This method melts internal plastic, allowing the lock to open easily—raising major security concerns.
</excerpt>

From the iconic and bulky Aligarh locks to today’s sleek smart locks, people have always trusted different mechanisms to safeguard their homes. Yet, burglars seem to stay a step ahead, constantly innovating ways to break in — and now, they’ve found a silent and shockingly quick method that takes just 30 seconds.

Lock Breaking Just Got Easier

Earlier, breaking into a house used to involve hammering or brute force — methods that created enough noise to alert the entire neighbourhood. Expensive locks resistant to force once gave families a sense of security.

But those days may be over.

A new trick that has recently surfaced — and is being openly explained in viral videos — shows thieves injecting petrol into locks using a syringe. The fuel is then ignited using a matchstick. Once the flames die out, the lock opens effortlessly with a gentle push.

Thieves Reveal the “Secret” Method

According to a thief featured in one such viral clip, “The lock opens within 30 seconds. We inject petrol using a syringe and set it on fire. After the flame dies, we can just push it open.”

He further explained that many locks contain a plastic membrane inside the mechanism. When heated, the plastic melts, and the lock loses its ability to resist pressure.

Internet Reacts: “A Training Video for Thieves”

The video has received widespread attention and sparked mixed reactions online. One user commented, “This seems more like a training video for thieves than an awareness message.” Others worried that more criminals could now adopt this method, making many households vulnerable.

This revelation serves as a reminder that no lock is truly foolproof — especially in the age of social media, where even criminal tactics go viral.

</excerpt>

A couple in Pune lost gold jewelry valued at ₹4.9 lakh after a man stole their bag while they were stopped for vada pav. The incident, captured on CCTV, shows the thief picking up the bag as the couple was momentarily distracted. The video has gone viral, shocking viewers and accumulating over six lakh views.

The couple, Dashtrath Babaulal Dhamne, 69, and his wife Jayashree, residents of White Field Society, Manjari, were on their way home after retrieving the gold from the State Bank of India (SBI), where it had been pledged for a loan. They stopped at a vada pav shop on Pune-Solapur road. While Dashtrath was getting food, Jayashree stayed by their scooter. The video shows her inspecting something at the back of the vehicle when a man in a white shirt approaches, grabs the bag, and walks away. Jayashree notices him and begins shouting for help.

The footage has sparked a range of reactions online. Some users speculated that the thief had been following the couple from the bank, waiting for an opportunity. Others criticized the couple for not securing their valuables better:

“They don’t look like random thieves; they must have been following them from the bank itself and took their chance when they got the opportunity,” said one X user.

Another commented, “Stupid people who don’t know how to secure precious things. Will lose one way or another. Who would hang a purse like that if it had so much gold?”

A third user posted, “Leaving gold like this or even a bag like this in the open without any supervision, what result do you expect?”

A fourth wrote, “It was clearly the fault of the couple. How could they be so careless to keep that outside? The wife was even more careless, and the robber was following them. He knew what he wanted to do.”

The stolen bag also contained a mobile phone and bank documents. The thief escaped by quickly getting into a vehicle.

Surya concluded his post with a warning to fellow Bengaluru residents, urging them to stay alert and avoid leaving valuables in their cars to prevent similar incidents.

The incident highlights the growing concerns over public safety in Bengaluru, particularly in busy areas like Indiranagar. Residents are calling for increased vigilance and quicker police action to curb such crimes.

</excerpt>

A law graduate in China has been arrested for embezzling donation money from Buddhist temples by using a fraudulent QR code scheme. The individual, who has completed a master’s degree in law from a prestigious Chinese university, was apprehended after police released video footage revealing his illicit activities.

According to reports, the man replaced the legitimate QR code at several temples with his own personal codes. This deceitful maneuver redirected donations intended for the temples into his bank account. The theft, which reportedly amounted to over $4,200 (approximately ₹3.5 lakh), occurred in temples across Shaanxi, Sichuan, and Chongqing provinces this year.

The crime came to light when footage from the Famen Temple in Baoji city showed the suspect placing his own QR code over the temple’s donation box while bowing before a Buddha statue. This video, released by Shaanxi police, demonstrated the man’s method of stealing donations and involving in scam. After being caught, he confessed to using the same technique at other Buddhist sites. Authorities have confirmed that he returned all the stolen money following his arrest.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old man named Ghanashyam was arrested in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on charges of stealing valuables from temples. Ghanashyam, who has been involved in over 50 temple thefts, was detained after a lengthy investigation. He was implicated in thefts at the Sri Vasavi Kanyaka Parmeswari temple in Jeypore and another temple in Rayagada district.

Insurance premiums for new Land Rovers and Range Rovers have surged. In May alone, 25 of these vehicles were stolen in Cambridgeshire, according to local police reports.

One Range Rover owner was quoted £10,000 for insurance.

Former Top Gear host and The Sun columnist Jeremy Clarkson commented on the thefts: “This sent insurance companies into a tizzy and now getting cover is both expensive and tricky.”

Some drivers in London have found it difficult to secure insurance for their cars, prompting Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to establish its own insurance division to offer policies.

Patrick McGillycuddy, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover UK, stated: “We are constantly developing our systems and security features and through our close collaboration with police, we stay ahead of any emerging methods and quickly deploy anti-theft measures. This additional investment, coupled with our other ongoing and proactive action, shows our commitment to supporting the authorities in having a tangible impact on combating this issue in the UK.”

JLR is collaborating with police to share information, recover stolen vehicles, and train 650 officers, while also enhancing the security of its vehicles.

Insurance costs for Range Rover owners are increasing significantly. Meryl Cabellos told BBC News that his insurance costs rose from £2,000 to £4,000 last year, with the best quote this year reaching £10,000.

The Sun Online has reached out to Land Rover for additional comments.

Car insurance prices have been rising generally, not just for Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Research from Confused.com in January indicated that motorists paid 58 percent more for insurance in 2023 compared to the previous year, marking the seventh consecutive increase.

The data showed that the average car insurance price in the UK is now nearing £1,000, with an average increase of £366 over the past year, bringing the average cost to £995 – the highest on record in the UK.

In other news, a car dealer purchased a £950 Land Rover that could be resold for five times that price. Additionally, a retrofitted Land Rover with a full EV conversion by engineering firm Bedeo has been launched, preserving the classic heritage of the Land Rover Defender 110.

An iconic Land Rover, previously owned by Brooklyn Beckham, has been listed on eBay for £46,000, featuring a £500 luxury sound system. Both Brooklyn Beckham and his father, Three Lions legend David Beckham, have been seen driving the vehicle over the years.

The $100 million heist was done by North Korean hacking groups Lazarus Group and APT38 carried out the cyber heist on crypto firm harmony last June, The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said in a statement on Monday.

A part of the $60 million in Ethereum seized during the heist was routed to other virtual asset service providers and converted to Bitcoin, according to the FBI, who also revealed that North Korean cyber attackers utilised the privacy protocol Railgun to do so earlier this month.

California-based Harmony said in June that hackers had stolen $100 million in digital currency via Horizon bridge, a so-called blockchain bridge used to transfer cryptocurrency across several blockchain networks.

The FBI is still working to “identify and disrupt” the efforts of those trying to steal and launder cryptocurrency. The threat of this money being used to support the illegal development of weapons of mass destruction by North Korea.

“The FBI will continue to expose and combat the DPRK’s use of illicit activities — including cybercrime and virtual currency theft — to generate revenue for the regime,” the FBI said, referring to the acronym of the country’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

According to South Korea’s intelligence service, North Korean hackers stole an estimated $1.2 billion worth of virtual assets over the previous five years, including 800 billion won ($650.5 million) in 2022 alone.

North Korea has denied conducting cyberattacks abroad and charged the US and its allies with “spreading ill-hearted rumours,” breaking its usual policy of not interacting with foreign media.
