of Delhi people are done.”

Delhi votes for its seven Lok Sabha seats on May 25.

The AAP leader, who was arrested in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case, has been granted interim bail until June 1st, coinciding with the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election voting. He is required to surrender on June 2.

The Supreme Court, which was considering the challenge to Mr. Kejriwal’s arrest, unexpectedly decided to hear his bail petition as well. When granting him bail, the judges remarked that he was not a “habitual offender” and took into account the ongoing election.

“There are elections (and) these are extraordinary circumstances, and he is not a habitual offender. This is a question of public interest,” said the bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Datta.

The AAP chief is requested to turn himself in on June 2 by the highest court. The leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was taken into custody on March 21 by the Enforcement Directorate. He is presently detained by the courts and housed at Tihar Jail.

Atishi, an AAP leader and minister in Delhi, says, “This is a victory for democracy and the constitution, since truth has prevailed via the Supreme Court’s ruling, not just for Arvind Kejriwal who was granted intermediate bail. </excerpt>

In a setback for Kavitha, a leader of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), a Delhi court has extended her judicial custody till May 20 in connection with the Delhi liquor excise policy case. This decision comes after her bail applications were dismissed by the court.

Judicial Custody Extension:

Kavitha’s judicial custody in both cases, investigated by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has been extended till May 20. She will continue to be held in Tihar Jail.

The recent dismissal of bail applications by the court means that Kavitha will remain in custody. Advocates Nitesh Rana, P. Mohith Rao, and Deepak Nagar represented her in court, but the pleas for regular bail were denied.

While being taken to Tihar Jail, Kavitha expressed her disappointment, calling it an injustice. She highlighted discrepancies in treatment, mentioning other political figures who have not faced similar legal actions.

Case Details:

The court’s decision follows the investigation into Kavitha’s role in the excise policy case. The ED argued against granting bail, citing concerns about potential tampering.

Kavitha’s case is part of a broader investigation into alleged irregularities related to the excise policy. The court has been actively handling matters related to this case, including the custody of other accused individuals.

The extension of Kavitha’s custody aligns with ongoing legal proceedings in the ED and CBI cases. The court’s decision underscores the seriousness of the allegations and the legal scrutiny surrounding them.

As Kavitha’s custody is extended, the legal battle continues, highlighting the complexities and consequences of the investigations into the Delhi liquor excise policy case involving political figures.

The jail authorities mentioned that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Atishi and Bhagwant Mann had already secured permission for meetings with Kejriwal on April 29 and 30, respectively, by making prior requests. They added that permissions are granted in the order they are requested, and Sunita Kejriwal hadn’t made a prior request.

As per jail regulations, visits are limited to twice a week, with both slots for the upcoming week already allocated. Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21 in connection with a money laundering investigation related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22, which has since been scrapped.

Addressing the Aam Aadmi Party’s claim about the Delhi Chief Minister not receiving insulin, he mentioned overseeing 900-1000 inmates with diabetes and dismissed concerns, stating, “These are not issues, but if people raise it for political issues, I do not enter into that.”

Regarding meal timings and special considerations, he explained, “There is a fixed time for giving food and through a court order, he gets home food. If it takes 5 to 7 minutes till the time it reaches him after checking, it is bound to happen.” Beniwal emphasized managing diabetic patients among the inmate population daily.

He further disclosed the presence of a visiting judge in each jail to inspect facilities and address inmates’ grievances. “Every jail has a visiting judge who checks whether everyone has the health facilities they should have, whether there is medicine, whether the place where the inmates sleep is clean, whether the bathroom is clean, and whether they have access to legal redressal,” he elaborated.

Responding to Arvind Kejriwal’s letter to the Tihar Jail Superintendent, Beniwal stated, “There are 20,000 people living here with me, everyone has some or the other problem, some real, some perceived, but if there are problems, then we have to arrange for their redressal.”

Earlier, Sunita Kejriwal, the wife of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre of monitoring her husband’s every meal and attempting to harm him by denying insulin in jail. The Tihar Jail Administration submitted a report to the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, refuting claims of insulin denial and providing details of Kejriwal’s health status.

Kejriwal’s plea for insulin administration and daily doctor consultations via video conferencing due to his acute diabetes was reserved for an order by the Rouse Avenue Court. He was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the Delhi Excise Policy case, with his judicial custody extended until April 23 by the trial court on April 15. The ED alleged the Aam Adami Party as the primary beneficiary of the proceeds of crime from the alleged liquor scam.

</excerpt>

Tihar Jail administration and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal clashed on Monday. According to AAP Kejriwal has written a letter to the Tihar Jail superintendent under which he had kept his concerns regarding the statements of jail administration about the issue of insulin.

CM Kejriwal had said in his letter, “I have read the statement of Tihar administration in the newspaper. I felt sad after reading the statement. Both the statements of Tihar are false. I am asking for insulin daily. I showed the glucose meter readings and said that the sugar is going very high three times a day. Sugar goes between 250 to 320.”

The convenor of the party further said that he had always asked for the insulin. He further claimed that his sugar level was always hovered in the range of 160-200 every day. He said that he had asked for the insulin everyday. He further questioned Tihar Jail about how they can say that I never asked for the insulin.

As per party sources, he further asked about the AIIMS doctor ‘Nothing to worry about’ statement. “AIIMS doctors never said that there was nothing to worry about. Doctors of AIIMS have said that they will give advice after looking at the data and history.” The Tihar administration is lying under political pressure.”

He alleged that Tihar jail administration is under political pressure.

Recently, the Delhi court on Monday, had declined a plea of Kejriwal which demanded the directions for the Tihar jail authorities for administering insulin and get consultation through video conference daily from the doctor for 15 minutes. In respect to his acute diabetes and changing blood sugar level.

Earlier AAP leader Atishi made serious accusations against the Tihar officials and Enforcement Directorate (ED) alleging that a conspiracy is made to make sure that Arvind Kejriwal doesn’t get insulin.
