</excerpt>

Meanwhile, the Pakistan-based terrorist Farhatullah Ghori released a video on Telegram asking his followers to plan major train derailments at Delhi, Mumbai, and other cities. Among other things, Ghori said, “Target the supply chain to cripple their infrastructure.” He elaborated on different ways of “creating disruptions” other than using guns. He told his supporters, “Target petrol pipelines, their logistics chain, and the collaborators. disrupt the railway lines, their transport system. These will create chaos.”

Ghori, who figures in the most-wanted list of the intelligence establishment, said, “The govt is targeting our properties through ED and NIA, but remain steadfast, we will usurp power sooner or later.” This part of his threat has sent alarm bells ringing among the agencies which are probing recent incidents like placing of cement blocks to derail a Vande Bharat train on August 23 and 24.

Ghori also called upon an “ishtishadi jung” or a “fidayeen war” against the Hindu leaders and police in his three-minute video and advised trying out different tactics to find weaknesses. According to Intelligence officers, this video has been in circulation for the last 1-2 weeks.

Ghori, alleged mastermind of at least half a dozen attacks such as the 2002 Akshardham temple attack, was flagged by the ISI in March this year in a video that incited war against India. Indian agencies had been on the lookout for Ghori as he was linked to a spate of terror attacks, including a self-styled Islamic State-inspired module. Recently, its special cell arrested Rizwan Ali, said to be a close aide of Ghori, who operated as an IS recruiter.

Ghori, from Hyderabad, was declared a terrorist by the home ministry in 2020 but continues to be active from Lahore. Intelligence agencies say that Ghori’s recent high profile could be part of the ISI game plan aimed at creating communal disharmony, perhaps a ploy to deflect attention and also to disclaim Pakistan’s role in his games.

Earlier in the day it was reported that an encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces on Monday in Dudu village of the Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir is going to witness the elections after a gap of 10 years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014.

The polling in the UT will be held in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, as per the Election Commission of India. The counting of the votes will take place on October 4. There are a total of 90 assembly constituencies, of which 74 are general, nine are ST, and seven are SC.

Earlier on August 14, one terrorist was killed by security forces during an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s (J-K) Doda district.

“One terrorist has been neutralised in the ongoing operation. One AK 47 has been recovered in addition to the M4 rifle. Intermittent exchange of firing continues as the operations are ongoing,” White Knight Corps said.

</excerpt>

Kashmir: The ongoing anti-terror operation in Anantnag district, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in a rising death toll as a civilian succumbed to injuries early Sunday morning, bringing the total number of fatalities to three, officials confirmed to TDG.

Abdul Rashid Dar, who sustained injuries from terrorist gunfire on Saturday, passed away in a hospital in Srinagar. His death follows the earlier confirmation of two Army personnel who were martyred during the intense firefight in the Ahlan Gagarmandu forest area.

The encounter began on the evening of August 10, when a joint cordon and search operation by the Army and local police was launched in the remote Ahlan Gagarmandu forest area. This operation was triggered by intelligence reports suggesting the presence of terrorists in the high-altitude region, situated at approximately 10,000 feet.

According to officials, the operation turned into a fierce battle when terrorists opened fire on the security forces. Six Army personnel and two civilians were injured during the confrontation. The two slain Army personnel have been identified as Havildar Dipak Kumar Yadav and Lance Naik Praveen Sharma. The injured soldiers were quickly transported to a nearby medical facility, but two succumbed to their injuries shortly after arrival.

In response to the escalating situation, additional reinforcements have been deployed to the area. The security forces are intensifying their efforts to locate and neutralize the terrorists, who remain at large despite the challenging terrain.

This incident is reminiscent of a similar operation that took place in the Kokernag region last September, which resulted in the deaths of four security personnel, including Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Ashish, along with Deputy SP Humayun Bhat. That operation also led to the neutralization of two terrorists, including a senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander.

Following a deadly encounter in Doda district on July 15, where four soldiers, including a captain, were martyred, security forces have heightened their operations in the Kokernag woods. It is suspected that the terrorists involved in the Anantnag encounter may have crossed over from Kishtwar district after escaping the confrontation in Doda.

On August 5, security agencies confirmed through both human and electronic intelligence that the terrorists responsible for the Doda region violence had infiltrated the Kapran-Garol area in south Kashmir. The ongoing operation, which began on the night of August 9-10, involved tracking these terrorists to the mountainous terrain east of Kapran.

A Srinagar-based defence spokesperson detailed that suspicious activity was detected at around 2 p.m. on August 10. The terrorists responded with indiscriminate and reckless firing, leading to injuries among two Army personnel and two nearby civilians. The terror background of the injured civilians is currently under investigation.

The spokesperson also noted the challenging conditions faced by security forces due to the region’s altitude, dense undergrowth, and rugged terrain. Despite these obstacles, operations continue as forces methodically pursue the terrorists.

Massive search operations are ongoing across several districts of Jammu and Kashmir as security forces work to track down and neutralize terrorists responsible for recent deadly attacks in the region. The operations, concentrated primarily in Doda and Reasi districts, come in response to a series of attacks that have claimed the lives of civilians and security personnel.

In recent days, terrorists targeted multiple locations across Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts, resulting in casualties including nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, with several others injured. Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed during an encounter in Kathua, where a substantial cache of arms and ammunition was seized by security forces.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police have issued appeals for information from the public regarding the whereabouts of these terrorists, emphasizing the confidentiality of informants. Rewards totaling ₹20 lakh have been announced for information leading to the arrest of key suspects involved in the attacks.

Security operations have been particularly intense in areas like Kota top in Gandoh and Chattagalla in Doda, where recent skirmishes between security forces and terrorists have left seven personnel injured. Despite these efforts, authorities have reported no recent contact with the fleeing terrorists.

In response to intelligence warnings of potential further attacks, security measures have been heightened across Rajouri, Poonch, Kathua, Samba, and Jammu districts. ‘Naka’ checkpoints have been established, and residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to local authorities.

</excerpt>

US-based terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who is the founder of the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has delivered fresh threats ahead of Jan 26 (Republic Day). Pro Khalistani graffiti on social media are also getting viral that contains threats ahead of the Republic Day parade on Jan 26. It claims that the group aims to “avenge” the death of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Informing that Nijjar was killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey, Canada on June 18 last year by unanimous men.

However, the SFJ group was declared an ‘Unlawful Association’ by the Government of India in 2019. One of the ‘designated individual terrorists’ declared by GOI, Pannun has been actively exhorting Punjab-based gangsters and youth over social media to fight for the cause of the independent state of Khalistan, challenging the sovereignty, integrity, and security of the country.

Last year in September, Pannun asked the Hindu – Canadians to leave Canada amid tensions that erupted after the diplomatic row between India and Canada over the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

However, the Ministry of External Affairs has raised concerns over the issue with the United States and the Canadian authorities.

Pannun is under the NIA’s radar since 2019 when the anti -terror agency registered its first case against him. Pannun is known for playing a major role in promoting and commissioning terror activities in Punjab and elsewhere in the country.

The NIA through its investigation has come across that SFJ was misusing cyberspace to radicalise gullible youth and to instigate them to undertake terrorist crimes and activities.

Brar, known for his alleged connection to the murder and conspiracy against Sidhu Moosewala, is identified by his real name, Satinderjit Brar. Currently residing in Canada, he hails from Faridkot, Punjab.

Wanted for severe offences including murder, attempted murder, and drug trafficking, Brar is associated with Lawrence Bishnoi, a fellow Punjabi gangster incarcerated in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. Canadian authorities’ BOLO program has listed Brar among their top 25 most wanted fugitives. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) report has tied Brar and the Bishnoi gang to pro-Khalistan organisations.

A Faridpur court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against Brar for the murder of District Youth Congress President Gurlal Singh Pehalwan in May 2022. Shortly after, on May 29, 2022, Brar allegedly claimed responsibility for the shooting of Sidhu Moose Wala, an Indian singer and politician, via a Facebook post.

Brar is an integral member of the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, notorious for various high-profile crimes, including the murder of senior police officials. Currently evading authorities in India and Canada, the Indian government has issued a Red Corner Notice against him. This designation permits arrest and extradition to any Interpol member country.

</excerpt>

According to a report by Al Jazeera, the United States has called on Turkey to approve Sweden’s NATO membership. Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that it is the right time for Sweden to join the alliance and that the country has met the necessary criteria since the beginning. Blinken made these remarks during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson in Lulea, Sweden.

Sweden and Finland initiated the process of seeking NATO membership following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. NATO operates under the principle of collective defense, meaning an attack on one member is considered an attack on all. All NATO members must agree to allow new countries into the alliance. While Finland recently joined NATO, Sweden’s application is still pending. Hungary and Turkey have yet to ratify Sweden’s accession, with Turkey being seen as the main obstacle.Turkey has accused Sweden of providing shelter to members of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which it considers a terrorist group. This accusation has raised concerns and has become a point of contention in the process of approving Sweden’s NATO membership.

Turkey, Sweden, and Finland signed a so-called trilateral memorandum in June of last year to address Ankara’s concerns about banned armed organisations.
Turkey, on the other hand, claims that Sweden has not met all of its commitments under the agreement. An Islamophobic Quran-burning protest in Stockholm in January, which the government condemned, further soured relations between the two countries, as per Al Jazeera.

The Pakistan National Assembly appears to be divided on the operation against terrorists. The deadly terrorist attack at the Peshawar mosque on Tuesday killed at least 100 people.

The National Assembly experienced some fiery speeches as some members demanded the complete elimination of terrorism. But most of the lawmakers were not in favour of launching attack on terrorists’ hideouts to eradicate terrorist activities. They raised questions on the effect of prior operations.

In fact, Pakistan launched an attack on the militant group named Zarb-e-Azb in Pakistan and along the Afghanistan border near Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in 2014.

Religious Affairs Minister Moulvi Abdul Shakoor of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) is not in favour of launching a military operation against terrorists. He said it may disturb the tribal areas.

However, the lawmaker lashes out at the previous government of Pakistan, led by Imran Khan, for its appeasement policy toward the militant groups.

An independent member of assembly from Waziristan, Mohsin Dawar, said that the protest by the police personnel near the Peshawar Press Club is heart-breaking.

If policemen staged demonstrations, then it is difficult for anyone to assess the severity of the situation. He said that the police don’t have the trust on the state.

The banned group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has created havoc on Pakistani soil in recent time after the failure of the peace deal between the TTP and the Pakistani government.

However, the TTP came into force in 2007 by numerous armed groups who were against Pakistan for its cooperation policy with the US. Meanwhile, the TTP came forward in the support of Afghan Taliban’s fight against the US and the NATO.

The most wanted senior Islamic State (ISIS) leader Bilal-al-Sudani was killed in a US counter-terrorism operation in northern Somalia, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed in a statement on Thursday.

No civilians were harmed during the operation that killed a number of other ISIS members in the assault operation that the US conducted on orders from President Joe Biden.

“On January 25, on orders from the President, the U.S. military conducted an assault operation in northern Somalia that resulted in the death of a number of ISIS members, including Bilal-al-Sudani, an ISIS leader in Somalia and a key facilitator for ISIS’s global network. Al-Sudani was responsible for fostering the growing presence of ISIS in Africa and for funding the group’s operations worldwide, including in Afghanistan,” the official release of the US Department of Defence quoted Austin as saying.

“This action leaves the United States and its partners safer and more secure, and it reflects our steadfast commitment to protecting Americans from the threat of terrorism at home and abroad. No civilians were harmed as a result of this operation. We are grateful to our extraordinary service members as well as our intelligence community and other interagency partners for their support to this successful counterterrorism operation,” Austin added.

Prior to last year’s end, US forces conducted an airstrike in Syria that resulted in the deaths of two senior ISIS figures, CNN reported.

Notably, in Somalia till date, the military operations have only paid heed to al-Shabaab fighters which are the dominant militant group in the region. According to the first official, al-Sudani received sanctions from the US Treasury in 2012 for facilitating foreign fighters’ travel to an al-Shabaab training camp and providing funding.

The division bench consisting of Justices Sidharth Mridul and Talwant Singh issued notice to NIA and directed to file a reply within four weeks. The matter has been listed for further hearing on March 24. The counsel for the appellants submitted that they had pleaded guilty before the trial court.

They were given life imprisonment to the appellants for recruiting and training youths across the country for terror activities in India. Special Judge Shailender Malik sentenced appellants Sajjad Ahmed Khan, Bilal Ahmed Mir, Muzaffar Ahmed Bhat and Mehraj-ud-din Chopan to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty in the case.

Moreover, Nalin Kumar Kateel also asked the leaders to not repeat this incident in the future and that all issues should be brought to the attention of the party.

Firing a fresh salvo at BJP the Congress party said earlier there were white-collar rowdies in the BJP party but now there are real rowdies.

However, in another tweet Congress tweeted, “Earlier there were white collar rowdies in BJP, now there are real rowdies. Dawood Ibrahim, an underworld criminal, may join the BJP and become a saint.”
