</excerpt>

A German tourist who traveled to Mexico was arrested and later accosted by bystanders after climbing the Temple of Kukulcan, a Mayan historical site, illegally. The whole scene, which was recorded on video, has since become viral on social media.

As reported by Daily Mail, the man, whose name has not been revealed, is seen climbing up the temple as people in the crowd scream at him to desist. One of the onlookers is heard yelling in Spanish, “You cannot climb the temple,” while other people in the crowd insult him, referring to him as an “idiot” and “stupid.” The video also captures a security guard following him up, as the crowd boos in disdain.

According to a report by People, Mexican National Guard members soon appeared, arrested the tourist, and took him away with his hands in the back. During the taking away, some members of the public approached him, punching and screaming at him in anger.

The viral clip generated mixed responses in the internet community. A comment from a user was sarcastic, saying, “Exciting stuff for security personnel. Climbing the pyramid legally.” A user also added humorously, “WARNING: If you lack a Federal permission to visit Pyramids or Ruins, upon doing so, you acknowledge you will be given to the Mayan Gods—this is so as to uphold ancestral practices.”

The Temple of Kukulcan, which is part of the Chichen Itza archaeological complex, is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. According to the People report, the ancient Mayans constructed the building around 1500 BC to monitor the changing seasons. The official website of the site highlights that it is illegal to climb the pyramid since previous visitors have done considerable harm to the monument.

According to media sources, while there were no casualties from the shooting, the Army has launched an extensive search operation in the Jammu region to locate the attackers.

The incident occurred around 7:25 am, with terrorists allegedly firing 15-20 rounds at military vehicles, including an ambulance, in the Battal area close to the Shivassan temple in Jogwan.

Additionally, the terrorists are reported to have defaced deity idols at the Hassan temple in the vicinity, as per a News18 report.

Following the attack, the Army cordoned off the area and initiated a search operation, though they have “yet to establish contact with the terrorists,” according to the report.

</excerpt>

Archaeologists have made an astonishing discovery off the coast of modern-day Pozzuoli, Italy, uncovering the submerged ruins of a 2,000-year-old temple built by the ancient Nabataean civilisation. The temple, previously featured in the 1989 Hollywood blockbuster Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, has remained hidden underwater for centuries, preserving ancient inscriptions and altars.

The discovery has brought to light marble slabs inscribed in Latin and ancient altars believed to have been undisturbed for millennia. According to researchers, the temple was part of the bustling port city of Puteoli (now Pozzuoli), a critical hub for global trade in ancient times.

Nabataean Influence in Roman Puteoli

Researchers confirmed that the Nabataeans, an ancient nomadic civilisation from Jordan, had constructed the temple as a place of worship, trade, and refuge for foreign merchants. It is believed that the temple served as a cultural and commercial exchange centre under the protection of the god Dusares, a significant deity in Nabataean religion.

“The existence of a Nabataean sanctuary within the port area confirms that there was a community from that region participating in the commercial activities of Puteoli,” the researchers stated. They further described the temple as a central hub for business and trade activities, blending religious and commercial functions in the ancient Roman world.

Design and Structure of the Underwater Temple

Built on a rectangular plan, the temple consisted of two rooms, giving access to the vicus Lartidianus, an area used by foreign traders. The temple’s Roman-style walls and marble slabs were etched with the Latin inscription “Dusari sacrum,” meaning “consecrated to Dushara,” a prominent Nabataean god.

Submerged 150 feet off the coast of Pozzuoli, the structure remained hidden for centuries due to layers of volcanic activity, until archaeologists recently rediscovered it while searching for ancient treasures in the Gulf of Pozzuoli.

The Temple’s Downfall and Rediscovery

The temple’s significance waned during the reign of Roman Emperor Trajan (98-117 AD), when the creation of the Roman province of Arabia Petraea led to the decline of Nabataean trade. With Rome’s increased control over trade routes, the temple’s use diminished, eventually leading to its abandonment.

Covered by layers of volcanic material, the ancient structure was preserved for centuries until its recent rediscovery. Archaeologists are now delving deeper into its history, bringing to light the temple’s role in the vibrant commercial and religious life of ancient Puteoli.

</excerpt>

A 30-year-old computer engineering graduate, Salman Salim Thakur, was arrested on Wednesday for vandalizing a religious idol at a temple in Secunderabad, Telangana.

According to the Hyderabad Police, Salman, a Mumbai native, became self-radicalized after being influenced by videos of the controversial Muslim preacher Zakir Naik and other hardline Islamists on social media. A police official stated that he “developed a radical mindset and hatred” toward the practices of other religions, particularly idolatry.

Salman was reportedly involved in similar vandalism incidents in Mumbai in 2022, where he attacked locals at a Ganesh pandal while wearing footwear. He had traveled to Hyderabad for a month-long personality development course, the police noted.

Tensions escalated in Secunderabad on Monday morning when Salman entered the sanctum sanctorum of the Muthyalamma temple and desecrated the main idol, a Durga Matha statue. During the incident, he was assaulted by some locals present at the temple.

The police apprehended him and subsequently transferred him to a hospital, where he is currently being treated for internal injuries. His condition remains serious. Authorities have filed an FIR against him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).

This incident has sparked widespread protests from local residents, Hindu groups, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Senior BJP leader and Union Minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar urged the Congress government in Telangana to take stringent action against the culprits. He stated, “Hindu society would take a decision” based on the government’s response.

After visiting the temple on Monday night, the Minister of State for Home Affairs expressed his anger over the incident and the accompanying CCTV footage. Kumar pointed out that several Hindu temples have been attacked since the Congress government took power 10 months ago, asserting, “Would the situation be the same if the attack took place on any other religion? How would the pseudo-secularists behave? Why did no minister of the Congress government visit this temple?”

The individual, who has completed a master’s degree in law from a prestigious Chinese university, was apprehended after police released video footage revealing his illicit activities.

The crime came to light when footage from the Famen Temple in Baoji city showed the suspect placing his own QR code over the temple’s donation box while bowing before a Buddha statue. This video, released by Shaanxi police, demonstrated the man’s method of stealing donations and involving in scam.
TDB has not taken this decision for the first time to stop arms training within the temple premises. A similar kind of decision was taken in 2016 when the board banned all kinds of arms training inside the temple complex given by the RSS.

However, the Travancore Devaswom Board once again issued an order on 30 March 2021 and mentioned that the temple complex can’t be used for other purposes except temple rituals and festivals.

The latest circular by the TDB warned that strict action would be taken against those who failed to follow the ban order.

Narottam Mishra, Home Minister of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday took note of girls who shot an Instagram reel in the Mahakal temple, Ujjain.

Some reels got viral on Instagram in which girls combined Bollywood songs and shot reels on the temple premises and the sanctum sanctorum of Mahakal temple in Ujjain.

“I have instructed the Collector and the SP to investigate the matter. Messing with religious beliefs in any way would not be tolerated,” said Mishra.

It can be seen in the video that a girl shot it while she was performing Jalabhishek in the sanctum sanctorum of the Mahakal temple. While wandering around the temple grounds, the other female recorded the video. A strict actio has been demanded against the girls by the priest of Mahakal temple, Mahesh Guru. After the video went viral , he said “This type of video destroyed the sanctity of the temple. The employees of Mahakal temple were also not fulfilling their responsibility,” citing the videos as derogatory and contrary to the Sanatan tradition.

Mahakal temple in Ujjain is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas. Clicking pictures is not allowed inside the temple premises as it is against the Sanatani traditon.

Narottam Mishra, the home minister for the state of Madhya Pradesh, demanded action against a woman on Tuesday for filming an Instagram reel (multi-clip films lasting up to 30 seconds) inside a temple in the Chhatarpur district.

“Instructions have been given to the superintendent of police to register an FIR against the objectionable filming in the Mata Bumberbaini temple complex in Chhatarpur”, Mishra wrote on Twitter.

On October 1, a social media influencer named Neha Mishra took down the video from the photo-sharing app and social networking site after Bajrang Dal members objected to it. The song “Munni Badnam Hui,” a well-known Bollywood classic, was used as the soundtrack for the video.

“The way Neha dressed and shot the video was objectionable. I had earlier objected to such incidents and said FIRs will be registered in such cases. Despite the warning, she did this,” the home minister said.

Neha, who has more than four lakh Instagram followers, posted a second video in which she apologised for her actions.
