Israel Confirms Settlers Attacked West Bank Army Base, ‘Red Line Crossed’

Israel confirmed that ultra-right-wing Jewish settlers had overrun a West Bank military base, vandalised cars, and torched a security facility. The attack has sparked outrage in the public and condemnation from senior Israeli politicians, including Defence Minister Israel Katz, who branded it as a “red line” breach. Katz stated he would call an emergency session for top security officials to consider what he termed as an acute rise in settler violence.

West Bank tensions continue high following last week’s rampage of settlers through a Palestinian village. There have been escalating violent clashes between settlers and Israeli security forces since then, leading to Sunday night’s riot outside the Binyamin Regional Brigade base.

Settlers Assault Soldiers, Vandalise Vehicles

The Israeli army reported dozens of civilians assembled at the gate of the Binyamin Brigade base. The demonstrators became violent. Soldiers were attacked by settlers, pepper-sprayed, and vehicles belonging to the military were wrecked.

The army indicated the same group was probably in a confrontation with troops on Friday. Soldiers had prevented them from entering a restricted military area near Kafr Malik, a Palestinian village within the central West Bank.

Subsequently, the army verified settlers reoccupied the area and torched a security facility. The facility held surveillance equipment utilized to deter terror attacks. The attack gravely hampered military operations.

Katz Demands Action Over Settler Violence

Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a firm warning in response. “This trend must be brought to an immediate halt,” he said. “We will do everything required and root out entirely this violence. No one will even think of laying a hand on IDF soldiers and members of the security forces.”

Israel Katz said that he would meet security chiefs urgently. He emphasized that soldier violence is unacceptable and must be brought to a halt immediately.

Israeli Ministers Deplore the Attacks

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also deplored the violence perpetrated by settlers. Posting on X, he stated, “Such incidents are unacceptable, and perpetrators should be punished heavily.”

He further stated, “The IDF and security agencies work day and night to safeguard the people of Israel. We must empower them, not obstruct them.”

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a right-wing politician who has supported settlers, also denounced the attacks. “A red line has been crossed,” he posted on X. He demanded a complete police inquiry into the incidents.

Rights Groups Warn of Growing Impunity

Human rights groups have cautioned for decades about increasing settler attacks in the West Bank. They claim Israeli authorities have been neglecting these attacks.

On Saturday, India opened the gates of the Baglihar Dam in Ramban District, and on Sunday, the gates of the Salal Dam in Reasi were opened.

The resulting increase in the water levels of the Chenab River has caused widespread alarm in Pakistan, causing fears of possible flooding and raising serious questions regarding the management and control of common water resources between the two countries.

Timing of the Dam Gate Openings

The timing of such moves is particularly crucial. The move follows a recent India-Pakistan ceasefire agreement. Yet neither of the two nations has discussed the IWT during their negotiations. India’s opening of the treaty came after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people.

In accordance with the treaty, the waters of the eastern rivers Sutlej, Beas, and Ravi belong to India, while Sutlej, Chenab, Jhelum, and Indus belong to Pakistan. This is not a new position, in 2011, former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also demanded compensation for the losses incurred by Jammu and Kashmir because of the provisions of the treaty.

Suspension of the IWT has deep political and economic consequences for Jammu and Kashmir. Regional leaders have complained about the adverse effects of the treaty on the water resources of the region. Interestingly, in March 2023, the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council passed a resolution asking the central government to reconsider the treaty. The increasing frustration of regional leaders is an indication of the economic and environmental problems caused by the terms of the treaty for the region.

The Baglihar and Salal dam gate opening is more than merely a water management problem. It is a symptom of a greater geopolitical battle over shared water resources between Pakistan and India. Trade analysts initially looked at a ‘zero-for-zero’ tariff regime as one means to reciprocate the US’s tariff increases. Nevertheless, official reports indicate that such an option is not available for the India-US trade agreement.

A senior government official pointed out that a zero-tariff regime is more applicable to high-income economies such as the US and the European Union. India and the US are at dissimilar levels of economic development and therefore such an arrangement is impractical.

This concept is unviable currently in contrast to the US-EU setup since structural variations exist in India’s economy that prevent this notion at this point.

The PIL raises alarm over sewage and contaminated water mixing with the sacred sea, posing threats to environmental health, devotees, and marine life.

Advocate Elephant Rajendran filed the petition, highlighting the pollution near the Rameswaram Ramanathaswamy Temple. The petition alleged that sewage from the Rameswaram municipality was contaminating the sea, particularly in the vicinity of Agni Theertham, a revered holy water body. It also noted that the roads leading to the site were in poor condition, exacerbating the plight of devotees.

The petitioner sought specific action from the Ramanathapuram District Collector to prevent sewage from polluting the sea and to ensure the roads and *padithurai* (bathing areas) were properly maintained.

The court adjourned the matter for further hearing on November 27.

In the wake of a new patrolling arrangement between India and China, satellite images reviewed by India Today confirm that disengagement activities have begun in the contested areas of Depsang and Demchok in Eastern Ladakh. The latest images, taken Friday, reveal a decrease in military structures, hinting at a possible resolution to the prolonged standoff ahead of winter. According to Secureworks, North Korean criminals have been increasingly using fake credentials to secure remote jobs at Western companies. These criminals then leverage their access as employees to steal valuable company information. In some instances, the stolen data is used to extort the company for money after the employee has been terminated.

In this particular case, the cyber criminal, believed to be a man, was hired as a contractor in the summer. With the access provided to him for remote work, he managed to infiltrate the company’s network and began stealing confidential information.

Hacking and Extortion Scheme

The North Korean criminal started downloading sensitive data from the company’s servers almost immediately after gaining access. Shockingly, he was able to continue collecting a salary for four months, despite not performing well in his job. The company eventually fired him due to poor performance, but the problems didn’t end there.

After being dismissed, the cyber criminal sent ransom emails to the company, threatening to either sell or publicly release the stolen information unless he was paid. It remains unclear whether the company agreed to pay the ransom.

Cybersecurity experts have been warning about the increasing number of North Korean individuals securing remote, well-paying jobs in Western countries by using falsified data, evading international sanctions. Delhi-NCR to Get Relief from High Onion Prices with Government Subsidy

Residents of Delhi-NCR will soon see relief from the steep rise in onion prices, as the government steps in to manage the escalating costs. This action comes in response to concerns about the strain high food prices are placing on household budgets. To address this issue, the Centre has announced that onions will be sold at a subsidized rate of Rs 35 per kilogram through mobile vans and NCCF retail stores in the Delhi-NCR region starting Thursday, September 5. Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi will officially launch this program from Krishi Bhawan.

Distribution Locations

The onions will be distributed through mobile vans at 38 locations, including Krishi Bhawan, NCUI complex, Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, Patel Chowk Metro Station, and various areas in Noida. This market intervention is intended to enhance local supply and help control the rising prices of onions, which are currently above Rs 60 per kilogram in Delhi.

NCCF’s Role and Buffer Stock

The National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF) has a reserve stock of onions sourced directly from farmers in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. This stock will be sold at the subsidized rate of Rs 35 per kilogram to protect consumers from exorbitant prices and to prevent excessive profits by intermediaries. By dealing directly with farmers and offering onions at a lower price, the NCCF aims to mitigate the impact of price volatility on consumers.

Onion Exports and Procurement Prices

As of July this fiscal year, India has exported 2.6 lakh tonnes of onions, according to Minister of State for Food and Consumer Affairs B.L. Verma. Last year, India exported a total of 16.07 lakh tonnes. The procurement price for the buffer stock this year has averaged Rs 2,833 per quintal, which is 64% higher than the Rs 1,724 per quintal paid last year.

Bengaluru Residents Conduct ‘Pothole Puja’ To Protest Bad Roads

Potholes have become a national concern. Many accidents and deaths are happening. The road condition is also deteriorating in many cities, with people’s complaints and grievances falling on deaf ears. Every day on social media, accidents of bikes and vehicles due to bad roads are seen, but it seems local authorities have little to do with it.

The potholes have turned out to be a gigantic problem in Bengaluru. Citizens of Jayanagar staged a unique protest against years of neglect by performing a puja at a troublesome pothole on the day of Varamahalakshmi Vratham.

A video shared by India Today captures a ritual being performed at a large, water-filled pothole by a man and a woman. The couple is offering flower petals, turmeric powder, and kumkum to the pothole, mimicking traditional worship practices. It is called ‘Gundi Pujan’ and was staged to get the civic authorities to take note of the worsening conditions of city roads.

Jyothi V, a local resident, expressed ire over the inaction of Bengaluru’s civic body. “We’ve tried everything from videos to social media posts, but nothing changed,” she told TOI. Jyothi and her neighbors have been dealing with this particular pothole for over one year now, stating that despite being a road that MP Tejasvi Surya and MLA CK Ramamurthy use frequently, it has not been attended to.

Jyothi said that BBMP elections might bring more attention to their issues. She also said that recently, a temple priest was injured after he fell into the pothole.

Now, the reactions to the protest were varied. One user commented, “And the Govt says it wants a 2nd International airport in Bengaluru….first mend the roads.create proper drainage system for the incoming monsoon and Provide clean potable water to drink…2nd, 3rd and 4th International airports can Wait !!!!!” Another suggested that the potholes should be named after party leaders to bring about awareness and even suggested names like Sonia Crater and Rahul Crater.

While many applauded the protest as an out-of-the-box idea, others were more cynical and said nothing, not even a plethora of pujas, would make any difference. This is not the first time that the residents of Bengaluru have resorted to puja to draw attention towards bad roads; a similar protest was held in 2021 to help prevent accidents due to dangerous roads.

Madhya Pradesh: 9 Killed In Temple Wall Collapse During Religious Event

In a heartbreaking incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district, nine children have lost their lives, two are undergoing treatment and several others have been injured following the Temple Wall Collapse. The tragedy occurred this morning at Hardaul Baba Temple in Shahpur during a religious ceremony.

The rescue operation, which involved both police and local residents, was a race against time as an earthmover was deployed to clear the debris and search for survivors. The injured children have been rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment at nearby hospitals.

This disaster comes on the heels of another wall collapse that claimed the lives of four children in the Rewa district just a day earlier. These children, aged between 10 and 15 years, were returning home from school when a wall fell on them. The property owners involved in that incident have since been taken into custody.

The region has been experiencing heavy rains, which have contributed to a series of such incidents. According to reports, the state has witnessed a total of 200 fatalities due to rain-related incidents this year alone. In addition, around 206 homes have been completely destroyed, and 2,403 others have sustained partial damage due to the adverse weather conditions.

Bharat-centric studies have been the central theme of the National Education Policy. Chemistry has existed as a fundamental branch in the Bharatiya knowledge tradition from the Vedic period to modern times. The Bharatiya scholar who has the credit for systematically documenting and publishing the manufacture of various chemicals found in the Atharvaveda in the Vedic period is Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray. Acharya Ray’s most important contribution is his book ‘The History of Hindu Chemistry’ which is the basic text of the Indian form of chemistry. Acharya P.C. Ray was born on 2nd August 1861. He was not only a chemist, apart from this, his achievement is also in the form of the foundation stone of a chemical industry. The process of reaching the modern form of chemistry is a phased process. In the first phase, there is Vedic era chemistry, under which he has described the chemicals mentioned in Rigveda to Atharvaveda in the first chapter of the introduction of his book titled ‘Alchemical Ideas in the Vedas’. In the next phase, he has described the metaphysics of Vaisheshik Philosophy and the chemistry of the Shaiv Tantric era. After that, he has described the chemistry used in the medical science of Charak and Sushruta and later , he has described the scientists of modern chemistry.

This idea of Acharya Ray does not deviate from the basic rules of chemistry anywhere. Chemistry has been starting from the Rigvedic era, while showing many evidences in this statement, he has mentioned the processes like medical science, metallurgical operations as well as the Ashwini Kumars mentioned in the Rigveda. By talking about personification of chemicals in Rigvedic mantras, he has propounded the chemical interpretation of Vedic mantras. After that, in order to explain the chemistry of Charak and Sushruta era to the general people, he has quoted the Metaphysical ideas of Vaisheshik Philosophy, the science of its basic Pharmacology , in his book. By presenting the chemical analysis of the basic 6 substances, 24 attributes of Vaisheshik philosophy and establishing their relation with 6 Tastes , he has very seriously analyzed the medical chemical analysis of Charak and Sushruta. Describing a subject like philosophy as the basic science of a subject like medicine is an achievement in itself. In the description of Ayurveda period, while enumerating the subtle and gross elements, the division of Tanmatra and Mahabhuta of Sankhya philosophy, the atomic theory of Vaisheshik philosophy, the description of Simple, Binary, Tertiary and Quaternary atoms, the description of the 24 attributes of Vaisheshik philosophy like Colour, Savour etc. and proving their utility in medical science is indicative of the mental maturity of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray. Using the nomenclature of pure chemistry while explaining the chemistry of Acharya Charak and Sushruta is indicative of his eternal intellect. Keeping the ancient nomenclature of kshariya elements (Alkali), Parad (Mercury), Yashad (Copper), Kajjali (Black Sulphide of Mercury) with the modern nomenclature is indicative of his interdisciplinary talent. Mentioning the experiments of Indian chemists like Vrinda and Chakrapani with their actual references is indicative of the extraordinary talent of Acharya Ray. By equating mica and mercury with Har (Shiva) and Parvati (Gauri) and describing their mixture as Amrit, he has propounded the theory of personification of chemicals.

The combination of the two, O goddess, is destructive of death and Poverty. (Introduction , A history of Hindu Chemistry ) Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray not only propounded the principles of ancient chemistry but also mentioned many ancient instruments in his book like Dolayantra, Swedani Yantra, Adhaspatan Yantra, Dheki Yantra, Valuka Yantra etc.
Through the above subjects, it can be estimated how extensive and deep was the study of Acharya Prafulla Chandra Ray. The study of Prafulla Chandra Ray is inevitable among the pioneer Acharyas of the Indian knowledge tradition.

The star-studded event saw the likes of actor Hugh Grant, football manager Arsene Wenger, and Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger among the attendees. The menu featured blue lobster, a rare French delicacy, crab, poultry marinated in champagne, and a gratin of French mushrooms. Guests were also treated to an assortment of vintage wines, champagnes, international cheeses, and a dessert selection of French macarons with lychee, rose sorbet, and raspberry compote.

The French auditing organization Cour des Comptes highlighted in its annual report that such state receptions had significantly strained the budget, leaving it nearly $9 million in deficit. The report detailed that the entire dinner cost $513,000, with $179,000 allocated to food and $46,000 to drinks.

During his speech at the banquet, King Charles praised President Macron’s “generosity of spirit” and recalled the touching tributes paid in France to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

This event was not the only lavish dinner hosted by the French government. In 2023, President Macron’s office spent $446,000 on a dinner for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Louvre Museum.

The extravagant spending on state banquets has raised concerns over the financial management of such events, as highlighted by the recent audit report.

Budget 2024: Internship Program With Rs 5000 Monthly Allowance Announced For 1 Crore Youth

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Tuesday, announced a new internship scheme that will offer on-the-job training to one crore youngsters in the next five years. According to sources, the scheme would provide internships across top 500 companies, and every intern would get a stipend of Rs. 5,000 per month. The cost of training would be borne by the companies; they would have to spend 10 percent of that expenditure from their CSR funds.

According to Section 135 of Companies Act 2013, every company having a net worth of rupees five hundred crores or more, or turnover of rupees one thousand crores or more or net profit of rupees five crore or more during any financial year shall spend at least two percent of the average net profit of the three immediately preceding financial years on CSR activities.

Sitharaman said in her speech that an ambitious target to generate employment opportunities for about 4.1 crore youth in the next five years with an outlay of Rs 2 lakh crore. Besides, she announced Rs 1.48 crore for skill development programs to train 20 lakh youth and shared plans for the upgradation of 1,000 industrial training institutes.

Sitharaman further proposed a one-time wage incentive for first-time employees across all sectors, to be delivered through DBT. The Finance Minister pointed out that this Budget basically focused on employment, skill development, MSMEs, and relief to the middle class.
