Those interested in purchasing the Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV will soon have their chance. Mahindra is set to open bookings for the five-door Thar Roxx starting October 3. This announcement comes more than a month after the SUV’s launch on August 14, where it debuted at a starting price of ₹12.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Last month, Mahindra also revealed the pricing for the higher-end variants, which can reach up to ₹22.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Thar Roxx will be the ninth SUV added to Mahindra’s lineup, joining other popular models like the Scorpio-N, XUV700, Thar, and XUV 3XO. Notably, the Thar Roxx is the first lifestyle SUV to offer advanced features such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated seats. The vehicle has generated considerable interest among potential buyers, especially since test drives began on September 14.

Variants and Pricing

The Mahindra Thar Roxx SUV will come in six different variants, featuring both petrol and diesel engines. Buyers can choose between Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) options, with a choice of either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission. The starting price for the base RWD variant is ₹12.99 lakh, while the top-end AX7L variant is priced at ₹20.49 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Thar Roxx features a powerful 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine generating 174 bhp and 380 Nm of torque, alongside a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine that produces 172 bhp and 370 Nm of torque.

Booking Process and Payment

Starting October 3, Mahindra will accept bookings for the Thar Roxx, just a day after celebrating its Founders’ Day. While the official booking amount has not been confirmed, reports suggest that potential buyers may need to pay ₹21,000 to secure their SUV. Bookings can be made through Mahindra’s official online platform or at the nearest dealership.

Delivery Timeline and Waiting Period

Mahindra plans to begin delivering the Thar Roxx to customers starting October 12, coinciding with the Dussehra festival. Delivery is expected to ramp up around Diwali, which is at the end of October. Although official bookings haven’t started yet, some dealers have already begun accepting unofficial bookings. Reports indicate that customers may face a waiting period of up to three months, depending on factors such as the chosen variant and dealership location.

New Interior Theme Introduced

In response to feedback regarding the initial all-white interior theme, Mahindra has now introduced a new color option for the Thar Roxx. The darker Premium Moch Brown color theme addresses concerns about maintenance, offering buyers a more practical choice.

Daughter’s right to inherit property?

My friend’s mother passed away recently. Soon after her brother asked her to sign a couple of documents relinquishing her share completely. I asked her why she submitted passively into this act of foregoing her share, when even the law allows daughters the right to inherit their parents’ property. All she said was “for the sake of family harmony… I want to maintain my relationship with whoever is left of my family now, at any cost.” All this even when she herself (and husband) had invested into a premium apartment and often felt cash strapped whenever the hefty annual instalment had to be paid to the builder. But she did what had to be done – making a few appearances in courts and registration authorities and signing a series of papers – all for “maintaining family bonds.”

Women are often brought up with the notion that they do not have a claim over ancestral property, which is meant to stay within the “male lineage.” There is often an expectation that women, especially daughters, should prioritize family harmony over their legal rights. Claiming inheritance can be seen as a challenge to family unity or as “greedy” behaviour. Believe it or not, many families perceive the dowry or marriage expenses given to a daughter as her share of the inheritance, thus dissuading her from claiming property rights.

But does the law say about women’s rights to inheritance? Yes, women in India can inherit property, but the specifics depend on the religion, personal laws, and recent legal amendments. For Hindus (including Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists), the Hindu Succession Act, 1956 governs property inheritance. The 2005 amendment to this Act was a landmark step toward gender equality. Daughters have the same rights as sons in inheriting ancestral property. They are recognized as coparceners (joint-heirs) in a Hindu Undivided Family (HUF) and have equal rights in ancestral property. The daughter’s right to property is independent of her marital status. Whether she is married or unmarried, she retains her rights. Even after the father’s death, a daughter retains her rights in the property.

For Muslims, property inheritance is governed by personal law (Sharia). Women can inherit property, but the share is typically half that of a male counterpart (e.g., a son receives double the share of a daughter). A widow is also entitled to a share of her husband’s property. The division of property is based on principles laid out in the Quran, and the shares vary depending on the number of heirs.

For Christians, Parsis, and those who don’t fall under Hindu, Muslim, or other religious personal laws, the Indian Succession Act, 1925 applies. Under this Act, men and women have equal rights to inherit property.

Several Supreme Court rulings in recent years have reinforced women’s rights to inherit property. For example, a landmark judgment in August 2020 clarified that daughters have equal rights in ancestral property, regardless of whether the father was alive or deceased before the 2005 amendment.

But rights and duties go hand in hand. Both sons and daughters are equally responsible for the emotional, physical, mental well being of their parents. Daughters claiming equal rights must shoulder equal responsibility when it comes to their parents. One can’t play the “traditional” card (of sons having full responsibility) and the “modernity” card (of daughters having equal rights) as per convenience. These double standards will not work, and that is simply being not true to oneself. Also when the son is not able to keep parents due to any issues of being outside the country or an unsupportive spouse etc, the daughters have to take the lead and initiative. If we embrace modernity of “equal rights” we must embrace “equal responsibility” in the same breath.

Gurugram Police Orders: No Vehicle To Be Stopped, No Challans At Night

Air India revealed its annual salary increments and introduced an annual target performance bonus for pilots, marking the first appraisal process since Tata Group took over the struggling airline over two years ago.

The monthly salary increase for pilots ranges from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000, depending on their experience and position, with an annual target performance bonus of up to Rs 1.80 lakh, sources stated.

Air India’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Ravindra Kumar GP, announced the salary increments and performance bonus payouts for FY 2023-24, effective from April 1, 2024. The appraisals cover all employees who joined before December 31, 2023, including ground staff, cabin crew, and pilots, and are based on the new Performance Management System.

In addition to the fixed pay increase for FY 2023-24, the airline introduced an annual target performance bonus for pilots based on company and individual performance, applicable from FY 2024-25.

The monthly fixed pay for first officers and captains will increase by Rs 5,000 each, while for commanders and senior commanders, it will rise by Rs 11,000 and Rs 15,000, respectively. However, there will be no hike for junior first officers.

The annual target performance bonus will be determined by company and individual performance, with junior first officers, first officers, and commanders eligible for bonuses ranging from Rs 42,000 to Rs 1.32 lakh annually. Senior commanders could receive up to Rs 1.80 lakh.

This marks the first appraisal of Air India staff since the Tata Group takeover in January 2022. The airline, amidst a five-year transformation plan, aims to foster a performance-driven and meritocratic culture among its 18,000 employees. The recent initiatives include transitioning to a simplified, market-competitive compensation structure and introducing the Vihaan.AI performance appraisal process.

The court noted that all the offences listed in the FIR are bailable, making anticipatory bail inapplicable. This case involves the alleged assault of a female journalist and a video journalist at the AAP office on Rouse Avenue.

Additional Sessions Judge Ram Lal Meena rejected the anticipatory bail, deeming it non-maintainable after reviewing the Delhi Police’s reply and the Public Prosecutor’s arguments, which confirmed the bailable nature of the offences.

Vikas Kumar Yogi’s plea, filed by Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj, argued there was a genuine fear of arrest. However, police contended that since all offences are bailable, the application was not maintainable. It was also mentioned that the female journalist’s statement needed to be recorded in court.

Advocate Rajat Bhardwaj argued the incident on May 20, 2024, involved a forced entry and misbehavior by the journalist and her cameraman. He added that before this FIR, Yogi had lodged a complaint, but no FIR was filed in response. Instead, an FIR was lodged against Yogi without being uploaded or shared with him until the court ordered it.

Delhi Police’s reply indicated that a custodial interrogation was necessary to identify other accused individuals. The court questioned this, asking, “If the offence is bailable, then why is custodial interrogation required? As of now, the offences are bailable. We don’t know when new sections will be added.”

The Additional Public Prosecutor (APP) clarified this was a typographical error, a claim the defense challenged. The court reiterated, “If offences are bailable, then anticipatory bail is not maintainable.”

Noting all submissions, the court concluded, “All the offences are bailable as of now. Therefore, the bail application is not maintainable. It is dismissed as not maintainable.”

Two days prior, an FIR detailed an incident involving Vikas Yogi and others, where a Times Now News Channel reporter and a video journalist were allegedly assaulted, their camera broken, and subjected to “derogatory language” and “threats” by 8-10 people who dragged them out of the building.

The Delhi High Court is set to hear a plea on Friday seeking the disqualification of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from elections for six years. The petitioner alleges that PM Modi violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by seeking votes for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the name of religious deities and places of worship during his campaign for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024.

The plea, filed by lawyer Anand S Jondhale, accuses PM Modi of making speeches that have the potential to create hatred among voters on the lines of caste and religion. Jondhale specifically refers to PM Modi’s speech in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, on April 9, where he allegedly sought votes in the name of Hindu and Sikh deities and made comments against opposing political parties as favoring Muslims.

In his April 9 speech, PM Modi had criticized the INDIA bloc leaders for rejecting an invite related to the ‘pran pratistha’ of Lord Ram and had attacked the Congress over its manifesto, likening it to that of the Muslim League.

“The Petitioner further submits that the Respondent No.2 (Prime Minister Modi) is on the run of making the same violative speech throughout India while travelling in aircraft and helicopters of the Government of India,” the plea states.

Jondhale seeks to restrain PM Modi from seeking votes in the name of religious deities and places of worship and also requests the Election Commission to disqualify him from elections for six years under the Representation of Peoples Act.

Jondhale had previously filed a complaint before the Election Commission (EC) regarding the same, but alleges that no action has been taken.

However, reports suggest that PM Modi is likely to receive a clean chit from the EC in this matter. The EC is expected to say that PM Modi’s references to the construction of the Ram Temple, the development of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor, and the government’s action of bringing back copies of the Guru Granth Sahib from Afghanistan do not constitute an appeal to vote in the name of religion.

However, this didn’t happen. According to the film exhibitor Akshay Rathi, the film generated minimal revenue in its first week and failed to garner any attention. He added the box office performance is disappointing and “nothing to write about”

He further said the film’s lifetime collection would be between Rs 3 crore and Rs 5 crore.

“It’s bare minimal, the movie is virtually on all tracks gone unnoticed. The lifetime collection would be less than 3-5 crores,” he told ‘The Daily Guardian.’

The movie is a sequel to the 2010 hit ‘Love Sex Aur Dhoka’ that starred Rajkumar Rao, Neha Chauhan, and Nushrratt Bharuccha.

‘LSD’ was a huge success at the box office at the time of its release. However, the sequel failed to match its standards.

‘LSD 2’ is directed by Dibakar Banerjee and co-produced by Cult Movies and Balaji Telefilms. Apart from Mouni Roy, Tusshar Kapoor, Sophie Choudry, Anu Malik, the sequel features Paritosh Tiwari, Bonit Rajpurohit, and Abhinav in pivotal roles.

JDU leader shot dead in Bihar’s Patna

Janata Dal-United (JDU) leader Saurabh Kumar was fatally shot by motorcycle-borne attackers in Patna on Wednesday night, according to police reports. The incident occurred as Saurabh Kumar was returning from a wedding reception. One of his companions was also injured in the attack.

“Saurabh Kumar came with his friends to attend a reception function. While returning he was shot by unidentified assailants who were on a motorcycle. Then he was taken to hospital and one other person named Munmun Kumar also sustained injuries. They were taken to Kankarbagh Uma hospital, however, by then Saurabh Kumar died. We are examining the matter,” said SDPO Masaurhi, Kanhaiya Singh.

Authorities have launched a search for the perpetrators, and further details are awaited.
