Residents humorously celebrated with a cake, chanting “Happy Birthday, Chor.” Despite the brief celebration, the thief was eventually handed over to the police.
</excerpt>

In a bizarre incident in a Delhi residential society, a thief caught in the act tried to avoid arrest by pleading it was his birthday. Surprisingly, instead of calling the authorities right away, the residents decided to humor him and threw a birthday celebration. The thief’s plea, though, did not save him from his fate, as he was eventually handed over to the police.

The unusual event was on June 30, 2022, when three people attempted to break into a flat that was locked. The trespassers were chased by local residents. Two of the suspects escaped, but the youngest was caught by the vigilant locals.

As the thief appeared to be seized, he prayed for mercy, arguing that it happened on his birthday. The neighbours, not immediately asking him to submit, ordered for a birthday cake, even to write ‘chor”‘(the thief) above it and further decorate it using symbols of those tools he used breaking into the residence. Amid ‘Happy Birthday Chor’ chorus and playful hitting on his head, the ‘chor’ briefly came to be central to an incongruous celebrations.

After the merry play, he was handed over to the police for his crime, his birthday wish failing to grant him an escape. The video, showing the bizarre scene of birthday chants and cake, quickly went viral. Social media users responded with sarcasm, as one said, “What a way to celebrate a ‘birthday’—with a police escort!” Another sarcastically said, “Maybe he’ll think twice before choosing his next crime ‘gift.'” The third one made light of it, saying, “A thief and a birthday cake — that’s one for the books!undefined

</excerpt>

A strange incident unfolded at a Shiv Temple in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a man was filmed stealing a copper pot after performing a ritual. The CCTV footage, which went viral on social media, shows the man praying and performing Jal Abhishek on the Shivling before committing the theft.

On Sunday, September 15, at 7:49 AM, the man arrived at the temple on a two-wheeler. He first opened the channel gates, entered with a bag, and folded his hands in prayer. He then removed the lid from a copper pot to perform Jal Abhishek. After using the pot, he glanced outside and attempted to steal a metal bell. When that effort failed, he shifted his focus to the copper pot.

Pouring the remaining water over the Shivling, the thief took the pot from its holder, placed it in his bag, and walked away, closing the gate behind him.

The 38-year-old suspect had broken into an apartment in the Prati district through a balcony but became fixated on a book about Homer’s Iliad, Giovanni Nucci’s *The Gods at Six O’Clock*, which he found on the bedside table. Despite the homeowner, a 71-year-old, confronting him, the thief was so absorbed in reading that he seemed oblivious to his surroundings. He was eventually caught trying to flee through the same balcony.

Giovanni Nucci, the book’s author, was thrilled by the news. “It’s fantastic. I’d like to find the person caught red-handed and give him the book because he’ll have been arrested halfway through reading it. I’d like him to be able to finish it,” Nucci told *Il Messaggero*.

The thief claimed to the police that he had climbed the balcony intending to visit a friend and had mistaken the apartment for a bed and breakfast. “I thought I had ended up in a B&B, saw the book, and started to read it,” he told BBC. He was also found with a bag containing expensive clothing stolen from another location earlier that evening.

In a related incident, a thief in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, fell asleep while robbing a house in June. The intoxicated burglar, who had broken in and stolen items, turned on the air conditioner and dozed off, only to be arrested by police the next morning. The house belonged to Dr. Sunil Pandey, who was away on official duty.

The individual, who has completed a master’s degree in law from a prestigious Chinese university, was apprehended after police released video footage revealing his illicit activities.

According to reports, the man replaced the legitimate QR code at several temples with his own personal codes. This deceitful maneuver redirected donations intended for the temples into his bank account. The theft, which reportedly amounted to over $4,200 (approximately ₹3.5 lakh), occurred in temples across Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing provinces this year.

The crime came to light when footage from the Famen Temple in Baoji city showed the suspect placing his own QR code over the temple’s donation box while bowing before a Buddha statue. This video, released by Shaanxi police, demonstrated the man’s method of stealing donations and involving in scam. After being caught, he confessed to using the same technique at other Buddhist sites. Authorities have confirmed that he returned all the stolen money following his arrest.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man named Ghanashyam was arrested in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on charges of stealing valuables from temples. Ghanashyam, who has been involved in over 50 temple thefts, was detained after a lengthy investigation. He was implicated in thefts at the Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parmeswari temple in Jeypore and another temple in Rayagada district.

</excerpt>

A thief experienced a wave of guilt upon realizing that the house he had burglarized belonged to a notable Marathi poet, leading him to return the stolen items, according to police reports on Tuesday.

The incident took place at the residence of the late Narayan Surve, a celebrated Marathi poet and social activist, in Neral, Raigad district. Surve, who passed away on August 16, 2010, at the age of 84, was renowned for his poetry that vividly portrayed the struggles of the urban working class. His daughter Sujata and her husband, Ganesh Ghare, currently reside in the house.

During a recent trip to visit their son in Virar, the couple left their home locked for ten days. It was during this period that the thief broke in and stole several items, including an LED TV. However, when the thief returned the following day to collect more items, he noticed Surve’s photograph and memorabilia, triggering a deep sense of remorse.

The thief, who appeared to be well-read, decided to return all the stolen goods. He left a note on the wall, expressing his regret and asking for forgiveness for stealing from the home of such a distinguished literary figure. Sujata and her husband discovered the note upon their return from Virar on Sunday, as confirmed by Police Inspector Shivaji Dhavle of the Neral police station.

The police are continuing their investigation, utilizing fingerprints found on the TV and other items to identify the culprit.

Narayan Surve’s life story is one of remarkable resilience. </excerpt>

In a harrowing incident, a thief in Delhi stole a car with two children inside, prompting a frantic ransom demand of Rs 50 lakh from the parents. The dramatic turn of events unfolded late Friday night in the Laxmi Nagar area.

According to police reports, the parents had momentarily left their two children, aged two and eleven, inside a parked car with the engine running and the air conditioning on while they visited a nearby confectionery shop, Heera Sweets. During this brief absence, the thief seized the opportunity, opened the car door, and drove off with the children still inside.

Upon returning to the car, the parents discovered it missing along with their children. Shortly after, the kidnapper contacted the children’s mother via her phone, demanding a hefty ransom for their safe return.

Swift action by the Delhi Police ensued as soon as the complaint was lodged. A rescue team launched a high-speed chase involving approximately 20 police vehicles, tracking the kidnapper through technical surveillance. After a tense three-hour pursuit spanning multiple districts, the thief abandoned the vehicle with the children unharmed inside and managed to evade capture.

“The kidnapper kept changing routes to evade police, ultimately abandoning the vehicle in Wazirabad. He fled the scene upon realizing the police were closing in,” explained Additional DCP East, Avnish Kumar. Authorities recovered the children safely and returned them to their relieved parents.

Police discovered that the kidnapper, armed with a hammer and a knife, left behind valuables including jewellery and mobile phones in the haste to escape capture. CCTV footage from the area is being scrutinized to identify and apprehend the suspect, with investigations ongoing.

“The suspect will be apprehended soon as our investigation progresses,” assured Kumar, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to bring the perpetrator to justice.

The incident has sparked concern over child safety and vigilance, urging parents to exercise caution and avoid leaving children unattended in vehicles, even momentarily.

The incident occurred early on Sunday in Lucknow’s Indiranagar area. Upon finding the house empty, the thief broke in, stole valuables, and then took a break in the air-conditioned room, where he eventually fell asleep. Alerted by the open front gate, neighbors contacted the owner of the house, who was in Varanasi at the time.

Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered the thief asleep in the air-conditioned room, holding a mobile phone in his right hand, as seen in a viral photo. The thief has been arrested and charged under IPC section 379 A.

</excerpt>

The Delhi Police uncovered a novel style of theft orchestrated by Rajesh Kapoor, who managed to execute robberies at airports across India, boarding over 200 flights and traveling extensively within the country for over 100 days in 2023. This modus operandi came to light when multiple passengers reported significant losses of valuables from their luggage.

Kapoor’s arrest in Delhi’s Paharganj followed a meticulous investigation involving the scrutiny of CCTV footage from airports in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Amritsar. His method involved targeting passengers with connecting flights, particularly focusing on elderly and female travelers. Kapoor would observe their behavior, sometimes even obtaining details about the valuables in their luggage from baggage declaration slips.

The accused would strategically request seat changes to position himself near the targeted passenger, often pretending to adjust bags in the overhead compartments during boarding. He would then discreetly steal jewelry and other valuables while passengers were distracted.

To evade detection, Kapoor provided fake contact information during flight bookings, ensuring his phone number was registered under someone else’s name. Despite running a guest house and other businesses in Delhi, he managed to successfully steal from passengers at airports across the country, amassing a significant amount of stolen jewelry.

Kapoor’s arrest sheds light on a sophisticated form of theft within highly secured airport premises, posing a significant challenge for law enforcement agencies.

 Pakistan’s newly appointed finance minister Ishaq Dar encountered an embarassing situation at the Washington airport in the US as he arrived in the country to attend meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Angry protesters “welcomed” the minister with chants of “liar” and “chor” (thief).

When Dar landed at the US airport, a loud protester could be heard “You’re lying. Both “Chor-Chor” and “You are a liar.” As shown in a video that was extensively circulated on social media, Dar and his aides were obviously furious by the barrage of obscenities directed at the minister. Dar replied to the person who was calling him names, “You are a liar. One of Dar’s companions was heard stating, “Mothr fker…I’ll f*k you right now, don’t try to be a smart a.” This was all documented on tape, and the video quickly gained popularity.

During foreign trips, a Pakistani minister has already been subjected to public insults.
The Information Minister, Marriyum Aurangzeb, had previously endured jeers at a coffee shop in London last month. Upon entering Masjid-e-Nabawi in Madina, the team led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was in Saudi Arabia for a three-day official visit, was given a “beautiful welcome.”
When they observed the delegation travelling to Masjid-e-Nabawi, pilgrims shouted “chor chor” (thieves).
Marriyum Aurangzeb, the minister of information, and Shahzain Bugti, a member of the National Assembly, were all visible in a video. The Pakistani daily claims that Aurangzeb subtly attributed the demonstration to former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

“I will not name this person on this holy land because I do not want to use this land for politics. But they have destroyed the [Pakistani] society,” The Express Tribune quoted Aurangzeb as saying.
