The ritual, though not legally binding, is meant to ward off bad luck and ensure future harmony.
</excerpt>

In an unusual occurrence that has attracted widespread attention, a Thai family held a traditional wedding ceremony for their four-year-old twins. The ceremony was conducted at Kalasin’s Prachaya Resort in Thailand, where twin brothers Thatsanaporn Sornchai and sister Thatsathorn went through marriage rites in the company of family members. A ceremony video has since been shared widely, raising interest and hilarity online.

The video features extensive preparations made for the visitors and Buddhist monks. At one point, the newly wed bride kisses her twin brother on his cheek. They subsequently participate in wedding ceremonies as blessings are offered by the monks. At some time, both kids are marked on their foreheads after the exchange.

The wedding, which took place on June 28 based on Singapore-based news outlet Must Share News, featured a dowry of four million baht and gold, with monks bestowing their blessings. The clip has gone viral in social media circles, evoking many comments. Some of the viewers enjoyed the traditional culture, but others saw the practice as odd. One viewer posted, “A great example of how cultural beliefs influence traditions.”

Cultural Belief Associated with Previous Lives

Although unexpected for many, such a ceremony is quite normal in Thailand. It is based on the belief that twins of the opposite sex are lovers in their previous life who have been reincarnated as twins. In order to avoid misfortune, illness, or injury in their current life, they have to wed each other with a ceremonial ceremony.

This tradition is believed to bring harmony and longevity to the twins, and has been handed down from generation to generation. Jongkon Sonchai, the mother of the twins, said that her children were born on June 14 and are now four years old.

Not Legally Binding

Significantly, this union is not legally binding and is merely ceremonial. According to Hua Hin Today, these weddings are usually conducted before the twins reach ten years of age, based on the notion that they have shared karma since birth.

“May the twins grow up with all the blessings this symbolic ceremony hopes to bring,” is one caption accompanying the viral photos.

The clip triggered online outrage. Critics noted South Korea’s laws overlook verbal sexual harassment without physical contact.
</excerpt>

A South Korean taxi driver is being heavily criticized after a Thai tourist posted a video recording of him making sexually inappropriate comments while on a tour to Seoul Station. The case was reported by the South China Morning Post (SCMP).

The tourist, whose identity she protected, uploaded the video on 19 June. The driver, in the video, uses a translating app in order to talk to her and asks a number of intrusive questions such as whether she had a boyfriend and why she remained unmarried.

The discussion became ominous when he told her that he could get her a job and said, “It is not hard. You just need to clean rooms.” When he heard that she was going to Busan, he volunteered to drive her there himself. More ominously, he added, “If you do not have money for the fare, you can pay with your body.”

The lady narrated experiencing fear, especially after the driver halted the car halfway in order to continue talking to her. Although he finally took her to Seoul Station, he gave her his phone number and inquired when she would return.

Online Outrage and Apology from Locals

Following the posting of her experience on social media, the tourist warned others to be careful while taking taxis in South Korea. She also disclosed that she had reported the driver using the same ride-hailing application. SCMP reports that since her video was posted, she has accumulated over 660,000 likes and over 400 comments.

Both South Koreans and Thais reacted with anger. One South Korean user posted, “I am sorry that such a terrible thing happened to you.” Another cautioned, “You should inform the police about this. This is sexual harassment. If this kind of person is not punished, they will do the same to others in the future.” A third said, “We should punish this driver severely for sexual harassment or at least expose his personal info.”

Fears of Legal Loopholes

SCMP pointed out that South Korean law does not treat verbal sexual harassment as a criminal offence unless accompanied by physical contact in public. This loophole in the law, it is claimed, permits untold amounts of inappropriate and predatory behavior to go largely unmonitored.

</excerpt>

Thailand’s Bhumjaithai Party said Tuesday it would bring a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and her government, adding to the pressure on the beleaguered premier. It comes after the party withdrew from last week’s government coalition and amidst heightened tensions with neighboring Cambodia.

The motion, scheduled for next week, will be the first big parliamentary test for Paetongtarn since she was publicly and politically criticized for a leaked telephone call with Cambodia’s ousted Prime Minister Hun Sen. During the call, she blamed a Thai senior military commander and paid respects to Hun Sen a move that has invited scathing criticism in a nation in which the military plays powerful influence.

Bhumjaithai, which has 69 seats in parliament, will require a minimum of 30 other lawmakers to approve the motion when parliament resumes on July 3. The party’s spokesperson, Boontida Somchai, stated that it is negotiating with opposition parties to support the move.

The aftermath of the call has also seen legal repercussions. A group of senators have asked the Constitutional Court and the national anti-graft agency to probe Paetongtarn’s actions, and potentially have her removed. Anti-government demonstrations are also set to start Saturday.

Even as the tempest raged around her, Paetongtarn maintained that her coalition government was solid and had endorsed a cabinet reshuffle and $3.5 billion in infrastructure spending. Pheu Thai Secretary-General Sorawong Thienthong said the government still has a parliamentary majority and is not concerned.

In the midst of political crisis, tensions with Cambodia are escalating. Thailand has shut all of the border gates across seven provinces over security concerns following a fatal clash in May. Trade and tourism have been interrupted, and Thailand has also promised to switch off electricity and internet services to suspected scam centres on the other side of the border charges Cambodia rejects.

A leaked call with Cambodia’s ex-leader sparks political drama.
</excerpt>

Thailand has banned tourists and travelers from entering Cambodia as a bitter border dispute between the two countries intensifies. The ban blocks all vehicles and people crossing from several Thai provinces and stops foreign tourists from flying into Cambodia’s Siem Reap.

Thailand Shuts Border After Clashes Kill Soldier

The Thai military announced on Monday that the new restrictions fit the current security risks. Tensions have soared since deadly clashes along the border in May killed a Cambodian soldier. In response, both countries began trading harsh penalties.

Cambodia blocked imports from Thailand, including fruits, vegetables, electricity, internet services, and Thai dramas and movies. Thai authorities said some exceptions to the ban may be allowed for students or medical patients if approved at border checkpoints.

The military added that the restrictions also aim to disrupt illegal scam networks operating in Cambodia.

PM’s Leaked Call Fuels Political Crisis

The Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra vowed to crack down on scams, promising actions like cutting internet services used by Cambodian security agencies. She also announced a ban on foreign tourists flying from Thailand to Siem Reap.

Thailand previously applied similar measures against Myanmar, where scam networks trapped thousands of foreigners.

The dispute has now triggered a political storm in Thailand. A leaked phone call between Paetongtarn and Cambodia’s former leader Hun Sen drew widespread criticism. In the call, she called him “uncle” and told him to ignore a Thai military commander who “just wanted to look cool.”

Paetongtarn defended her remarks as a negotiation strategy, but critics accused her of weakening the army’s authority. After the controversy, a key coalition partner of her Pheu Thai party left the alliance, deepening the crisis.

The roots of this dispute go back to more than a century to border lines drawn after France’s colonial rule over Cambodia.

Thai PM’s Secret 17-Minute Call With Ex-Cambodian Leader Triggers Uproar

<excerpt>Thai PM Paetongtarn’s leaked call with Cambodia’s Hun Sen triggered public outrage, a coalition breakup, and military coup concerns. The controversy over her tone and remarks led to protests, political instability, and renewed tensions over long-standing Thailand-Cambodia border disputes.
</excerpt>

A leaked 17-minute conversation between Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra and Cambodia’s former prime minister Hun Sen has thrown the Thai government into crisis, broken the ruling coalition, and re-awakened deep-seated threats of a further military coup in the politico-sensitive country.

The call, recorded on June 15, followed a deadly border skirmish on May 28 near the ‘Emerald Triangle’, a contested area where the borders of Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos meet. One Cambodian soldier was killed, escalating nationalistic tensions that have simmered for decades over the disputed land.

In the recording, PM Paetongtarn can be heard brokering the relaxation of cross-border limits with Hun Sen. But it wasn’t only the substance, but her demeanor as well that angered. Talking down to Hun Sen as ‘Uncle’ and terming a high-ranking Thai army officer an ‘opponent’, the comments angered right-wing quarters, especially the military upper crust and nationalist camps.

Coalition Breaks, Public Outcry Mounts

The reaction was swift. The Bhumjaithai Party, the country’s second-largest member of the ruling coalition, pulled its support on Thursday, claiming national security. “The PM compromised national interests and undermined the military,” the party leaders accused. The loss has brought the government to a narrow 255-seat majority in the 500-seat House of Representatives.

Opposition leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut of the People’s Party labeled the leaked audio “the final straw,” demanding new elections and Parliament dissolution. Protesters marched around Government House the same day, waving Thai flags and calling for Paetongtarn’s resignation. Some senators meanwhile have promised to pursue impeachment, and grievances against the Prime Minister have begun pouring into law enforcement agencies.

Apology, Fallout, and Diplomatic Clash

Apologising to the furor, Paetongtarn clarified that her statement was part of a de-escalation strategy. “It was a negotiation strategy,” she told reporters. In an interview with reporters on Thursday, she regretted the leak and accused Hun Sen of exploiting the chat for local political points. “I will no longer conduct private conversation with Hun Sen,” she added.

The audio, said to have been circulated by Hun Sen to more than 80 Cambodian officials prior to its appearance on his Facebook page, elicited an immediate response from Thailand’s Foreign Affairs Ministry. Thai officials protested formally with the Cambodian ambassador, describing Phnom Penh as committing a “serious breach of diplomatic etiquette and trust.”

Historical Ties and Renewed Coup Fears

Paetongtarn, daughter of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, has long come under scrutiny from nationalist elements for her seeming soft line towards Cambodia. Her father described Hun Sen as a “godbrother” at one time and was an adviser to the Cambodian government. Both Thaksin and his sister Yingluck Shinawatra were ousted in 2006 and 2014 military coups, respectively.

Today, with her government embattled and confronting growing public unrest, many fear the past repeating itself. The Thai military, who remain a dominant political institution with strong connections to the monarchy, made a rare public comment on Thursday, urging citizens to “have confidence in the army’s dedication to defending national sovereignty through legal mechanisms.”

Aside from political repercussions, the appeal has also revived past border conflicts, most importantly over the UNESCO-protected Preah Vihear Temple. Although the International Court of Justice in 1962 found that the temple was Cambodian, a 4.6 sq km buffer zone surrounding it is still in dispute.

In Cambodia, patriotic fervor has increased in the aftermath of the deadly confrontation, with Thai imports being banned, Thai TV dramas being cancelled, and internet throttling across borders. Thai officials, on the other hand, have brushed aside accusations of provocation, including allegations of drone monitoring.

Sensitive Moment for Paetongtarn

As her Pheu Thai Party navigates this storm with a fragile majority and mounting credibility issues, analysts warn that Paetongtarn must act swiftly to restore public trust and assert national sovereignty—or risk the same fate as her ousted predecessors.

His public reappearance and ceremonial act have intensified speculation about a possible royal return and succession, given the king’s uncertain line of heirs.
</excerpt>

Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse, one of the estranged brothers of Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn (Rama X), has fueled renewed speculation over the royal succession after posting photos of his ordination as a Buddhist monk in Bangkok. The ceremony, on Vesak Day, a major Buddhist holiday — was remarkably public, with the 43-year-old posting several snaps on Instagram. His high-profile engagement suggests potential royal sanction and has raised interest in his future as part of the monarchy.

Who is Vacharaesorn Vivacharawongse?

Commonly referred to as Than Oun, Vacharaesorn is the second son of Rama X and his ex-wife Sujarinee Vivacharawongse, an actress formerly known as Yuvadhida Polpraserth. Born in 1981, he came to the U.S. after being banished in 1996 with his mother and siblings. Even after living most of his life outside of Thailand as a regular citizen, Vacharaesorn has kept contact with the Thai community and surprised many by visiting Thailand in 2023.

Since his retirement, he made a number of public appearances, and now, following his ordination, rumors have started that he may be quietly returning to royal life. One report in Vanitatis even hinted that “Vacharaesorn’s return to Bangkok could signal that he is attempting to rewin his father’s favor.”

Why is his ordination important?

In Thai culture, royal males tend to enter monkhood first before assuming public or royal responsibilities. Vacharaesorn’s move to do this, particularly on such a high-profile day, has raised speculation about whether he’s being considered for a more formal position. His growing public exposure and pious references to his father on social media can hint at a possible royal rehabilitation — even as a potential candidate for the throne.

The Complex Legacy of King Rama X

King Maha Vajiralongkorn, also known as Rama X, is 72 now and became king in 2016 after his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s, death. Rama X has been criticized publicly for his personal life and for governing primarily from overseas, particularly Germany. Rama X has married four times and at present holds both a queen and a royal consort — a revival of palace traditions from ancient times.

His reign has been characterized by uncertainty about succession, based on health, complicated family relationships, and ancient male-preference laws.

Royal Children and Marriages

Rama X has four wives:

Princess Soamsawali (his cousin): One daughter, Princess Bajrakitiyabha

Sujarinee Vivacharawongse: Four sons (including Vacharaesorn) and one daughter, Princess Sirivannavari. The sons were cut off in 1996

Sirasmi Suwadee: One son, Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti

Queen Suthida: No children

His royal partner, Sineenat Wongvajirapakdi, was at one time stripped of her title, later reinstated.

Why is the royal succession in Thailand in doubt?

While Prince Dipangkorn is the sole officially acknowledged male successor, rumors indicate he has developmental issues that could impinge on his capacity to rule. In turn, Vacharaesorn and his brothers are still barred under existing legislation because they were disowned.

Princess Bajrakitiyabha, Rama X’s first-marriage daughter, was once seen as a possible heir — but a coma since 2022 has taken her out of public life. Another daughter, Princess Sirivannavari, is also a royal but not in the official line of succession.

Is Vacharaesorn in line to be groomed for the throne?

Though disinherited some three decades ago, Vacharaesorn’s recent movements, particularly his ordination indicate that he might be in the process of getting back into favor with the monarch. As Vanitatis points out, “In Thailand, it is the tradition for male royals to retreat to a monastery before assuming public roles.” His return at times of importance to the culture and his open praise for his father lend weight to the speculation that he may be positioning himself anew in the royal story, perhaps even as a future heir.

He owns 17,000 properties, 300 luxury cars, 38 private jets, and 52 gold boats. His lavish lifestyle and royal legacy continue to draw global attention.
</excerpt>

Thailand’s King Maha Vajiralongkorn, commonly referred to as King Rama X, is ranked the richest monarch in the world, according to Business Standard. His monumental wealth has brought him global acclaim, even making his net value higher than that of some top global billionaires.

The King’s personal wealth is an estimated Rs. 3.7 lakh crore (USD 43 billion). It is due to a mix of inheritance and huge investments. The bulk of the wealth arrived after he inherited the throne and properties upon the death of his father, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in 2016.

King Vajiralongkorn officially took the throne in 2019, following the death of King Bhumibol on October 13, 2016, at the age of 88. In addition to royal titles, he inherited a humongous empire of properties and holdings that made him one of the richest people in the world.

His property holdings are nothing less than phenomenal. It’s reported that he has around 17,000 properties scattered all over Bangkok. His personal collection consists of more than 300 high-end vehicles from leading manufacturers and an unbelievable 38 private aircraft, indicative of his taste for opulence. His lavishness is not limited to land, his report is said to own 52 gold-adorned boats.

The lineage of King Vajiralongkorn is filled with history and honor. He is the sole son of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who held one of the longest reigns in recent history, and Queen Sirikit. His childhood involved schooling in different countries. According to Reuters, “he finished high school in Thailand, Britain, and Australia before attending Canberra’s elite Royal Military College,” where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in military studies.

To his diverse personality, the King also adds the expertise of a trained pilot. He is purported to hold licenses for flying fighter aircraft and helicopters, which reflects his robust military background. Throughout the 1970s, he was an active participant in military campaigns against communist rebels in Thailand.

King Vajiralongkorn’s own life has also attracted quite a bit of interest from the public over the years. He has married four times, each relationship garnering tremendous media attention—similar to his lavish expenses and life decisions.

Despite all the controversy and negative publicity, King Vajiralongkorn is still among the most influential and richest kings in the world.

</excerpt>

On 2 May 2025, Thailand recorded its first death from anthrax after decades of no reported cases, sending public health warnings. The 53-year-old Mukdahan province man near the border with Laos died after he was infected with the unusual disease. Two infections were confirmed by authorities, and 638 people were exposed following the consumption of undercooked or raw beef.

Containment efforts have begun by the government through antibiotics and quarantine. This incident indicates Thailand’s susceptibility to zoonotic diseases, particularly along the borders.

Rare and Lethal Disease

Anthrax is a bacterial illness usually transmitted from animals to humans. Humans tend to catch it from handling infected animals or consuming contaminated meat. While uncommon, anthrax is lethal if left untreated. Thailand has not seen its last death since 1994, with isolated instances since then, including two cases in 2017. This new report indicates an alarming return in Southeast Asia, which already has several public health issues.

In Mukdahan, there was one confirmed death and one infection. Three other suspected cases are being investigated. Of the 638 people exposed, 36 had contact with livestock, and others consumed raw or undercooked beef. The authorities are treating with antibiotics to stop further transmission and are monitoring the situation closely.

Quick Containment and Quarantine

The Thai government moved fast to stem the outbreak. They declared a 5-km quarantine area around the site of the infection. The Livestock Department is coordinating the vaccination of 1,222 cattle, although none of the animals exhibit symptoms. These precautionary measures are meant to prevent further spread of anthrax.

The Agriculture and Health Ministry assured the people that measures are in place to safeguard both human and animal health. There has been no unexplained death among animals. The health officials appealed to rural populations to remain cautious, particularly in light of constant livestock contact within these communities.

Regional Concerns and Future Risks

Thailand’s anthrax outbreak is part of a greater regional problem. Anthrax cases in neighboring countries, such as Vietnam and Laos, have been rising. In Laos alone, there were 129 cases in 2024. The rising rates of infection in Southeast Asia make future outbreaks all the more probable.

Free cross-border movement of people and animals increases the danger of anthrax spreading to other areas.

Strengthening Public Health Infrastructure

This epidemic reinforces the necessity for a strong public health system that can rapidly respond to zoonotic epidemics. Thailand’s prompt response is noteworthy, but it also reflects the necessity for investment in surveillance and prevention, especially in rural and border regions. In addition to enhanced quarantine practices, Thailand also needs to ensure public education regarding the hazards of eating raw meat and working with livestock safely.

The country’s first death from anthrax in more than three decades serves as a heartbreaking reminder of the constant threat presented by zoonotic diseases. The rapid action of the government probably limited the number of deaths, but sustained vigilance cannot be done without. Regional collaboration and increased public health infrastructure are key to stopping future outbreaks. Thailand needs to intensify efforts to shield its people from avoidable infectious illnesses.

</excerpt>

Denmark-based pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk has formally launched its super-successful obesity-treating medicine, Wegovy, in Thailand, the company’s local executive confirmed on Monday. The injectable medication is the company’s first launch in Southeast Asia, as it keeps pushing globally.

First launched in 2021, Wegovy gained significant momentum and propelled Novo Nordisk to the position of Europe’s highest valued listed company, with a record valuation of $615 billion. Already on sale in key markets such as the United States, Japan, and China, Wegovy’s latest expansion into Thailand further solidifies its international presence.

Early Approval and Competitive Advantage

“We already got the Thai FDA approval in 2023,” Novo Nordisk’s Thai subsidiary vice president and general manager Enrico Canal Bruland indicated. Bruland noted that Wegovy was introduced in Thailand before competitor Eli Lilly’s Zepbound obesity drug, showing Novo’s strong market strategy.

Though Bruland refused to disclose Wegovy’s prices in Thailand or the company’s plans to expand into other Southeast Asian nations, he did affirm that Wegovy prescriptions are already available at private hospitals and will soon be extended to public hospitals across the country.

Investment in Clinical Trials

“During the past four years, we have spent about 500 million Thai baht on clinical trials in Thailand,” Bruland said, highlighting Novo’s long-term commitment to the Thai market.

Novo Nordisk’s diabetes medication Ozempic, which has the same active ingredient as Wegovy, is currently on the Thai market. But Wegovy addresses weight loss directly, which makes it a valuable addition to the company’s product line.

Growing Obesity Problem in Thailand

Thailand faces growing concerns regarding obesity. According to the country’s health ministry, about 42% of the adult population is considered obese, and obesity rates among schoolchildren have jumped from 5.8% to 15% over the past two decades.

“If we then look at the economic effect that this has, roughly 1 percent of GDP goes towards health costs associated with obesity and lost productivity,” Bruland added. “We feel with this innovation, we can make a huge difference and hopefully curb this thing.”

With a population of about 66 million, Thailand is a key market for Novo Nordisk as it strives to meet global health issues associated with obesity.

</excerpt>

Six Thai police officers were killed in a tragic accident when a small plane crashed into the sea while conducting a parachute training exercise on Friday, April 25. The incident happened around 8 a.m. local time off the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, some distance south of Bangkok.

Five of the officers on board the plane were declared dead at the scene, while the sixth officer died later from injuries in a hospital, said police spokesperson Archayon Kraithong. Authorities are investigating the crash and reviewing the black box data recorder on the plane to find out what caused it.

The crash happened around 100 meters off the beach in Cha-am district, a holiday resort region some 130 kilometers southwest of the Thai capital. A social media video caught the aircraft spinning out of control before going into the sea, with locals scrambling to the scene to help.

Thai Police Chief Kitrat Phanphet promised a complete investigation of the accident, and the Royal Thai Police sent its deepest condolences to the grieving families.”

The accident puts into the limelight the risks continually being assumed by law enforcers who take part in high-risk training operations.

The form includes personal, travel, and health details, aiming to enhance immigration procedures and visitor experience.
</excerpt>

Famous for its beautiful beaches, cosmopolitan cities, tranquil villages, and grand temples, Thailand remains among the most popular tourist destinations in Asia. With summer tourism gathering momentum, the Thai government is introducing a new entry regulation to streamline the arrival process and render it more effective.

Mandatory TDAC for All Foreign Arrivals

Beginning May 1, all foreign nationals traveling to Thailand by land, air, or sea—will be expected to fill out and submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) prior to travel. The TDAC is to be completed before boarding an airplane or entering Thai borders. Officials say the action is aimed at ‘improving the overall experience for tourists and residents alike’.

What the TDAC Includes

Visitors can submit their electronic arrival card a maximum of 72 hours in advance. The TDAC form is divided into three major sections:

Personal Details – This encompasses simple facts such as full name, date of birth, nationality, and passport number.

Travel and Accommodation – The traveler is required to input facts such as arrival date, mode of travel, staying address in Thailand, and visit reason.

Health Declaration – This section inquires about your present state of health and countries travelled to in the last 14 days.

Once the form is submitted and their details confirmed, travellers will be issued their digital card by email. The card has to be presented at immigration when arriving in Thailand.

Step-by-Step: How to Complete the TDAC

Go to the official TDAC website.

Click on the ‘Arrival Card’ option.

Fill in all personal, travel, and health information required.

Carefully review the details before submitting.

Upon completion, the system will automatically produce your electronic arrival card.

Print and retain the card for immigration clearance upon arrival.

Important Note for Long-Stay Visitors

According to Thai immigration regulations, foreign nationals who reside in the country for more than 90 days have to report their present address to the closest immigration office shortly after they reach the 90-day mark. This is done again at 90-day intervals for the duration of their residency.

</excerpt>

A British man was arrested in Phuket, Thailand, after he violently attacked a local shopkeeper and a teenage boy. The incident, which happened early Friday morning (April 4) in the Chalong area, was caught on CCTV and quickly spread online, drawing strong public criticism.

Man Damages Vehicle and Starts Fight

According to Daily Mail, the man, George Paterson, aged 40, is from Glasgow, Scotland. He was first seen on CCTV damaging a parked motorcycle outside a local store. Soon after, he tried to tear off the seat of the bike. As a result, the store owner, Warin Dokbua, aged 51, confronted him.

However, instead of stopping, Paterson began punching Warin multiple times. Then, he picked up two glass bottles and threw them at the shopkeeper. Warin later said, “He appeared to be intoxicated or under the influence of some substance. He wouldn’t listen when I tried to stop him, and he physically attacked me, even throwing a bottle of oil at me from the front of the store.”

Violence Escalates

Meanwhile, a woman arrived at the scene on a scooter with her three children, including a baby. CCTV footage reportedly showed Paterson striking the teenage boy and throwing him to the ground. Furthermore, he pushed the woman and her two daughters off the scooter, adding to the chaos.

Police Intervene and Arrest the Suspect

Soon after the attacks, police found Paterson nearby and arrested him. However, officers said he was extremely aggressive and could not be questioned right away. Currently, he remains in police custody while the investigation continues.

Expat Offers Positive View of Life in Thailand

Interestingly, this violent event contrasts sharply with the peaceful lives of other British citizens in Thailand. For example, Claudia, a UK-born content creator who moved to Koh Samui in 2023, often shares her happy experiences online.

In a TikTok video with over 68,000 views, she said, “The biggest reason is the lifestyle… in the UK you get maybe two months of good weather a year if you are lucky… but here I’m surrounded by successful open-minded people… who are actually excited about life.”

Moreover, she praised the lower cost of living, the warm climate, and the strong sense of community in Thailand, all of which made her feel confident and productive.

The death toll has surpassed 1,600, with fears it could rise. Neighboring Thailand also reported casualties and destruction.
</excerpt>

Myanmar was hit with several aftershocks on Saturday, a day following a destructive 7.7-magnitude earthquake that left more than 1,000 people dead. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) detected a 5.1-magnitude earthquake close to the capital city of Naypyidaw at 2:50 PM IST, while India’s National Centre for Seismology (NCS) recorded it at 4.7 magnitude. Both centers confirmed the quake had a depth of 10 kilometers.

Myanmar has been struck by at least three small earthquakes on March 29, with magnitudes of 3.6 to 4.7, according to the NCS. But it is not yet known if the new quakes have resulted in further damage.

The earthquakes and aftershocks have made recovery efforts even more difficult. Large sections of Naypyidaw are still without electricity, telephone, and internet connections as officials try to repair communication lines and roads.

The death toll stands at a minimum of 1,644, with Mandalay Myanmar’s second largest city and residence of 1.5 million people being the most devastated region. The government led by the military warned that the toll may increase higher as rescue operations are underway. Authorities have informed that specific casualty numbers are being tabulated. The USGS has approximated that fatalities can be up to 10,000.

Concurrently, the quake’s effects didn’t stop on Myanmar’s territories. In Thailand, the shakes caused a half-built 33-story skyscraper in Bangkok to collapse, burying at least nine people dead. Rescue attempts on the premises are on the second day as 47 others, most of them Myanmar nationals, remain under the debris trapped.

Thai authorities described earthquake damage to houses, hospitals, and monasteries, especially in provinces in the north such as Chiang Mai. Deaths, however, have thus far been confirmed only in the capital city, Bangkok.

</excerpt>

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on Friday, resulting in at least 144 deaths and injuring over 732 people. The death toll is expected to rise as search and rescue operations continue. The quake’s epicenter was near Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city, and was followed by a strong 6.4-magnitude aftershock 11 minutes later.

Myanmar’s military junta leader, General Min Aung Hlaing, acknowledged the scale of destruction and urged international aid. “I have requested international support for relief efforts and have accepted offers from the AHA Center and India,” he stated in a televised speech. Hospitals in Naypyidaw, Mandalay, and Sagaing are overwhelmed with victims, further complicating the crisis.

Impact in Myanmar and Surrounding Regions

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has estimated that the final death toll could surpass 1,000 as many areas remain inaccessible. Myanmar lies in an active seismic zone, but the impact of this quake was particularly severe as it struck densely populated areas.

The tremors were also felt in China’s Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, causing structural damage in Ruili and intense shaking in Mangshi. Reports indicate that residents struggled to remain standing as aftershocks continued. A 4.2-magnitude tremor was recorded in Myanmar at 11:56 p.m. local time on Friday, increasing concerns about further seismic activity.

International Aid and Relief Efforts

In response to the disaster, the United Nations has pledged $5 million in emergency relief funds for affected communities in Myanmar. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed that aid teams are mobilizing in Southeast Asia to provide immediate assistance.

US President Donald Trump announced that his administration would extend support to Myanmar, stating, “We’re going to be helping.” Meanwhile, India is set to send over 15 tonnes of relief materials, including tents, sleeping bags, food supplies, water purifiers, hygiene kits, and essential medicines. The aid package will be transported via an Indian Air Force C-130J aircraft from Air Force Station Hindon.

Thai High-Rise Collapse Kills 10

The earthquake’s impact extended to neighboring Thailand, where a 33-story building under construction in Bangkok’s Chatuchak district collapsed, killing at least 10 people. The collapse sent a massive dust cloud into the air, triggering panic among onlookers and halting traffic in the vicinity. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, pulling survivors from the wreckage and transporting them to hospitals.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has directed authorities to remain on high alert for potential aftershocks and ensure public safety. While she did not confirm additional casualties, concerns remain over further structural instability in affected areas.

Global Reactions and Ongoing Concerns

The devastation in Myanmar has drawn global attention. Amnesty International highlighted the crisis, pointing out that Myanmar was already grappling with displaced populations and limited humanitarian aid. The Vatican issued a statement confirming that Pope Francis, recovering from a recent hospitalization, is praying for the earthquake victims in both Myanmar and Thailand.

Meanwhile, rescue teams continue their search for survivors, including Buddhist monks trapped in the rubble of Phaya Taung Monastery in Mandalay. As relief efforts ramp up, experts warn of the potential for further aftershocks, emphasizing the urgent need for continued vigilance and international cooperation to aid affected communities.

Myanmar’s junta chief urged global assistance as rescue efforts continued, with fears the death toll may rise further.
</excerpt>

A strong 7.7-magnitude quake hit Myanmar’s central region, killing at least 144 and injuring 732, the nation’s military ruler, Min Aung Hlaing, said. The leader of the junta threatened that the number of dead would likely increase and called for a rare international aid plea, urging “any country, any organization” to help with relief.

The earthquake struck at 1:20 PM local time with a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), and its epicenter was a mere 17.2 kilometers from Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city. The quake resulted in massive destruction, felling buildings and compelling hospitals within the capital city, Naypyidaw, to treat outdoor patients due to building damage. Casualties are reported in Mandalay, together with the towns of Toungoo and Aungban.

The effect spilled over Myanmar’s borders, leveling neighboring Thailand. In the capital city of Bangkok, a half-built skyscraper collapsed, killing three and leaving at least 81 trapped under the debris. Rescue crews are racing to find survivors.

Although the extent of destruction in Myanmar is unclear, initial video evidence on social media indicates buildings fell down and vast amounts of damage occurred in central areas. The tragedy has heightened a sensitive situation in the country, which has a military-led government, as government officials battle to organize relief efforts.

</excerpt>

A powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck central Myanmar on March 28, 2025, causing significant structural damage and widespread panic across the region. The quake’s impact was felt as far as Bangkok, Thailand, where buildings swayed, and residents evacuated in fear.

Epicenter and Magnitude

The earthquake’s epicenter was located near Sagaing, approximately 250 kilometers from Myanmar’s capital, Naypyidaw. The main quake, registering a magnitude of 7.7, was followed closely by a 6.4 magnitude aftershock.

Impact in Myanmar of the Earthquake

In Myanmar, the earthquake caused the collapse of the iconic Ava Bridge in Mandalay, a historic structure spanning the Irrawaddy River. Numerous buildings in Mandalay also suffered significant damage, with reports of structures crumbling under the seismic stress.

Regional Effects of the Earthquake

The tremors extended beyond Myanmar’s borders, affecting several neighboring countries:

Thailand: In Bangkok, high-rise buildings swayed, prompting evacuations as alarms sounded. Residents reported water sloshing out of rooftop pools, and many fled to the streets in panic. The government convened an urgent meeting to address the situation.

Vietnam: Cities such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City experienced noticeable tremors, causing light fixtures to sway and unsettling residents.

India and China: Reports indicate that the earthquake’s effects reached parts of eastern India and southern China, though no significant damage has been reported in these areas.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

As of now, there are no confirmed reports of casualties. Authorities in Myanmar and affected regions are conducting assessments to determine the full extent of the damage. Given the magnitude of the earthquake and the affected areas’ infrastructure, concerns remain about potential injuries and fatalities.

Response and Relief Efforts

Emergency response teams have been mobilized in Myanmar to assist those affected and to assess structural damages. Neighboring countries are on high alert for possible aftershocks and are coordinating with Myanmar to provide aid if necessary. International organizations are also monitoring the situation closely, ready to offer assistance in relief and recovery operations.

The 7.7 magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar has had far-reaching effects across Southeast Asia, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to seismic events. As assessments continue, the priority remains on ensuring the safety of residents, providing aid to those affected, and evaluating the structural integrity of buildings and infrastructure in the impacted areas.

Rights groups fear persecution, while China defends the move, calling it lawful and standard procedure.
</excerpt>

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Thursday sharply rebuked Thailand for deporting at least 40 Uyghurs to China, where Washington claims the ethnic minority is under genocide.

Contrary to the warnings of UN human rights officials, who called for Thailand to stop the repatriation because of the risk of torture and abuse, the Southeast Asian country went ahead with the deportation. The Uyghurs were held in Thailand for a decade.

We strongly denounce Thailand’s forced repatriation of a minimum of 40 Uyghurs to China, where they are denied rights under due process and have already suffered persecution, forced labor, and torture,” Rubio stated in a release. Rubio warned Thailand’s actions were likely to constitute a breach of Thailand’s obligation under the United Nations Convention Against Torture and urged Thai officials to protect the rights of the Uyghurs.

The 10 million Uyghur people of China’s Xinjiang province have long been under what Western countries and human rights groups have characterized as systematic oppression. The US officially designated Beijing’s treatment of the Uyghurs as genocide in 2021, a characterization preserved by the Biden administration. China, though, denies these allegations and says its “vocational training centers” are to fight extremism.

Media on Thursday photographed trucks with veiled windows exiting a Bangkok detention facility where 48 Uyghurs were detained. Flight logs revealed an unscheduled China Southern Airlines flight departed Thailand for Xinjiang that morning.

Although Thailand’s defense minister claimed that China had guaranteed just treatment of the deported Uyghurs, suspicions persist. China’s embassy justified the action, labeling it as legal and rebuffing foreign interference in its domestic affairs.

Israel has a long history of employing Thai workers, particularly in agriculture. Despite concerns over working conditions, Israel remains a top destination for Thai migrants seeking better wages.
</excerpt>

Five Thai nationals have been freed by Hamas, having been abducted in the assault of October 7, 2023. They returned to Thailand on Sunday and are a welcome relief for their families and the nation at large. Among the 31 Thai nationals being held by Hamas, 23 have been freed, two died, and one remains missing. This brings the total number of deaths to 46 Thai nationals, with those who died in captivity included, according to the ministry.

Why So Many Thai Nationals in Israel?

This has been a history quite long for the state of Israel, especially after the Palestinian revolt in 1987-93, termed the First ‘Intifada’. The initial tendency was to rely wholly on Palestinian workers until Israel’s relations with the Palestinians became worse, prompting it to desperately recruit many migrant workers. Among these workers, the majority happened to come from Thailand, making Thai nationals one of the largest groups of foreign agricultural laborers in the country today.

Israel and Thailand have, ten years ago, agreed bilaterally on the issue of migration by the Thai workforce. The bulk of these are for agriculture workers, but many criticize the conditions they live in as well as how they work. A report published by Human Rights Watch last 2015 points out that a lot of these workers have inadequate, even makeshift accommodations. Meanwhile, many received wages lower than the legal minimum wage. In addition, their working hours lasted long, involved hazardous working environment, and frequently denied them rights to change jobs.

Prior to the Hamas attack, Israel had about 30,000 Thai workers, mainly working on agricultural farms. After the attack, the government evacuated more than 7,000 workers back to Thailand through evacuation flights. Still, more workers flocked in, and the Thai Ambassador to Israel, Pannabha Chandraramya, insists that the number of Thai workers in Israel has actually surpassed 38,000.

How Israel Attracted Workers After the Hamas Attack?

The shock and distress caused by the Hamas attack prompted a large number of foreign workers to leave Israel, resulting in a labor shortage, particularly in the agricultural sector. In response, Israel’s government announced a series of incentives to attract foreign laborers back. These included extending work visas and offering bonuses of about $500 a month.

Thailand’s labor ministry also approved the dispatch of nearly 4,000 workers to Israel in 2024. Thus, Israel is one of the first destinations among many Thai workers in search of higher wages and alternatives abroad, particularly from poorer regions of northeastern Thailand. Before the incentives were introduced, workers in Israel earned much more than they could at home, making it a very attractive destination for migrant labor.

The UN urged Thailand to protect them, warning of potential torture if repatriated. Meanwhile, Xi emphasized strengthening bilateral ties in infrastructure and digital economy.
</excerpt>

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra in Beijing, amidst growing concerns over the possible deportation of 48 Uyghur detainees held in Thailand. Human rights organizations fear that China may pressure Thailand to accelerate their return during the Thai leader’s three-day official visit, which commemorates 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

Among the detained Uyghurs are around 350 who fled Xinjiang, China, in 2014 because of persecution. Some were resettled in Turkey, but at least 109 were forcibly returned to China, whose whereabouts rights groups cannot trace. The remaining 48 have been in Thai immigration detention for more than a decade, reportedly without access to legal assistance, family, or advocates. Thailand has not ratified the 1951 UN Refugee Convention, which has left them vulnerable to prolonged detention as “illegal migrants.”

The Chinese government has been accused of committing “crimes against humanity” against Uyghurs and Hui Muslims, with reports of mass arbitrary detentions and abuses. Beijing has, on numerous occasions described these as the “lie of the century.” According to the UN, over one million minority Muslims, mostly Uyghurs have been detained in facilities since the country stepped up counter-terrorism operations in 2017. China, initially denied the existence of these facilities before describing them as “re-education centers”.

Last month, UN human rights experts urged Thailand not to repatriate the Uyghurs, warning that they could face torture, mistreatment, and severe harm if sent back. “We are informed that 23 of the 48 individuals suffer from serious health conditions, including diabetes, kidney dysfunction, paralysis of the lower body, skin diseases, gastrointestinal illnesses, and heart and lung conditions,” the special rapporteurs stated. “It is essential they be provided with the necessary and appropriate medical care.” They also highlighted the detainees need to be able to access asylum procedures and humanitarian aid. The UN statement came as warnings from Thai lawmakers and human rights groups of an imminent transfer of Uyghurs to China, but the Thai government denied this.

During the meeting, Xi Jinping called for strengthening bilateral cooperation in various sectors, including infrastructure, digital economy, and electric vehicles. He mentioned the high-speed railway project linking Bangkok to Kunming in China’s southwest as one of the key initiatives. “In the face of unprecedented changes not seen for a 100 years, China and Thailand should deepen mutual trust over strategic interests and firmly support each other,” he said, according to state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV).

Luxury hotels and travel agencies are already experiencing increased demand. The show’s cast includes Blackpink’s Lisa, further boosting regional interest.
</excerpt>

It is HBO’s Emmy-winning series The White Lotus, which by artfully mixing sharp social satire with breathtaking locales has become a cultural phenomenon. Since its release in 2021, it has been a trendsetter for traveling. Wherever it was filmed, that location became the talk of the town. For instance, the first season, where the Four Seasons in Hawaii was used as a location, boosted the luxury travels to the islands. In the second season, which featured Sicily, that Italian city was a destination not to be missed.

And now, with The White Lotus set to enter its third season, Thailand is readying itself for a probable influx of people. The show will air on February 16, and instead of being shot at one single resort, the new season was filmed across various locations in Thailand, thereby widening the ripples in their economies.

I believe there was more than a 20 per cent increase in visitors in Hawaii and Sicily, based on Seasons 1 and 2,” Bangkok Post quoted Chompu Marusachot, director of the Thailand Tourism Authority’s (TAT) New York office, as saying. “I can only hope that the momentum will be the same from Thailand.

The Four Seasons Koh Samui and other hotels already featured in the show have seen an uptick in interest, with rates going above $1,200 per night, even during monsoon season. It’s a change that is felt even by luxury travel agencies. “I just had a new client couple come to me and say, ‘We heard White Lotus is set in Thailand next season.”. Can you get us at the same resort before it gets too popular?'” Rabia Malik, a travel adviser at Fora, asked.

“I planned their entire trip around the Four Seasons Koh Samui, and they’re so excited to be heading there in a few weeks,

Fora reports that Thailand bookings for January 2025 are up 312% compared with the same period in 2024, consistent with previous seasons.Thailand welcomed some 35.5 million tourists in 2024, but only 28.2 million came to the country in 2023 and still lower than almost 40 million tourists in 2019 before the pandemic, based on the Ministry of Tourism and Sports.

Most of the target audience come from the United States, which has viewers highly interested in the series. Despite having no direct flights coming from the United States into Thailand, demand for tickets does exist, Bangkok Post reported recently. According to Anantara, one of Thailand’s luxury hotel brands, The White Lotus is “a golden opportunity” to enter the American market.

Many of the target viewers hail from the United States, a country whose viewers are highly interested in the show.
Several of its properties, including the Mai Khao Phuket resort and three Koh Samui locations, served as filming spots for Season 3. Anantara executives predict a 20 per cent increase in bookings, aligning with tourism authority projections.

To the hype, a high-profile cast has been lined up for the upcoming season, which includes Leslie Bibb, Carrie Coon, Jason Isaacs, Natasha Rothwell, and Blackpink’s Lisa, or Lalisa Manobal. Lisa’s involvement is said to have a very strong impact on regional tourism. “Her connection to Thailand has heightened interest in the series,” Marusachot said. “The buzz around White Lotus in Thailand is very real because of Lisa.

This marks a historic step for LGBTQ rights in Southeast Asia.
</excerpt>

Thailand has officially legalized same-sex marriage, with hundreds of LGBTQ couples expected to formalize their unions on Thursday, marking a historic moment for the country and Southeast Asia. This landmark legislation, which takes effect today, grants LGBTQ couples the same legal, financial, and medical rights as heterosexual couples. Thailand becomes the first Southeast Asian nation and the third Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, joining Taiwan and Nepal.

Celebration in Bangkok and Across the Country

To commemorate the law’s enactment, around 300 couples are expected to register their marriages at a special, daylong celebration at a shopping mall’s exhibition hall in central Bangkok. Throughout the country, many others will register their unions in district offices and various other settings. The Marriage Equality Act has been warmly received by many, providing the LGBTQ community with long-awaited legal recognition.

The bill passed through Thailand’s parliament without major opposition and amended the Civil and Commercial Code, replacing gendered terms like “men and women” and “husband and wife” with “individuals” and “marriage partners.” This change will ensure equal rights for same-sex couples, including joint assets, inheritance, survivor benefits, tax obligations, and more.

A Step Toward Inclusivity in a Conservative Society

Despite Thailand’s reputation for being relatively accepting of LGBTQ people, advocates for marriage equality have faced decades of challenges in a largely conservative society. Although attitudes have improved in recent years, discrimination remains, with many members of the LGBTQ community still experiencing prejudice in their daily lives. However, the passing of the Marriage Equality Act represents a significant achievement in a society where, for the first time, same-sex couples can now legally claim the same rights as their heterosexual counterparts.

Personal Stories of Joy and Relief

Couples interviewed about the new law expressed their gratitude and excitement, with some sharing their long-term relationship journeys. Kullayahnut Akkharasretthabudh, a 38-year-old real estate owner, shared how the law acknowledges everyone’s basic human rights. “This law is proof that regardless of our gender, we all share the same basic human rights,” she said, referring to herself and her partner Juthatip Suttiwong, 24, a chef. “It also paves the way for other countries in Asia to recognize human values and let everyone live freely.”

Similarly, Patherine Khunnares, 37, a web designer, and her partner, Vivian Chullamon, 36, a researcher, explained that while their social circle supports their relationship, legal recognition of their marriage would eliminate future anxieties. “We aren’t asking for anything special,” said Khunnares. “We just want a simple, happy family life.”

In preparation for the law’s enforcement, Bangkok’s city government has conducted workshops to ensure district office staff handle marriage registrations with sensitivity toward gender diversity. These sessions aim to teach officials how to communicate effectively with LGBTQ individuals and to foster an inclusive atmosphere. The Interior Ministry has also implemented similar initiatives.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Sanon Wangsrangboon described this step as the “missing piece of the jigsaw,” emphasizing the importance of societal understanding and the law’s readiness to integrate LGBTQ couples into Thai society. “Society is ready. The law is getting ready. But the last piece of the jigsaw is the understanding from officials,” he said.

This legal shift in Thailand stands as a beacon of hope for the LGBTQ community and advocates for equality across the region. It demonstrates the country’s evolving attitudes toward marriage and human rights, paving the way for broader acceptance and legal protection for same-sex couples.

</excerpt>

Thailand’s cabinet has approved a draft law to legalize casinos and gambling, a move aimed at boosting tourism, job creation, and investment, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra announced on Monday.

The proposed law, which will be sent to parliament for review, would allow gambling in large-scale entertainment complexes.

Currently, most forms of gambling are banned in Thailand, although underground betting and lotteries are widespread, along with limited legal gambling such as horse races and the state lottery.

Neighboring countries like Cambodia, Singapore, and the Philippines have reaped significant benefits from legal casino operations, and the Thai government argues that the lack of regulated casinos has cost the country valuable revenue and tourism opportunities.

“Legalisation will protect the public and also generate more state revenue,” Paetongtarn told reporters, as quoted by Reuters.

She emphasized that regulated gambling could help Thailand capitalize on its tourism potential, a vital sector for the country’s economy, which is Southeast Asia’s second-largest.

Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amornvivat highlighted the economic benefits, predicting that legalizing gambling could increase foreign tourist numbers by 5–10% and boost tourism revenue by 120–220 billion baht (£3–£6.3 billion). He also said the plan could create 9,000–15,000 new jobs. The push for legalization follows years of debate and resistance from conservative groups in Thailand, a majority-Buddhist country.

However, the ruling party has strong support from influential figures, including former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the billionaire father of Paetongtarn, who has long advocated for regulated gambling. If implemented, this initiative would align Thailand with its regional peers and help strengthen its position as a leading tourist destination.

</excerpt>

Koh Phangan, the island famous for its Full Moon Party, has been a hotspot for global tourists for many years. Though it attracts thousands of people each month with its energetic atmosphere, the appeal of this island is now marred by the severe environmental damage caused by rampant tourism, and concerns over its waters and beaches.

Travel content creator Grant Barnes recently shared a distressing video that showcases how fast the island has degenerated. He termed the waters as “dirty,” saying tourists should not venture out to swim. So what’s the cause behind it? According to reports coming from the local sector, drunken party animals openly do defecation and urination inside the water.

He explained that, “The water might appear to be alluring but is far from being clean.” His viral video shed light on an almost unheard-of problem related to the island’s system for managing sewage. “Its lack of capacity cannot cater for the large amount of people coming in on these nights. Thus, much sewage falls directly into the ocean causing critical harm to the waters, marine ecosystems, such as the coral reefs included”.

Why single out Koh Phangan?”

</excerpt>

Thailand, a country where tradition meets modernity, provides a rich variety of experiences. From its lively streets to tranquil rivers, every moment here conveys a tale. News X’s Bryan Thomas invites you on a unique exploration, revealing the treasures of this territory.

We start our journey in the iconic Chinatown of Bangkok, a vibrant oasis that shines with bright lights and elaborate ornaments. Being one of the oldest and largest Chinatowns worldwide, it offers a sensory experience, immersed in a rich cultural history.

Transitioning to Wat Pho, which features the famous Reclining Buddha. This 46-meter-long work of art, embellished with gold leaf, stands as a symbol of Thailand’s craftsmanship and spiritual dedication. “Guests are amazed by its magnificence,” says Bryan. Beyond its architectural magnificence exists a valued custom—placing coins into 108 bronze bowls, representing blessings and prosperity.

In a special feature with Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Sorawong Thienthong, Bryan examines Thailand’s role as a worldwide travel center. “We seek to combine cultural conservation with contemporary attractiveness,” states the Minister.

Governor of the Tourism Authority, Thapanee Kiatphaiboon, emphasizes flexible approaches: “From eco-friendly tourism to distinctive local experiences, Thailand remains a captivating destination for travelers.”

Marking achievements, Bryan encounters Chetan Gupta, the 2 millionth visitor to Thailand this year. “It seems unreal to be involved in this accomplishment,” Gupta expresses.

No trip is finished without an exhilarating Tuk Tuk adventure, providing a vibrant view of Bangkok’s lit streets, or a serene boat trip on the Chao Phraya River, highlighting lively markets and ancient sites.

As Bryan wraps up, he contemplates: “Thailand is more than a place to visit; it’s a feeling, an experience that remains with you for a lifetime.”

Passenger Frustration: A Growing Online Outcry

The behaviour was met with frustration from fellow passengers. Kumar, who recorded the video, expressed his disappointment, stating, “Indians enjoy getting themselves insulted everywhere. They have literally turned the flight into a train. They are standing and traveling.” Other social media users chimed in with their own opinions. One user wrote, “Again proved. Money doesn’t get you class!”

Cultural Shock: A Shared Experience

Others shared similar experiences of uncomfortable in-flight encounters. One person recounted their trip to Thailand, where the flight attendants had to intervene as passengers were standing, and a fellow traveler was eating paan masala mid-flight. Another user humorously remarked, “Looks like some people think the plane is a flying local train waiting for the next stop mid-air!”

Humour Amidst Frustration: Comments Flood in

Despite the frustration, many took to humor to lighten the mood. One commented, “On trains, they fight for seats,” while another added, “Sit tight, folks, the pilot’s not opening the door anytime soon!” These light-hearted comments suggest that the issue of in-flight behavior may be more widespread than originally thought.

The Debate Continues

The video has raised questions about public behaviour, particularly during air travel, where safety protocols should take priority. While some argue it’s a matter of lack of civic sense, others believe it’s a broader issue that needs to be addressed through awareness and cultural sensitivity.

This viral incident has sparked widespread discussions on social media platforms, and it seems that the conversation around in-flight manners is just getting started.

This explosion happened just before midnight on Friday during an outdoor performance at the annual festival, according to local officials from the Association of Umphang Rescue Groups.

Thai police have arrested two suspects in relation to the incident, although no charges have been filed yet as the investigation continues. Authorities reported that at least 48 people were injured in the blast, many of whom suffered injuries of varying severity.

Defense Ministry spokesperson Thanathip Sawangsang said that a fight between rival groups of men preceded the explosion and that evidence suggested the explosive device was a homemade bomb. Despite the violence, authorities have emphasized there is no wider security threat in the area.

The explosion occurred in Tak, a province that has intense military presence because it sits close to the border with Myanmar.
This giant snake, probably Reticulated Python, was bobbing around in the flood water in Southern Thailand,’ wrote one X user who shared the video.

Many said they fear snakes. Said one, “Snakes are not my thing.” Added another, “Nor mine. at all!

“Some are speculating on its condition: that it “looks dead and bloated. That’s why it won’t move from the spot.” Some just said, “That is a reticulated python upside down, meaning dead or in extreme stress,”.

Another commenter remarked: “My surprised look when I noticed he already swallowed something – hopefully not a human being.” What is a reticulated python?

The snake featured in the video is thought to be a reticulated python, which is one of the world’s largest snake species. The Atlanta Zoo claims that such pythons can reach over 20 feet in length and are easily identified by their “complex, diamond-shaped patterns” along their backs. In addition, they have rows of sharp, recurved teeth and are therefore efficient predators.

Effects of Flooding in Thailand Torrential rains that have pounded Thailand in recent times have led to catastrophic flooding. Downpours that have left at least 25 dead and displaced more than 30,000 have been confirmed by the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. Flooding has ravaged both humans and wildlife as this python’s disturbing trip through floodwaters testifies. This viral video is portrayed through the effects of extreme weather events, mostly unexpected and eerie, to viewers.

</excerpt>

ASEAN member states are set to hold a ministerial meeting in Thailand later this month to address the ongoing crisis in Myanmar, Indonesia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Roy Soemirat announced on Thursday.

Invited by Laos, the current ASEAN chair, the meeting will focus on implementing the bloc’s five-point consensus plan, designed to resolve the political and humanitarian turmoil following Myanmar’s 2021 military coup.

The plan, introduced in April 2021, has seen minimal progress as Myanmar’s junta continues its violent crackdown on dissent and ignores calls for dialogue from its regional neighbors.

At October’s ASEAN summit, leaders reiterated their demand for an “immediate cessation” of violence, stressing the need for a “Myanmar-owned and -led” national dialogue and improved conditions for humanitarian aid delivery.

The ministerial talks are scheduled to begin on December 20, with Indonesia’s foreign minister among the expected attendees.
