The Guardian Exits Elon Musk’s X, Citing ‘Toxic Atmosphere’ And ‘Disturbing Content’

Britain’s The Guardian announced on Wednesday that it will cease posting content from its official accounts on Elon Musk’s platform, X, citing the platform’s “toxic media” environment and prevalence of “often disturbing content.”

The newspaper, which has nearly 11 million followers on X, stated on its website, “We think that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives.” The publication noted that their “resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere.”

The Guardian clarified that the decision had been under consideration for some time due to concerns about “often disturbing content” on X, including far-right conspiracy theories and racist material. The recent U.S. presidential election, they added, only reinforced their belief that X has become “a toxic media platform” under Musk’s leadership.

The account @guardian remains active but now displays a message that it has been archived, directing followers to its website for news updates.

Although The Guardian will no longer post directly to X, the platform’s users will still be able to share its articles, and the outlet may “occasionally embed content from X” in news articles as needed. Reporters also retain the option to use the platform independently for their work.

The Guardian acknowledged that social media remains a valuable tool for news organizations to engage with new audiences but emphasized that X “now plays a diminished role in promoting our work.”

Musk, who bought X (formerly Twitter) in 2022 for $44 billion, has frequently sparked controversy with his posts and recent political stances. Throughout the U.S. presidential election cycle, Musk expressed strong support for Donald Trump, posting content favoring the Republican candidate and drawing criticism for amplifying divisive messages. Trump recently announced Musk’s upcoming role in his administration as head of the new Department of Government Efficiency, alongside businessman Vivek Ramaswamy.

Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal Leaves For India To Attend Modi’s Swearing-In Ceremony

Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ departed for India on Sunday afternoon for a two-day visit. He flew to New Delhi to attend the swearing-in ceremony of his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi, scheduled for this evening.

The PM Modi-led NDA (National Democratic Alliance) secured a historic third term in power following the announcement of the results of the parliamentary elections.

At the invitation of PM Modi, Dahal left for India from the VVIP terminal of the Tribhuvan International Airport. His accompanying delegation included his daughter Ganga Dahal, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Padam Giri, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, Head of South Asia Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bhrigu Dhungana, Chief of Protocol Bishnu Prasad Gautam, Protocol Officer Prabin Bhattarai, and three security personnel of the prime minister, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Dahal is among the distinguished guests invited to attend the grand swearing-in ceremony of PM Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening.

PM Modi will begin his third consecutive term as prime minister after the BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections. He becomes the second Indian leader to win a third term after founding prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru.

Alongside Narendra Modi, members of his council of ministers will also take their oath this evening.

Several leaders and state heads from neighboring and Indian Ocean regions have been invited to PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as distinguished guests, demonstrating India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in an official statement on Saturday said, “President of Sri Lanka, Ranil Wickremesinghe; President of Maldives, Mohamed Muizzu; Vice-President of Seychelles, Ahmed Afif; Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina; Prime Minister of Mauritius, Pravind Kumar Jugnauth; Prime Minister of Nepal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’; and Prime Minister of Bhutan, Tshering Tobgay, have accepted the invitation to attend.”

Meanwhile, highlighting the significance of the event, the MEA emphasised, “The visit of the leaders to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his third consecutive term is in keeping with the highest priority accorded by India to its ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and ‘SAGAR’ vision.”

Furthermore, the MEA noted that in addition to attending the swearing-in ceremony, the leaders will also be present at a banquet hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan later in the same evening.

Nepal’s former Prime Minister Sushil Koirala attended the inaugural swearing-in ceremony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014. The ceremony was referred to as a mini-SAARC summit as it was attended by member nations of the regional organization.

The subsequent swearing-in ceremony also garnered attention as Modi extended invitations to countries from the BIMSTEC group. Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli attended Modi’s second swearing-in ceremony in May 2019.

Amid ongoing health issues, King Charles was taken to a hospital in London for cancer treatment on Tuesday, just a day before his historic D-Day speech, which brought Queen Camilla to tears.

According to GB News, the monarch expressed to the doctors his desire to join the veterans and “lead from the front.”

The King, who was cleared by his medical team to resume his Royal duties in April, attended the event. However, on medical advice, his “carefully calibrated” appearance was shortened by 45 minutes.

Doctors are believed to have suggested “compromises,” leading to Prince William standing in for his father at the Omaha Beach celebration in France.

Royal insiders revealed that all events attended by King Charles were reviewed in cooperation with doctors. “They were extremely long days and some compromises had to be made,” they noted.

Meanwhile, a close aide to Prince William mentioned that the Prince of Wales is eager to assist his father, both domestically and internationally.

Speaking to an emotional gathering of veterans during a national commemorative event in Ver-sur-Mer on Thursday, the monarch conveyed his “profound sense of gratitude” to the army heroes who served in 1944.

Both the King and Queen became emotional, with Camilla wiping her eyes as a war veteran shared his heartfelt story with the crowd.

When a soldier inquired about King Charles’s health, the monarch reassured him by saying he is “doing well.”

The King paid tribute to the “remarkable wartime generation,” reminding the audience, “It is with our most profound gratitude that we remember them and all who served at that critical time.”

The Prince of Wales honored soldiers who served “for our freedom” at a Canadian anniversary service on Juno Beach, stating, “All of you demonstrated heroism and determination, that ensured fascism was conquered.”

Charles is set to attend the King’s Foundation Awards on Tuesday, June 11, at St James’ Palace in London.

Additionally, the monarch plans to participate in his birthday parade, known as Trooping the Colour, on June 15. Canadian filmmaker Shawn Levy, currently busy with Marvel’s ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, is reportedly being considered to direct the next Avengers film, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

While the development is in its early stages, Marvel and Levy are said to be discussing the possibility, with the studio sending him the latest script last week. However, other directors are also said to be contending for the coveted role.

This isn’t the first time Marvel has approached Levy. They quietly offered him the directing role back in mid-March, but he declined due to scheduling conflicts. With commitments to ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’, which releases on July 26, and the final season of Stranger Things, where he’s set to direct two episodes and fulfill executive producer duties, Levy’s calendar was packed. However, Marvel’s decision to push back the film’s schedule has opened up an opportunity.

Marvel’s renewed interest in Levy indicates their desire to collaborate again, likely buoyed by the success of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’. Michael Waldron, creator of ‘Loki’, has penned recent drafts of the script, which marks the fifth Avengers movie. Originally subtitled ‘Kang Dynasty’, the film’s direction shifted after Marvel parted ways with actor Jonathan Majors, who was set to play the villain. Director Destin Daniel Cretton also departed from the project in November.

Rare Ceramic Goat Made By King Charles Fetches ₹9 Lakh At Auction

A pottery goat, thought to have been made by King Charles during his time at Cambridge University, was put up for sale in May of this year. The rare ceramic goat was sold for £8,500 (about ₹9 lakh) at an auction in Staffordshire on June 4th. Reports indicate that the total cost, including the premium, for the goat painted with yellow and pink stripes, amounted to £11,407 (approximately ₹12 lakh).

King Charles presented the ceramic goat to Cambridge University’s cook, Helen Patten, as a gift. Subsequently, in 1969, it was given to Patten’s nephew, Raymond Patten, a former carpenter in British Columbia, on his 21st birthday.

Patten, aged 76, decided to auction the goat at Hansons Auctioneers in Staffordshire due to its “historical significance.” It is believed to be the sole piece sculpted by King Charles.

He said, “My Aunt Nellie, Helen Patten, gave me the goat on my 21st birthday on June 22, 1969. She told me Prince Charles had made it.”

Patten mentioned that he had “treasured” the goat throughout his life but felt it was time for the rare artwork to find a new home.

He further disclosed that his aunt had prepared a meal for the Queen Mother. “My aunt, who passed away at the age of 87 in 1993 in Cheshire, used to live at 37 Norfolk Terrace, Cambridge. She was my grandfather’s sister and never married. She was honoured to serve members of the royal family. She cooked a meal for the Queen Mother,” he shared.

King Charles, who held the title of Prince of Wales at the time, attended Cambridge’s Trinity College from 1967 to 1970 to pursue studies in Archaeology, Anthropology, and History.

King Charles and his love for art

King Charles is renowned for his artistic talents. In 2023, a collection of childhood drawings attributed to King Charles was auctioned for £46,000 (around ₹49 lakh). These sketches, created by King Charles at the age of five or six, depicted his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, and his father, The Duke of Edinburgh.

“King Charles has demonstrated a passion for art throughout his life but is mainly known for his paintings. The discovery of this ceramics piece demonstrates another side to his talent. As far as we are aware it is the only example of pottery made by King Charles in existence. It represents his early passion and artistic flare working in ceramics in the late 1960s,” said Charles Hanson, owner of Hansons Auctioneers.

Taiwan Monitors 23 Chinese Military Aircrafts Near Its Borders

Taiwan reported that it tracked 23 Chinese military aircrafts, including fighter jets, transport aircraft, and drones, around the nation, according to the Ministry of National Defence on Tuesday. Out of these aircraft, 16 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan MND posted on social media platform X, stating, “Overall 23 PLA aircraft (J-16, Y-8, UAVs, etc.) were detected at 0820 hrs today. Out of which, 16 crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the north, central, and southwest parts of Taiwan’s ADIZ in conducting joint combat patrol along with PLAN vessels.”

The median line divides the Taiwan Strait, separating the island from China, which Taiwan claims as part of its territory. The sighting of Chinese military aircrafts came shortly after China had sent 19 aircraft, eight naval vessels, and four coast guard ships around Taiwan within the 24 hours ending at 6 a.m. on Tuesday. Taiwan’s Ministry of Defence earlier posted on X, “19 PLA aircraft, 8 PLAN vessels, and 4 CCG vessels operating around Taiwan were detected today. 17 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s northern and SW ADIZ. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”

The MND posted on X, “On June 3, Defence Minister Wellington Koo Li-hsiung visited the Army HQ to receive a briefing on the operational concepts for Taiwan’s ground forces and key future acquisitions to enhance warfighting capabilities.” The post also mentioned that “Minister Koo emphasised the importance of integrating active duty and reserve forces, strengthening command and control for joint operations, and adopting realistic training aligned with our asymmetric warfare strategy.”

Lok Sabha Poll Campaign Gulf: Modi’s 165+ Rallies Outpace Gandhi’s 60

As the Lok Sabha elections heat up, a significant disparity has emerged in the campaign efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. By the end of May 20, Modi will have completed over 165 public rallies and roadshows, with projections suggesting he may approach 200 events by the end of the month. In stark contrast, Rahul Gandhi has held around 60 public rallies, significantly fewer than Modi.

Modi’s campaign has been marked by a relentless pace, with the Prime Minister often participating in two to three events daily, and on some days, as many as four to five. Gandhi, on the other hand, has typically held one to two events on his campaign days.

Bolstering the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) campaign efforts, Home Minister Amit Shah has conducted over 100 campaign events, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has completed 150 events by Sunday.

BJP leaders emphasize the impact of Modi’s rallies, claiming that any appearance by the Prime Minister significantly boosts the party’s chances in both strong and challenging seats. “There is a huge demand for PM rallies from all our candidates. The aim is to cover maximum ground, and the PM has devoted the maximum time in these Lok Sabha elections,” a senior BJP leader told News18.

The BJP’s campaign has also been amplified by a robust digital strategy, with Modi’s rallies and roadshows resonating widely through social media. Modi has conducted more roadshows this year compared to 2019, extending his campaign reach even after sunset. Additionally, the Prime Minister has given close to 50 media interviews this election season, while Rahul Gandhi has given just one, to Network 18.

A senior Congress leader acknowledged the disparity in campaign resources between the two parties, citing financial constraints and Income Tax scrutiny on Congress funds. “This is truly the first digital election with the most effective campaign happening over social media channels. One can see the absence of physical posters and hoardings too this time. The Congress is up in the game on social media and is getting lots of traction there…Rahul Gandhi has done two big Yatras across the country,” the leader said.

The Congress has sought to innovate with impromptu video messages from Rahul Gandhi aimed at young voters. Priyanka Gandhi has focused her campaign efforts on Amethi, while Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has participated in some rallies and press conferences.

Despite these efforts, the BJP’s campaign, led by Modi and Shah, remains unmatched in scale. A senior BJP leader questioned Gandhi’s viability as a serious challenger, given the significantly lower number of campaign events. “Any serious challenger to a two-time incumbent would aim to outdo the PM in the campaign, but the rigour was missing,” the leader noted.

As the campaign enters its final phase, Modi’s pace has only increased, with four rallies on Sunday and four rallies and a roadshow scheduled for Monday across three states. The question remains: will the gap in campaign intensity between Modi and Gandhi be reflected in the election results

A memorial ceremony is being held in Tehran to honor Raisi, Abdollahian, and other Iranian officials who died in the helicopter crash in northwestern Iran on Sunday afternoon. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Hosseini Khamenei has declared five days of national mourning.

According to Press TV, the ceremony is attended by at least 10 heads of state and 30 delegations led by ministers and speakers. Among the dignitaries paying respects to Raisi and the other officials were Azerbaijan Prime Minister Ali Asadov, Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif, Tunisian President Kais Saied, Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, Taliban’s Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, and Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.

VP Dhankhar arrived in Tehran on Wednesday afternoon to offer condolences and participate in the memorial ceremony for President Ebrahim Raisi and other officials. He left for Iran early on Wednesday (May 22).

Meanwhile, thousands in Iran took to the streets as Raisi’s funeral ceremony began on Friday in Tabriz, the northwestern city where the crash occurred on Sunday. President of India Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed their condolences to the Iranian government and people.

The Iranian government declared Wednesday a public holiday. Raisi’s body will be buried in his birthplace, Mashhad, on Thursday, as announced by Vice-President of the Republic, Mohsen Mansouri.

In a post on social media platform X, he acknowledged Raisi’s role in strengthening the India-Iran bilateral relationship, saying, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution to strengthening the India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”

OpenAI is planning to halt the use of the Sky voice in the audible version of ChatGPT following user feedback indicating it closely resembled the voice of actress Scarlett Johansson.

According to a blog post, the company clarified that the voice, one of five available on ChatGPT, was provided by an actress and was not intended to be an “imitation” of Scarlett Johansson. Johansson famously portrayed a fictional virtual assistant in the film ‘Her’, which centers around a man who falls in love with an AI system.

The voices are included in OpenAI’s updated GPT-4o, launched earlier this month, which can respond to users’ verbal questions with audio replies.

Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s NFC Semi-Finals: Mizoram Beat Assam with 5-1

Mizoram secured the final semi-final spot in the Swami Vivekananda U-20 Men’s National Football Championship by defeating Assam 5-1 at the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama Ground on Saturday, May 18, 2024. They held a 2-1 lead at halftime.

Following this commanding win, Mizoram is poised to take on Delhi, who advanced past Kerala in a penalty shootout during the third quarter-final. The upcoming match is scheduled for Monday, May 20, 2024, at the same venue. In the other semi-final on the same day, Karnataka will face Manipur at 7:30 AM IST.

Mizoram, displaying impressive form and having scored 15 goals in the group stage, wasted no time settling in as they took the lead through Lalremtluanga’s free kick in just the second minute. Lalremtluanga executed a flawless strike from the left flank, and despite Assam’s goalkeeper Bikiron Dhekial Phukon’s effort to punch it away, the rebound found its way into the back of the net.

UAE: Emirates Have Openly Decided To Align Themselves With Biden Administration

At the annual Arab League summit in Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is becoming a strong critic of the Palestinian Authority, withholding support for a major budget until Ramallah implements substantial reforms, including stopping payments to terrorists and ending incitement.

“In this way, the Emirates is aligning itself with the American position that strives for a new Palestinian Authority,” a high-level Arab diplomat conveyed to The Press Service of Israel.

Tensions have risen behind the scenes as the Emirates obstructed a proposed resolution to grant the Palestinian Authority USD 100 million monthly, citing issues of corruption and poor leadership. The Emiratis also called for increased financial transparency and anti-corruption measures within the PA, angering the Palestinian delegation.

“The Emiratis practically emptied the initiative to budget the Palestinian Authority of any content,” the diplomatic source explained to TPS-IL. “The refusal of the Emiratis to budget a corrupt authority should not surprise anyone.”

The UAE’s position, which questions President Mahmoud Abbas’s leadership, has gained backing from Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Galant, who is open to recognizing PA authority in a post-war Gaza. Despite this, the PA maintains its boycott of the US and Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, following the US veto of a UN Security Resolution that aimed to grant the Palestinians full UN membership.

“The Emirates have openly decided to align themselves with the Biden administration, which repeats and claims that only a new and reformed Palestinian Authority can be a partner in the eyes of the Americans the day after the war in the Gaza Strip,” the source told TPS-IL.

“The Emiratis have decided to teach the Palestinian Authority a lesson, and they are demanding from it a long series of reforms that will transform it from a Palestinian Authority into a completely different entity. Only when the Palestinian Authority is not Palestinian will it be kosher in the eyes of the Emirates,” he added mockingly.

The UAE is supporting Muhammed Dahlan, a rival of Abbas. Conversations with various Arab sources frequently mention Dahlan as a favored candidate to lead post-war Gaza.

Dahlan, once a prominent figure in Fatah, was the PA’s “strong man” in Gaza when Hamas forcibly took over the Strip in 2007. As Dahlan’s influence in Fatah grew, he clashed with Abbas and was expelled from the party in 2011. He was subsequently tried in absentia in Ramallah on corruption charges, which he denies.

TPS-IL has reported that during a recent Zoom conference of Arab diplomats in April, participants expressed opposition to Abbas’s leadership. Palestinians have not held national elections since 2005, and Abbas is now in the 19th year of a four-year term. Since then, Abbas has canceled multiple election attempts due to Fatah-Hamas conflicts, most recently in 2021.

The US has been urging Abbas to reform the PA as a prerequisite for managing Gaza’s administration and reconstruction. The proposed reforms include reducing the PA’s bloated and inefficient bureaucracy, replacing diplomats representing the PA abroad, and establishing an internal self-investigation mechanism within the Palestinian Preventive Security. Ramallah aims to meet US demands by forming a Palestinian technocratic government that includes “softcore” Hamas members and facilitating indirect “pay-for-slay” funding.

However, there is widespread skepticism in Ramallah about Abbas’s commitment to implementing these reforms. A March survey by the Palestinian Centre for Policy and Survey Research revealed that 81 percent of Palestinians in Judea, Samaria, and Gaza are dissatisfied with Abbas’s leadership, and 84 percent want him to resign.

Palestinians have not held national elections since 2005, and Abbas is now in the 19th year of what was supposed to be a four-year term. Abbas has canceled several election attempts due to Fatah-Hamas disagreements, most recently in 2021.

On October 7, Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border resulted in at least 1,200 deaths and the kidnapping of 240 Israelis and foreigners. Approximately 30 of the remaining 132 hostages are believed to be dead.

OpenAI Integrates ChatGPT With Google Drive

OpenAI has begun rolling out support for Google Drive integration to its AI chatbot, ChatGPT. According to a report from 9To5Google, several ChatGPT Enterprise users have reported that the chatbot now offers the capability to link Google Drive to the platform.

The report states that during a conversation, ChatGPT prompts users with the option to connect apps to the service. In the file attachment menu, users can select “Connect Apps,” which leads to a second page where they can link their Google Drive and OneDrive accounts. However, this feature is currently only available to certain paid-tier Enterprise users.

Once users have linked their Google Drive to ChatGPT, the file attachment menu within the chatbox displays the “Add from Google Drive” option. Similar to the process of uploading a file or document from a local folder to ChatGPT, selecting this new option leads to a file picker within the linked Google Drive.

Although OpenAI has not officially announced this feature, it appears to have begun rolling it out to select users, suggesting a potential wider release in the near future.

Kim Jong-Un’s Sister Dismisses Russia-North Korea Collaboration Claims

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s influential sister dismissed claims of military collaboration between Russia and North Korea on Friday, emphasizing that her country’s weapons are not available for sale to other nations, including Russia according to Yonhap News Agency. She stated that the weapons are solely for defense against South Korea.

Additionally, on Thursday, the US imposed sanctions on three Russian entities and two individuals for their role in transferring military equipment and components between Pyongyang and Moscow amidst the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Kim Yo-jong’s remarks coincide with US assertions that North Korea has provided weapons to Russia to aid the latter’s conflict in Ukraine.

“We have no intention to export our military technical capabilities to any country or open them to the public,” Kim said, adding that such allegations are “the most absurd paradox”, reported Yonhap News Agency citing, the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Kim stated that North Korea’s tactical weaponry, such as multiple rocket launchers and missiles, serve as a deterrent against South Korea’s provocative actions, likely referring to the South Korea-US joint military exercises. Furthermore, North Korea has consistently criticized these military drills by the allies, alleging they are preparations for an invasion, while Seoul and Washington have consistently refuted these claims, asserting that their exercises are defensive in nature.

“What is most urgent for us is not to ‘advertise’ or ‘export’ something but to make the war readiness and war deterrent of our army more perfect in quality and quantity and to make the enemy unable to overcome the inferiority in military capability,” she said.

Meanwhile, South Korea’s unification ministry remarked that North Korea’s denial of supplying weapons to Russia, despite substantial evidence, indicates the regime’s acknowledgment of the illegality of such activities.

“We must once again emphasize that the arms trade between Russia and North Korea is an illegal act that violates the UN Security Council resolutions and undermines international norms,” said Kim In-ae, deputy spokesperson at the ministry, during a press briefing.

Alongside the US imposing sanctions on Russian entities, America also asserted that Russia has depended on North Korea to support its conflict in Ukraine. The US further stated that the partnership between the two nations poses a significant threat to global security and the international non-proliferation regime.

“The United States will continue to take action to hold accountable those who seek to facilitate the shipment of weapons and other material to enable Russia’s war,” Under Secretary of the US Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said in a statement.

As per the statement from the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), at a juncture when the United States and its allies are growingly apprehensive about Russia’s strengthening connections with North Korea, as well as China. The department noted that over the past year, Russia and North Korea have intensified their military collaboration, with Pyongyang supplying ballistic missiles and munitions to Russian forces for use in attacking Ukraine. Additionally, it indicated that North Korea is seeking military support from Russia in exchange.

The United States pledged to persist in taking all essential measures to counter the “destabilizing” partnership between Russia and North Korea, while urging other nations to align with Washington’s endeavors.

NIA Charges Another In Indian Navy Espionage Led By Pakistan

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday filed charges against an additional individual in the Indian Navy espionage case, which involves Pakistani intelligence operatives.

Amaan Salim Shaikh is a central figure in the case, which revolves around a plot by Pakistani agents to ‘honey-trap’ Indian Navy personnel to obtain confidential information about defense establishments.

The counter-terrorism agency, which submitted an additional chargesheet on Friday in the NIA special court at Visakhapatnam, accused Amaan, a Mumbai (Maharashtra) resident, under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

After taking over the case on June 5 last year, the NIA discovered during its investigation that Amaan was collaborating with a suspected Pakistani agent named Usman to advance the anti-India conspiracy.

The investigation revealed that he was also receiving funds from other suspected Pakistani operatives, including Meer Balaj Khan, Alven, and several other individuals, through cryptocurrency channels to carry out tasks assigned by the Pakistani intelligence operatives.

On November 6, 2023, the NIA filed charges against two individuals in relation to the case.

Ongoing investigations into the case, initially lodged at the Counter Intelligence Cell police station of Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh, are currently in progress.

In the video, PM Modi explains that providing free bus rides in a city with a dedicated Metro service to gain electoral favor diverts 50 percent of Metro passengers.

“If you have a dedicated Metro service in the city and offer free bus rides to women just for the sake of winning elections, it means that you are taking away 50 per cent of the Metro passengers. So, the Metro will no longer be a viable commuting option for people,” Prime Minister Modi is heard saying in the video.

An official reported that the New Jalpaiguri Police, a part of the Siliguri Metropolitan Police (SMP), uncovered an illegal SIM box network operation on Thursday. This resulted in the arrest of the suspected mastermind for purportedly operating illegal telephone exchanges through SIM box machines, leading to revenue losses for the Department of Telecom.

The authorities seized three SIM boxes, also known as SIM banks, featuring numerous slots, along with 93 SIM cards, technical devices, counterfeit voter cards, Aadhar cards, licenses, and other documentation.

The apprehended individual has been identified as Md Sabbir, aged 28, residing in Kuyarbari, located near the Indo-Bangladesh border.

As per police officials, acting on intelligence, a specialized team comprising the Special Operation Group (SOG) and the Directive Department (DD), led by Debasish Bose, ACP of Siliguri Metropolitan Police, conducted a raid on a mobile repair shop owned by Md Sabbir in Jatiakhali, Jalpaiguri, situated near the Indo-Bangladesh International border. During the operation, they recovered three SIM boxes, 93 SIM cards, and various other items, including counterfeit documents.

Officers from central agencies have initiated an investigation into the matter. They have also arrived at the police station to interrogate the accused individual.

A SIM box, also known as a SIM bank, serves as a component of a VoIP gateway setup. It comprises multiple SIM cards, connected to the gateway but physically separated and stored apart from it. These SIM cards may belong to different mobile operators, enabling the SIM box to function with multiple GSM gateways positioned in different locations.

BJP Leaders Call For Kejriwal’s Resignation Over Alleged Assault On AAP MP Swati Maliwal

Amid intense discussions regarding the reported assault on AAP Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal by a close aide of the Delhi CM, BJP leaders in the national capital have rallied behind Maliwal and called for action in response to the incident. Shazia Ilmi, a Delhi BJP leader, shared her own encounters with Kumar’s misconduct, leading to additional controversy. The Delhi police also lodged an FIR related to the alleged assault on Thursday evening, identifying the Delhi CM’s personal assistant, Bibhav Kumar.

BJP’s Shazia Ilmi said, “They are defending this for political gain. She (Swati Maliwal) has been beaten. Bibhav Kumar’s job profile is to obey Arvind Kejriwal. I have also tolerated the misbehaviour of that person. Prashant Kumar and Yogendra Yadav were also kicked out by bouncers. But this time they have crossed limits. Is beating up a woman by your PA appropriate? The police have done well. They have reached for her help.”

Additionally, she demanded Kejriwal’s resignation from the position of Chief Minister.

“Kejriwal should resign immediately. It is not right for him to maintain that chair. After getting a female colleague beaten up, he has no reason to be the CM. He should apologize and resign, and there should be immediate criminal action. No one should think that this has been done by Bibhav. All of this has been done by Arvind Kejriwal. Bibhav has done this misbehaviour on the orders of Arvind Kejriwal,” Ilmi alleged.

Delhi BJP President, Virendra Sachdeva, raised questions about Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s silence regarding the issue.

“Finally, Swati Maliwal has broken her silence and she has informed the police about this in her complaint. The police have also registered an FIR against Bibhav Kumar under sections of IPC. I want to ask only one question, Arvind Kejriwal. When such an incident happened with Swati Maliwal at your residence and you were present in the house at that time, why did you allow a woman to be tortured? Why did you not try to stop it? Why are you silent on this?” Sachdeva said.

“You should immediately hand over Bibhav to the police. The entire country, the entire society, stands with Swati Maliwal and every woman with whom such an incident happens,” he added.

Reacting to the incident, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa stated that Swati Maliwal had reported the misconduct done to her. However, he expressed shock that Arvind Kejriwal, who advocates for women’s rights, has yet to take any action against Bibhav Kumar.

On Thursday, the Civil Lines Police registered a case under sections 354, 506, 509, and 323, among other IPC sections. These include offenses such as assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, gestures or acts intended to insult, and assault.

The action was initiated following a formal complaint filed by Swati Maliwal on Thursday. In her complaint, Maliwal alleges that she was “slapped, hit on the stomach, and kicked” by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s PA, Bibhav Kumar.

After the incident, Maliwal was transported to AIIMS Delhi on Thursday night. Sources indicate that the AAP MP arrived there for a medical examination. She was observed leaving the AIIMS hospital around 03:40 am.

In response to the situation, Special Cell and Crime Branch teams have been mobilized to apprehend the accused. Sources mention that efforts are underway to track his whereabouts, with multiple teams from the Delhi Police engaged in the operation.

The Secretary expressed solidarity with Slovakia and his wishes for the Prime Minister’s speedy recovery. Secretary Blinken underlined the enduring bonds between the American and Slovak people. CNN reported on Thursday that a politically motivated “lone wolf” has been charged in the assassination attempt on Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, as stated by the country’s interior minister. Fico’s health remains stable but serious following five close-range shots and surgery, according to his deputy.

The attempted assassination sent shockwaves through the nation in central Europe and sparked global outrage. According to CNN, the 59-year-old populist leader was targeted after an off-site government meeting in the town of Handlova on Wednesday. The leader, who returned to power last year, has faced protests in recent weeks due to his controversial policies.

South Africa Calls On ICJ To Order Israel To Halt Its Attack On Rafah

South Africa has called on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to demand that Israel cease its attack on Rafah, as part of its lawsuit alleging Israel’s genocide against the Palestinians, as reported by Al Jazeera on Thursday.

South Africa, which initiated its case in January regarding Israel’s conflict in Gaza, is requesting further urgent actions concerning its military campaign in Rafah, a city located in the southern Gaza Strip. Rafah has become a refuge for over one million displaced Palestinians fleeing Israeli assaults in other areas of the territory.

During proceedings in The Hague on Thursday, South Africa informed the court that the Palestinian population is enduring “ongoing annihilation,” and the attack on Rafah was “part of the endgame in which Gaza is utterly destroyed”.

Despite “explicit warnings” of potentially “genocidal” repercussions, Israel continues its assaults in Rafah, stated South African lawyer Tembeka Ngcukaitobi. Israel, dismissing South Africa’s assertion that it breaches the 1949 Genocide Convention as groundless, will provide its response on Friday, according to Al Jazeera. Just before the court session commenced, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant affirmed that the heavily scrutinized operation in Rafah “will continue as additional forces will enter”

Rafah, a small and densely populated city, has become a refuge for hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in tents, grappling with the rapid spread of diseases and severe shortages of food and clean water, as reported by Al Jazeera. The sole hospital in the area has closed down, leaving only a small overwhelmed facility to handle medical needs.

Previously, judges at the ICJ issued provisional measures, directing Israel to take steps to alleviate humanitarian suffering in Gaza. Among these measures was ensuring prompt delivery of basic food supplies to Palestinians in Gaza, many of whom are experiencing severe hunger, with some facing famine due to Israel’s complete blockade.

This month, the Israeli military seized and closed the Palestinian side of the Rafah border crossing, a crucial entry point for humanitarian aid between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. Aid organizations have cautioned that the closure has significantly impeded their operations.

South Africa emphasized in a written submission to the court that Rafah serves as Gaza’s primary hub for humanitarian assistance. They asserted that “if Rafah falls, so too does Gaza.”

“The thwarting of humanitarian aid cannot be seen as anything but the deliberate snuffing-out of Palestinian lives. Starvation to the point of famine,” lawyer Adila Hassim said.

Prior to his forthcoming debates with US President Joe Biden, GOP leader Donald Trump revealed on Thursday that he might announce his vice-presidential pick at the Republican National Convention in July.

In an interview with Charles Benson from Scripps News, Trump was questioned about the likelihood of announcing his running mate at the convention in Milwaukee.

Responding to this, the former president said: “That’s probably a pretty good chance, I would say.”

While he said he is not committing it “100 percent”, but added, “you’re getting pretty close. I’ll be doing it in Milwaukee, we’ll be — we’re gonna have a great time.”

This announcement follows Trump’s acceptance to face debate challenges issued by Biden. The first debate is scheduled to be hosted by CNN in June, and another by ABC News in September. However, both debates will occur without live audiences.

Trump refers to Milwaukee as a “Crucial State”

The Republican National Convention is scheduled to take place from July 15-18 in Milwaukee. “With tens of thousands traveling from around the country, it is our goal to showcase the vibrant, energetic, world-class city that is Milwaukee, Wisconsin,” the Republican National Committee said.
